When They Were Fans: When Wrestlers Were Fans Part 2

I am back with Part 2 of the article series about our favorite wrestlers as fans. If you haven’t read Part 1 , go check out! Thank you for the love!

WWE NXT Women’s Champion and AJ Lee. Roxanne has stated that AJ was one of her childhood heroes. She also stated that she will not retire from wrestling until she gets to face AJ , who is her dream opponent. AJ Lee refers to Perez and fellow NXT Wrestler , Cora Jade , as her ‘ daughters’.

Former WWE Wrestlers and Current AEW Wrestlers , Cash Wheeler , and Dax Harwood , known as the tag team , FTR with Bret ‘ The Hitman ’ Hart. Hardwood has stated that after watching a ‘ King of The Ring ’ program and seeing Bret wrestle three matches , he was determined to be a wrestler. He even told his mother about it and his dream. Hart even managed them at an Independent show in 2022.

AJ Lee and Lita at a meet and greet. AJ has stated that Lita was the reason why she wanted to be a wrestler. She even wrote a letter to the Hall of Famer and it was featured in WWF Magazine.

Bayley with John Cena , Billy Gunn, The Hardy Boyz, and Rey Mysterio. Bayley credits The Hardy Boyz for inspiring her to wrestle and start training as a teenager. She also said that her family would drive her anywhere in San Francisco just for her to meet her heroes. She said that she met John Cena and Rey Mysterio on the same say. Cena was at a local Optometrist’s office and Mysterio was at a Popeye’s Chicken restaurant.

Sonya Deville and Liv Morgan with Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita. Sonya credits Lita for helping her in her career when she was on Tough Enough as a contestant and Lita was a coach. Liv says that Trish has inspired her to get in the ring and has even paid tribute to her with her gear. Stratus has also said that Liv is her current favorite wrestler.

Johnny Gargano with Shawn Michaels. Johnny has said that he was a big Shawn Michaels fan as a kid , he had The Heartbreak Kid painted on his bedroom wall and dressed as his idol for Halloween. During his NXT run , Gargano said that he was too shy to talk to him at first. Thus , he credits Shawn with helping him with his career.

My Final Thoughts:

As in Part 1 , I am so amazed to see that the wrestlers we love were once like us and still are. I had my own fun experience with Johnny Wrestling. I was at RAW back in 2022 and I kept screaming his name when he and Candice arrived at the arena. He looked at me and told me that he liked my vintage Shawn Michaels shirt. I’ll never forget it!
