Rare But Not So Rare Sonic Moments. Character Analysis.

Crying

A weird topic I’m more then happy to discuss.

Mandate: “Sonic’s not allowed to get overly emotional.”

I’m starting to think the mandates do break in a few instances. This one specifically is something I’m quite interested in because this is probably one of the rarest emotions Sonic displays. Getting sad/emotional.

Hopefully this essay will be a positive outlook on the mandate.

(Despite being a discussion about negative emotions.)

Examples Of Sonic Getting Emotional

I might not include everything, but the examples I have knowledge of will be stated. If you have anymore examples, I’d love to see them.

SATAM: Sonic cried when he and the Freedomfighters had to leave his Uncle Chuck in Robotnik’s lab.

Archie: The times Sonic cried/teared up was when the weight of a situation got to him, when something tragic occurred and all hope was lost, or when he was filled with joy after those instances ended. Those moments like others, didn’t go too far. (For the most part)

Pretty sure he never out right sobbed.

Underground: I think Sonic only cried when he was a little kid.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

X: In episode 52 Sonic allowed his tears to shed with his head turned away from us. He and Chris ran one last time before Sonic left through a portal to go home forever. It obviously crushed him even if we didn’t see his face.

Boom: Sonic cried/teared up in two episodes of the show. First when Tails was reminiscing about the Tornado and noticed Sonic wiping his eyes. Sonic replied, “What?” Then he, Knuckles, and Tails all cried when they thought the baby they took care of was gone. Also, in Archie when Stick’s rock friend broke or “Died,” everyone in team Boom morned it. Sonic included.

IDW: Sonic shed tears in the Scrapnick Island Issue. Even if it was “Mecha Sonic’s” tears I’ll count it anyways because it’s a good loophole and it came out of Sonic’s eyes.

Movie 1: It’s implied he indeed cried during the baseball scene. The sources being a deleted scene and story-board of the film.

Prime: This doesn’t really count, but Sonic teared up in the first episode when he was held captive by the Chaos Council and had light blasted in his eyes, when he was in darkness. Then Sonic actually cried in episode 7 when he ate a seadog. Either because he was home-sick or starving.

(In the last episode of season two it’s implied he might cry in the next episode. Especially with the shot of him looking on the verge of tears and then covered his eyes in the background of the last shot, but we’ll see.)

By the way. You can see the instant improvement from episode 1 to 7 of the tears animation. Just thought I’d say that.

My Overall Thoughts

Hold on because this is going to be a long ride.

First thing I’d like to discuss is the mandate itself.

I personally don’t believe it means, “Sonic shouldn’t cry.”

(Which has been stated a bunch)

If that were the case, I don’t think this majority of moments (specifically the recent ones) would’ve happened. I think the mandate meant Sonic couldn’t and or shouldn’t go too far with his emotions. I don’t think the mandate existing makes any since, but I won’t get into that.

My point is, Sonic can cry, just not in an overly dramatized way unless it’s done for comedic purposes.

(I say that because of Sonic Boom and the 7th episode of Prime examples. Which are obviously not meant to be taken seriously)

My opinions on Sonic crying.

It’s not necessarily needed, but I don’t mind if it’s done well. I do believe Sonic shouldn’t go too far unless the situation does.

One Issue in Archie when Sonic’s entire life was basically ruined, is a good example. If you’re going to have such calamities happen to him, especially since he has zero ego or mask to hold onto, I think it’s a fair enough scenario for him to react as drastic as his misfortune.

But I believe if he were to cry in something like the Metal Virus. (Just for an example) it could be like how Espio teared up after Vector’s sacrifice.

Crazy idea. Let’s talk about Shadow for a minute.

Shadow is one of the most stoic characters in the entire franchise. He barely smiles, gets excited, or displays any overly positive emotions. While Sonic rarely cries, gets angry, or shows any harsh negative emotions. Shadow and Sonic are opposites because of that.

Sonic’s overall a positive and outgoing guy who wants to keep moving forward. Whenever he has the time to worry, he runs. Faces his problems head on. Sonic only let’s a small amount of his true emotions out when helping someone else. In general Sonic’s a pretty optimistic character.

Shadow on the other hand is a reserved and serious guy. Who wants what’s best for the world too, but in a more calculated and planned out manner. But for some reason, in Sonic Adventure 2 after Amy encouraged Shadow to save the world, (Which reminded him of Maria’s real wish) He sheds a tear.

I repeat. Shadow is the most stoic character in the entire franchise. Who rarely shows his emotions. And yet he cries.

Why can’t Sonic? To be fair, Sonic usually doesn’t have time to think, let alone worry about how he feels. But if Shadow himself can have a short moment of releasing his emotional baggage, why can’t the blue blur?

Is Sonic even as happy as he let’s on?

I’d say he’s genuinely happy half of the time. Then the other half Sonic’s internalizing everything negative in him. Everyone knows Sonic’s overall upbeat, but we’ve seen plenty of times (In the Metal Virus specifically) when he’s thinking, or enduring the chaos around him, he doubts himself. Sonic has these insecurities and emotions he barely let’s anyone see.

Even in Sonic Prime while Sonic shows the most guilt, sincerity, anger, fear, and sadness in the show. He sometimes still puts on a front and acts like everything’s fine.

Sonic Unleashed I’m pretty sure was the first and only time we’ve seen him mope for a minute. All because Amy didn’t know who he was. So, he does have some level of insecurities lingering every once in a while.

Can Sonic crying even work?

