This is just an /opinion/ and I'm just tryna find ppl that agree with me.

I do not think having kids could quote on quote "fix" Shen Jiu, biological or otherwise. 1) A kid should not bear the responsibility to be that emotionally invested in the shit mental health of their caregiver. Don't make any child go through that. And 2) Nothing about any child could make Shen Jiu be a decent caregiver out of his own volition (sure, he was nice to NYY and probably did care for her, but that's about how far it went ejrrjf tho I'll gladly eat up AUs where he does treat her like a daughter when he knows how to care for a kid properly).

Good luck trying to make Shen Jiu get his shit together unless you're actually changing things about his past. The easiest "fix" imo is to give Shen Jiu an ADULT, heavy emphasis on this, an ADULT that could invest in his mental/emotional wellbeing when Shen Jiu is still a kid or a teen. How else do you expect Shen Jiu to be a responsible adult around kids when he's never had a responsible adult to care for him at all?

There's not a single authority figure in Shen Jiu's life that's ever done him good, not QJL, not WY, and SJ's own shizun, the prev. QJPL is up for debate but I have reasons to believe why they ain't shit too. And like hear me out, YQY doesn't count either coz SJ *thinks* YQY is another caregiver that gave up on him and didn't take responsibility for him. And obviously that's not true, but that's just how it is from his perspective sadly.

I still really like Shen Jiu's dark backstory, coz there's no Shen Jiu without it, buuuuuuuut if you really want a version of him that doesn't take that bullshit out on his disciples, do give him an ADULT, coz never a kid, give him and adult first, before you give him any kids, so he can LEARN HOW TO BE AN ADULT.

Ykwim???

Anyways, this is why older SY/ younger SJ is best Shen Bros dynamic don't try to change my mind.

What I Read This Week: 06/08/2025

I am a librarian, and unrelated to stereotypes about my profession, I do read a metric shit-ton in a week. Most of it is fanfiction but hey, I thought maybe it's time I share my reads?

This is what I read this week:

1 WILD CREATURES by NebulusCharlie (448, 981)

Summary: One night while walking home after a late shift at work, Wei Ying discovers a man badly injured. He refuses to go to the hospital, and Wei Ying has no choice but to bring him home...

This was LONG long!

The story was so neat- the worldbuilding really cool.

I will say at times people are a little ooc so if that bothers you it might be a hard read BUT the story is super neat.

We love a vampire au; this one includes an ancient and (very glamorous) immortal vamp Baoshan sanren!

What a journey- delightful indulgent read.

2 Hanguang-Jun and His Beloved Pet Rabbit by 96qutie (In progress fic, read chapter 39 this week)

Summary: A gentle touch stroked his back, and Wei Ying stiffened in surprise. He looked up to find pale-gold eyes staring down at him intensely.

He gulped.

“Are you hurt?” The young cultivator asked in a soft voice, as if he expected an answer— even though he was already prodding Wei Ying’s ears and legs to see for himself. When he didn’t find evidence of injury he seemed to relax. “Are you frightened?”

If Wei Ying were human, he would have blushed and tried to crack a joke to hide it. As a rabbit, he could only kick his feet like a shy toddler.

“Wangji? I heard a commotion. Is everything alright?”

With the swiftness of a child being caught up past their bedtime, Wei Ying was shoved inside a billowing sleeve.

“Mn.”

This is a ‘The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish’ AU for Wangxian. That series captured my heart, so then this happened. For those who don’t know that story; you don’t have to read it to read this. I don’t follow the plot at all, and I even changed the premise a bit. It’s only loosely inspired by it.

Also just to be clear: Wei Ying is not a rabbit 100% of the time.

3 Bamboo Shoot Growing Towards the Sun by 7Strings (50, 015)

Summary: Before Shen Yuan took over the body and name of Shen Qingqiu, the OG Scum Villain had met a Plot Device that Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky had hinted at in the original PIDW story but never explained. Now married, the new Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe unknowingly nurtured the Plot Device with Shen Jiu's soul within, and find him underneath their bed reborn as their biological son.

