seeing the reactions to this latest chapter I can’t help but to think back to the first post-war arc and remember how little was ever addressed then too.. like dgmw I enjoy all these characters and think horikoshi is insane for trying to juggle so many but in the end he kinda like. Cannot handle it all. maybe he could if he didn’t waste time on silly things.. like I get that he’s trying to uplift the story in the end but it kinda falls incredibly flat with so many anxious questions looming and a rapidly approaching finish line…

Chie Hori, for unhinged character bingo?

All hail one of maybe 3 untraumatized characters in Tokyo Ghoul with any significant role to the story.

Recently I've been rereading MHA and in chapter 254, Aizawa says :"being self sacrificial isn't the same as being suicidal . So many kids confuse the two so I give them what they want. A "Death" so to speak" . I think this is what Hori's doing with Bakugou. Giving him a death.

Like metaphorically or literally?

I don't really think that's what's happening here either way. Aizawa "gives a death" to his students who lose track of the difference between self-sacrifice and suicide. I don't think Katsuki was out here looking to be a martyr or throwing any Hail Mary shots, and Monoma's reaction to his "death" is the tell. Katsuki doesn't just go in without a plan, and all his actions should further his goal of a "perfect win." We saw all his muttering and scheming before he stood up. It's pretty clear something's going on we don't know about.

Best Jeanist should be in on knowing the Second's quirk and the ultimate plan to fight the villains, but we can't know for sure how much Aizawa knows based on the lead-up to this fight. All Might did say they were only planning to tell a select few everything, and Katsuki was implied to be one of the select few.

Plus, I would never believe this is a permanent death for a major character because of the way the story is treating it. You don't do deaths like this--with cliffhangers and uncertainty and minor character reactions. Deaths of major characters have to impact the audience, and they have to hit HARD. There has to be time spent lingering on the death and major character reactions. Look at how permanent character death scenes play out in other series like Fullmetal Alchemist or Final Fantasy. I think you'll notice this one...looks nothing like those.

It looks a lot more like character growth to me.

On Eri healing Dabi's scars. There's another reason I don't think it would happen and that's because it would tire her out doing it and it would then mean that she wouldn't be able to use her power for someone who really needed, like if someone was dying. Eri's horn shrank and she couldn't use her power for a while after she used her quirk on Mirio, that was just rewinding back to 6 months, this is ten years we're talking about. Plus Hori doesn't really heal scars anyway.

That would be a whole other issue to dive into that I don’t think will happen. There isn’t really a logical explanation for how Eri’s rewind works either, if you really think about it. Like even just erasing quirks with those bullets doesn’t really make sense. So people speculating the scars will go away with rewind doesn’t mean he’ll be rewound 10 years.

BUT I still don’t think that’ll happen anyway, I think he’ll lose his quirk altogether-at least I fucking hope so.

On Eri using it for someone who needs it—I mean it doesn’t matter who she uses it on. It doesn’t matter, it should be her choice who to use it on to save. If she wanted to use it on Dabi because she sympathized (being carved up over and over by her abuser WOULD have left….so many scars) then she could. But again—I don’t think that’s gonna happen anyway.

I do think it’s entirely possible she’ll use it on Shigaraki to get him back to pre-surgery. And I don’t think this will be a choice made after careful deliberation if it’s what happens. I think it’ll be at a point where Shigaraki just defeated AFO and his physical body is on the brink of death. Idk exactly how it’ll go but if it does come down to Eri saving Shigaraki via rewind—the way I picture it going down is her deciding on her own to use it on Shigaraki because she sees how desperate Midoriya is to save him (except this would probably be more emotional and him freaking out not knowing what to do since Shigaraki is about to die)—which should definitely trigger some memories in her when he was stopping at nothing to save her. It would be her choice to do this too.

Again—that’s incredibly specific and idk it would happen that way or that Eri will be used at all. But her quirk seems too convenient to the plot to not be used in a Hail Mary attempt at saving somebody “shocking” (a villain) at the very last second. But I am still not convinced it will go one way or another. I’m just keeping my mind open to possibilities until we get closer to that time.

But no nobody I personally have seen talk about this theory has speculated about rewinding Dabi or Shigaraki back 10 whole years. That’s not gonna happen.

Garden Report 22.05.14

Keeping this short (ha!) instead of going back through my garden journal to give you an update on everything since I have been gone.

The weather is decidedly cool, at times cold (snow/hail) and very wet. The established plants like trees, vines, shrubs/bushes have responded with excessive and vigorous growth! Yes, I did fertilize/amend the soil with alfalfa pellets, urine laden / chicken droppings meadow grass mulch, kelp, glacier rock dust, worm castings from an elder and my worms compost but I think it is the constant rain-forest effect that is boosting their growing. But it also increases the slugs and rolypoly/wood lice/ sow bugs that are also very hungry! I keep putting out a few starts at a time and they are just mowed down!

