Film: The Intern film review
Tumblr media
(Source: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2361509/)
Release date: 2nd October 2015 Duration: 2hrs 1 min Genre: Comedy, Drama Directed by: Nancy Meyers Rated: 12a Cast: Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, Jojo Kushner, Andrew Rannells, Zack Pearlman
Released on 2nd October 2015, The Intern is another movie to add to Nancy Meyer’s collection of work. Meyers is known for her portrayal of romantic relationships in the successful movies such as The Parent Trap, What Women Want and Something’s Gotta Give but with The Intern, she decided to take a different approach. In an interview with CBS This Morning, she states that relationships are the focus in all of her movies but rather than focusing on a romantic relationship, she wanted to explore a friendship through The Intern. In addition, she felt it would be funny to have something about a retired person who hates retirement.
The movie begins with Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) who is a 70 year old retired widower and is already bored of retirement. He decides to apply for a senior citizen intern programme at About The Fit which is a fast-growing e-commerce start-up fashion company. Ben is hired along with four other senior citizens. Ben is chosen to work along the founder and CEO Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway) but quickly finds that she is hardly around and has little work for him to do. Jules does not initially like the idea of having an intern but soon picks up on Ben’s impact and presence within the company. One day, Ben clears the desk that was used as a dumping ground and ends up being Jules’ designated chauffeur after Ben intercepts her current chauffeur when he was caught drinking on the job. During his time at About The Fit, Ben develops an interest in Fiona (Rene Russo) the in-house massage therapist and also becomes a father figure to many workers at the company by offering advice in various aspects of life. As time goes on, working alongside Jules allows him to gain an insight into her life and he becomes well acquainted with her stay-at-home husband Matt (Anders Holm) and daughter Paige (JoJo Kushner). While Ben is interning at the company, Jules finds herself under pressure to step down as CEO due to the investors feeling that she is unable to cope with how fast the company has grown. Jules takes it into consideration as she feels it will allow her to spend more time with her family. On a business trip which Ben accompanies her, she discloses that she knows about Matt having an affair with another parent at Paige’s school. Thinking that stepping down as CEO will save her marriage and company, she tells Ben she thinks it is for the best and will go ahead with it. Ben reminds her of why she started the company in the first place and that no one will know her company like she does. Matt finds Jules at the company and apologises for his affair and promises that he will work on being a better husband. Jules rushes out to find Ben at a Tai Chi class where she joins him and tells him that she has changed her mind.
The tagline “experience never gets old” for this movie is definitely reflected in the storyline. It is a heart-warming and feel-good movie that is suitable for people of all ages. Focusing on the relationship of what is an interesting dynamic of two characters of different backgrounds, ages and generation, this movie shows that you can never stop learning in life and you can learn a great deal from other people at any point in your life. Many people are able to take something away from this movie and it is extremely relatable to everyone.
The Intern is available to buy on DVD from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intern-DVD-Robert-Niro/dp/B015ZUA8II