Keeping him would be no easy task. The baby Scum Villain will naturally grow older, and as he grows, memories of his past and who he was will haunt him. And, in order to even explain the baby's existence and the memories he will inherit, Shen Qingqiu would have to tell his husband just how he displaced the OG from his body.

Meanwhile, Tianlang-jun is enjoying his retirement as "grandpa."

4. He, who is loved by ghosts by WordsofRaven (62, 539)

Summary: A heartbeat. Not a memory of one, but the actual thud of blood pulsing through veins. The sensation was so foreign after an eternity of nothingness that Wei Wuxian nearly panicked. Another beat followed, then another, steady and strong.

His eyelids felt impossibly heavy as he forced them open. Light—soft, golden dawn light—filtered through what appeared to be paper windows.

Confusion washed over him. This wasn't the void. This wasn't death. This was... somewhere.

Wei Wuxian remained perfectly still, cataloging the bizarre sensations assaulting him. The rise and fall of his chest as air moved in and out of lungs he shouldn't possess. The weight of a body that shouldn't exist.

OR, As death encroached upon Wei Wuxian at the hands and jaws of his own creations, Lan Wangji's face was the last vestige of light slipping away from his pained consciousness. The best human to have ever existed had met his gruesome end because of him—Wei Wuxian's gory and irredeemable legacy. Or is it?

Omg this is up there with stories that made me WEEP.

It was sad, it was lonely, it was devastating, but also it was so damn heartwarming in the end

space and time mean absolute shit with these two <3 and I love them for it.

Beautiful, incredible, 10/10

5. If you look too long by CielQuill (41, 581)

Summary: "A strangled scream tore from Shen Qingqiu’s throat as the cliff crumbled beneath Luo Binghe’s feet. His disciple fell in a silent plunge, mouth frozen in a soundless cry, eyes wide with terror. Shen Qingqiu’s feet moved before his mind could follow.

He threw himself over the edge and into the abyss."

Lost in a world made of dreams and nightmares, Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe must work together to find their way back home. However, a run-in with a fearsome creature leaves a wound that will never heal. To survive, Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe will need to learn how to communicate.

But something in the abyss is staring back, waiting to see who will break first.

This was so good! I adored the monsters :P

Another emotional journey of a fic; Shen yuan and Luo Binghe really do go through hell.

We also get sign language!

Stunning, gorgeous, what a solid read.

6. A Gift From The Heart by NebulusCharlie (13, 265)

Summary: Wei Ying learns that Lan Zhan has been the recipient of many marriage proposals and decides to do something about it...

This was so sweet :'3 incredibly cute, much fluff

We love Nie Huaisang for finessing sense into Wei Wuxian

Adorable adorable adorable I can't say it enough!

7. And There Was Only One Bed by Socchan (10,746)

Summary: With the Immortal Alliance Conference fast approaching, Shen Qingqiu realizes that there's no possible way the System will allow him to earn enough points to survive subverting the Endless Abyss plot line. Shen Qingqiu thus changes his approach: What can he do to keep from being the one responsible for Luo Binghe entering the Endless Abyss, and is there any way to make the protagonist's time there less completely horrible?

In response, the System offers something it calls the "Only One Bed" package. Surely this is the better option, right?

It's on the tin; only one bed- but it is 1000% wholesome as hell!

Shen Yuan did not know what was coming for him

The system picked up what Binghe was putting down

8. Heaven Official's Blessing by MXTX Chapter 126-130

That's what I read this week!

I spent the majority of this week reading that GIANT vampire Wangxian fic, but I did manage to throw in a few smaller (for me) fics too. Overall it was a solid reading week!

As usual I will gladly accept any recs you have happily and gratefully- though it may take me some time to get to them; MDZS (wangxian - but also most other pairings) or SVSSS (shen yuan et al pairings - or others tbh I am not picky!)