How I interpret him crying is when he’s alone. Some people theorize in certain instances like SA2 and Unleashed with Shadow and Chip’s sacrifices, he cried a little. I’m fascinated by this idea. I believe it’s the most in character way to let him cry. Maybe even something like X when his face isn’t shown, but you know how he’s feeling.

Even if we do see Sonic’s face, him crying or tearing up could be shown without being over the top. Normalize it in a way that doesn’t fly off the handle. His expression could have a hint of frustration, anger, or exhaustion. Crying is normal and I don’t see Sonic crying as out of character because it’s been done plenty of times.

It’d be nice if it happened in order to make Sonic feel more believable and sympathetic. As long as the dude’s not on the floor whaling, I’m sure it can work.

Final Thoughts

There are other ways to show Sonic’s emotions. Again, crying doesn’t have to happen, but it does help the writing feel less unnecessarily limited of what kind of emotions can be displayed on this character.

Though there are benefits too. Like finding fun loopholes or small animated details like in IDW and Prime. Sonic not crying so much makes the times he does (or may do in the future) feel earned and impactful. The examples before prove it can be done without taking away what makes Sonic who he is. It just needs to be subtle, quiet, and quick. (Or humorous) Depends on what you think.

At the end of it all, Sonic’s a tough hedgehog. Him shedding a few tears won’t ever change that.

It was unexpected of Archie to suddenly tell him that they were going on a vacation to Alola.

“But.. how come?” The redhead questioned. “We don’t usually plan a trip until summer.”

It was October.

Archie tried to ease his suspicions. “Babe, it’s our 5th anniversary! Don’t ye remember?”

“Oh god- of course!” He smacked his head in frustration. “Please forgive me. I’ve been working so much lately and I-“

He shut Maxie up with a kiss.

“Mmm~”

“Mmmhmhmhm~”

Maxie then broke the kiss for a moment and looked at his boyfriend. “But, we have a little girl with us now. If you were planning a dinner or something-“

“Tabitha, Matt, Courtney, and Shelly are coming with us. It’s their anniversaries too, y’know. They can watch Sierra while we have a night to ourselves.”

“I’m acting like our daughter is a burden… trust me, she’s far from it. I hope you understand that.”

Archie guffawed. “Oh Max, c’mon now. I know ye better than that. I know ye love our little girl. But I need someone to watch her while I take ye out to dinner one night.”

“Oh, Archie~ You really don’t need-“

“Ah Ah! Yes I do, snookums. *kiss* It’s all for ye, baby. For us.”

Maxie smiles and cups Archie’s face in his hands. “I love you.”

“I love ye too, Max. I know all of us are gonna have a great time.”

Around 2 months later, The 7 of them boarded onto a ship to sail for the Alola region. It took around 2 days for them to get there, so once they did, they booked a big hotel room on Poni island for all of them.

“Wow, this place looks amazing!” Matt exclaimed, his arm around Tabitha’s shoulder. “I hope we get a room aaaaall to ourselves~” He chuckles, smirking seductively at his husband.

“For god’s sake, Matt.” Tabitha blushes, looking away. “We have a child here!” He giggles when Matt kisses his cheek.

“Yeah, all of us have a room.” Archie explains, picking his daughter up. “And our little emerald will sleep with us!”

“Papa! Papa! You said you would teach me how to swim, right?”

He smiles and nuzzles her face with his beard, making her giggle. “Of course I will, me little scamp! Yer uncle Matt and yer auntie Shelly will too! Right, guys?”

“Of course we will.” Shelly smiles, motioning Archie to hand Sierra over to her. “I’ll teach you to swim like a pretty mermaid, how would you like that?”

“Uh huh! You really will, auntie?”

“Awww, you know I will, kiddo!” Then smirks at her wife. “And your auntie Courtney will too, right babe?”

She went wide eyed, Shelly knows good and well she doesn’t like to swim. “Umm-“ She cut herself off, looking at her goddaughter’s eyes plead to her. “Of c-course! Of course, sweetheart.” She smiles, petting Sierra’s head.

Shelly handed her back to her dads, and they split into their rooms. Not much later, they all had dinner together.

“Now, Sierra. Your papa and I are going to dinner by ourselves tomorrow night.” Maxie told her. “Your aunts and uncles are going to be watching you while we’re out.”

“But daddy… why can’t I go with you and papa?” She asked.

Tabitha took the conversation over. “Your daddies have some adult things that they need to take care of, sweetie. But don’t worry, the four of us will be with you until they get back.”

She smiled. “Okay.” She turned back to her daddies. “Please don’t have too much fun without me.”

“Oh, never.” Maxie chuckled, kissing her forehead.

The next evening, Archie and Maxie left together and headed towards a particularly fancy restaurant on another island in Alola.

“I can tell that you’ve been keeping something from me~” Maxie teases, watching Archie’s face redden. “What’s with all the fancy trips and expensive restaurants, dear? It’s only our 5th anniversary.”

“Well…” He muttered sheepishly. “You’ll see soon, baby. I promise. I want to take you somewhere special after dinner.”

“Okay, I’m looking forward to it~”

Once they were finished with dinner, Archie took Maxie towards a big beach nearby the restaurant.

“Beautiful sight, isn’t it?” Archie asked.

“Oh yes. He is.” Maxie said back, watching Archie’s face and ears turn red. “It’s beautiful.”

“So are ye, Max. Listen.. we’ve been dating for 5 years now, and… there’s something I really wanna ask ye.”

His eyes went wide, knowing what was about to happen next. “Arch-“

He knelt down on one knee, and he held a small, black box in his hands. “Max… yer the one and only man in my life that has made me the happiest I could ever feel.. and I wanna spend the rest of my life with ye..”

