We all know that in order to succeed we need to change. Change is something that most people are afraid of. Why? Change involves danger. There's some element of danger to change. Think about it, the second you were born, you risked life and death to be born. That first journey through that tunnel is a perilous one. A lot of people don't make it. 

A lot of people don't make it just that first breath. Taking that first breath is one of the most dangerous things you will ever do and it doesn't change as you grow, as you expand on your journey as an entrepreneur, as a a father, a mother, as a a student of life, as of somebody who is introspective, somebody who is growing. You know, the growth doesn't come without change and change involves danger just the way it is. 

Every journey involves some level of danger and if you're not okay with that, then go back to your doldrum life and doldrum job and just accept it. Because it will never get better, but if you can just gather a little bit of courage, just a little bit just enough to dip your toes in the water and then your ankles and your knees and so forth and so on pretty soon you'll find that you can change and that's what needs to be done. Mirroring - An Effective Tactic To Win A Negotiation

I remember the first time I met Chris and you're like man, this guy's a FBI negotiator. He's a hostage negotiator. He's like you know, if he didn't do his job right, there'd be bodies lining up outside and he's you know, he's a tough like Chicago style guy you know, that comes in and he talks like, I'm cool man. And you know, like, this guy's been in the streets like this is a guy who is as real as it gets, as genuine as he gets, and so you would imagine that he would be a no-nonsense, like, super aggressive dude. 

And the fact is when you meet him, he is the absolute sweetest guy you'll ever meet and you could in a negotiation say something to the guy like, um well, that's ridiculous. I'd never pay that much and you would expect him to come back with something much more aggressive and I'm simplifying this but he would come back and say you would never pay for something like this, which is a technique that he teaches called mirroring, which is basically repeating back the same thing that the other person said and it makes the other person feel heard. It's a new style of negotiating and not a new style of negotiating but a style of negotiating that he's popularized.

Know Your Strengths And Weaknesses Inside Out?

One of the most important things that I tell them is that you have to know yourself and what that means is you have to know your strengths but you also have to know your weaknesses because it's only with that self-knowledge that you can gain that strength to go beyond. So we talk about like Walter Isaacson's book about Steve Jobs. The one thing that became evidently clear in that book like some people think okay, Steve Jobs was this and that. You look at Bezos. His book is out in vent and wander. You look at these guys and people are like - oh they're this they're that but at the end of the day the one quality that binds them, that binds all successful people even fighters. 

If you look at Mike Tyson, if you look at Tyson fury who right now as we're recording this as the heavyweight champion is that these guys know themselves, they know their strengths they know their weaknesses but they have this deep self-realized understanding of who they are and so did Steve Jobs. He knew exactly who he was and what his purpose was. Bezos coming out of D.H. Hutton one of the big adventure firms you know figuring out dude he knew exactly who he was when he started amazon and what he was going to do. He was going to take cheap money from wall street, pump it into silicon valley and build the world's most powerful e-commerce company and it's it's exactly what he did with that knowledge.

Stage Your Growth Using Feedback Loops

You can't start with a product or a business that's gonna feel to you like a steel wall. You need to go for low-hanging fruit, something that's a little bit easier. Why? Because it's gonna constantly be bringing feedback to you. So it's gonna close that loop for you and open up the opportunity for you to start taking harder and harder challenges and that's really the trick to this is that you need to find something that will feed your feedback loop and you can close that loop. So you put a certain amount of input in you get a certain amount of output out and that loop continues because if we keep banging against the wall with no hope of ever getting breaking through it we're going to quit and go on to something else.

That's why people move on to drugs. You see people that they're using drugs and you're like man your life was pretty bad as it was. Why would you add the complication of becoming a drug addict like why would you why would you do that. Well, the answer is easy because it closes the feedback loop. You know, you put the drugs in. You get a feeling out. It's giving you something, whereas the alternative might be hard. You might go out there to start a company, you might go out there you know to chase that beautiful you know spouse female that you're you know going after and she might not respond to you and the rejection of that might be so hard.
