Naturalistic Patterns of Lichen and Moss - Poronjäkälä Cushion Cover Design by Aino-Maija Metsola for Finnish Marimekko
Naturalistic Patterns of Lichen and Moss – Poronjäkälä Cushion Cover Design by Aino-Maija Metsola for Finnish Marimekko
The Marimekko Poronjäkälä cushion cover features a pattern of watercolour lichen and moss. The beautifully detailed, naturalistic pattern, designed by Aino-Maija Metsola, was inspired by the moss gardens of Japanese temples. Measuring 50 x 50 cm, the cushion cover is made of a fine blend of cotton and linen and has a concealed zipper on one side.

FLUSH - Virginia Woolf
'The figure of their dog made me laugh so I couldn't resist making him a Life.'
We commissioned Aino-Maija Metsola to illustrate Virginia Woolf’s endearing, witty and insightful 'biography' of the cocker spaniel Flush, loyal companion to nineteenth century poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
Flush combines sensuous imaginative description, with sharp social comment, and brings Woolf’s unsentimental humour and insight to the fore. We see Flush as loyal confidant to Elizabeth on her sickbed at Wimpole Street, and from his jealous perspective we witness her courtship by Browning, their elopement and new life in Italy.
This edition of Flush, joins the previous six Woolf re-issues, illustrated by Helsinki-based Aino-Maija Metsola.

Sähkökitarakvartetti II out now. Compositions by Marja Ahti, Clara de Asís and Lauri Hyvärinen.
Sähkökitarakvartetti’s II continues the quadrilogy chronicling their multifaceted approach into contemporary electric guitar music. II features compositions by three young composers who have developed their unique sound as musicians and composers in the field of experimental and improvised music. Marja Ahti’s “The Threshold” is built around unusual guitar tunings and the EBow, an electronic device which produces sustained timbres reminiscent of a bowed violin. “Everyday less, less everyday” is a meditative composition by Clara de Asís. Slowly moving soundscapes of tones interfere with each other creating harmonic beatings. Sähkökitarakvartetti member Lauri Hyvärinen’s composition “Tropes”, also makes use of unusual guitar tunings. Whereas the other two compositions on the album are calm and slowly moving, “Tropes'' showcases almost violent uses of the guitar with distorted and screaming sounds finally resolving to sparse fields of harmonics.
Sähkökitarakvartetti: Juhani Grönroos, Lauri Hyvärinen, Jukka Kääriäinen & Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson.
Recorded, mixed & mastered by Teemu Korpipää at Ambience Studios.
