tbh you are so right matthew definitely feels like a cat person. i love him with dogs too! but dude in canon walks around with a polar bear like its a stuffed animal, he so badly wants something to cuddle and keep him company. and cats are like stuffed toys come to life just with sharper teeth and claws and more inclination to use them. he would adore a weirdly chill lap cat that he can carry around and snuggle. he always needs an emotional support Soft Fluffy Thing.

OOOOH YES THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE

kuma is so like a cat anyways, moody and antisocial except when HE wants cuddles, and sometimes matt only sees him when it’s mealtime tbh. and a dog wouldn’t like to be carrie’s around like that forever, they’d get way too fritzy. awwgh….matt holding kuma up and out in the air by under his fuzzy arms and says “biiiiiiiiig stretches!!!!! 🥰” and kuma just glares

also….matt is really like a cat himself. he gets small bursts of energy and is always cuddly and ready for a nap. catches random animals when he’s let outside. loves so deeply and is so loyal but needs his space! mmm. much to consider here