The potatoes are doing excellent in top growth considering all the bad weather. I am hoping for a new potato crop end of June? Most of my starts have had to be potted up at least one step -- its just too wet and to pesty to plant out. Some are lingering outside in smaller containers because I can’t pot up and hold in the space I have -- not enough room. O! To have the summer house done!

Was gifted some lovely morels. The first batch are in the dehydrator. The second batch went to the straw bed in Africa because they came in late last night and by morning were maggot riddled. A hand full of muddy straw on each spent morel -- maybe some day there will be some morels in that patch! Been foraging for sorrel and dandelion greens in the garden. I say foraging because these never stay where I plant them -- they move to where they feel more comfortable. The weeds have also gotten out of control. When I get a little stronger, I plan on putting on knee pads and just crawl along chopping and dropping with my trusty hori hori as I crawl along.

I have been trying to gather flowers to dry for tea. I have a nice batch of lilac (two jars!). I would like more but with the rain -- it is highly unlikely. But I did get some calendula, pinks, viola, rose petals/flowers done. One jar of straight calendula petals was a nice addition to the pantry.

The hens are lovely ... lovely brats! They have decided its just too much effort to go dig for worms. They will march right into the house, into the kitchen where I am and demand their chips (meal worms). What cheeky little brats! And if they don’t find me in the kitchen, they stand in the mud room and cry as loudly as possible until I show up.

I will try to post some pictures later. I’m not back in full force. I hope everyone out there gardening is enjoying the time spent tending their little piece of eden.

Personality: The youngest member of the mansion, Ana is an introvert by nature and can come off as being shy and closed off to those unfamiliar with her. She can have a sharp tongue as well, murmuring pointed insults under her breath with a perfectly straight face; of course, in a house full of vampires, her comments do not go unheard. She is surprisingly insecure about her lack of memory, which troubles her immensely, especially since she cannot remember anything in her past, only vague impressions and fleeting sensations that leave her with a sense of unease, and also, a lingering sadness that haunts her.

Surprisingly, she has a sharp streak of mischief and is prone to causing havoc in the mansion when the mood strikes her; most of the time her pranks are pinned on someone else, much to her delight at having managed to evade punishment. Anastasia Romanov hails from Russia and is the youngest daughter of the Romanov family, a family of pureblooded vampires who once ruled over humans. When the humans rose up against them in rebellion, the family was forced to flee from their castle. In the chaos and confusion, Anastasia was separated from her family and was supposedly shot and bayonetted to her death by the angry mob. However, she would awaken once again, only to find herself staring up into Comte’s golden eyes, and herself void of all her memories. Comte would later bring her to his mansion, where she would spend her days in the company of other famous men in history. However, she still cannot remember any of her past and believes that she was turned by Comte into a lesser vampire, and Comte has not corrected her.

Comte de Saint-Germain: Comte was the one who found and saved her; Ana was reportedly found by him, bloodied and dazed and refusing to speak for days. As Ana puts it, “The only face I can remember from my past is his.” The normally impassive Ana adores him, visibly brightening up in his presence, and their relationship is similar to one of father and daughter. Comte is equally guilty of spoiling her, bringing her along on his trips and taking her for outings whenever he is free. He has also kept her largely sheltered from her past.

Leonardo Da Vinci: She feels a certain kinship and connectedness to him; this is due in part to both their statuses as pureblooded-vampires. If not found with Comte, Ana can most likely be found with him. Ana likes him almost as much as she loves Comte, and is even willing to climb trees to pluck apples for him to eat.

She hates doing schoolwork and has climbed trees to avoid her tutor, Isaac. Ana has also reportedly tried to bribe him with apples and Comte’s money so that he’ll raise her grades or let her off the hook for the day. 

In terms of speed, she’s the fastest vampire at the mansion.

She can do her own chores and tries to help Sebastian with his work.

Ana has tried making clothes for Vic and King, and has the two dogs model her clothing when she feels bored.

She sometimes calls Vic “Jimmy” by accident, but has no idea why.

Lately, she’s been having trouble sleeping as bad dreams keep her awake. 

Like Comte, she can also be protective of the residents in the mansion.

(1) Remember when All For One chose not to take Best Jeanist’s quirk even though it was powerful because it would take years to master it? Does that mean Monoma has to go through a learning curve with some of the quirks he copies? Like, has he ever tried to control all his dismembered body parts using Setsuna’s quirk?

(2) Technique-wise, Monoma has to start at square 1 with every quirk he copies and his time limit is only 5 minutes, meaning he has to make physical contact with the same person 12 times just for an hour of training a single quirk. In order to get someone to do that for him while asking for pointers, Monoma needs to have exceptional social skills.

(3) I headcanon Monoma experiences the side effects of the quirks he copies, meaning he knows what other people go through when they use their quirks (esp if he did everyone else’s training regimens during the summer camp). This has got to make him incredibly empathetic. Maybe he discreetly accommodates his classmates.

