Preacher Of The Word
by Alex McClelland
The stone carvings deep in the hills and caves had spoken of this moment for millennia. The slowly winding clock, spiralling, spinning, maddeningly out of order yet so chaotically in time. Long ago was it foretold by the mystics that 'when the great sisters turned upon their paths would the unmaker exalt what is unmade'. The skies of Draven did not sound the flight of the eagles wings, it's people beyond it's ailing gaze. Many had heard stories of the 'golden guardian' and his righteous disciples. They heard how within his arms all was made safe, right and prosperous. They spoke gleefully of better times to come, a future where their lineage would be free from the curses that made their lives so very hard… but those times would never arrive. Neglected, alone and forgotten, hope guttered out within the people's hearts. As Draven's sister moons swam across the horizon and crept ever closer to each other, a strange ambience bled into the air of a remote surface town. One by one its denizens made their way out onto the cold plains beneath the darkening cosmic orbs, guided by whispers of an inhuman tongue. They followed the whispers in a daze until they found themselves standing before the gargantuan figure clad in red, a tome of raging orange fire held open by one arm, a long brass staff streaming a glowing eldritch mist in the other. " I am the preacher of the word and I have come to set you free…"

[TATIANA] How long have they known about this?
[JENNIFER WARE] For the better part of four months, ma’am.
[TATIANA] Oh, God.
[JENNIFER WARE] We assume it started when he was here for his winter leave, after Miss McClelland vacated her apartment at St. Mary’s.
[TATIANA] Yes, she told me that much.
[JENNIFER WARE] He’s been sneaking Miss Whitley into various royal estates, I assume in an attempt to avoid paparazzi.
[JENNIFER WARE]  Obviously in order to do that he needed to penetrate palace security. Undoubtedly someone along the chain alerted His Majesty’s staff to this whole ordeal.
[TATIANA] Oh, brother.
[JENNIFER WARE] It’s a terrible look for him, to put that lightly.
[TATIANA]  I just don’t understand what would possess him . . . What should we do?
[JENNIFER WARE] Nothing, at least for the moment. So long as Prince Alex is in New Westminster the intimacy between him and Lady Nadia will cease, but the palace won’t entertain talks about him serving closer to home. They never thought he was being serious about cleaning up his act, this affair just proves their point.
[JENNIFER WARE] This doesn’t even mention that fact that Lady Nadia’s future in-laws own sixty precent of the country’s print media. If news of this affair leaked, they would be the ones controlling the narrative.
[TATIANA] My poor baby, he’s always struggled with managing emotions.
[TATIANA] Growing up Nicholas had this aloof confidence about him. He never got into fights, never lashed out. Alex was a different beast entirely. He’s always reacted emotionally, physically. He really struggled in school because of it. Couldn’t focus, always wrapped up in his feelings.
[TATIANA] That was the reality of raising a child with special needs. [SIGHS] James hated that phrase. Sigh Special needs. He saw it as an insult, I didn’t. We argued constantly about it, I remember telling him, like, “What the F am I supposed to call it?” That’s Alex’s reality, and he was trying to deny it, that was my view.
[TATIANA] I understand, he wanted to protect our son from judgement, people can be cruel, but we never came to an agreement on how to . . . manage him. The damage has been done, clearly.
[JENNIFER WARE] Respectfully, ma’am, Prince Alex isn’t a little boy anymore, he understands the consequences of his actions. To get his way, he needs to stop blaming others and establish a track record of good behaviour. That’s on him, not you or his brother.
[TATIANA] But keeping poor Margaux away from her father, it feels wrong. I read the papers, I want to believe Alex is better off on the west coast, I even told Nicholas he’s making good progress . . . but it feels cold to just exile him like this.
[JENNIFER WARE] I find the claim that His Royal Highness would be a good influence over his daughter dubious.
[TATIANA] Kamryn gave me an earful about that, too, it’s almost as if they’re a divorced couple. Not surprising. That’s usually what happens when people think they’ve found the one at seventeen. What?
[JENNIFER WARE] Well . . . what about you, ma’am?

"Four Men Committed," Windsor Star. July 14, 1943. Page 14. --- Charged With Looting From Summer Homes on Lake Erie ---- Four Windsor men charged with breaking into five summer cottages of Lake Erie beach resorts and plundering them of large quantities of possessions of the owners, were committed for trial by jury, by Magistrate J. A. Hanrahan, following a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in the county police court.
ADDITIONAL CHARGE An additional charge against the four, of breaking into the P. Philpot bake shop in Essex, and stealing $500 in currency and war savings stamps, will have a preliminary hearing in the county police court on Saturday.
The four accused are Louis Balog. Joseph Peltier, Donald George and Alex Fazekas. Balog and Peltier had Bernard Cohn as defence counsel. George was represented by Captain S. A. Wallace, and Fazekas by Ross Riddell, K.C.
A great quantity of possessions, including clothing and silverware, were heaped up in the courtroom as evidence in the case, and some of it was identified by Mrs. Charels Saunders, whose Cedar Beach cottage in Gosfield South Township was entered.
Two separate charges were made against Joseph Peltier of breaking into the cottages of H. A. Holderman and C. A. Davies at Cloverdale Beach.
In addition to the Saunders cottage. the four men also were charged with breaking into and stealing from the Oxley Beach cottages in Colchester South Township, of Charles Hess. Mrs. W. H. Stranger, Louis Delman and Dr. Carl McClelland.
ALLEGED JAIL-BREAKER Fazekas on Saturday also will face a charge of breaking out of Riverside jail on June 17.
Investigation of the breaking and entry charges was made by Constables F. C. Thurston and J. S. Bennett of the Ontario Provincial Police, who were the chief witnesses in the preliminary hearing.
Of the four accused, only Fazekas elected for trial by jury. At the conclusion of the case for the Crown, the magistrate having concluded that a prima facae case had been established against all four defendants, exercised his right to commit the four men for trial by jury.
ONLY EVIDENCE HEARD Only testimony concerning the breaking into and entering of the Saunders case was heard, following which, counsel for the defence, with the consent of their clients, waived preliminary hearings on the charges relating to thefts from the other cottages.

