Vous vous demandez sans doute pourquoi j’ai écrit ce guide-documentaire sur Ambérieu-en-Bugey ? C’est à la fois simple et émouvant. En 2023, mon épouse avait choisi cette cité du Bugey pour y passer quelques jours de vacances. Je me suis donc laissé tenter par l’aventure, d’autant plus que cela réjouissait mes enfants, avides de nature et de grands espaces. Nous nous sommes retrouvés à Ambérieu-en-Bugey et, d’emblée, j’ai été fasciné par cette petite ville doté d’un fort caractère et d’une identité à part. Je me rappelle particulièrement une journée en famille où, après avoir déambulé au centre-ville, nous avons été appelés par un groupe de personnes, qui menait grand tapage devant une boulangerie. Nous avons été invités à partager une galette au sucre (une des spécialités locales), arrosée d’un verre de Cerdon (une autre spécialité du Bugey) ... RAF A400M aircraft conduct operation training on unpaved runways in 🇫🇷 France

An Airbus A400M Atlas of the RAF and the crew of Brize Norton RAF Base recently participated in Exercise Ouranos in France, in which they trained to land on natural and unprepared surfaces, further demonstrating the capabilities offered by the Atlas fleet.

The Atlas aircraft and its crew underwent the Natural Surface Operations Training in Amberieu, France, during Exercise OURANOS, landing on unprepared surfaces. Natural Surface Operations are the ability of an aircraft to land on unprepared or natural surfaces other than regular asphalt or asphalt.

The flight was manned by members of squadrons LXX and 30 of Brize Norton RAF Base, the flight squadrons of the front line of the Atlas, with qualified instructors in XXIV Squadron Natural Surface Operations on board.

This multinational exercise saw RAF crews working alongside their French colleagues in the French Air and Space Force (Armée de l'Air), learning new skills and ways to work together, continuously improving interoperability with partner nations. It happens after the A400M aircraft of the Armée de l'Air that have held reciprocal training in Pembrey Sands, Wales.

"The Ouranos exercise has been an excellent opportunity for the Atlas Force. It has fostered relations with other nations and the exercise and will only serve to improve interoperability with these countries in the future. The exchange of knowledge about Natural Surface Operations with Atlas C1, and the opportunity to use the Tactical Landing Zone in Amberieu was a crucial step in the development of this capacity for the Atlas Force," said Squadron Leader Beard, Detachment Commander.

Natural Surface Operations are a key capacity of the Air Mobility fleet, widely expanding the variety of locations where the aircraft can operate without being restricted to prepared runways.

The exercise was made possible by members of RAF's Tactical Air Traffic Control, who created a controlled airspace and a Temporary Landing Zone on the unprepared runway.

Jour 24 14 kms mais 1200m de dénivelé en descente ! Nous arrivons au sommet du Grand Colombier vers 11h et prenons un deuxième petit-déjeuner au snack avant d attaquer la longue descente sur Culoz. Beaux points de vue sur le lac du Bourget mais je n ai plus de batterie. A Culoz Alice et Maxime nous attendent à la gare pour immortaliser notre arrivée (merci pour la photo). Nous sautons dans un train pour Amberieu puis dans un bus pour Bourg en Bresse où nous attend tonton Jean-François qui en plus nous a préparé un bon dîner 👍👍👍😂😂😂 Ici s achève notre traversée du Jura avec deux enfants.