He covered his mouth, tears dotting the corners of his eyes. “A-Archie..”

“Maxie Matsubasa… love of my life, will ye make me the happiest man on earth? Will ye marry me?” He asked, looking up at his lover with a gleam in his eyes.

The other man couldn’t hold in his tears anymore. He took his glasses off and slowly nods his head. “Yes! Y-yes! Yehehehes!” He cried out, then being scooped up into Archie’s arms after having the engagement ring put on his finger. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you!”

“I love ye, baby.. forever and always.” Archie smiles, holding him close as he cried. “No tears, Max.. only love and happiness~”

“I-I’m just s-so happy- *sob* I didn’t know y-you were going to do this! I.. I simply don’t deserve you.”

Archie grins and kisses his cheek. “Oh stop that~ Of course ye do. *kiss* I love ye, Maxie.” His kisses trail down to the base of his neck.

“Aha-! *snort* Archie-! That tickles! Wahahahait-! Hehehehehehehe!” He giggles as the kisses continued. “Stohohohohop ihihihihihihihihit! *snort* my neck ihihihis ticklish!”

“Mmmm~ if I get to hear those sweet giggles during this wonderful moment, then I can take any revenge ye give me. *kiss*” His hands get clingy and wrap around his torso.

He let out a big snort. “AHAH! Archie plehehehease! Thehehehe moment’s behehehing ruhuhuined!”

“Nah~ it’s not, love. I love hearing ye laugh~ *kiss* but not as much as I love ye.”

“Cheeheheheeheesy bahastard~” Maxie giggles, trying to squirm out of the ticklish grip.

“Oh, that’s it!” Archie clung to him and picked him up, bridal style. “Now yer gonna get it!” He practically smothered his face and neck in kisses.

“Hehehehehehey! Ahahah- put mehehehe down! Ahahahahrchie-! Stop- hahah- thahat tihihihickles!”

“Nope. *kiss* Gotta practice for our wedding day, honey. I’m gonna spoil ye rotten~ *kiss kiss* because ye deserve every moment of attention and lovin’s I give ye~”

He practically carried him the entire way back to their hotel room. Everyone was shocked to see the redhead being carried in Archie’s arms.

“What in the world?” Shelly cackled.

Sierra smiles at them. “Papa is so strong!”

“Hehehehe- He won’t put me down!” The magma leader giggles as Archie nuzzles him with his beard. “Archie! Hehehehee- your beard!”

“Guess what, everyone? Max and I are getting married!” Archie announced, making everyone stand up from their seats.

“About time!” Matt guffawed, clapping his hands.

“About time is right!” Tabitha added. “You two have been together for 5 years! We were worried that one of you would never pop the big question!”

Courtney giggles. “So, who proposed?”

Maxie was too flustered to say anything, he still kept his hands over his face.

Archie cackles. “Awww, he’s flustered. *kiss* I did. And he said yes! Ain’t my man the cutest?”

“Archie PLEASE.” He tries to stop his giggling, but he can’t. He’s just too happy not to. He had NO clue that Archie was doing this.

Sierra ran up to them. “You guys are getting married? But papa, I thought you and daddy were already married!”

“Hehe, we sure acted like we were already married, didn’t we?” He smiles and looks down to her. “But it’s true, sweetheart. We are getting married. How would ye like to be the flower girl at the wedding?”

She gasps. “Really? I can?”

“Well, of course my little emerald!” He sets Maxie down and she gets up on his shoulders. “Yer our little girl, so we’d love to have ye be the flower girl.”

Maxie stood up on his feet and stood next to them, not able to get the happy grin off his face. “Archie, I love you.”

“Awww, I love ye too, babe.” Archie smiles, putting an arm around him.

Sierra soon got sleepy, leaning on Archie’s shoulder. They celebrated the engagement later that evening after putting Sierra to bed. There was plenty of wine and laughter.

“Seriously though, congrats on the engagement, you two.” Shelly laughed. “We’re all so happy for you.”

Everyone else agreed.

“Thanks, Shell.” Archie smiles, holding his red headed fiancé close. “I couldn’t be happier to be here with my Max.” *kiss.*

His face turns red with a blush. “Archie~ I couldn’t be happier either. I love you.”

“I love ye more.”

He reached up and kissed his cheek. “I love you, the most.”

Matt chuckled and coughed out “cheesy”, making everyone cackle, but not too hard, since their little girl was fast asleep.

Oldest is ofc the first, maybe the mentally ill one (cause mumbo and grian locked him up in an island)

But might as well drop some lore while I’m at it

Oldest- Grumbot (OG from Season seven) “human” name: Luan Ronnie Jumbo (dreamslayer)

For his middle name I picked Ronnie because it means ruler (he pretty much parents his brothers) , and advice (literally his purpose), also Ronnie is such a good name tbh

Middle children- Grumbot Prime and Emperor Grumbot both from season 9, I made them twins since they don’t have a canon age difference unlike Grumbot and Jrumbot who were also made in the same season but have a canon age difference, grian literally saying Jrumbot was grumbots little brother. “Human” names: Parker Charles Jumbo (dreamslayer) for Grumbot Prime, and Emmett Oliver Jumbo (dreamslayer) for Emperor Grumbot

For the twins, their middle names correspond to who they are most like, so Parker is more like Grian and Emmett is more like Mumbo

Youngest- Jrumbot (also from season 7) “human” name: Archie Ryan Jumbo (dreamslayer)

Okay for the middle name he’s named after Scar because he is in fact the only jumbo kid who actually likes him, lazy ik but still