Keyword Searches
Keyword searches were conducted in the EBSCO/Host / RoadRunner database for scholarly, peer-reviewed articles between the period 2013 and 2017. Keyword searches were conducted for education and value, education as intellectual property, education and infringement, education as valuable resource, and branding and education.
Introduction
Similarly as with law enforcement, education is a discipline that requires precision, discipline, enforcement, and consequences. It must be recognized as such and furthermore acknowledged as a resource of value, in this case, intellectual property with all rights, responsibilities, and such as conferred. Considering the leverage education maintains, it is under-valued, under-appreciation, and treated with the disdain often times of non-recognized societal contribution with equities similar to addiction and similar values. This practice must be discouraged, with the necessary support required of and by education championed to the greatest extent capable. After all, education is basic at all levels and should be regarded as such beyond the primary and secondary levels.
Education and value
The introduction of technology within the higher education setting facilitated the creation of value-added not already present in the knowledge transfer process. Technology, regardless of efficiency, is not enough. Morality, integrity, will, and desire is also required to optimize competitiveness, in addition to the elimination of the barriers present within the knowledge transfer process. Hamidou (2016) discussed several technology available within the knowledge transfer process as Digital Textbooks (DT), Digital Versatile Discs (DVD), the Internet and E-learning Blackboard platform. These mediums create a more efficient learning system in which the student is able to create their own knowledge development network which is a departure from the knowledge transfer process. This includes, (1) more dedicated learning time including a more forgivable intrusion on personal time, vacation or time with loved ones; (2) repetitive-based learning cycle as needed, so student has the option of repeating concepts on a learning schedule created by her; and (3) the peer to peer learning system is more complete, in that collaboration is more accurate given the student’s schedule facilitates a more complete learning process. The student now has the opportunity to organize and present concepts and thoughts more completely, and disagreements are well thought out for the events of debates and rejection.
López-Pérez, Melero, and Javier (2017) contributed to this argument with their discussion on sustainability, social responsibility, corporate governance, and ethics. López-Pérez, et al.’s (2017) argument is that society has become aware of the fact that the current economic development model is not sustainable and that education and training are essential to the sustainability of our system resulting in an educational curricula being no longer an option but a priority. The cost of an education is as impressive as its value, but at times harder to amass and accumulate than the value resulting in at times an incomplete knowledge process and its resulting fallacies. Here, sustainability begins with the equal and equitable availability of the resources required to accomplish a complete and conferred education resulting in the accomplishment of a significant resource of value, an intellectual property. This results in Volchik and Maslyukova’s (2017) productivity increase, increasing returns / return on investment, interpretations of performance, academic value, and proof of incentives and motivation.
Education as intellectual property
The conferment of education and its recognition as intellectual property is more that the acknowledgement of the completion of an education. It is a direct reflection of the acquisition of the necessary and relevant skills described by Yerzhanov, Adilova, Shakaman, and Shaimardanov’s (2016) as intellectual work management that helps to support future professionals to acquire knowledge in the course of education. Yerzhanov, et al. (2016) skills are further extended to, (1) planning and designing a learning curve [could be expressed as, this should take X time. Do you believe it is enough?]; (2) evaluating and selecting content of education [applying the content of a training module]; (3) monitoring and guaranteeing compliance between internal regulations of the educational work and the creative and analytical job, as well as research and project activities [accurate and complete application of a training manual]; and (4) using new approaches in teaching and learning, assist in the knowledge formation and reconstruction [developing new / creating revisions to optimize efficiencies and eliminate redundancies].
These skills open the door for further acquisitions and development of new skills including Yerzhanov, et al. (2016) execution of (1) developing systems, subsystems, and infrastructure; (2) recommending and implementation of technologies to some degree; (3) carrying out research, design studies and development activities; and (4) developing new methods of knowledge reproduction. The skills also extend to communication, presentation, and feedback both to the new intellectual property owner (student) and the employer as perspectives are now available, (Yerzhanov, et al. 2016). These skills are the framework to increasing the value of education as intellectual property value, now viewed as intellectual property capital whose presence automatically presents its nemesis, infringement.
Kezar (2017) makes the successful argument that groups like the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) are calling for faculty to defend their rights to intellectual property. This right should not be associated with faculty only, but is extended to students as well given the extent of their investment to develop their education as an intellectual property resource, now their trade, profession, and sole source of income. Unfortunately most of the time, the fuss over a student’s intellectual property resource expires at the end of the graduation day and when infringement comes calling is invited in and accommodated.
Education and infringement
Students are taught the concept of infringement and usually how it is presented with their environment, usually as plagiarism. Tella and Oyeyemi (2017) argues that this point can be expressed in greater clarity and more effectively. Tella and Oyeyemi’s (2017) argument was that this issue of copyright infringement usually affects the economy of the copyright owner, and the understanding of copyright is particularly important in all environments as creators are continuously using the works of others to build and shape their own thoughts, opinions, and indeed produce their own works (Tella and Oyeyemi’s, 2017). The students now have two perceptions of infringement to manage, (1) if their education is infringed upon it affects their earning power. An example of this would be the sharing of education in any manner on a compensatory or other basis. It would be wise to identify that this is often reflected in the references given to the student subsequently and can result in criminal sanctions decreasing Volchik and Maslyukova’s (2017) productivity increase, increasing returns / return on investment. (2) The second perception of infringement is that using the work of others without Tella and Oyeyemi’s (2017) crediting the source for use in the process of building and shaping the students’ thoughts, opinions, and production of works.
