since my father's death i have been doing awful with drawing. i can't bring myself to make art. i feel like i lost something. i can't understand it—i still can't.

this is the first piece since my father's death that feels like i'm back in my own skin.

i have been playing assassin's creed lately to pass the time. when i was a teenager, i loved ac very much. altaïr was my favourite as a teen. i think it's the rage and helplessness that we share that made me identify with him. i couldn't afford the games as a kid so i'd spend hours just watching walkthroughs, looking at fanarts, and reading fanfictions. years later and now as an adult, i'm playing ac unity that i got on a whim when it was on sale. i think i'll purchase ac1 when it's on sale later. for now, i will indulge my past self by playing as a french man doomed by the narrative.

My favorite parts of AC Unity are the parts that involve walking around a lot and no combat almost... Like, the investigations and the Nostradamus riddles, both of which I actually solved before without walkthroughs...

Ironically, I still like AC Syndicate more despite having nothing like those (I have the Xbox version of Syndicate, so no ACD missions and walking around is much faster because carriages and rope launcher), just because I like the characters more, but that's 100% personal taste...

Aaaah, I would have given everything for some riddles and investigation in AC Syndicate... If you added that and something like the Assassin Tombs from 2 or the Followers of Romulus hideouts from Brotherhood (instead of that tedious "find the music box" collectaton) it would had been the best game in the series

Château de Versailles “Memories of Versailles”; “High Society”; “Bottom of the Barrel”

HISTORY: 

The Palace of Versailles did not start off as a palace, but rather a hunting lodge that was built by King Louis XIII in 1623. His heir, King Louis XIV, famously known as "The Sun King", expanded the hunting lodge from 1661–1678 and converted it into his seat of power. Versailles became the royal center of governance until King Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette were forced to move to Paris in 1789, during the events of the French Revolution.

IN AC UNITY: 

The Palace of Versailles is where Arno's story begins. 8 year-old Arno visits the Château with his father, Charles Dorian, who is tragically murdered there by the Master Templar, Shay Cormac (Sequence 01, Memory 01: “Memories of Versailles”). It is an event that haunts Arno for the rest of his life, but his tragedies in the Château de Versailles do not end there, when 13 years later, it also becomes the site of the murder of his guardian and father-figure, François de la Serre (Sequence 01, Memory 03: “High Society”).

Arno revisits the Château years later, after being excommunicated from the Assassin Brotherhood, to retrieve his stolen pocket-watch from a gang of raiders (Sequence 11, Memory 1: “Bottom of the Barrel”).

The moment I started reading about basic stuff to understand Odyssey (like the Animus) was also the moment that I was like “Ok, Odyssey’s cool and all, but what exactly does it have to do with AC lore?” Like, from the walkthroughs I’ve seen and the wiki info I’ve read, AC lore is pretty bonkers, but it was a structured bonkers with a certain goal from AC1 to AC3. 

I still have to watch walkthroughs of Liberation, Black Flag, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, and Origins, so I can’t say for sure what I absolutely think of AC lore as both a whole and as individual installments. However, the games I just mentioned feel a bit like spin-offs, I guess? 

Also, I’m still like: “So, uh, Juno sure was a character that existed, huh.”
