The Unspoken Name and The Thousand Eyes may not be my favourite books ever but they’re really good and they make me want to write which is, from where I stand, a serious guarantee of quality

Started reading the Unspoken Name and I was wondering, how tall do y'all think the Oshaar are, are they tall like orcs or closer to humans, I want to guess the former.

March Book Reviews: The Thousand Eyes by AK Larkwood
Tumblr media
Book two of a lean and mean duology. Larkwood rather daringly chooses to do a fifteen-year time skip a third of the way through the book, which is a novel but interesting approach. Tal Charossa in particular is much improved by being forty, grizzled, and cynical. This is also a book haunted by Belthandros Sethennai, who (spoiler alert) just will not die. Horrible man keeps influencing the narrative. However this is fitting, for a book centered around abuse, toxic relationships, and the fundamental question of What If Your Wizard Mentor Was Evil. We also get some interesting changes in the status quo, a deeper exploration of the Ancient Snake Empire, and the introduction of terrible enby orc teenager Tsereg. I’m interested to see what Larkwood is going to write next.

some teasers about the unspoken name sequel, the thousand eyes, from ak larkwood's newsletter:
Two years, six drafts, one global pandemic, and uncounted cartons of oat milk later, THE THOUSAND EYES is COMPLEAT.
Back in 2019 I had a few vague ideas in mind for a sequel to THE UNSPOKEN NAME, and proceeded to throw them all out of the window and do something else. What I’ve ended up with is much weirder and I hope people will enjoy it!
I can now say with certainty that in this book:
- Tal meets a new friend
- Oranna gets what she wants
- Shuthmili makes a deal with god
- Csorwe wears a new outfit
- Belthandros continues to be himself, unfortunately
Also, there are daring escapes, obscure poisons, mysterious artefacts, lost temples, duels to the death, eldritch palaces, a plucky teen Chosen One, and at least two extremely cursed dinner dates.
i, for one, am very excited about cursed dinner dates

The Maze of the multiverse and our friends from who explore them are back in A.K. Larkwood’s The Thousand Eyes in the second book in The Serpent Gates series. According to the author, this sequel was not planned initially, and this will be the end of the adventures with Csorwe, Shuthmili, and Talasseres. Whether that …

Topics include how the novel melds science fiction and fantasy, its laugh-out-loud humor, our love of stories about the multiverse, the casual inclusion of gay and lesbian characters, and an over usage of the phrase "dubious wizard father figure."