Teh Eng Choo and Paull (2013) discusses the effort universities make in ensuring students understand the value of morality and integrity in their works through their written and discussed policies including language such as, university encourages its students and staff to pursue the highest standards of integrity in all academic activity. Furthermore, Teh Eng Choo and Paull (2013) argues that the student should be made to understand that plagiarism is cheating and not some other random or miscellaneous behavior, regardless of reasons including temptation and opportunity.
Another intellectual property resource to consider is branding, capable of and
recommended to coexist with the other intellectual property, education, and sustain it. Infringements cheapen the brand the students created with their education, and can result in significant diminishments including prorated salaries, derailed advancement, and reluctance in the distribution of references.
Branding and education
Dean, Arroyo-Gamez, Punjaisri, and Pich (2016) describe brands are strategic assets that provide an organization with an imitable competitive advantage. Palmer, Koenig-Lewis, and Asaad (2016) presented the important concepts of brand strength - the strength of memory of a product exceeding that of its competitors, brand identity - the dynamic process of development over time, and the adoption of best practices as a competitive method to cope with market pressures (Palmer, et al., 2016). Simply put, the students should be groomed to leave the memorable impression of the development of their capabilities over time, leaving no room for opportunities of / for denigration including infringement. Rauschnabel, Krey, Babin, and Ivens (2016) argues that brand image, identity, reputation, and meaning remains underdeveloped, creating opportunities to extend job search to include a marketing strategy. How to get the job, and the strategies and tactics to keep it.
Chapleo (2015) argued for successful branding with, good brands are key resources for generating competitive advantage, and brand management is a central organizational competence that need to be understood. At this juncture, the students should be discouraged from entertaining challenges that may be presented in their branding or emerge from the branding process. Cavicchi, Rinaldi, and Corsi (2013) argue important points and potential conflicts, (1) many stakeholders are likely to have differing ideas about the “real” problem and causes; (2) solution(s) to problem is (are) based on “judgments” of multiple stakeholders; (3) the end is accompanied by stakeholders, political forces, and resource availability; and (4) there is no definitive solution, which are all like to emerge over the course of a career including the academic and prior to the completion of the development of the education, primary intellectual product. Cavicchi, et al. (2013) went further by resolving these conflict with, place branding as a high level of intangibility and complexity, to continue to maximize the brand and the return on investment of education.
Branding and recognition of the intellectual property of education as it is
Lax (2014) developed a decision making model applicable throughout all levels of education, academically to administratively. Most importantly, it can be used to apply branding strategies strategically to the student at all levels, their mentors and coaches, and their universities.
Fig 1. - Lax’s (2014) National Decision Model (ACPO, 2012)
Conclusion
The discussion of intellectual property is often pretentious and is reserved for the wealthy and famous, incorrect. It is reserved for the earned and branded, and includes the conferment of an earned degree. The road does not end with the conferment, the investment. The student must now be strategic and earn the necessary and required returns on the investment by maintaining gainful employment with a reference to be secured at each change of venue. After all, intellectual property resources are just that. In this case, it is an early start with a growing list of conferred education and its branding strategy.

Gosnell Movie Phenomenon Continues Ahead Of DVD Release
Like the trial on which it is based, the film Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer has from its inception and despite all odds-- including a very limited showing and the establishment’s repeated attempts to block it-- had a profound effect on its viewers. Moreover, it remains a fan-favorite, still maintaining an “unprecedented” 98% audience approval rating on RottenTomatoes.
Producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney recount showing “a liberal friend an early cut of the film. [H]e left the theater and started chain smoking, declaring: ‘I’ll have to rethink everything.”
McAleer and McElhinney say viewers “have responded in unprecedented numbers with overwhelming[sic] positive reviews. Many have said it changed their lives.”
McAleer and McElhinney ought to know. The Gosnell producers were themselves not yet pro-life when they first became determined to tell the story of the Gosnell trial. They were merely Irish journalists wanting to tell the story of America’s most prolific serial killer, abortionist Kermit Gosnell-- a story which domestic journalism seemed largely uninterested in reporting.
Indeed, McElhinney admits she “never trusted or liked pro-lifers,” saying she considered them “too religious” and “manipulative.” Yet, the Gosnell story, she says, “can change hearts and minds. It changed mine.”
Reporter JD Mullane, who famously tweeted the picture of the empty press benches inside the Gosnell courtroom, told former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in a 2013 interview that “one journalist…who ha[d] told [Mullane] that he [was] very liberal, very pro-choice…after sitting through the testimony in the Gosnell trial, [had] reconsidered. He’[d] changed his mind.”
“That’s the power of the Gosnell trial,” Mullane added.
Such has also been the power of the Gosnell movie, which has had a deep impact on pro-life and pro-choice viewers alike.
It has moved pro-life people to action. One grandmother whose grandchild died in the womb at 28 weeks was inspired to honor his memory by purchasing Gosnell tickets, even though she herself was unable to use them.
“It was something positive l could do in a time of sorrow,” she said. “I want to encourage others to do the same ...in memory of children or just to support getting the truth out about this important film.”
Another pro-life advocate told her friends she wanted them to go see Gosnell with her during her baby shower in lieu of bringing gifts. Her friends were so touched by this selfless sentiment they decided to throw her a surprise baby shower at a restaurant after the movie.
One Gosnell fan even used his truck as a mobile billboard to promote the movie, after all when the media refuses to review a top-rated movie, supporters take matters into their own hands.

