Taiwan will impose additional restrictions on exports to Russia.

The Ministry of Economy of Taiwan announced the expansion of restrictions on the export of high-tech products to Russia, as well as Belarus. The changes came into effect on January 4th.

The Ministry added 52 items to the new list, mainly related to "materials used in nuclear power", various goods and materials, chemicals and products for the engineering industry. The Taiwanese authorities say that these are high-tech goods that can be used for military purposes.

The ministry clarifies that export restrictions have been introduced by the United States, the European Union, Japan and the United Kingdom, as well as other "like-minded allies", and Taiwan is bringing its regulatory framework in line with the decisions of the "democratic allies". Prior to making the amendments, the ministry held consultations with the island's industry associations and manufacturers in late 2022 to exchange views on expanding the restrictions. I am not going to deny the general hostility towards people of Russia for the past few months has been a bit too strong for my liking. After all, they too deserve better than to be ruled by a tyrannical dictator. But it’s absolutely baffling to see the complaints about “russophobia” from the same people who caused the antirussian sentiments to rise in the first place by, you know. Invading an independent country and at the very least enabling, if not outright directing fucking war crimes.

Here’s the deal: most people from outside of the USA don’t like USA either. And the same people who talk about “russophobia” would be perfectly willing to admit the US government brought this hatred upon themselves with their own horrible deeds. Oh, but RUSSIA’S fight is righteous, why can’t anyone see this, they absolutely DESERVE to have Ukraine, they were never trying to conquer it, they were just defending their own people from the discrimination they faced by Ukrainians, Ukrainians are actual Nazis, the West was always sooo unfair to Russia, waaah, waaah...

Let’s just call this what it is: whining. Russian government and its enablers are whining about getting what Putin fucking deserves. And it’s frankly utterly bizzare to watch a country that for the past three centuries at the minimum was one of the power brokers of Europe, that has never had any qualms about expanding its territory cry about how eternally put upon it is. You know where MY nation was three hundreed years ago?! In Hungary, living as one of several ethnic minorities in a state dominated by Hungarians. And we were actually pretty well off, as far as our national history goes! For one, we were never a victim of an actual genocide (Although there was strong erasure of Slovak language and culture, thanks Hungary.) And many nations in the world really can’t say that! On a global stage, Russians were always extremely privileged. The worst tragedy that ever befell Russian nation specifically (because everyone suffered during WW2, other nations of the USSR included)? Russian civil war, easily. Other significant tragedies in recent history include... The communist terror of the first half of 20th century.

Because that’s the thing - compared to other European countries, Russia for the longest time was night-untouchable. You can’t destroy Russia from the outside (though, I mean, you can try and cause untold suffering for both sides, if you’re really determined). It’s just too big and most of the time too powerful. There is nothing that a foreign power could do to Russia that Russians themselves couldn’t, in fact they could do MUCH WORSE. This war isn’t going to destroy Russia, and I am not even sure it could destroy Putin. You know who could’ve been destroyed, had it not put one hell of a fight? Ukraine. Nation that for hundreds of years had no state of its own, that Russians have continually tried to erase and now are trying again. Russia isn’t, and for centuries so far it hasn’t been, in danger of being wiped from existence by some hostile force. And its attempts these days to pretend otherwise are fucking pathetic.