OKAY SO HOW THEY BECAME HUMAN:

No this isn’t the birds and the bees lesson because THEY WERENT MADE THAT WAY. So Xisuma started to notice how these MASSIVE robots were like conquering the hermitcraft multiverse (which apparently is canon) and killing a crap ton of people, specifically Scar, so he looked into it and turns out! They are Mumbo and Grian’s kids so he walked up to them one day and said, “take care of ya sons” so they go after them, or Xisuma forces them to, they fight and fight, and grian uses this BIG ASS spell that would turn the grumbots into their weakest form, which is human children (low key insulting to us humans ngl)

So they come back and Xisuma sees them like disheveled with like four crying little kids on them and he’s like, let’s take it one at a time mkay? So he takes the younger kids, and makes it so they won’t be ‘born’ until Grian and Mumbo Are ready for another kid because going from no kids to four kids in the span of 2 weeks is crazy

How does he do this? Well he genetically modifies them so that they revert back to just eggs that won’t hatch until exposed to heat, so he keeps them locked up in a freezer until the time is right

Ngl that sounds bad but trust me it’s not

Anyway grian and Mumbo soon realize they can’t really raise a kid none the less four on the hermitcraft server since there are no schools, hospitals, clinics, daycares, playgrounds, etc, and they panic cause they don’t wanna leave, so Xisuma adds a small sub server attached to the hermit craft server called, “the hermit suburbs” were people can live normal lives while still being hermits, and eventually more hermits and even some folks from empires and the life series go and live there and still go on the hermitcraft server.

So that’s where Grian and Mumbo raise the rest of those weird robot human hybrids

also after 2 years of Grian and Mumbo taking care of Luan, they are like, “yeah we can take another now” and then Xisuma gives them the twins and they are like “why are there two” and Xisuma is like, “I want this to be over with as soon as possible so I’m just giving you two deal with it” and so they just deal with it, but they soon realize how much more work it is, since the twins are VERY bad babies, what I mean is they cry all the time, don’t eat food they don’t like, don’t get dressed without a fight , etc, and so they wait 6 YEARS when they are almost teenagers to get the final egg, which is Archie, who is the best by far.

So that explains the age gap if you were wondering

i think what is super cute in modern fandom expression that I've seen is that in terms of making OCs or AUs is that sound seems to have a bigger role now than from what I remember when I was young. which I'm thinking has a lot to do with being able to clip audio easily or being able to make multi-track playlists whenever. y'all out here with reels of your art with voice claims and some of the most thoughtfully and artfully crafted soundtracks-- not even playlists, some of that shit is a straight up soundtrack level be real

so real quick, my iteration is literally just them chilling, hanging out, being together in their mid 30s- early 40s, and then sometimes flashing back to their child/teen years in the 90s because tl;dr i have miiiiiinor beef my childhood turtles weren't quite as "90s" as they "could have been" (nvm I'm cackling at the milennial pop culture refs in Mutant Mayhem drop kicking me back into my adolescence)

but mehehehehe, keeping that they listened to Public Enemy and The Jungle Brothers

and aside from Top 40 musicians of the time... I feel like being outsiders themselves, having to sneak around to explore and learn about people and what's above the sewers had them eavesdropping into a lot of nighttime venues and getting into the underground and various niche subculture scenes that daytime Top 40 didn't play.

cannot tell me the lights, thumping and noise from bands playing hardcore or house or hosting cyphers or raves didn't attract these curious and funky little green dudes like moths to a flame

... Leo definitely fell in deep with the gregorian chant phase, soothing sounds of nature fads , a big fan of Orbital and he fell into that electronic, house, trance, eurodance rabbit hole right after. he also got into Celtic folk music but when his brothers caught his ass studying Michael Flatley to incorporate Riverdance footwork into his ninjutsu he got teased so mercilessly that he took great care to hide listening to it... which just made his stealth better so joke's on them heehoo

Not to mention they're from New York City, the underground music scene is always bangin' no matter the decade; feel like rap and punk got a lot of tracks on their mix tapes back in the day

Raph getting into the metal scene in his own exploring the city trips, and then progressed to music with that boom bap sound (cuz baby boy needs a way to come down off those high intensity moods idk ijs)

Donnie... just the amalgamation of his brothers, he needs that background noise while he's chewing on schematics and protoype development, he would definitely have been the mixtape maker/recording bootlegger (along with Mikey)

Mikey absolutely tagged along with his brothers sometimes whenever they went to their spots for music, though he himself backflipped into ska 'cuz Mikey is always for the people

for the future reference of anyone reading through the egghogs tag, metal shadow and metal silver are NO LONGER CANON! instead, the egghogs were made special individualized caretakers at around age 6 or 7, after eggman tires of orbot and cubot being away all the time to keep them occupied. their caretakers are metal sonic for sonic, omega for shadow, and the bits from archie (but they look like silver instead of sonic) for silver!

all three of them were specifically designed for the purpose each egghog was to be trained for.

metal sonic is bad at taking care of sonic, feeding him baby food for way too long and barely caring about his wellbeing. metal hates his job and wants to be a death weapon instead. despite that, he's a very effective tutor and rival, pushing sonic to greater heights. great spar partner. sonic is willfully ignorant of metal's hatred of his care responsibilities.

e-123 omega generally doesn't do feelings, but does do guns real good. is a great companion for the shooting range.

the bits are the friendliest out of all the caretakers, liking to nestle into the gaps between silver's bangs as he organizes. they're industrious little helpers, and they help silver become as efficient at work as possible.