AS SEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: The #GosnellMovie is even making waves on the Left Coast!
A post shared by Gosnell Movie (@gosnell_movie) on Oct 31, 2018 at 6:50pm PDT
In the film’s opening weekend, Terri Palmquist of LifeSavers Ministries, Inc., a pro-life ministry in Bakersfield, California, rented a theater to encourage people to see the film. After the screening, Palmquist told the moviegoers about LifeSavers’ weekly sidewalk ministry outside a local abortion clinic. On the Wednesday following the screening, four mothers who had watched the Gosnell movie joined the ministry outside the abortion clinic and successfully ministered to a young pregnant woman who decided not to have her scheduled abortion after talking to the other moms and seeing them with their children.
“The girl was just touched. The moms were letting the girl hold the babies. Without them there, I don’t think we would’ve been able to reach that mom, and the moms who came out were motivated by the movie,” Palmquist said.
Pro-abortion supporters have completely changed their minds on abortion after seeing the Gosnell movie. Kathy Zhu, a college student at the University of Central Florida, tweeted out to her 50,000 followers:
"Yesterday, I was pro-choice. I believed that women should have a say & the gov shouldn’t be interfering w/ our lives. Today, I'm pro-life. After watching #Gosnell & doing in-depth research, I finally understand the horrors of loopholes in late term abortions. Pls go watch Gosnell."
In response, another Twitter user shared how the Gosnell trial had changed her:
“I was pro-choice but when I first heard about the Gosnell trial and grand jury report in 2011-12 I completely became pro-life."
Breitbart contributor, Patrick Courrielche, also tweeted to his followers:
“The Gosnell movie singlehandedly changed my mind on abortion.”
According to producers McAleer and McElhinney, “[t]hat is why we made the Gosnell Movie— not to make people think a particular thing but to bring facts to people and to make them think again. As journalists and filmmakers it is all we want to do.”
In an interview with Family Research Council, McElhinney said, “I can tell you… people sit until the very end of the credits. At one place, a priest stood up and said, ‘Would anyone like to pray?’ and everyone stayed, and everyone prayed… In other places, people huddled in groups in the foyers of movie theaters and prayed. This is what we’re getting from the audience.”
McElhinney added that she could spend “all day reading the most beautiful letters from people who have changed their mind about abortion from watching the movie.”
Others wrote to tell McElhinney they were ignorant of the facts of abortion before watching Gosnell. They thought abortion was illegal past three weeks gestation or they had no idea what abortion involved. Viewer testimonials can be read at the movie’s Official Facebook Page.
The Gosnell movie is definitely a phenomenon viewers do not want to miss. Which other movie has changed so many minds, inspired activism and people to buy tickets even in areas the film is not showing as well as sparked prayer and in-depth conversations in the theater after the film?
Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer is available for pre-order on DVD at Amazon.com and is already topping Amazon Best Seller lists. It is set for release February 5, 2019. Order your copy here and join the movement.

Home Entertainment Consumer Guide: November 29, 2018
7 NEW TO NETFLIX
"Buybust" "De Palma" "Green Room" "Into the Forest" "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" "Krisha" "The Workshop"
7 NEW TO BLU-RAY/DVD
"2001" (4K)
For a very long time, it felt like if you had a DVD player, it was required that you also owned two films, The Wachowskis' "The Matrix" and Stanley Kubrick's "2001." Now the tide is slowly shifting from standard HD Blu-rays to 4K ones and a legion of great, essential films are being remastered for the new format. Some of the 4K remasters feel almost like afterthoughts. You could barely tell the difference between an upscaled Blu-ray and the 4K release, so why bother the double dip into your wallet? However, there are some titles that simply look made for 4K, and one of those films is "2001," now available with the best technical presentation it's ever received. The depth of the field and the complexity of the audio mix have never popped quite like this, and that's coming from someone who has covered this film on DVD, Blu-ray, and seen it in a theater. This is the best it's ever looked.

"The Big Lebowski"
It may not have the visual depth of field as "2001," but another one of Roger's Great Movies hit 4K this month, likely to coincide with the launch of Joel and Ethan Coen's "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" on Netflix. And while you probably remember most of the memorable lines from the "The Big Lebowski," you might have forgotten how much this film pops visually, making it a great addition to a 4K collection.

"Blindspotting"
As the year comes to a close, there have been a number of Sundance hits popping up on year-end lists like "Leave No Trace" and "Sorry to Bother You," both winners at Gotham, National Board of Review, and the Independent Spirit Awards. One of the forgotten films appears to be the Opening Night film from this year's Park City event, Daveed Diggs' and Rafael Casal's excellent dramedy about a young man in Oakland who witnesses a police-involved shooting. Although that description doesn't really get at what this film accomplishes. It's smart, hysterical, and emotionally raw. A decade from now, Daveed Diggs is going to be HUGE, and people will look back at this film like they look at "Do the Right Thing" (a clear inspiration) now. And they'll wonder why more people weren't talking about it in 2018.

