SO-CALLED "WHITE WHALE VINYL" -- '80s HARDCORE PUNK VINYL WORTH MORE THAN YOUR LIFE.

PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on original black-and-white and second presd black-and-red center (my personal favorite) labels to the "Linda Blair EP" by Detroit hardcore punk band NEGATIVE APPROACH, released under the Touch & Go label in 1982.

RELEASE OVERVIEW: "Released on the then-fledgling Touch and Go Records, the first pressing of the "Linda Blair EP" was limited to 1,000 copies with black-and-white center labels and came with a printed lyric sheet. A few of the sleeves were hand-colored, and some included a hand-written note from a band member.

Depending on the combination of these elements — and the condition — the asking price for an OG copy can vary wildly. In April 2020, a VG+ copy sold on Discogs for $1,204.82. Less than three months later, a VG+ copy with hand-coloring on the sleeve and the original hand-written note sold for $5,499.99.

Touch and Go pressed another thousand copies in 1982, this time with red-and-white center labels. The second pressing is still pricey — buyers should expect to pay $450 to $650."

PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the "Hassibah Get the Martian Brain Squeeze" 14-song 7" EP by Victoria, British Columbia proto-fastcore/hardcore punk band, NEOS, self-released under the band's own label, Alandhiscar Records in 1982. Only 500 copies of the original Canadian pressing were ever made.

7 INCH OVERVIEW: "Little known but classic hardcore record from the Victoria, British Columbia hardcore punk scene of the early '80s. The NEOS had a stated desire to be the fastest band around, and this release documents their success in this quest. The stream of conciousness raving is on the bands label Alandhiscar Records (shortened to AL records on the sleeve) and was released in 1982. The music is fast, manic, weird, beautiful. The lyric sheets (there are 3 of them) include instructions on how to play guitar, explanation of the Martian Brain Squeeze, diatribes, and even the printed music and drum parts to all of their songs."
