So... Genesis, in my AGS raises the baby remnants au (I really need to come up with a shorter name), was never taken back like it happened in Crisis Core! He has just been chilling in Banora for a while, now that he was mostly cured of degradation! He managed to access some money he had saved and paid to get a house built in Banora. He is a bit of a hermit now but he is way too focused on studying the goddess further and just overall connecting more to the planet and the lifestream. He has also written some planetology books under an alias!

Angeal: The one where you have your own room with a private bathroom, a pool, a jacuzzi and a tennis court?

Genesis:

Angeal: Where the red convertible your parents got you for your 16th birthday is currently parked, you asshole?

Genesis: I—

Angeal: If it rained too hard at my house we had to put buckets out so it wouldn't flood. We didn't even have a fridge. Just an ice box.

Genesis:

Angeal: How was the asylum they raised you in, Sephiroth?

Sephiroth: My playroom was a mako tank.

Angeal: His playroom was a fucking mako tank.

That post about how Angeal is willing to steal from people who are poorer than Genesis's family made me remember a theory I bombarded @birdblacksocialclub with ages ago, so I want to have a little ramble about it here.

Angeal says he would not steal from the trees belonging to Genesis's (foster) family because they're friends. it would be dishonourable to steal from your friend. But I have another theory about where this line of thinking came from other than Angeal's sense of honour.

One of the few things we know about Genesis's foster parents is that they were reporting back to Shinra, albeit they later chose to lie to them when they 'got attached' to him. Notably, Gillian (Angeal's mother) chose not to and refused to let Shinra anywhere near Angeal save for the existing surveilling that was being done in Banora. This makes total sense, she tried to leg it with him as a baby and was caught, so she clearly didn't want Shinra involved with Angeal in a big way and refuses to acknowledge anything about her life in the Jenova project.

Genesis and Angeal are childhood besties. It's likely they were in and out of each others pockets, but the economic difference between them had to mean that Genesis was more likely to want to give him things. Unfortunately, those things came via his foster parents and by extension, Shinra - the very company Angeal's mother is trying to get to leave him alone to live out his life relatively quietly.

My bet is that Gillian told tiny Angeal that he shouldn't take things from Genesis, that it isn't honourable, that it was considered charity and they had some pride and he internalised that as not taking things from his friend. From his perspective, the issue is that they're friends and it's a matter of respect and pride between them.

From Gillian's? It's trying to make sure

a) Angeal is not in Shinra's debt due to Genesis not understanding where his foster parents loyalties once lay and he's more likely to stop offering if Angeal is the one to shut it down than if she does

b) instilling the idea that Angeal shouldn't take things from people in power because it might land him in some trouble some day, especially if she's wary of someone of the suited variety showing up one day

and c) that said foster parents don't see enough of Angeal to ever include him in their observations because she knows they're not normal kids

(those blueprints for the copy tech were archived with Project G, they absolutely knew when they were kids that they had some abilities, just not enough as to be as sure a bet as Sephiroth was)

It might have been about honour for Angeal but I think it probably started as a way to try and keep him away from Shinra's scope. At least, until the war kicked off and he signed up anyway.

How hydrated are AGSZC?

Angeal: Hydrating regularly and reminding everyone to stay hydrated as well!

Genesis: Drinking juice. Occasionally fancy wine. Does that count? He thinks it does.

Sephiroth: Casually dehydrated all the time, has to constantly be reminded to drink water, eat, and rest.

Zack: Stays hydrated under Angeal's watchful eye but the tradeoff is he now has to pee every five minutes.

Cloud: Slowly and gradually falling into hell, sweating all the time because of PANICC with all these famous soldiers around him.

You mentioned that Genesis was mostly healed, does that mean he still has some lingering affects?

Oh, this is the first ask I get of my AGS baby remnants au!! Thank you anon :)) The most obvious effects of the degradation are physical scars, how the wound on his shoulder spread down his back to then give way to the black wing. I don't say that Genesis has been completely cured since I do believe the degradation could be triggered again somehow. Right now those cells lay mostly dormant on his body, and for now they aren't affecting him. It could escalate if another injury, like the one in Crisis Core, were to happen. The whole, mako or mako energy seeping in through the open wound. So it can possibly get bad again, but it would have to be a very specific situation.

As of now, the degradation will just make itself known throughout the years. Getting some early white hairs, bad joints, and maybe some chronic pain. It would basically make his body get all of these things earlier than most people do in life. This is the same for Angeal too! Since he does come back in this au :)

Missed opportunities for AGSZ +C and Turks

Some are sad. Some are good…and some just are.

Tseng: Missed the opportunity to respond to Rufus' "I'm leaving" with "like father like son" because he didn't want to be fired.

Angeal: Missed the opportunity to be there with his father when he passed away. He had already been deployed to Wutai and never got to properly say his goodbye. He regrets it to this day.

Zack: Missed the opportunity to eat the most delicious, mouth watering, once-in-a-lifetime, borderline unholy cheeseburger. He unwrapped it as he was walking into the break room, tripped, then watched (in slow motion and hearing "Ave Maria" in his head) as his cheeseburger splattered all over the floor, and was promptly swept up by Angeal's broom because he was tidying up the place. At least 15 SOLDIERs ran into the break room because they thought Zack's screams was him being tortured.

Reno: Missed the opportunity to stick his leg out when Genesis was walking by and trip him, but was caught off guard by the tears in his eyes. He figured the dude was already having a bad day. He also missed the opportunity to trip Sephiroth as he was walking by with a giant bowl of Udon. It would've been funny to see him trip and fall with all the ramen, but Reno was caught off guard by the way he slurped up the entire bowl in one go.

Cloud: Missed the opportunity to, when helping Angeal throw out a dead plant, say "this plant is so dead, Sephiroth could call it mother" because Sephiroth was in the room and he values his life.

Rude: Missed the opportunity to take Sephiroth's 10,000 gil offer to shave Rufus' head.

Sephiroth: Missed the opportunity to ask Hojo, who he found drunk and delirious one night and stupidly tried to help, what "Get out Lucy" meant. Hojo denies that this event ever happened and insists that he would "never drink that rubbish."

Genesis: (post-canon) Missed the opportunity to tell Sephiroth and Angeal how much he cared about them, how much they meant to him, and that he loved them. He also missed the opportunity to apologize to Zack and have any sort of relationship with him. It's too late now. All of his regrets are ghosts.
