Can we just take a moment to appreciate the (not-even) one week progress on my alocasia polly corms?! 🪴✨

I moved these 3 corms from my prop jar into semi-hydro and I have leaves coming out on two of them!

(Left = Monday | Right = Today)

On that note I’m going to go repot the extremely sad mother plant into semi hydro

Anybody into growing tropical plants and want some (5) alocasia rhizomes for cheap? Two are still semi-active and the rest are dormant.

If I was your houseplant, you'd put me in your southwest-facing window and you'd clean my leaves off with isopropyl alcohol, water me once a week, appropriately size my pot too, and I'd still die on you

Alocasia Polly <Alocasia Amazonica>

Although this plant has been quite difficult in the past, she has been thriving in recent times and she's pushing out a new leaf! Also, she has given me some babies I'm excited about, from corms I harvested during a repot in mid summer. I'll thread those along soon!

🪴💧 Migrating to Semi-Hydro

On Monday last week I moved my alocasia polly corms from my prop jar to being planted in semi-hydro. Over the course of 5 days I got more growth from two of the corms than I have gotten from the mother plant in 5 months (when I got it). So, I decided to migrate that plant to semi hydro as well!

The Materials

Orchid/Semi-hydro pot

Lecca pebbles

Cache pot that has reservoir space

2x (very sad) alocasia corms

Cleaning the Corms

Organic matter will apparently rot quite easily in semi-hydro so it is very important to clean off all extra dirt on the roots. I had to chop off some roots in the process but this shouldn’t drastically affect the plants

Final Result

As per usual, this is a bit of an experiment. With my other migration to semi-hydro I am using more of a lechuza pon equivalent. But I'm running low on it and it's expensive so I figured let's try it in lecca 🤷‍♀️ It's not like it can really get any worse than it already is