"Candyman"
The way the internet and my odd career works, I've ended up writing about "Candyman" several times in the last few weeks, assisted by this excellent new release from Scream Factory. It's one of the best horror movie Special Editions of the year, with tons of special features, including new interviews with the cast and crew, but it's the movie itself that will startle you. I'll admit that the teenage me had kind of blown it off as just another boogeyman movie, but there's a lot going on here regarding race and urban legends, elements that I virtually guarantee you the Jordan Peele-produced sequel announced this week will emphasize. This is the best thing you could be the horror fan on your holiday list.

"Crazy Rich Asians"
There are scant few actual movie phenomenons any more. Most of the movies that make a fortune at the box office are more product than art. Don't get me wrong, I love "Black Panther" and "Incredibles 2" but their box office success was as guaranteed as the sun coming up tomorrow. A film that truly exceeds all pre-buzz is rare. We got "A Quiet Place" early in the year, but the real box office story of 2018 is probably "Crazy Rich Asians," a film so successful that it's even being predicted for some guild citations and maybe even an Oscar nomination or two. As if there was any question as to whether or not an Asian ensemble could anchor a blockbuster, it's been answered with over $220 million worldwide and counting. People love this movie and it's been encouraging to feel like that love is more than just a calculated response to a known commodity and more of an embracing of a previously-unheard voice reaching a mass audience.

"The Meg"
Oh how I wish I could wholeheartedly recommend "The Meg." As a fan of the Statham Era of the "Fast and Furious" movies and someone who considers "Jaws" one of the best movies ever made, the idea of "Transporter vs. Shark" had me pumped from the minute I first saw the preview. But this is a half-hearted "Sure, if you have nothing else to do" more than a strong thumbs up. The more I think about it, the more stunned I am how often this movie goes wrong. First, it takes itself WAY too seriously. A movie like this needs to be tongue-in-cheek, allowing Statham to show how he can blend action and humor like has in the "Fast" movies and "Spy." There's arguably no one better than him and combining the two, and yet "The Meg" rarely allows him to do so. By the time the shark is getting to beach goers, you'll be bored. And I never thought a movie about a giant shark that starred Jason Statham could be boring.

"Pixar Short Film Collection, Vol. 3"
The third edition of short films created by the geniuses at Pixar should make for a great gift this holiday season...but only for people who already have the first two. This is easily the weakest collection overall, even if it does have a few highlights like the gorgeous "Piper" and "Lou," the two best on here by some stretch. As someone who loves Pixar and short films, my family has watched all three volumes, and this is the first one that they almost checked out of. It doesn't help that a LOT of the ones included here aren't the theatrical kind (like "Bao" or the dreadful "Lava") but mini-movies included on Blu-ray releases, quick tie-ins to films like "Inside Out," "Monsters University," and "Cars 3," which Disney collectors almost certainly already own.

Review What exactly is OUTOFTHECLOUD?
A storm has hit the investment market which we are not going to recover from. Crypto investment is that storm. With strict capital controls in place by most countries to control the flow of money and charge high taxes, cryptocurrency gained usage in circumventing capital controls and taxes, leading to an increase in demand. Cryptocurrency has been able to present an easy to use digital alternative to fiat currencies. Offering frictionless transactions and inflation control, investors have been prudent enough to add these currencies in their diversified portfolios as an asset, as the size of the market does not represent a systemic risk. Cryptocurrency employs the use of cryptography that assures high-security processes and verifies transactions personal to each user. Hence, counterfeiting and anonymous transactions are impossible to achieve. While this revolution is gaining wide acceptance, OutCloud Systems Inc., a Blockchain based project which provides a platform for sending multiple large multimedia files with extensive file sharing experience in a safe, secure and fully customizable display has arrived. Before we go any further, please check out this video presentation to get acquainted
youtube
What exactly is OUTOFTHECLOUD?
OutCloud Systems Inc. is a Blockchain based project which provides a platform for sending multiple large multimedia files with extensive file sharing experience in a safe, secure and fully customizable display. Here, you can create your own dynamic and instantaneous streaming presentation in just a few seconds through their company website. They are Integrating Blockchain to eliminate print, mail document, paper, ink cartridges, staples, envelops, postages, CDs/DVDs etc. They are simply transforming the file sharing industry by enabling people to send and receive large files which includes large audio-video, document, image and other files. The OutCloud system was first developed solely for use within the private detective agency as a means to securely send case related materials to clients which often included large video, document, audio and image files. Other file-sharing services available at the time came with serious security concerns and lacked any form of presentation whatsoever. The existing file-sharing services also required the receiver to download files one at a time before they could even be viewed and required the users to grant them many invasive permissions to even use their system. This was simply not an acceptable way of doing business correctly within this specific industry. OutCloud Systems, Inc. has developed a state of the art Internet Delivery Platform for sending multiple large multimedia files and has ventured well beyond the usual file sharing experience to include a dynamic and instantaneous streaming presentation of those files in a safe, secure and fully customizable web page presentation that can be personalized for each recipient.
The Problem
Files and Data At Risk Leading file sharing services utilize centralized storage with high vulnerability signatures to store your important files and in addition, require their users to give total access to their desktop and files. Not only do they require this from the sender of large files but the receiver as well. This practice puts your data at great risk which often leads to compromising users computer's security and also has the potential risk of virus contamination as many computer viruses infect a computer during the downloading process. There are plenty of horror stories. Zero on Presentation Most of the file-sharing services offer no solution for presentation of the files shared using their systems. Just boring links for your recipient to download. It may not seem like much of a problem, but it allows the receiver to see all the files at a glance, without downloading the files themselves or an intrusive program to see them. Our system is designed to allow our users to build a customizable secured webpage presentation or dashboard that can also be branded to look like a part of the sender's company or personal website, complete with a personalized welcome message and personalized text message to the intended receiver. Sort of like Wix™, but for large files. Large Storage space required Large storage space (gigabytes) required by file-sharing services requires the receiver to download and install their invasive program before files can be viewed. This takes unnecessary storage space, time and effort on the part of the receiver. Sharing Redundancy Our competitors that allow for sharing of large files cannot make changes once a file has been sent. If someone accidentally sends the wrong file there is nothing that can be done about it. This can become a very costly mistake in cases where sensitive information was sent to the wrong individual. Our system allows for changes to be made in real time even after a link has already been sent and changes are made instantaneously.
The Solution
Safe and Secure Your files and data will be stored in highly secure and locked down folders, encrypted, parsed and placed all over a blockchain network. Decentralized storage is impeccable security. Proprietary Viewer Your clients will be able to view your files all in one secure viewer that you can make your own with custom branding and positioning. Nothing to Install All that is needed by your client is internet access, a computer and a web browser. Custom Branding You can place a banner at the top of our viewer, watermark directly on your video and place a link in video.you can also drag and drop exactly where you want your files to appear in your presentation The user’s ability to send, not just a link to files, but a link to a presentation of one’s files displayed in a context they design, customize and brand is what will place our file sharing system above the rest. What the user can do with their files or presentation is dependent on the type of monthly package they have subscribed to which is based on usage and fees. OOTC can currently accept video files up to 5 GB each and all other file types up to 50 mb each with up to 100 items per presentation created.
The Pre-Launch app for OOTC is currently available on the App Store and Google Play and will be our way of communicating with those interested in or vested in our company and our product launch.

