On April 30th, 2023, @lizadomuch and I continued the West Virginia waterfall trail by visiting the Falls of Hills Creek and taking the Highland Scenic Highway to the Cranberry Glades.

As we followed Route 150, the Highland Scenic Highway, we found the display of honeycomb rocks.

This formation occurs when minerals and water filled crevices as hematite between sandstone slabs formed as kaolinite. As the sandstone eroded away, this natural hematite cement remained as little cells. The kaolinite broke down while the hematite remained.

We also saw a wide forest carpet peppered with inflorescences of trilliums and several boardwalks to overlooks. We enjoyed the foggy views as we finished our adventure.

Southern Iceland

On July 2nd, 2023, @lizadomuch and I went berry picking with our nieces at my grandmother’s house.

We found a box turtle in the road and we took him back to grandma’s to show my sister. After that, my nieces and I returned him a cool spot across the road. I told my nieces cool box turtle facts like how they can live to be 100 and they basically have a natural compass and can always find their way home.

They were reluctant to let him go, but I explained to them that the turtle would not have fun in captivity.

When we got back, we found Wilson the brindle farm mutt basking in the sunshine.