“Y/n, wake up," I heard Dave whisper. I woke up and looked at the clock beside me and it read '7:02am'. "I can have five more minutes," I groaned. "You told me to wake you up at seven, it's two past seven," he replied. "Three more minutes then," I yawned. "Y/n. Get. Up." He said, nudging me to the edge of the bed. Then our baby, Alfie, started crying. "Alfie needs boob. I don't have any," he said, kissing my cheek. I groaned loudly and slugged to his room.

He came into Alfie's room mid feed and whistled. "You're so gross," I rolled my eyes and held back a laugh. "Says the one that eats food off her shirt," he replied, standing behind me and massaging my shoulders. "Would you rather me waste it or drop it on the floor," I said. "How much does this kid eat?" He asked. "However much he feels like every two to three hours," I replied. "I could eat that much," he said. "You do eat that much," I laughed lightly, "can you burp him?". He took Alfie and started patting his back. "Us drummers need their energy," he said. "And us mummy's need our energy but i don't empty the cupboards within five hours of the shop being done," I replied, going out the bedroom and into our room. "Maybe we should be an ingredient household," he mocked. "You'd eat flour," I said, changing into my blouse and skirt. Just as Dave was about to say something, Alfie burped, making Dave laugh.

"Okay, I'm off now. I've briefed you and once again, only call if he is dead or on fire," I said, grabbing my car keys and bag. "What happens in the death is in progress?" He joked. "David Eric Grohl," I scolded. "Have a great day," he said, kissing my lips. "You too. I know you can do this," I praised, heading out the door.

"Look who's back!" My work and best friend, Nicole, cheered as she ran over to give me a hug. "Back and more ready to work than ever," I smiled, squeezing her tight. "Sorry to ruin your mood but we have a meeting first thing," she said somewhat carefully. "And I'm already fantasising about killing Andy," I rolled my eyes as we headed to the meeting room.

"Ah, Y/n, welcome back! How's Dave and Alfie?" My boss, Andrew, said. "Dave is amazing, loving being a daddy. Archie is loving Dave. I'm loving... food, mainly," I replied. "Well, thank you for coming back. Let's jump right into the meeting," he said.

The meeting was very bland, just something about partnering with another company for a project.

I finally got back to my old office. I've missed the view. Through the completely glass windows, I could see the cityscape, windows glistening, cars dashing around and people tending to their everyday needs. My first piece of work since coming back was now on my desk, getting my blood flowing to get back to work.

Ten minutes after my lunch break and pump, my work phone started ringing. "Hello, you've reached Y/n at-" I started. "Y/n, help. He won't stop crying. I- I don't know w-what to do," I heard Dave say, distressed and tears evident in his voice. "Honey, what happened?" I replied, concern getting to me. "He won't stop crying and I've done everything. Feeding, diaper change, nap, play time, book. Everything," he cried. "Has he hurt anything or got nappy rash or got any more teeth coming through?" I asked, searching for a reason our son was literally wailing on the other side of the phone. "No, I've checked," he replied out of breath. "Okay, give me fifteen to twenty minutes and I will be there. Stay strong, handsome," I said, shoving my things back into my bag. "Okay. I love you," he said and hung up the phone.

"Andrew, I really need to go home. I'm so fucking sorry but Alfie is literally screaming murder," I rushed. "I understand. Will you be in tomorrow?" He replied. "Yes! Thank you!" I replied, yelling as I ran to the lift.

I got into my car and sped home, most likely earning myself a few speeding tickets on the way.

"Dave, angel, I'm home," I yelled from the front door, hearing Alfie screaming as loud as possible. "Help me," he cried, handing our son to me. "Look at me. You're doing fucking amazing, lots of people don't have dads because they can't handle it. But here you are, you're doing amazing," I praised.

I stripped Alfie down to his nappy and checked him all over for any indication of what could be making him make me and Dave go deaf. I lightly pressed on his stomach and I could feel the gas in his stomach. "He's got trapped gas," I sighed. "How? I burped him," he also sighed. "It happens to everyone, honey. He needs a little massage or some crap that I read in that stupid book," I said. "Teach me because if I have to go deaf from a child, I will shove my drumsticks in my chest," he sighed.

I showed him how to get the gas un trapped or whatever and the second he farted, he was silent. "Thank you so fucking much. I love you," he smiled tiredly, hugging me and kissing me. "Well, I'm home for the rest of the day and it's two forty-seven now. What should we do?" I asked, putting Alfie's outfit back on. "He missed nap time and I'm going to cry if I don't sleep soon so how about a nap?" He said, rubbing our sons back. "That sounds amazing I need to change into my pyjamas first so you have a little cuddle with the velociraptor," I replied, handing him the fucking dinosaur that came out of me. "I'd say he's a pterodactyl," he said, kissing our son on the head. "True. How about you put him to bed while I change," I suggested. "Deal," he agreed.