CARLOS MIGUEL PRIETO NAMED MUSICAL AMERICA’S 2019 CONDUCTOR OF THE YEAR
Continues as Music Director of The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica Naciónal de Mexico, Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería, and The Orchestra of the Americas.  Prieto Makes National Symphony Orchestra Debut (November 2018). Returns to Detroit Symphony Orchestra (December 2018).
“Prieto and the [Chicago Symphony] orchestra entered fully into the supercharged energy of the music, making as much of its tender lyricism as they did of its convulsive rhythms and clashing tonalities.”
—Chicago Tribune, May 2013
October 16, 2018 – Musical America today announced Carlos Miguel Prieto as 2019 Conductor of the Year. Prieto, 52, a native of Mexico and one of that nation’s most important cultural ambassadors, has been praised for his charismatic conducting and colorful and dynamic interpretations. He is a frequent guest of some of the most important orchestras in the world and serves as music director of four orchestras: Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (since 2006), Orquesta Sinfonica Naciónal de Mexico (since 2007), Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (since 2008) and The Orchestra of the Americas (since 2011).
The Musical America honor, among the most prestigious awards in classical music, recognizes Prieto’sascendant international career as a versatile and innovative conductor. His vast range of repertoire stretches from Bach to Haydn, Beethoven to Brahms and Mahler to Shostakovich. His enthusiastic championing of new music is evident through the ambitious commissioning he has done and premieres he has given of over 100 works, with a particular focus on Latin American composers.
The 2019 Conductor of the Year award will be presented to Prieto at the 58th Annual Musical America Awards at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, in New York.
Carlos Miguel Prieto on being named Musical America's 2019 Conductor of the Year:
I am thankful to Musical America - a publication I cherish - for this distinguished honor. I am humbled to be in the company of past and present honorees who have been role models and have inspired me throughout my career.
I am blessed to have grown up in México which is the epicenter of the Americas, a region of the world where music is vibrant and vital.
None of this would be possible without the support of my family, from whom I inherited a profound love of music. My wife, Isabel, is the reason I can pursue my passion.
I share this honor with the musicians, orchestras and organizations that have embraced the belief that we can, and must, improve the lives of others through music. The task ahead is to use that potential to unite us and make us better.
Prieto is a graduate of Princeton University (Engineering) and received his MBA from Harvard Business School. In April 2018, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music by Loyola University in New Orleans. Prieto has served as Mexico’s delegate to the Davos World Economic Forum and has received recognitions from the governments of Mexico, Austria and the Netherlands, including being named “Conductor of the Year 2002" by the Mexican Union of Music and Theatre Critics.
The 2018/2019 season marks Prieto’s 13th season as Music Director of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), where he has been a part of the cultural revitalization of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, including the re-opening of the historic Orpheum Theater. As Music Director of the LPO, Prieto has raised the orchestra’s profile at home and abroad by leading concerts at venues around the city, by inviting esteemed guest artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and Pepe Romero to perform with the orchestra, as well as commissioning and performing new works. On February 27, 2018, Prieto led the LPO in its Carnegie Hall debut in a concert featuring music by Revueltas and Gabriela Ortiz, as well as celebrating the 80th birthday of Philip Glass. Reviewing the Prieto’s conducting of Glass’s Days and Nights in Rocinha, The New York Times wrote: “Mr. Prieto’s feel for subtle shifts in dynamics created an environment both dreamy and dramatic.”
The LPO’s 2018/2019 season opened on September 13, 2018 with Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Throughout the LPO’s 2018/2019 season, Prieto will lead concerts at the the orchestra's Orpheum Theater home and and throughout New Orleans, including Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Anne-Marie McDermott in November, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade with BBC Young Musician of the Year Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 in January 2019, and Chávez’s Sinfonía India and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in May 2019. The final concert program of the 2018/2019 season sees Prieto conducting a program featuring Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Joyce Yang and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, also in May 2019.
In recent seasons, Prieto has appeared with orchestras across the United States and around the world, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Beijing Symphony, The Hallé, NDR Elbphilharmonie, and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
This season, Prieto makes his debut with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., November 15 – 17, 2018, conducting Copland’s El Salón Mexico, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Denis Kozhukhin, and Revueltas’ La noche de los Mayas. On December 6 – 8, 2018, Prieto returns to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for the first time following his acclaimed debut in 2017, leading the DSO in Brahms’ Concerto for Violin with Christian Tetzlaff and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. In 2019, Prieto will return to The Hallé in the UK, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony in Germany, and the Sinfónica de Valencia, Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León in Spain.
Prieto is a renowned champion of performing and commissioning works of new music, especially from Latin American voices. His position as a cultural leader in Mexico is illustrated by his work as music director of two of the country’s most important orchestras: the Orquesta Sinfonica Naciónal de Mexico (OSN) since 2007, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería since 2008. Prieto and the OSN have toured internationally, including the most recent tour in 2017 featuring performances in Cologne and Frankfurt in Germany, as well as in Austria at the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, and the Musikverein in Vienna. On November 7, 2018, Prieto will lead a fresh interpretation of Mozart’s Requiemfeaturing the OSN and the Compañía de Danza Contemporánea de Cuba at Mexico City’s massive Auditorio Nacional which seats nearly 10,000.
A passionate proponent of music education, Prieto has led several initiatives in North America and beyond. He has played a key role in The Orchestra of the Americas since its inception in 2002, and has served as Music Director since 2011. Each summer, he leads an ensemble of Pan-American musicians on tours that have traversed from Chile and Argentina to Jamaica and Haiti to the United States and Canada, as well as across Europe. In the summer of 2018, Prieto led the ensemble in performances across Europe, conducting works by Barber, Bernstein, Chávez, Copland, Montero, Tchaikovsky, and Villa-Lobos, in Lusławice, Poland;  Wiesbaden  and  Hamburg  in  Germany;  and  in  Edinburgh,  Scotland  as  part  of  the  annual  Edinburgh  International  Festival.
Prieto’s commitment to young artists was recognized by Carnegie Hall and he was tapped to lead its annual NYO2 initiative, a free  program  that  brings  together  outstanding  young  American  instrumentalists  (ages  14-17)  from  across  the  U.S. for  intensive  training  and  performance  opportunities, which culminated in performances at Miami’s New World Center and in New York’s Carnegie Hall in July 2018.
Prieto’s extensive recordings include two recordings with violinist Philippe Quint, one with works by Bruch, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn (Avanticlassic), and another with Korngold’s Violin Concerto (Naxos) which received two Grammy nominations. He also recently recorded Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concertos No. 2 and 3 with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and pianist Boris Giltburg (Naxos). He has several recordings with The Orchestra of the Americas, featuring works by Brahms, Bernstein, Shostakovich and Revueltas, among others. In Spring 2013, Prieto released a 12-DVD set of live recordings of the complete symphonies of Mahler as part of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería’s 35th Anniversary season.

