Wow so! Developments in the podcastosphere!
Listened to the beginning of the latest dear old dads episode this morning and Thomas was like "I'm back on opening arguments! Listen to it!" And I was like "good! I think. What does this mean?" So I headed to the reddit.
So the basic gist as I understand it is that the company opening arguments LLC got put into receivership for the duration of the court battle, which is far from over. But a receivership means a third party gets put in charge of how the business is run to preserve its value. Each side put forward a candidate (Thomas picked a woman who had retired from her popular podcast, Andrew was like "she is going to be biased towards Thomas because reasons, what about this media management guy who also is involved in small podcasts" and Thomas was like "but he has never been involved in a large podcast and his small podcasts would be competing with OA" ) and the court liked Thomas's pick better, and she agrees that the best way to maintain the brand is for Thomas to record new episodes with other lawyers for the time being.
So I guess things are going as well as could be expected when dealing with that shitshow.
Also spotted on the reddit some unqualified good news! Morgan Stringer has indeed, as I hoped, been well served by her connection with the Knowledge Fight podcast and is now happily employed at the same firm as Mark Bankston.

Listen to the whispers
As PZ already has covered, there has been some revelations about problems with two former board members of American Atheists. One was Mandisa Thomas, who has been a major voice among Black American atheists, but whose behavior has caused major rifts in that community. I have little knowledge about neither Mandisa Thomas nor the situation, but I firmly support the people who have left Black…

May 2022 Reading Wrap Up
I’ve decided to post what I’ve read each month on here. I only picked up reading again in May, so it starts there.
1. All That's Left in the World by Erik J. Brown. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
When Andrew stumbles upon Jamie's house, he's injured, starved, and has nothing left to lose. A deadly pathogen has killed off most of the world's population, including everyone both boys have ever loved. And if this new world has taught them anything, it's to be scared of what other desperate people will do... so why does it seem so easy for them to trust each other?
2. Heartstopper: Volumes 1-4 by Alice Oseman. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more...?
3. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. ⭐⭐⭐
After an international incident affects U.S. and British relations, the president's son Alex and Prince Henry must pretend to be best friends, but as they spend time together, the two begin a secret romance that could derail a presidential campaign.
4. Gone by Michael Grant. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
In a small town on the coast of California, everyone over the age of fourteen suddenly disappears, setting up a battle between the remaining town residents and the students from a local private school, as well as those who have "The Power" and are able to perform supernatural feats and those who do not.
5. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In a near-future New York City where a service alerts people on the day they will die, teenagers Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio meet using the Last Friend app and are faced with the challenge of living a lifetime on their End Day.
6. What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Told in two voices, when Arthur, a summer intern from Georgia, and Ben, a native New Yorker, meet it seems like fate, but after three attempts at dating fail they wonder if the universe is pushing them together or apart.

(Reuters) - New Mexico's attorney general has charged a police officer with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a Black nurse during a struggle last year in which police say the nurse took an officer's taser.Las Cruces police officer Brad Lunsford allegedly shot Presley Eze, a 36-year-old Connecticut man working in a Las Cruces nursing home, in the back of the head in August 2022 at a gas station. The officers had stopped Eze after an employee reported he shoplifted a beer from the station, according to police records and video.State Attorney General Raul Torrez on Tuesday said the killing was an unjustifiable use of force and another example of "poor police tactics."Torrez said in a statement that his office consulted with use-of-force experts who concluded that deadly force was not reasonable in the circumstances.Eze is among Black Americans killed by police in recent years whose deaths have sparked protests and a renewed push for civil rights and curbs on police brutality.Lunsford was booked on the charge and released on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Torrez said.Luis Robles, a lawyer for Lunsford, said that during a struggle Eze fell atop a second officer, tried to take the officer's handgun, then took his taser as Lundsford attempted to pull Eze off.Lundsford feared he and the second officer could be tasered and possibly shot with one of their own handguns while incapacitated, Robles said.(Reporting By Andrew Hay; Editing by Donna Bryson and Bill Berkrot)

Did you Know… - A PG:CC with Dr. Allison Gill
Dec 13, 2022 PoliticsGirl
“As we go into the holiday season, join me and the amazing Dr. Allison Gill, founder and CEO of MSW Media as we discuss where we are in America right now, so we’re able to go into our seasonal gatherings armed with the facts. Allison is the host of the, now infamous, Mueller She Wrote podcast, which broke down the minutia of the Mueller investigation and ended up getting her fired from her job at the Department of Veteran Affairs because the truth made President Trump mad. She’s the co-host of Cleanup on Aisle 45, where she and Andrew Torrez report on the Justice Department & Intelligence Agencies as they rebuild after the damage caused by the Trump Administration. She’s the host of the Daily Beans, the amazing daily news podcast, and her newest show Jack just launched, where she and former Deputy Director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, document the actions of the new special council Jack Smith and his ongoing DOJ investigations into Trump’s many crimes. Allison is one of those people who knows everything about everything, and I thought she was the perfect person to give us all a little perspective and insight as we come to the end of the year.”

Open Arguments is a great podcast for learning about legal issues, and this episode in particular is excellent for explaining how Affirmative Action actually works, as well as providing some examples for why diversity is important to foster.
In case you are skeptical about its benefits, affirmative action does not prevent excelling students from being accepted to university just for being white or privileged. And students who do get into university due to affirmative action are not doing so merely by the color of their skin.
If we care about providing future generations with (1) as many chances as they can regardless of their station in life, and (2) giving students a wider world view in which they interact with peers of various backgrounds, then we need to protect affirmative action programs in universities. The idea that rich white students are being passed over in enrollment for disadvantaged students is ridiculous, and it’s a mindset that presumes these students don’t deserve the opportunities they work very hard for. But the actual mechanics behind the placement are described much better by Andrew Torrez. And I think everyone should listen regardless of their personal feelings.

Which muses would be good parents?
MULTI-MUSE MEME QUESTIONS! SEND IN A QUESTION AND I’LL ANSWER WITH WHAT MUSE(S) IT APPLIES TO! || accepting
Well, obviously Wolf & Nat (because they're already parents 😳), but I also know that without any effort the following muses would all make excellent parents. Most of them already have 'parent' experience or would kill to be parents.
Juniper Triton, Ethan McGuinness, Cade Skywalker, Atlas Zingaro, Leo Mori, Nathan Beauregarde, Ace Coleman-Ryder, Noah Prince, Andrew Visser, Dirt Eastwood, Rowan Rivers, Aspen Bianchi, Hero Torrez (because he had good parents even tho rip them), Scarlett Hamilton, Bee Lafayette, Margot Kaj, Gabrielly Barbosa, Mattheo Torrez
I know all of the above would make great parents. Everyone else could go either way lmao

Andrew Torrez Slays Festival Circuit with Wake, Smiley Death Face
There is never going to be a drought in horror. People will always crave it, and want to make it. In this brave new era we have with “smart” horror, there will be more and more people out there trying to be the next Get Out, or Hereditary. The world has spoken, and they want more than the blood, more than another zombie apocalypse. They want horror movies that are trying to say something. And…