I changed into my pyjamas and saw Dave sprawled out on the bed in just his boxers. "Baby got back," I sang, slapping his ass. "How the tables have turned," he laughed as I pretty much just collapsed into bed. He pulled me to his chest and stroked my hair, kissing the top of my head. "I love you so much," he whispered. "I love you so much too," I replied, closing my eyes.

whats the status on the kittys

They are doing well. They are definetely entering their puberty stage (i think they are around 7 months old i want to say?) Theyve gotten bigger and play very rough with each other and i often worry that theyre hurting each other when theyre playing. Archie (the gray one) is especially rough and likes to pin down and bite the back of Maxie's neck until he cries which makes me so sad i always split them apart but it seems thats part of their game?? Because Maxie doesnt usually fight back or hiss he just kind of. Takes it. Idk its apparently a way that cats show dominance which is not a very nice thing to do your brother. Archie also had very bad diarrhea a few months ago but with medicine he got better.(this is why his nickname is The Shitter. Maxie is The Pisser because he pees funny) He still occasionally gets diarrhea despite me cycling pretty consistently through the same foods.. and its not consistent enough for me to give him medicine for it because he hates it. Def something ill bring up when i take them to get checked out and fixed. Hes also gotten a lot cuddlier as of late lol like he still mostly keeps to himself and hides under a chair or the bed during the day but whenever he comes out he wants allllll the attention

I also feel a little bad sometimes that i live in such a small apartment i really would like them to have more space to run around and stretch their legs but they dont seem to mind. I think they sleep most of the time im not home during the day and when I am home is when they get silly and start playing (usually this is at night when im trying to go to bed and they decide its time to battle to the Death on the windowsill directly above my bed. I still have a cut on my nose from when one of them fell on me last week😭) They are absolute terrors but i love them with all my heart and they always come say hi when i wake up in the morning (insert that super loud laughing dog audio meme)

I have been meaning to get around to bringing them with me on walks to the park in the kitty backpack i got for them because i think it would be an enriching experience for them and they can get out of my tiny stuffy apartment prison but they seem to get so stressed out when i try to it breaks my heart. Baby steps! Thank you for asking i love talking about my babies ~

62. One criticism of Moishe I totally agree with is how horrible it was for him to take back the apartment. His grandchildren were growing up in that apartment. Their safety and security should have come first. Not that Midge didn’t have anywhere to take them, Abe and Rose’s place is perfectly fine, and they spend plenty of time in Queens, once the Maisels move, but still. Those kids didn’t desserve to be jerked around that way, no matter how Midge and Joel (mostly Joel) were acting.

63. I never realized even back in the 50′s/60′s you had to pay for temple seats on high holy days. Fuck I’m so glad I never bothered with synagogue as an adult. As if life isn’t expensive enough.

But again, it’s an interesting contrast between Lenny doing some light emotional lifting for Midge (The cab, the sympathy over her busted marriage, the joint, the parting joke to make her laugh) and Joel (letting Midge take care of him as usual).

123. I love this episode. It is an al-time favorite. It establishes Midge and Lenny as friends with a new, but solid bond. It has some great Susie moments, and a great Midge set. Great stuff with Abe and Rose and Abe and Moishe. It’s so solid. I think it might be my favorite season 1 episode. <3

The way I keep rereading these chapters makes me think I have an obsession the way Regina is obsessed with emma. In chapter 7 Regina reminisced on the time emma was upset at regina because of the dream she had where Regina cheated and I was just wondering if it was possible to see how it played out. I loved reading the short snippet of it in the chapter and I'm dying to read more

“Emma?” 

Regina called out from the kitchen as she heard the front door to her apartment open and close, without hearing Emma shouting out to greet her, as she normally did once she arrived home. 

When no response came, Regina hurried out of the kitchen and emerged into the living room to investigate. There, she found Emma sitting on the sofa unlacing her shoes, her face screwed up into a terribly grumpy little expression. 

“Angel?” Regina entered the room. “You’re not going to say hi?” 

Green eyes barely gave her a glance before settling back down on the task of taking off her shoes. 

“Oh, yeah. Hi.” 

Disconcerted by Emma’s abruptness, Regina immediately approached the sofa where Emma was sitting. The two hadn’t texted much throughout the day; Regina didn’t receive the cute little morning text that Emma usually sent once she woke up if Regina left for work before she woke up. The older woman just assumed Emma was busy, though it was unlike her little girl to not communicate that if that was the case. 

“What’s wrong, baby? Did you have a bad day?” 

The concerned woman sat next to her girl and brushed some hair away from her cheek so she could see her face properly. 

“Nothing’s wrong,” Emma said, her tone clipped and eyes still avoiding her Mommy’s.  

Her tone was unmistakably irritated, face still crumpled into a deep scowl. Regina frowned, she began to feel hurt by Emma’s attitude. 

“Have I done something wrong?” Regina tentatively posed. 

“You cheated on me,” Emma snapped.  

Completely staggered, Regina replied, “I-I’m sorry?” 

“You. Cheated. On. Me. I saw you,” Emma repeated, her pout worsening. 

Regina almost felt like laughing. Of all the things that Emma could have possibly said, this seemed the most preposterous. A brief thought flashed through her brain that wondered if Emma was having some sort of delusional episode. From the moment that she first saw her little girl, she hadn’t even been able to think about being with someone else romantically - let alone cheat on her baby. Emma knew how obsessed her Mommy was with her, so the suggestion that Regina would do anything of the sort was so ludicrous that it was funny.  

Trying to swallow her gobsmacked laugh, Regina started to explain herself. 

“Angel I don’t know when you saw me cheating on you or with whom, but I can assure you that it wasn’t—” 

“In my dream, I saw you kissing someone else.” 

The girl interrupted, sounding deadly serious. 

What on earth…

“You saw me cheating…in your dream?” Regina clarified. 

Emma nodded and kicked off her shoes a little too aggressively. 

“Baby, dreams don’t constitute reality. I’d never do that to you, I love you more than anything.” 

“I know,” Emma huffed. “But I’m still going to be grumpy for a little while.” 

“Grumpy at me?” 

“Yes.” 

“I haven’t done anything wrong!” Regina finally exclaimed. 

