Comedian Kevin Hart injured in Southern California car crash
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor-comedian Kevin Hart has been injured in the crash of a vintage muscle car in the hills above Malibu.
A California Highway Patrol collision report says the 40-year-old Hart was a passenger in a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda that went off Mulholland Highway and rolled down an embankment around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
The report says Hart and the driver, 28-year-old Jared Black, both suffered “major back injuries” and were taken to hospitals.
Another passenger, 31-year-old Rebecca Broxterman, only complained of pain.

The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia shared this map for cyclists trying to get to or get around the NFL Draft. Note that the Indego Art Museum Station has been temporarily moved closer to the Schuylkill River Trail.
Best ways to get there:
Walk: If you have a smartphone, put “Benjamin Franklin Parkway” into your map and start your trek. You can’t miss it.
Take SEPTA: The city is encouraging drivers to park down in South Philly at the sports stadium complex, where parking will be free during the draft. From there, take the Broad Street Subway at AT&T Station, located at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, and get off at City Hall or Race and Vine and walk to the parkway.
If you take SEPTA regional or the Market-Frankford Line, get off at 15th Street/Suburban Station, which drops you off right at the foot of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. (More information on SEPTA detours and travel info over here.)

My current painting depicts one of the many bays of columned pediments that grace the multiple facades of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This particular one faces Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive.
I haven’t yet decided if this piece is done. I’m thinking of revisiting some of the highlights and shadows on the architecture, but I’ll need a brand new triple zero brush to accomplish it. I hope to drop it off at the gallery early in coming the week.

Happy Book Lovers Day to all you bookworms out there! Did you know that our Library & Archives houses materials dating from the 1400s century to the present? Located in the Perelman Building and open to the public, our extensive collections help tell the stories behind our works of art, exhibitions, events, artists, and the creative communities we serve.
“Millions of Cats” is a picture book written and illustrated by artist Wanda Gag in 1928. The book won a Newbery award in 1929 and is the oldest American picture book still in print. This copy belonged to museum director Anne d’Harnoncourt, having been gifted to her father by the artist.

Ten years ago today, our East Terrace became the site of a blossoming flower of light and fire by Cai Guo-Qiang. “Fallen Blossoms” derives its name from the classical Chinese proverb “hua kai hua luo,” which speaks to the profound feeling of loss when a life is cut short unexpectedly. The one-time ephemeral event was held in 2009 as a memorial to the late Anne d’Harnoncourt, former director of the museum.

Philadelphia Museum of Art’s construction fence is a work of art
Can this happen at every construction site?
Let’s face it: More often than not, construction sites aren’t all that pretty. And over at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, there is a whole lot of it going on, from work on the $196 million Core Project by Frank Gehry to the construction of an outdoor festival for this month’s NFL Draft.
But it doesn’t surprise us that the art museum has figured out a pretty creative way to minimize all that mess: By building a construction wall made of art.
As Co.Design reports, the Philadelphia Museum of Art turned to Pentagram years ago for help, long before any work had started on its ambitious expansion project. The design firm came up with the idea to create an impromptu, outdoor art installation that would double as a construction fence during renovations.
Called “Constructionism,” the installation features a 450-foot-long wall of various art pieces—75, in fact—of varying sizes that lean against large slabs of plywood. Don’t be fooled if the “gallery” selections seem mismatched—that was purposeful, according to Pentagram:
The pieces are loosely arranged in groupings that appear random but have been curated to create surprising combinations that offer a visual dialogue between works. For instance, three portraits painted in very different styles may appear together, inviting comparisons.
Right now, the installation is located mostly at the corner of Kelly Drive and Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive, but it may move around as construction continues, according to Pentagram. The artwork may change, too, with the museum swapping out pieces for others over the course of the three-year-long project.
It also serves as part of the museum’s “Inside Out” exhibition, which every year brings remakes of paintings and prints to the streets and sidewalks in various Philly neighborhoods.
“Constructionism is a celebration of what the Museum does, which is make art accessible to the city,” Pentagram’s Paula Scher said.
Here’s what “Constructionism” looks like right now, now on display outside of the museum.

Philadelphia Museum Of Art Breaks Ground On Frank Gehry-Designed Expansion
Exciting things are happening at the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art!
Last week, the museum broke ground the first step in a brand-new (and highly anticipated) expansion, which will add tens of thousands of square feet to the galleries and public spaces.
FAST FACTS
The Philadelphia Museum of Art broke ground on The Core Project, a 23,000-square-foot expansion.
The expansion will add tens of thousands of square feet to the galleries and public spaces at the museum.
The Core Project will also unveil new space for the modern and American art galleries.
The Master Plan
Plans to renovate the main building have been under consideration for more than a decade, with an initial integrated Facilities Master Plan completed by architectural engineering firm Vitetta in 2004 and design development by Frank Gehry and his group dating back to 2006, when former Philadelphia Museum of Art director Anne d’Harnoncourt asked Gehry to head the project.
Gehry, renowned around the world for such expressive buildings as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, has taken a very different approach with the Philadelphia Museum of Art project. Gehry was tasked with updating the interior of the museum while keeping the exterior of the proclaimed “Parthenon on the Parkway” the same. So, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s exterior will remain the same throughout this process.
Guests can view Frank Gehry’s renderings and an architectural model of the designs in a first-floor gallery in the museum. The model and renderings will be on view until late 2018.
The Core Project
The Core Project phase of the Master Plan is currently underway at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This phase will add 23,000 square feet of space to the modern and American galleries and add new education spaces and public areas for museum guests.
This phase of the plan will also reopen spaces that haven’t been accessible to the public in more than 50 years, including the museum’s north entrance off of Kelly Drive. Once completed, the entrance will open up a sweeping vaulted walkway. Dining areas and meeting spaces will also be redesigned during The Core Project.
The main aspects of The Core Project — including the reopening of the North entrance — will be completed in 2019. Other aspects of this monumental project will be completed in 2020.
The museum will remain open throughout the duration of the Core Project, but signs of the expansion will be visible in spaces like the north entrance and the food service areas. Note that the galleries will remain fully open and accessible.
Stay tuned for more on the exciting additions to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
