For the record, being Very Whimsical™️ in higher academia is a wild time. Can't tell what anyone thinks of me. Argued that Coca-Cola cans are beautiful this morning and that Barbie movies are a good introduction to the transcendentals. Then we went to class and read Augustine. What is my life?

The last year, I’ve been held hostage by this last data chapter of my dissertation. I felt like it had weak methods, and the analysis was the most complex statistics that I had to teach myself how to run and interpret.

But no longer! Tomorrow I send off my draft to my advisor for edits, and begin working on the introductory and conclusion chapters of the project as a whole.

Okay guys I have a 5-7 page book review to write and submit in 48 hours and I haven’t finished the book completely and I have only a vague idea of my own opinions on it—namely, that it’s fine. There’s little I can discuss with “fine”. Prayers appreciated!

I'm not afraid of grad school bc it's hard. I'll be fine. I already have a grad degree, I'm really good at school. But like. I'm doing this with the hope getting a better paying job after graduation and there's no guarantee. A family member of mine got her doctorate with the same hope and never worked more than part time. I'm just doing this on the hope that I will be one of the lucky ones.

Because of a random like on an old post of mine, i ended up looking back through my tumblr from my last semester of grad school, and few things are as comforting as knowing i will likely never be THAT stressed again in my life. It's all about points of comparison!

Astronomically inconvenienced to remember that, while I am insanely extroverted, I get very easily drained from new enviornments/friendships/situations, so each time I find myself with down time and go back to my room and think "what should I do?" the answer is "nap" even if I'm not physically tired.

And with that, ya boy has finished (and passed!) statistics! The first math class I’ve taken in nine years!!

I’m sure I’ll use all this info at some point for research, but right now all I’ve used it for outside of class is nodding along when Hank Green talks about how certain maps lied to us. Oh and I can do fun stuff in SPSS I guess?

I think today’s the day that I finish not one but TWO journal articles and shoot them off to my committee for final edits (if they want to give them). Then it’s actually submitting and I can change the “in prep” to “in review” on my CV!

Happy Friday everyone!

I am completely dead. I had to start lab work at 6:45am today and I will be running my analysis until probably around 8pm or 9pm, so I'm basically surviving on coffee at this point. Buuuuut fortunately it is giving me plenty of time to work on my upgrade report, for which I have written about a quarter of the introduction so far. Considering I started writing it yesterday and already know exactly where I want to go with it, I think that's pretty good. I'm hoping I can have something resembling a first draft by the end of next week, and then with a bit of luck one of the post docs in my group will agree to read through it.

Other than that nothing much has happened. I've been quite busy but I've done almost everything I wanted to do this week, which I'm super happy about. I'm still not feeling 100%, but at least I am feeling more consistently motivated. I had a meeting with both my supervisors today for the first time in a while and it was also good to be able to discuss what I've been working on and plan with them what I will be doing in the next few months. I think it allowed me a moment to consider everything I've done in the last year and kind of centre myself again. After feeling like I've been spinning out of control for so long, that's also a big relief. Overall, I'm doing a lot better mentally than I have been in the last few weeks, and I'm looking forward to the weeks of hard work that are coming my way.

My boyfriend will be out of the apartment this weekend, and while it would do me some good to rest on Saturday I'm really tempted to take myself out on a solo date. I've been meaning to go to a modern art museum, and considering I have to run some errands anyway maybe I could kill two birds with one stone. We will see what happens, but it kind of all boils down to my energy levels at the end of the day. Plus, I'm starting to play dungeons and dragons with my friends again on Sunday, so I have to consider that this won't be a rest day either! Still, I'm looking forward to a hopefully relaxing time.