(4) Like, I headcanon TetsuTetsu suffers iron-deficiency anemia as a result of his steel armor, and after experiencing it himself, Monoma shares iron-rich snacks with him during breaks. I feel like Monoma’s training and team-building would be more interesting than Midoriya’s, so I wish Hori would stop reducing him into a buttmonkey.

(5) It’d be fascinating to see Monoma copy quirks outside of his class and school. Can you imagine him combining Kaminari’s electricity, Yoarashi’s whirlwind, and Todoroki’s ice & fire quirks? He could be like Storm, shooting lightning, raising fierce gusts, and raining hail down from the skies!—BSD Chat Anon (until I make an account)

1) I do believe it would take Monoma some time before he could master a quirk but since he’s incredibly observant for simpler quirk he wouldn’t have a problem (ie. Kirishima and Bakugou’s quirk during the sports fest). But you do raise an interesting point about more complicated quirks : how hard would it be for him to master them? 

Especially a quirk like Setsuna’s which I imagine must be incredibly difficult to use (being able to keep track of every separate body part and control them at the same time). 

2) Well luckily for him Monoma can probably rely on his classmates to guide him through how to use their quirks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he already knew how to use all of his classmates’ quirks by this point. 

I don’t think he has to start at 0 every time, I believe a lot of quirks are similar on a technical level so if he could master a varied pool of different quirks then there’s a good chance that when he encounters a new quirk he’ll already have a baseline idea of how to use it. 

I don’t think people, meaning the fandom, give Monoma enough credit: if you take into account the fact that people take years to master their quirks (thus the existence of hero schools to “help” students master their quirks to be capable “heroes”) then it’s really impressive that Monoma can copy a quirk and be able to use it effective immediate.

I don’t doubt that Monoma is empathetic, his quirk makes him rely on teamwork, he’ll do anything to ensure the success of his team. I think that’s what really stood out to me when he was introduced cuz unlike all the other students that want to stand out on their own in order to be popular, he chose to prioritize his classmates and share the spotlight and that will always make him more interesting to me than half of the students in UA.

Garden Report 21.04.28

Even though I thought I had laid a plan of action the night before, I was taken aback by Too Much (tm). Everywhere I went, I need to do this before I can do that and this that before that thingie and it just spun out/ progressed until I was Just Overwhelmed (tm) by it all and sat down to get the samovar smoking -- several high caffeine cups should fill any void with jitters and jumps.

Glorious sun yesterday made me eager to get with it. It was a little too chilly for my inner lizard self (I have sub par body temp due to lymes and thyroid issues) but I thought I would lay eyes on the battlefield. The enemy arrived before I: Large slimy piles of camellia blossoms the size of saucers; broken branches from the wind storms that had finally broken free but caught on lower branches/sagging now onto sensitive plants; powdery mildew; white fly (where the bleep did they come from?!); aphids on every rosebud (we are going to have a powerhouse of colour in a week or two if I can get those bloodsuckers under control); the dog had jumped the sepration fence to back garden and land mined the area; and someone dumped over a lot of cuttings that had rooted and needed planting out; the newest neighbors have dog choking (theirs), rock throwing shrill voiced/screaming children that put the ones with the foul mouths on the other side to shame and 10x louder ... the list goes on. My sensory over load was not helped by extra strong Russian tea. I don’t know how many Hail Marys and Our Fathers I did while keeping it close. But everyone survived w/o a peep and that's a Good Thing (tm).

Started moving more pots from hedgerows. Found a struggling lily. Will try to get him into the old strawberry pot Mary gave me (her lawn care person clipped/chipped it and now was ‘no good’). Potted the up 2-steps pots for toms (soil only because the bagged soil is saturated) so that could drain and warm. Rearrange the lean-to as the slugs have been feasting on the veg starts... again. The kids had my hori-hori but now MIA -- I need it because the buttercups took a run and some are also knee high and that is the perfect tool for the job. Still searching for my tree stakes. I think they made it to the carriage house this past Autumn and then kids threw stuff on them. The upside is that I am now, more than ever, determined to get back to being organized even if it hurts. I may even rent a skip/ dumpster. The last years I’ve gotten lax because I haven’t been well but now I see that this is necessary if I am to keep my sanity. It might even help with my depression. There might be tears in the near future over this decision.

I was glad to see a variety of pollinators out and about. Even a couple of lady birds. The plum has tiny fruits as do the blueberries, gooseberries and alpine strawberries. The black currants are starting to bloom and I still have them heeled in! All the apples are in bloom and they look magnificent. The ground is still pretty soggy but I know given a few more days of this fireball in the sky and it will dry out in a hurry.

Trying to source a plastic spigot for the new worm bin I’m creating. Darker walls. Bigger bins (just a tad in all directions but only because wanted darker walls, not transparent). Only came away with two more privacy panels but that is two more towards completing the job. Need to re-invite people to help with the summer house. Many have left the area. The kids and I may just be on our own again on this but that’s ok! We work well together and we tend to anticipate what the other needs as a team. I do so want this project done ... how many years has it been lagging? Too many!
