Socmed au part 5!!! (Part 4)

I have a lot to explain I KNOW. I’m sorry apparently I’m incapable of writing silly happy fun stuff, it’s the bane of my existence. im sorry about the twinyard fight!! I’m especially sorry that I didn’t move that plot along after the beginning, I have a couple scenes planned to progress that plot and make things happy again but I was just too exhausted to write it this week so I will absolutely include it in part 6!! Coming out who knows when!! I don’t know what happened to Kevin’s profile pic and I’m too tired to fix it so let’s assume Neil gave him a profile pic that was the exact shade of white as the header ig. Ummm I based Jeremy’s experience with homophobic fans off of real life things I’ve seen happen regarding queer people and pride in the sporting world, the hockey world mostly. I wanted to make it really really clear that I wasn’t trying to diminish the experience of queer WOMEN in sports by talking about the backlash men face, and I know there’s a lot of nuance to this debate that I didn’t address because I didn’t really know how to. Exy is a mainstream, very popular co-Ed sport, and it was hard for me to draw parallels between fan responses in real life to fan responses in a world where people just accept sports that aren’t segregated by gender. So yeah, if anyone has any problems with the way I addressed this I’m sorry, feel free to dm me if you have any concerns!

Finally!! I’m going to release a little half part (either 5.5 or 6.5) kind of doing some background and world building regarding where the main cast is in 2016, how they got there, and who else on the US court this year! So keep an eye out for that if u want more backstory!

i love matt boyd bc he spends the whole series pre-baltimore trying to give neil openings to tell him he has a thing for andrew and likely trying to figure out how to say “i support the fact that you like men but i think we need to talk about your taste,” and then baltimore happens and he’s like “oh nvm i don’t have to get into all that, i get it now”

like yes it is very funny how many times he aggressively side eyes neil and unsubtly prompts him to talk about his feelings, but it’s also so genuinely sweet how much effort he puts into being a safe person for neil to talk to if he wants or needs it, and how seeing the strength of andrew’s care for neil is enough to change his mind about them being together

The Fox Tower common room was, as usual, a chaotic mess of noise and movement. Neil was sprawled on the couch, half-listening to Nicky’s animated retelling of some ridiculous story from his latest night out, while Matt and Dan were engaged in a heated debate over whether pineapple belonged on pizza—a conversation that had somehow spiraled into a full-blown argument about culinary morality. Allison was scrolling through her phone, occasionally interjecting with a scathing remark, and Renee was quietly knitting in the corner, a small smile on her face as she observed the chaos.  

Andrew was, predictably, doing nothing at all. He sat in his usual spot, arms crossed, eyes half-lidded, looking like he was seconds away from either falling asleep or stabbing someone. The only thing keeping him tethered to the conversation—if it could even be called that—was the occasional glance he flicked toward Aaron, who was sitting on the floor near Kevin’s feet, idly flipping through a textbook he was only half-reading.  

Kevin, for his part, was leaning back in his chair, one leg propped up on the coffee table, looking every bit the self-important athlete he was. He and Aaron had been murmuring to each other for the better part of the last ten minutes, their conversation lost under the cacophony of the room. No one was paying them any attention—until, as often happened in large groups, the room suddenly fell into an unexpected lull.  

It was one of those strange, spontaneous silences where everyone just happened to stop talking at the same time, leaving the room eerily quiet for a split second before the noise would inevitably pick back up.  

But in that split second, Aaron—oblivious to the sudden silence—responded to something Kevin had just said, his voice carrying clearly across the room.  

"Unless I’m sitting on your face, my weight should be none of your concern."  

The words hung in the air for a single, horrifying moment.  

And then Kevin, without hesitation, replied, "You can make it my concern"  

The silence that followed was no longer accidental. It was stunned. Heavy. Every single Fox in the room froze, eyes snapping toward the two of them. Nicky’s mouth dropped open. Allison’s eyebrows shot up so high they nearly disappeared into her hairline. Matt choked on his drink. Dan looked like she was torn between bursting into laughter and slapping a hand over her face.  

Kevin, looking just as surprised as everyone else in the room and turns to face a shocked Aaron, and only raises a hand to his mouth like he couldn't believe he'd just said that. "I did not mean to say that-" 

The shorter wasted no time refuting the Queen's claim, "No, you clearly did."

And Andrew—Andrew, who had been a statue up until this point—slowly turned his head toward them. His expression didn’t change. It didn’t need to. The sheer, unblinking intensity of his stare was enough to make the temperature in the room drop by several degrees.  

Aaron, finally realizing what had just happened, went pale. Kevin, who had apparently only just registered that the entire team had heard him, stiffened like a deer in headlights.  

For a long, excruciating moment, no one moved.  

Then Nicky, because Nicky had never met a tense situation he couldn’t make infinitely worse, whispered, "Oh my God."  

Allison, ever the opportunist, pulled out her phone and said, "I’m texting this to the group chat."  

Aaron made a noise like a dying animal. Kevin looked like he was seriously considering throwing himself out the nearest window.  

Andrew stood up.  

No one breathed.  

He didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to. The look on his face was enough to make even Kevin—usually so arrogant, so unshakable—take an instinctive step back.  

Then, with the same terrifying calm he always carried, Andrew turned and walked out of the room.  

The second the door shut behind him, the Foxes erupted.  

Nicky was vibrating with barely contained glee. "Aaron. Aaron. Did you and Kevin just—"  

"We didn’t just anything," Aaron snapped, his face burning.  

Matt was grinning like an idiot. "Dude, you flirted back."  

"I did not—"  

"You did," Dan said, shaking her head in disbelief. "And Kevin—Kevin—"  

Kevin had his face in his hands. "I’m leaving the country," he muttered.  

Allison, still typing furiously on her phone, smirked. "Too late. The whole team knows now."  

Aaron groaned, dropping his head into his hands. "I hate all of you."  

Renee, ever the voice of reason, finally spoke up from her corner. "I think it’s sweet."  

The room exploded into fresh chaos—laughter, teasing, Matt slapping Aaron on the back hard enough to nearly knock him over—but Aaron barely heard any of it. His mind was still stuck on the fact that Andrew had heard. That Andrew had left.  

And worse—that Kevin had meant it.  

Somehow, that was the most terrifying part of all.

Okay, I might be pulling this out of my ass but since that finals match was in Evermore that means the foxes should have been wearing their white away jerseys. Which means: the final match was a game of chess.

Not only are they wearing white, but they have first serve (Dan won the coin toss), and near the end the Foxes' king (Neil, because this is a battle between Riko and Neil) changes positions with the tower (Matt, a defenseman that towers over most people) creating the illusion of a castling.

And right there at the end, Riko attempts to kill Neil because they're in front of each other, but that's not how kings work. In the time it takes him to take that step, Andrew closes the gap and strikes. Check mate.
