What got you into the Diablo Universe?

I see the angels are a massive inspiration for you.

What do you like about them?

You can blame ALL of this on my dad.

I had seen depictions of angels before - grew up in a sorta christian and very art-interested family - but thought they were very boring winged humans. I really can't stand supernatural entities that look human. It's so boring to me (yes I'm still salty about human Tyrael, despite what an epic moment it was. But I digress) Enter an armored, faceless entity with flowy noodle wings. I'd never seen anything like it, and thought it was kinda the coolest. Thought Tyrael was the coolest.

Ya gotta understand he was the only one. There was nothing else like him. I mean, Hadriel was there but he was barely a character.

Being 6 and therefore Bad At Games meant I couldn't really play so much as sit there and watch the cinematics, and the story that went along with it. Eventually I got older, and Better At Games, and also purchased my own copy of LoD.

There are very few games I've ever been Good at. I'm bad with controllers. I die a lot. Except in D2. For whatever reason, the mouse-and-keyboard combo work for me.

Then D3 comes along, years later. And like. Say what you will about the game, I'm of the opinion that anything with the title 'Diablo 3' was doomed to be hated by its fanbase. It would be too similar to D2, or too different. Either way, it was screwed. And man, it had a rocky start.

I've played that game for years tho, and had fun majority of the time.

The cinematics though. Tyrael ripping off his wings for humanity was a bit of a transcendent experience for depressed-anxious-self-hating-teenage me. Imperius getting bashed through a wall in HD was incredible. I mean, you've seen the D2 cinematics, they're good for 2000, but by 2012 they were looking aged. I love that they don't have faces. I love that their wings are strands of burning light.

Plus there's the books. Inarius is a bitch and I like him so much. We all have our comfort characters, and he was mine for years and years. He's become a bit of a...bittersweet character for me? I still like him and his character, but he's associated with some shit. I like how flawed the angels are. I like that they are morally grey, and don't necessarily give a damn about the humans. It's interesting. They are as much an obstacle as the demons, except you can't just stab them cuz all of their friends will burn down your house.

I also like that they're pretty suits of armor with pretty shiny wings and fancy swords. Armor is cool y'all.
