Manchester United squad vs Bristol City revealed

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba have travelled with the Manchester United squad to Bristol City for their Carabao Cup quarter-final tonight.

The 28-year-old has been dropped from eight of the last nine squads but Mkhitaryan is in contention to end his exile after United manager Jose Mourinho included the Armenian in the travelling squad.

Mourinho is believed to be open to selling Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window after he accused him of 'disappearing' in matches last month. However, Mourinho revealed at the weekend Mkhitaryan had a chance of returning to the matchday 18 at Ashton Gate.

When he was asked if Mkhitaryan could return against Bristol, Mourinho replied: "He can. I am making a few changes for the match, not many because Bristol is one of the best team in the Championship and for me now the Championship is not the Championship of five or 10 years ago.

"The Championship is now high quality teams with lots of players that could be playing in the Premier League easily. So we need to take the game really seriously. But I am going to make a few changes. And it's possible Micki is involved.

"At the moment we are playing Mata, Rashford, Lingard or Martial, Lukaku so on the bench being Ibra and one of the other ones, Martial or Rashford and there is no space for everyone because you need balance on the bench too."

Mkhitaryan has not started for United since the defeat at Chelsea on November 5. The playmaker was widely criticised for his performance and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested United played 'with 10 men' due to Mkhitaryan's anonymity.

Pogba is available again after serving a three-match ban for his sending off in the win over Arsenal on December 2.

Axel Tuanzebe could make his second United start of the campaign tonight. The 20-year-old has only made one start all season - in the previous round at Swansea - and came on in the Champions League win over CSKA Moscow earlier this month.

Mourinho has rested David de Gea, Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones for the trip. Antonio Valencia was unlikely to play before he suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's win at West Brom and was not with the squad at Manchester Airport on Wednesday morning.

"This is what I call a December injury," Mourinho said. "It is an injury of accumulation of fatigue. It is a muscular one. Hatring. Big, small, medium, I don't know. Let's wait. I think he is an experienced guy to not let it go to difficult limits.

"But it is an injury of fatigue. Everyone in the Premier League especially the ones in more accumulation of cups, European cups, they are at risk."

De Gea, Valencia, Young, Jones and Matic have not started in any of United's previous League Cup ties this term. Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini and club captain Michael Carrick are all still sidelined through injury.

Kieran O'Hara has travelled in De Gea's absence, having signed a new two-and-a-half year contract last week. Manchester-born O'Hara, 21, has had spells on loan at non-league Stockport and League 2 side Morecambe in recent years but has spent the last year mainly as the first-choice goalkeeper for United Under-23s.

Jose Mourinho gave O'Hara the number 45 and named him on the substitutes' bench for the final Premier League game of last season at home to Crystal Palace. O'Hara was also added to United's Champions League squad earlier this term.

Even though O'Hara has made just one matchday squad during his fledgling United career, he has been involved in preparations for Europa League, League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League matches as the warm-up goalkeeper. Goalkeeping coaches Silvino Louro and Emilio Alvarez insist the third-choice matchday 'keeper participates in warm-ups to assist the starting and substitute 'keepers.

2017 Jul - TP Run to San Antonio: Day 5 - Mon 17 Jul 2017 - London Heathrow to Manchester

There was no queue for the T5 transfer bus, and indeed it was there waiting for me. No hassles in getting through passport control either, and then I was up in to T5 south and the First Wing.

It feels like it has been a long day already. Since I managed to get home earlier than expected, I organised a Tesla pickup from the airport so should be a fairly smooth run home now. Thanks to Stew for offering to help me out if Tesla couldn't fit me in.

Through the First Lounge and straight in for a shower. That freshened me up nicely, and then in to the CCR. Found a power point, answered some work emails, and then headed through to the First Lounge for some lunch.

I was in the CCR for only about 30 mins before I needed to leave for Gate A5 for my final flight to Manchester. I reached the gate 45 mins before departure and there was already one person in the priority boarding queue.

Boarding was fairly civilised, the flight was on time, and I arrived in to Gate 143 at Manchester T3. Just as I turned on my phone I got a call from Dave at Tesla who was waiting close by, and would be driving around in white Model S to pick me up.

The drive to Tesla Stockport took about 15 mins or so. A quick discussion with the service centre and I was on my way home.