“Stop trying to rationalise my emotions! Archie told me that I’m allowed to feel the way I want to in order to process my thoughts!” Emma snipped back. 

For a few moments, Regina just stared at Emma, almost waiting for her to tell her that she was just pulling a stupid prank. That didn’t happen, and Emma just sat with her arms folded over her chest and slumped back into the sofa. 

“Okay, silly girl,” Regina leaned over and pressed a kiss to the side of Emma’s head. “Come find me when you’ve calmed down.” 

With that, she got up and left to continue making dinner. 

Perhaps she was too confident and optimistic when she expected Emma to immediately come to her senses and toddle along after her to apologise for being ridiculous. Whatever it was, after an hour had passed and Emma had not come into the kitchen to help Mommy with dinner, or at least keep her company, Regina had grown tense and anxious. Mommy thought she could successfully call Emma's bluff, but as stubborn as ever, Emma did not budge. There were a lot of things Regina could handle, but her baby girl being unhappy with her was not one. 

Once she heard the sound of the TV begin playing in the living room, Regina decided enough was enough. 

A part of her couldn’t actually believe she was entertaining such absolute nonsense.  The strict Mistress inside her advised her to grab Emma and bend her over her knee for being so rude and avoidant all day. But, her soft, simpering, whipped Mommy-side instructed her to go and make amends with her little princess, for the sins of her dream-self. 

It was no surprise which side Regina listened to. 

Out of the freezer came a pint of Emma's favourite Ben and Jerry's caramel ice cream and placed on the counter. As that defrosted a bit, Regina busied herself chopping up a whole banana into a bowl. Normally, the girl only had half of a banana with her ice cream, but since she wasn’t there to oversee, Mommy snuck more fruit into the pre-dinner dessert. A single scoop of slightly melted caramel ice cream was mixed in after and Regina silently finalised her plan in her mind. 

With a bowl of ice cream in hand and a look of remorse on her face, Regina re-entered the living room, determined to atone for ‘her actions.’ Emma sat on the sofa, still looking utterly grumpy and adorable, hugging her knees close to her chest and watching her favourite show; Spongebob. She didn’t even look up when Regina entered the room, until Mommy cleared her throat and spoke. 

“I’m sorry that you had a bad dream, munchkin,” the older woman said with as much sincerity that she could muster. 

Walking up to Emma, Regina knelt in front of the girl, who opened her knees to look down to see what her Mommy was up to. 

Through Emma’s open legs, Regina handed her the bowl of ice cream. 

“You know that Mama belongs to you. Don’t you?” 

Thankfully, Emma was only wearing a sweater and panties, so Mommy had easy access to her pussy. Caressing one of Emma’s legs with one hand, Regina used the other to run her thumb up Emma’s slit, which was covered by her yellow panties. 

Suddenly, Emma felt very guilty for making her Mommy feel like she needed to make up for something that wasn’t actually her fault. 

“Mommy, you don’t have to—”

“Shhh,” Regina interrupted, hooking her finger into Emma’s underwear and pulling it to the side. “Let me show you how much I love you, princess.”

Sherlock & Co. : The Three Students

I really like the framing device on this one, Sherlock needing to make a speech and faking out like it's going to suck. Very clever. I want to take a moment to theorize about Mariana. Like I said in my last post, she obviously has some secrets going on. And now we know she's got at least a minor history of rule-breaking that she feels intensely self-conscious about. Maybe a clue that she broke some laws at some point and feels really ashamed? I also feel like we're just getting to know her better lately as more tidbits have been adding up. She cares a lot about looking respectable, but actually is an intense fan of a lot of things (Taylor Swift, problematic boy wizard, and the singer from The Dancing Men). Sometimes her self-conscious nature makes her a little mean about anyone being "weird". I think it comes up with John more than Sherlock, since John is the one who cares so much about being liked by everyone. If Mariana pokes him he'll actually understand and engage with her on debating what's acceptable. As for the Mrs. Hudson bit, I suspect that either Sherlock calls her that because it's some sort of sly hint that he knows something about her hidden past, or Mrs. Hudson was an important caregiver to Sherlock at some point and he often slips into calling kind women who take care of him Mrs. Hudson as a result. I hope at some point we get to see a significant one-on-one between Sherlock and Mariana. I wonder what their vibe is like at this point. Back to the episode! 1. It is very cute that John is calling Archie "their" dog now. 2. It was actually really nice to have a relatively low-stakes case for once. 3. John. Baby. You edit these episodes. Why did you make yourself into SUCH an idiot for this one? There was no reason to include you waking up Mariana and vomiting in her bathroom. Do you see your value as being the show's humor? Is this another thing you seriously need therapy about? 4. For some reason my Spotify has been switching to part 2 of The Red-Headed League whenever I let it go from one episode to the next and I got the brief impression that the conclusion of Three Students was going to be a mega-intense, pulling-from-all-the-past-episodes, season finale thing. I was very relieved that no, it's really just a student cheating on a test. 5. Kayleigh. Kayleigh. This is why students lie about their grandparents dying. There were much better options! 6. That's not a criticism of the episode though. It actually fits very nicely with Sherlock's points about crime. It's often spontaneous, emotional, irrational, and petty. Yes, there were better options for how to deceive the school, but the best option was to not lie at all and do the responsible, if disappointing thing. 7. Hot damn would I love to see a "speech" like this. But was that class list a stealth set of listener shout-outs? It's gotta be, right? 8. Excellent mystery and acting. A decent amount of racial diversity. Still needs more queer!