“Nevermore” by Alex McClelland, a piece showing off that perfect size and bulk of a Primarch. This is the epitome of what good Primarch art should be, IMO! Larger than life, beefy, and hot.

[ALEX] I took off leave so I could see her and she’s not even here.
[TATIANA] I’m sorry, hun, but everything had already been arranged days ago. She was always meant to spend spring break with her mother.
[ALEX] Arranged by who? Nick is not Margaux’s father. I am. Me.
[TATIANA] Nicholas had nothing to do with this. You know he would have preferred for Margaux to stay with us longer. It just wasn’t possible; we both have full schedules this coming week.
[ALEX] So, it’s my fault? Is that what you’re saying?
[TATIANA] I am not blaming anyone for anything but, from what I understand, Kamryn has been trying to reach out to you for days now to no avail. If you don’t communicate, things are going to get done without you. Kamryn maintains sole custody, remember that.
[TATIANA] Don’t look at me like that, sweetheart. I mean none of this with malice. Now, come sit with
your mama. Some tea will make you feel better, and we have maple cream cookies, too.
[ALEX] I want you to be honest with me, Nick, did you tell Kamryn about my thing with Nadia?
[NICHOLAS] Your thing with Nadia? Whatever happened to hello or how are you?
[ALEX] Just answer the freaking question, Jesus. Did you tell her?
[NICHOLAS] I didn’t know about it, but the fact that you think I’d know or even care . . . that’s interesting.
[ALEX] You’re not exactly known for minding your own business. Telling her seems like something you’d do.
[NICHOLAS] Out of what? Spite? You two might think I’m some evil Machiavellian type, but reality proves otherwise.
[ALEX] Really? You took Margaux all the way up here. You go out of your way to inconvenience Kamryn.
[NICHOLAS] It was a mistake, an honest one. You two are ridiculous, by the way. Kamryn McClelland is not being inconvenienced by a slightly long car drive.
[ALEX] She’s not like us, you know that. She has an actual job. She doesn’t even fly private anymore, not with the way things are right now.
[NICHOLAS] How thoughtful, I’m sure the fact her father is two seconds away from being ousted as party leader has nothing to do with it. Alex, do want to know what would actually help? Kamryn telling me her issues with me, with us, directly.
[ALEX] You can’t blame her for not trusting you, you and Mom both made her feel unwelcome, ever since high school.
[NICHOLAS] I don’t care what she thinks about me: I don’t want to feel guilty about spending time with my niece. I swear this is the tenth time: I’ll schedule a meeting. I have the power to make things easier.
[ALEX] I don’t know. It depends. Will you tell Schuyler?
[NICHOLAS] When did Schuyler become an issue?
[ALEX] Nick. Be serious. The guy leaks more than a broken faucet. You don’t have to tell him everything, y’know.
[NICHOLAS] He’s the one in charge of my schedule—And you know what? That’s sad. The way you’re suddenly distrusting him. You’ve known him your whole life.
[ALEX] And? The most he’s done is draft a few statements. I’m supposed to lick his ass now?
[NICHOLAS] He’s my private secretary. He was Dad’s. Things wouldn’t get done without him.
[ALEX] Don’t act stupid, this isn’t the first time I’ve been hurt by this family. This isn’t the first time my family has briefed against me. My distrust has been earned ten times over already, it’s whatever. What kills me is that they’re punishing Kamryn and Margaux through me, it’s fucked up.
[NICHOLAS] Grandpa was only trying to help you find purpose. He gave you a choice: military or university.
[ALEX] That doesn’t explain why he’s kept me shackled at Scarborough for so long, or why he’s banned Margaux outright from public appearances—
[NICHOLAS] She’s a private citizen, Alex, it’s for her protection
[ALEX] —I’m missing things; I’ll never be able to make up for that later.
[NICHOLAS] It’s easy to blame others, but I know you struggle with taking initiative. You worry about protecting Kamryn, but she rejected that protection. She broke up with you because you’re a Warwick. She broke up with you because you’re a Warwick. That is the original sin in her eyes. That’s why she refuses to talk to me, Mom, or anyone else.
[ALEX] She refuses to talk with you because she doesn’t need you. And I don’t need you to be a good father. I doubt you’ve ever actually been in love before, it’s always been just you, the only thing you care about. I’m sick of having the same five arguments with you.
[NICHOLAS] Fine, I’ll leave you alone. You’ll be happy to know I’m taking off tonight. I promised Mom I’d start therapy on Monday so . . . I don’t know, sometimes it’s hard being a chronically unlovable freak. Maybe if I’m honest enough, I’ll get an Adderall prescription just like you.
[NICHOLAS] Oh, one last thing, when Robin finds out about your thing with Nadia, it won’t be pretty for you.