Startups are giving writers and filmmakers more ways to make it in Hollywood
On May 11 Netflix released the teen dramedy “The Kissing Booth” just as the school year was wrapping up for teens across the country.
By June, the company had a smash hit among the tweenage set, and Wattpad, the company which owned the rights to the The Kissing Booth, had its first true breakout vehicle. The story, written on Wattpad’s publishing platform by Beth Reekles, was a proof point for the company’s thesis pitching a new twist on the old model of discovering stories and creative talent for the entertainment industry.
Netflix’s latest hit ‘The Kissing Booth’ is a Wattpad success story
Behind the success of the film is a nascent movement among startup companies that are trying to open the doors of Hollywood’s dream factory to a broader group of creative professionals by riding the wave of fan fiction and user generated content all the way to the Paramount lot (or the Disney lot, or Sony Studios).
“In this obvious period of disruption in the entertainment industry how we’re finding stories is evolving,” said Wattpad Studios chief Aron Levitz.
YouTube, the short-lived Vine app, and Instagram have all created new platforms for discovering potential on-camera talent, and Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Instagram (again), Netflix, and YouTube (again) have smashed the distribution system for television and movies. But these platforms and the traditional studios they’d like to supplant have a voracious appetite for stories to tell and (many) are reluctant to risk millions of dollars behind something unproven.
Hollywood has always borrowed (or stolen) from other media to entertain the masses, but it seems like the fields it’s foraging in for new stories have narrowed to a few serialized playgrounds (comic books, old television shows and movies, and wildly successful young adult genre fiction).
While there are thousands of flowers to be found there, new tech-enabled companies are suggesting there might be other patches where new talent can be discovered, harvested and leveraged for corporate gain and viewer delight.
Startups like Wattpad and Tongal (for directors and cinematographers), and new financing platforms like Legion M (for producing features) are aiming to elevate new talent and provide what the companies hope will be built-in audiences for successful new programming on platforms like Netflix, Apple, and others — and the hundreds of networks that are vying for attention in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.
It wasn’t always this way. When Tongal was created, roughly a decade ago. the entertainment industry looked much, much differently than it does now.
Ten years ago that Netflix announced it would let its DVD subscribers watch streaming video as well — mostly old movies and syndicated shows that had already made their millions for the big networks and studios. That was the starting gun of what would become a race to roll up talent and gain audience in a creative landscape that was becoming increasingly competitive. With new entrants joining at every new lap.
At the time, Tongal was a discovery mechanism for new talent and a way for brands to pay for user generated content they liked. The company raised $15 million from Insight Venture Partners to harness the growing popularity of social media reach to create potentially viral videos for brands.
Tongal Raises $15M For Platform That Lets Anyone Compete To Make Branded Video Campaigns
Tongal is still working under the thesis of user generated content, but the difference now is the millions of dollars these videos and their creators can bring in — and the ability o energize and inspire a fan base to connect more directly and engage more frequently with new titles. All the while Tongal gives studios a window into a wider world of talent.
One creator on the platform, Tucker Barrie, has gone from making short videos for social media for IAMS to a career as an animator on projects like Isle of Dogs. “Tongal is a good spot for people who don’t have a lot of experience to gain a lot of experience and make a name for themselves,” Barrie said.
In the past year the company has inked a deal with National Geographic to produce a series called WILD After Dark. The first late-night series from National Geographic WILD, the new episodes will feature shorts from members of the Tongal platform on animal-related subjects. It launched with an open call for submissions in February.
More recently Tongal has linked up with Wattpad to call on its network of creators to pitch a treatment for Wattpad’s wildly successful science fiction thriller Expiration Date. In July, Tongal issued its call to filmmakers for submissions from which the partners will pick three finalists. Those finalists will receive funding to produce a “proof-of-concept” series trailer.
Then, Wattpad, Tongal and their distribution partner SYFY will award a grand prize winner additional funding to create a digital pilot episode with the potential to go on to develop the entire series for SYFY.com as part of its fan creators program.
“The partnership between Tongal and Wattpad flips the script on Hollywood by changing the how and who of content creation through our open platforms for talent,” said James DeJulio, Tongal’s co-founder and President, in a statement at the time. “These new global communities are made up of diverse and passionate creators, and now they’re actually developing the shows they want to watch. I’m thrilled that SYFY.com has opened the door for this innovative, by the fans, for the fans shift.”
This marks the second collaboration between Tongal and Wattpad on project development for a network. The two companies, which have a natural affinity as creative platforms focused on the visual and storytelling elements of a production (respectively), had worked on a similar competition for the CW Seed, and its production of Cupid’s Match, another popular Wattpad story (spoiler: it’s not very good).
youtube
“It’s one of those great proof points for Wattpad and Wattpad studios,” said Levitz, the head of Wattpad Studios in a February interview. “I think it’s the first public one that we’re talking about in a strong way.”
On Wattpad, Cupid’s Match had 32 million reads, and it was that kind of viral popularity that piqued the interest of the CW Network. “We can use the strength of an audience and get someone like CW interested in the output,” Levitz said. “We have 400 million stories on the platform. We’re able to look at the data we have the audience we have and the story we have and use data to choose the right stories for the right partner.”
Partners are lining up. Sony Pictures Television bought the rights to the Wattpad story “Death is my BFF,” and Hulu signed off on an order for “Light as a Feather”. Studios and networks including Turner, Universal Cable Productions (a division of NBCUniversal), eOne and Paramount Pictures, have also signed on to work with the startup.
Like Tongal, Wattpad also took a circuitous path to becoming a player in Hollywoodland. The company initially started as an e-book community operator sharing fan fiction and classic works. Over time, the fan fiction side of the content marketplace won out and the Toronto-based company went from raising capital from a consortium of angel investors to raising $51 million from a consortium of investors including the Chinese internet giant, Tencent, earlier this year. It’s likely that Tencent (and the studios it’s partnering with) were drawn to Wattpad’s 60 million monthly users.
Wattpad’s storytelling app, now with 60M monthly users, adds a subscription service
The foundation for the belief that fan fiction could be leveraged into hundreds of millions for the movie industry was laid by the success of the Fifty Shades franchise. The best-selling books, derived from Twilight fan fiction, were optioned into a series of three films and made for a cool $150 million.
By the time the last movie in the series debuted, the films were on their way to making over $1 billion at the box office.
For the past decade Hollywood has been relying on big franchises and fan-driven stories to create big numbers at the box office or online, said DeJulio.
“Fans are the lifeblood of these franchises,” DeJulio said. “We’re in this weird time right now… where marketing is very expensive and it is in a lot of ways hamstringing entertainment.”
DeJulio sees Tongal as a platform where one can influence and support the other.
“The studios, once they do get a hit… They realize that through fan communities and engaging them they can not only market it but they can actually get the work done too [of creating new content],” DeJulio said.
Mount Lee, Hollywood Hills, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.
If Wattpad and Tongal are using their network of users to find and promote talent, Legion M is hoping to use the network of fans for genre content to finance new productions.
The startup production studio has raised $3 million in equity crowdfunding over two rounds and has managed to grab a stake in well reviewed indie-projects like Colossal (starring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis) and Mandy a new Nicolas Cage vehicle already being touted as cult-classic gold. What that means as far as returns go for the shareholders that back the company’s funding campaigns is unclear, especially since the company’s Bad Samaritan project (starring David Tenant, everyone’s favorite of the new Dr. Who) was critically panned.
Founded by two serial internet entrepreneurs Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison, and backed by partnerships with folks like the Austin-based theater chain Alamo Drafthouse, LegionM’s goal is to bring in 1 million fans as investors to back projects.
The idea is to harness fan support for sales and marketing help and to surface projects that have enough of a built-in audience to generate profits for the company.
“We believe an entertainment company owned by fans is better than one owned by Wall Street,” said Paul Scanlan, Legion M’s cofounder and CEO, in a statement announcing the company’s new crowd funding campaign.
Some of the projects Legion M affiliated itself with are based more around fan engagement than an actual dollar investment. In fact, the company isn’t a producer of the marquee Colossal film, and instead came on to provide marketing support through its network of fans, according to an interview with the director.
Scanlan and Annison launched MobiTV, which was an early developer of technology to stream digital media on mobile devices. The two went on to launch New York Rock Exchange, a company that allows fans to buy illiquid shares in songs they love. It’s like a coin offering, without the upside, and without any legal ramifications because there’s actually nothing of value that acquirers are buying.
Unlike the Rock Exchange, average investors are buying real shares in the crowd funding offerings the two co-founders are selling via the Securities and Exchange Commission’s new crowdfunding regulations. And they’re tapping into the thesis that fans and consumers are driving the creation of commercially viable content now more than ever.
Wattpad, Tongal, and Legion M aren’t alone in their efforts. Companies like Seed&Spark, Coverfly, and The Black List, are also doing their best to uncover new artists and creators for the entertainment industry to develop. While on the financing side, new cryptocurrencies like MovieCoin (which just launched a pre-sale of its tokenized financing offering for producing new movies) and TaTaTu are angling to give the moviegoing public another (ideally more transparent) way to finance movies.
“Hollywood is a notoriously difficult place to traverse in the entertainment business. What we find in content creation, and the investment process as well, is that every project is seeking an audience,” Annison said in an interview with The Niner Times (the local university paper for the University of North Carolina, Charlotte). “Among Hollywood, which is such a massive world to step into, there are limitations along with those huge companies. In essence, it’s a ‘hit-driven’ enterprise, where the lines are drawn between the artistic side of filmmaking and the business side of entertainment. That can be a complicated street to walk down.”