oooh! so strange how they just ended off ofmd at ep 6... i wonder why??? so strange, but i have random hcs on what the kiddos on the revenge would fixate on!! (+ ages too!! :>)

Eddie (ages 1 - 4): squids, dolls and beaches

- squids: oooh, eddie just loves squids!! mostly because mama stede calls him 'little squid', and that he finds them so silly! they just swim in such a strange way? eddie wants to try!! so now he swims like a squiddy XD and he reads lots of books about fishies and squids ;u; (and him and fang and izzy are all just sitting around each other and info dumping about each others favorite sea creatures ;u;)

- dolls: it was one day when he saw a vintage doll sitting on a shelf while the crew was out getting supplies at land. and he got super duper small, like he wanted the dolly. and mama stede ofc saw this and brought it for eddie, and then as a little surprise before bed, boom!! that same doll eddie stared at all that time ago!! now he carries it everywhere whenever he's tiny, and he dresses her into different outfits (that mama stede sewed up for him, because he wanted the same outfits mama stede had for his doll ;u;)

- beaches: oooh! i know he loves those beaches!! just sitting on the soft sand on a hot summers day really gets eddie all fuzzy and small :> (and as a kiwi living in nz, i feel as to say he would love the beaches here :>)

Izzy (ages 0 - 3): dress up, singing and whales

- dress up: oooh, he definitely got this from mama stede. but especially after ep 6, singinf with wee john all dressed up and had all that pretty makeup on, ooh!! now its a normal thing to dress up and wear such sparkly makeup!!

- singing: this is also from ep 6. :> izzy just love love loveeees singing now. with fang's ukelele playing, tiny izzy is just babbling up a storm!!! oooh!! he just loves to sing now and wants everyone to listen ;u;

- whales: i feel from when he carved out that wooden whale and gave it to lucius, he just adores whales (as a past whale fixator, he suits it to me so shhh) and hes always just sitting and reading a book about whales, or staring out at sea, hoping to see one :0

Fang (ages 1 - 5): fishes (mostly starfish and octopus), ukelele and swiming (+ just anything ocean related tbh)

- fishies: oooh!! from ep 5, he just love love loveees fishies and sea creatures!! especially the starfish and octopus. his whole little room is fishy themed!! just spoilt with so many little trinkets and baby stuff that stede gets him ;u;

- ukelele: ooh ooh ooooh!! he has this ukelele that hes had since he was little, its just a wooden uke with little painted fishies and tropical things on it to remind him of the beach ;u;

- swiming: oooh!! swiming so so much fun for fang!! he just adores everything related tk the sea, sitting out on the ship to see the pretty sea, or just splashing in water, but swimming is just his favorite!! and on the beach too!! and then he finds that eddie likes the beach too??? yay!! they can swim together!! :0

Jim (ages 4 - 7): storytime, painting, halloween

- storytime: oooh- jimmy just loves to make up tales, or share their own stories of their past, but with less scary parts of course. but it makes jimmy look like a hero!! and all the other littles seem to enjoy their stories! so much fun!! even if it has a few tiny lies to make it less scary :)

- painting: jim is such a big big creative kiddo!! painting on anything and everything they can get their hands onto!! and archie and olu are so proud of them!! just being so cool and creative??? like woahhhh :0

- halloween: idk why, but kiddo jimmy just gives me massive spooky month vibes (and hey!! perfect timing since its halloween soon!! :0) and they're the ones who tell the crew allll about halloween, info dumping all the fun things they did every single year for the spooky month :) and they always pull out with a party!! always doing cool decorations and paint on everything!!! :0

Lucius (ages 6 - 12): writing (ofc), drama/plays, sewing

- writing: writing is already such a big thing in lucius' life when he's big, so of course it goes down to when he's a kiddo! he writes so many silly stories all the time, also helping when jimmy or izzy come up to him with cool ideas (jimmy with the funky stories, and izzy with random songs he made in his head, which are just babbles XD)

- drama/plays: this goes hand in hand with his writing, but i think he just loves to read about shakespeare and just act out on plays!! and he always makes up plays for the little ones all the time!! (and stede is there to help with the drama part ;u;)

- sewing: he found out about sewing from stede. just watching him sew cool clothes, and make the perfect costume for his plays, ooh! so he learned slowly by himself, remembering steps from watching stede. and then he shows off his cool, frilly shirt he made!! even if it looks a bit wonky, it looks just how stede does it!!! (and him and stede bond over that ;u;)

Zheng (2 - 4): makeup, shiny things, paper dolls

- makeup: oooh, zheng just loves makeup! and she definitely keeps a whole bunch from china like certain blush and lipstick that makes her look perfect. and she ONLY shares her makeup to certain people, like Auntie, eddie and (maybe) izzy. but only if they do her hair in return XD

- shiny things: oooh!! she loves all things shiny :0 jewels, silver, even stone!! shes always out and about, trying to look for things to add to hed collection. and if someone (eddie) grabs the shiny thing before her, shes always like 'hey! thats my shiny thing! i found that first!! gimme! >:(' while she has like 7 other shiny things in her hands XDD (she just gives me big ADHD vibes XD)

- paper dolls: maybe it was because when she was a girl, she always had dolls and paper dolls, she always seems to go into a fuzzy state when having a doll in her hand or sight. she always gives them a personal makeover, makeup and all. and they always look so perfect and pretty :> and when someone (eddie) grabs at the dolls, shes just like 'no!! don touch them, meanie! get away from em!! not yours! >:[' and just fighting back and forth until she just gives up and throws a tantrum XDD

and yeah yeah!! just some silly things :) okay!! bye bye!! :000
