do you have a list of favorite books or something like that? would love to get a few recs, supernatural/spiritual or just in general. hope this doesn’t bother you :)

I love answering questions like this, not bothering me at all. I'm not sure if you're looking for non-fiction occult books or fiction books that have to do with supernatural/spiritual things, but these are some things I enjoyed reading recently:

FICTION

the murders of molly southbourne by tade thompson supernatural/horror novella about a girl who sprouts murderous clones whenever she bleeds. very good execution of a concept.

the darkness outside us by eliot schrefer cosmic horror novel about two boys who are sent on a space mission to answer a distress signal. I cried no less than ten times while reading this. one of those once in a lifetime reads.

the family fortuna by lindsay eager supernatural novel about a monster girl born to a circus family who wants to reclaim her narrative. family tragedy done very well with one of the best approaches to monster girls (let them be monsters)

NON-FICTION

existential kink: unmask your shadow and embrace your power by carolyn elliott using masochism as a form of emotional and physical healing. really interesting approach to shadow work/approaching your "negative" qualities that affected my thinking in ways I still use.

I'm looking through you: growing up haunted by jennifer finne boylan one of the most interesting memoirs I've read. it's about a trans woman who grows up in a haunted house. if you want a good supernatural/spiritual read that is also a very touching memoir, would recommend.

the immortal life of henrietta lacks by rebecca skloot this isn't supernatural but the impact of this woman's life on modern medicine makes it feel like it. one of the most interesting (and important) reads on the way that black bodies have been erased from history despite their immense impact.

Jasper and William both sit at the table. Jasper leans forward, outward of the booth. She rests her arms on the table.

"So? How do I get outta here?"

"Before that, I must tell you why you're here, alright-?"

"Fine." Jasper opens up the water bottle she got. "Let the yap session begin."

William inhales. "SO, me and one other person are currently gods. One died. Me, Jayden, and, uh... Joseph? Yeah, Joseph. Joseph ended up dying... Because of Jayden.

Jayden is... Not... That right in the head. Jayden then insisted that we should get a NEW Joseph, find a replacement, y'know? Jayden wanted to bring someone from the REAL WORLD though, and that is not good. But, she said she'll bring in someone that wasn't a good person in the real world, and that's where YOU come in."

Jasper slowly nods, slightly concerned.

"YOU decided to get crazy drunk after an argument with your husband. You drunk drove. Jayden then used his power to bring you here, so... yeah."

Jasper then thought for a second, seeming a bit freaked out because this is all her fault, but then gains a bit of composure before speaking.

"Okay, but... Do I look like I give a fuck? I don't care. How do I get OUT-!?" Jasper says a tad loudly.

That caught William a bit off guard. William cleared his throat.

"Ah, the catch is, you can't. Sorry. That fur, by the way, Jayden also did that to make you look like Joseph. Jayden was good friends with Joseph, till the whole murderous rampage thing."

"Oh my god. I am going to beat the everloving shit out of that Jayden guy. Oooohhhh my goddddddddddd"

"You can try. Doubt it'll work. Jayden barely visits anymore. Sorry to break the news to ya."

Jasper lets out a loooooooooong sigh. She's still determined though.

1) Is John misunderstood or a villain?

I think that he loves his sons very genuinely, he's just doesn't really know how to raise children and instead of taking accountability for that he committed atrocities so severe and lasting that it brought about the end of the world multiple times.

3) Are Sam and Dean good people?

I think that they are good people by their own standards in the sense that they value the lives of other people more than them and are willing to do what they see as the "right" thing regardless of how it affects them and theirs. I think when it comes to their interpersonal relationships however, they are genuinely wicked and because they are all but immune to death they are never really held accountable to that wickedness but it does make them worse and worse.

12) Favorite season of Sam?

season four blood freak sam my beloved (however, season one is the death of youth for both him and dean which I also enjoy)

16) Was Lebanon a good episode?

as an early seasons purist I don't know this man but based on my experience with the later seasons I imagine it’s pretty terrible

Hc: Sam hates that it’s Cas’s handprint. It should be his. He hates the Mark for the same reason. Wincest or not. With the amulet gone, anything marking Dean as anything but his brother just drives him crazy and reminds him that he’s not enough for Dean—not enough to be worn proudly.

debated asking this (and feel free to delete) but I'm curious as to why you smoke cigarettes because you do seem like the kind of person who would have a reason. not sure if that makes sense or not but you seem to put a lot of thought into things and yeah? if it helps at all I'm asking because while I don't smoke, sometimes I want to but I end up convincing myself out of it so I'm curious what it could give to other people aside from health issues /gen (I'm not going to base my smoking choices off of this so don't worry)

you know you are not the first person on here specifically to say that I seem like the kind of person who puts a lot of thought into things. the answer is not at all about thought. when I was eight I knew two definitive things about myself: one, I wanted to get a lot of body modifications, and two, I wanted to smoke because I liked the smell and the way it looked leaving people's lips. contextually, I was born in a fundamentalist family who homeschooled.

I smoke them because it's nice to smoke them. breathing smoke out of your lungs is satisfying, it feels comforting. I like the smell. it's something to do in the most neutral of ways. there's a smoking comradery, you give strangers your cigarettes and they give them to you. you take cigarette breaks when you need to be alone or you need to take a breather. it makes you feel like you're calm even when you're not. the nicotine feels nice and gives you the buzz without the high. you want to smoke a cigarette if the day is nice or if the day is shit. it makes the day less shitty or a little better depending.

I think there are people who like substances and people who don't and if you don't want your mind or body tampered with then it can be hard to understand why someone would. It's also hard for me to understand why people don't just try things if they're curious but everyone puts their bodies through different risks. I don't like rock climbing because I don't see the appeal in risking such a horrible death, I have a lot of rock climber friends who don't get why I fuck up my lungs with smoking.

I think that it's interesting that you want to try but you don't because of the health concerns. one won't kill you, but it might give you insight into the experience. (but then, you're not asking me if you should)

why do you feel that way about smile? (haven’t seen it- good movie? scary movie? etc?)

the poster is just creepy in a way that I find unpleasant to look at lol as for its merit as an actual movie it's very scary! my sister and I at least found it scary watching it together at four in the morning, but it's also very cruel in such a simple and almost immature way that the ending of it really crumples the movie in on itself like a coke can

it's one of those movies whose message is "you can't escape/win against trauma and there is no hope" but in the way a fourteen-year-old boy draws dead bodies with scribble blood. like okay. you clearly have big feelings but misunderstand the tenacity of human life
