1967 AMT Piranha
The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. (Stefanie Powers). Her car is a 1967 AMT Piranha customized by Gene Winfield. The character is April Dancer, an agent of the secret international counter espionage and law and enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E., an American agent with a British partner in Mark Slate. She was often armed with gimmicks and gadgets, like the campier side of James Bond. Her spy adventures often utilized her multi-lingual capabilities, accents, and dancing skills.

Rare Gene Winfield–Built Corvair-Powered AMT Piranha Goes Up for Sale - Daniel Strohl @Hemmings
Rare Gene Winfield–Built Corvair-Powered AMT Piranha Goes Up for Sale – Daniel Strohl @Hemmings
If it weren’t for automotive fabricator Gene Winfield, the Marbon-Centaur CRV might have remained a footnote in automotive history, warranting a random article every five years or so before everybody forgets it again. But Winfield—known for designing vehicles in Blade Runner and Robocop—renamed it the Piranha for model car company AMT and put one on tabletops across America in the late 1960s at…

my controversial splatoon stage opinions: i agree with the general (competitive) consensus that the splatoon 1 stages are better than 2's, because of the better/actually useful and unique stage gimmicks and less centering on mid and having other avenues and sections, but also i think splatoon 2's stages have WAY better vibes, and it feels like nobody talks about this... let me explain.
walleye, saltspray, port mackerel, hammerhead, bluefin depot, piranha pit, and ARGUABLY kelp dome... what do they have in common? theyre industrial stages. lots of steel bars and grating and brown/grey colors. very... boring environments in my opinion. they make up 7/16 of splat1's stages. if i had to guess why there's so many, it would be to re-use assets. meanwhile in splat2, port, kelp, walleye and piranha return, along with 2 new industrial stages, sturgeon shipyard and snapper canal, making up 6/23. almost the same amount, but much less compared to the overall amt of stages, and imo kelp dome and snapper canal have completely different vibes based on their settings. the other 4, i would confuse all the time when i first started playing, bc they looked so similar. but snapper canal is much more brighter, sandier, has wood boxes and skateboards and a train bridge above it, it feels fresher. a lot of the splat2 stages have more interesting settings i think, regardless of the actual map layout. this is also why i dont agree when people say they should bring back mahi-mahi resort in splat3, simply because... i think it looks boring. the textures and models just look bland to me. i much prefer the splat2 equivalent new albacore hotel (besides e-liter bias) because it actually seems to have a cohesive theme to me.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. car called the CRV/Piranha. Originally conceived of by  Marbon Chemical, to promote their product  “Cycolac” which to what I gather was an ABS composite. Designed by some guy named  Dann Deaver, there was hope that someone would produce and market the car after Marbon built four prototypes of various configurations. AMT (Aluminum Model Toys (yeah I had no idea either)) enters the picture with plans to build 50 a year. The cost of building a hand built car, and procuring Corvair chassis, which underpinned the design, proved to costly. So only four road worthy cars were completed. The AMT cars featured a revised rear sail panel, and rear end (the one with the full width taillight arrangement, that would ultimately become the Man From U.N.C.L.E. car. AMT was in the business of building specific television and movie vehicles, most noted for building the Star Trek shuttles. They also conveniently built model kits, which is how I know the brand. Guess what Piranha model kits were produced, and they were reissued at least once, the reissues make no reference to Man From U.N.C.L.E., for licensing reasons.

1965 SCCA Races - Piranha Kit Car by Louis Galanos Via Flickr: The sixties was an era of innovation when it came to kit cars and one of the most innovative was the AMT Piranha. Made by a company that specialized in ABS plastic a number of prototype sports cars were made for promotional purposes. One of the prototypes, the CRV-II in the photo, was raced in Sports Car Club of America events in 1965 and won the D-Modified championship that year. The car was powered by a turbocharged Corvair engine and weighed roughly 1400 lbs. As many as 12 full bodies were made and some were trimmed for road use. Each was different depending on use. Motor Trend Magazine featured a gullwing coupe in their July 1967 Issue.