This was easily one of the best places I have EVER stayed! Front Desk agent, Annie, went above-and-beyond with her prompt, friendly response when I inquired about getting a shower chair for my bathroom–I have arthritis. Then, when my granddaughter decided to stay with me one night, she delivered a rollaway bed to my room for her to use. Housekeeping staff also provided great, friendly service. The breakfast choices were plentiful and tasty, during the week and on the weekend. Both the pool and exercise room were clean and easily accessible. I will DEFINITELY stay here whenever I am again in the Parker area!

COSY MOVIE NIGHTS FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER
Happy midweek, today I wanted to share our latest film watching revelation with you. You might have seen some glimpses of the Sony Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector over on my Instagram stories a week or so ago? This little cutie has made movie nights at home amazing! I am not into techy things or gadgets as you must know by now (clearly born in the wrong era). We have no toaster, no microwave, no television and no DVD player and only a modest music stereo. But – we do love to watch films and a good TV series now and then. Watching Netflix on the laptop and ruining my posture is over – read on for my review and top 10 films and programmes to watch on the big screen at home.We have been looking at projectors for years, wishing we had the space to set one up, but then always got put off by the rolling out of a screen and having to stand the thing on a table or attach it to a wall? Our home is small and we only have a couple of bare walls in the place, so space is limited. I was very generously offered to try out this little guy by the folks over at SONY and we really are beyond happy with it. It is so tiny with big sound and images and can be hidden in between all our rustic treasure with no problems. It can literally be placed on a shelf for a regular TV size image (32″) or further away for an image of up to 80″! We found no loss of picture quality with the bigger size picture, almost 5 feet across (over our sideboard see bottom image) and love having home cinema nights in bed now with no neck craning. As you can see it has just two small parts (plus cables) and connects to all forms of entertainment from your laptop, Apple TV, Firestick, blu-ray player and more. Thanks to the wireless unit, it can be charged up and easily moved to any room in the house or outside on a dry night if you have a white wall outdoors? Next summers evening entertainment is going to go up a notch! The projector turns on when it senses your smartphone is nearby and off when it’s far away*, so you can control the projector from your phone or tablet with the dedicated app. Meaning you can choose what to watch with just a few swipes of your thumb, projecting everything – from your favourite holiday photos to home movies and TV shows. *If on standby – we turn all our plugs off when not in use! Here are some finer details for non-tech folk like me – it is super quiet due to the perforated body and inner fan that helps the projector stay cool and we don’t notice the sound at all when it’s on. The built-in speakers (two tiny 25mm Bass Reflex Speakers delivering powerful low frequencies & xLOUD technology lets you turn up the volume without any loss of quality) are exactly what we want from a home movie watching experience. We have been enjoying all our favourite films and shows larger than life over the last couple of weeks (see my top ten below), but you can project all types of content as a poster which expands continuously. You can share large-scale images from your social media (it also has beautiful built-in screen savers and travel photography see below) or project useful information on to your wall with various different style clocks, weather apps, and more.My top ten things to watch on the big screen for a cosy fireside autumn or winter evening are –
1 – The Edge of Love – harsh romance & cardigan joy. 2 – Anne With An E – period drama and interiors heaven. 3 – Stranger Things – 80’s style creepy. 4 – I Capture the Castle – scenery happiness. 5 – The Duchess – costume dreams. 6 – Blue Planet – amazing nature and wonder. 7 – Labor Day –  Winslet & Brolin. 8 – The Cider House Rules – classic adaptation. 9 – Anything with Fred & Ginger – Dancing dancing dancing ;) 10 – It’s a Wonderful Life – you know, it’s that time of year!We really are happy with the projector, it is just what I had hoped and more. I am not one for change and too much modern style living but this somehow mixes my old dreams with new technology. It is so easy to use and the beautifully simple design and discreet sizing mean we can tuck it away when not in use – or actually barely notice it if we don’t! I have always wanted to be able to project old movies onto our walls at home and have relished an hour an evening by the fire or in bed with a good film. This an unpaid product review collaboration, SONY generously gifted us the Sony Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector and I did the rest! All opinions my own, if we didn’t genuinely love and recommend this item – we would have returned it and no review would have been posted. Happy movie night! :) xxx

Discount DVD Reviews #30: Route 66
Back in the early 1960s TV was more than just an entertainment device; much more.  For most folks TV was their only window into far off places and exotic locales.  Folks living on dusty rural farms in Oklahoma or smoky steel-mill towns in Pennsylvania could heat up a TV dinner, turn on the magic box and be transported to exotic locales like a steaming African jungle, the ancient ruins of Pompeii, Ava Gardener’s cleavage or Walt Disney’s new magic kingdom Disneyland.  Travel shows (called Travelogues) were an extremely popular TV genre.  My love of nature came from watching those wild animal shows on TV in the late 50s and early 60s.
The early 1960s also ushered in the era of TV cool.  Hipsters and beatniks (proto-hippies) and cool jazz were surprisingly common on TV. (Though certainly not as common as the two single beds, no promiscuity, not many minorities and no homo world of the straight-laced nuclear family shows.)
I refer to such ‘cool’ TV shows as:
• Peter Gunn—pretty much a lame detective show used as a platform to present the coolest jazz of the era. • M Squad—similar but with cool Lee Marvin and the Count Basie orchestra. • Twilight Zone—we often forget the episodes that took place in the cool corners of the Zone. • Dobie Gillis—a silly sit-com but brought us much of our hipster language…like, you dig?
But for my money the coolest of the cool 1960s TV shows was Route 66.  Route 66 combined those two genres; travel to exotic locales and hipster cool.
The great Nelson Riddle composed one of the best themes ever, for Route 66.   This one-hour drama featured two very cool dudes; Martin Milner as Tod Styles and George Maharis as Buz Murdoch (two guys who could have both added an extra consonant to their first names…but didn’t).
Of course, the real star of the show was every boy’s cool dream car—a convertible Corvette.
The Route 66 premise was quite simple; Milner and Maharis just drove around the country in their Corvette, always with the top down (but curiously, rarely on the actual Route 66).  When they’d get low on spending cash, they would stop in whatever town they were in and get temporary jobs.  Usually the jobs were cool action jobs, like fishing or building a dam; but not always.  But old Milner (Tod) was actually one of, if not THE first computer nerds on TV.  He had a degree in Computing Electronics, which he often put to good use in the newly hatching computer industry.  While in whatever-town, the lads almost always would meet cute girls.   Buz (Maharis) almost always had a fistfight with a bad guy, which he almost always would win.  See, he grew up an orphan in Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
Here’s the kicker…here’s what made Route 66 unique in the history of TV; each week the one-hour show was filmed in the ACTUAL location in the story.  You’d get to sit on your couch and see Blythe, California in 1960…Squaw Valley, California in 1960…Butte, Montana in 1960.  When Tod and Buz went to a diner for lunch it was in an actual diner in whatever little town but of course the waitress would be Ann Margaret or Tina Louise.  I think all of the non-speaking extras were actual citizens of the little towns.  The rest of show’s actors fell into two amazing categories:
1. Old actors on their way out.   a. Lew Ayers b. Joan Crawford c. Peter Lorre
2. Young actors on their way up. a. Gene Hackman b. Cloris Leachman c. Rod Steiger d. James Caan e. Robert Redford f. William Shatner g. Barbara Eden h. Robert Duval i. And too many more to mention
The great Rin Tin Tin even stars in one episode and totally kicks some ass.
The two main characters, Martin Milner (as Tod) and George Maharis (as Buz), were decent, honest, intelligent and caring guys; the kind of guys we need more of these days, especially on TV shows.  Milner was the guy most 1960s Moms wanted their daughter to marry; Maharis was the guy most 1960s Moms wanted to sneak out and have robust, prolonged and enthusiastic sex with.
The writing on Route 66 was as poetic and intelligent as any writing you may encounter in today’s great TV shows; like Deadwood, Breaking Bad or The Wire.  The storylines tackled all sorts of issues no other shows were even approaching in the early 1960s.
But that car…ahh, that car.
