you know when you're a kid and you have this weird definition of what an adult is. like you decide 11 is obviously not a kid anymore so on that birthday you turn into an adult and every adult is at least that old

my idea of what it meant to be an adult meant your computer time was on one of two games, because they were what I watched my parents play. I was kind of nervous to grow up because I didn't understand one of the games and it seemed really overwhelming to learn

anyway the games were solitare and age of empires II

There are rumours about a Kill Team tournament happening soon near-ish. My group and I have never gone to an official tourney so we want to go and are excited

We've been playing a lot on a sort of training regime. I do hope that my group are actually good players bc there are only so many losses in a row i can take 🥲

Blacknight’s recruitment line implies she had a showdown with the Doctor.

Now, you might be thinking, “was it physical?” Not likely, Blacknight would wring Doctor like a wet towel, obviously, and she said “showdown”, not “fight”, specifically in light of Doc being the best tactician of Rhodes Island, which would imply a competition where tactics are involved.

This would lead one to imagine, then, Blacknight and her beasts, the slumberfoots, versus Doctor and their beasts, but this would be far from fair because Doctor’s beasts are the actual wildest freakshow in Terra. If we take “beasts” literally, that means Doctor sics Nian, Dusk, and Ling at her, which is like if you showed up to the knife fight with an orbital laser. If we take “beasts” as “direct underlings and bodyguards”, then Blacknight’s still abso-posi-you-better-believe-it doublefucked because that means you have Blacknight’s funny little critters going up against absurdly dangerous assassins like Gravel, Platinum, Projekt Red, Phantom, and Schwarz, or straight up an Abyssal Hunter, Skadi (whose lines suggest she’s been put in Doctor Protection duty a few times so she counts as bodyguard). This is like if you put 5 dogs with knives taped to their collars against a squad of five distinct Doomguys and one lv. 750 umbilical chord-ending Bloodborne Hunter. For the untrained eye, this might seem like a close fight, but trust me on this one, I think the Doc wins.

Clearly, their showdown could only be one thing:

In one well-ventilated room, Blemishine set up two computers, the two most juiced up gaming rigs most Operators have ever seen in their lives. Blacknight sits in front of one, and the Doctor, like a regent taking their rightful place on their throne, gets comfortable in the ergonomically designed Rim Billiton-made gamer chair.

Blacknight’s feeling confident because her APM is 650. Her time in the wilderness taming beasts has given her both an incredible physique and superior gamer instincts, but what she doesn’t know is that the hooded freak in front of her regularly reaches an absurd 2200 APM when hooked up on Monster, and brother, that mason jar they are drinking from currently isn’t Sanity Potion.

4 minutes later, Blacknight is on the operating table. Kal’tsit curses Doctor again under her breath. “What’s the diagnosis?” she asks Warfarin.

“Zerg rush, 2:37 minutes. She’s on critical state, I give her a 34% chance of survival.”

Kal’tsit, Folinic and Warfarin spend the next 8 hours saving Blacknight’s life.

“I should’ve... Picked Age of Empires II...” muttered Blacknight mid-surgery.

“You fool,” quickly retorted Kal’tsit, “Doctor plays Lithuanians in AoEII... You would’ve died.”

Yep! Got it as like "Microsoft is making a Civilization competitor" and then enjoyed it but not nearly as much as Civ.

(But of course it was more of a Warcraft than a Civilization.)

Also got AoEII later, and Age of Mythology shortly before I mostly stopped gaming. Tried to pick AoE back up a couple years ago but the interface has aged too annoyingly, and I could get AoEII to run easily.

total war warhammer 3 once we get nagash, chaos dwarves, southern realms, nippon, ind, and kuresh will be a top tier strat game with aoeii, civ 5, and original starcraft.

4: that incredible movie set in ireland with the dumb guy and his friends who cuts his own fingers with shears!! That damn movie. Im bad at remembering film titles and actors effectively, was it the banshees of ishi-gaelic-sounding-name-something?

8: Age of Empire II :^pp im really not a gamer girl I play the same games since the naughts. Twist here is I started playing with human people, especially an AOEii-obsessed tgirl from Bordeaux and it changed everything. A lesson in humility.

9: november is the month I usually prefer, and this year I was particularly active, but I think I'll say July: normally I don't fancy summer much, but this year there was a magical combination of having some money, productivity in art, adventures and time spent with beautiful people.

10: I cried a lot over two heartbreaks, almost back to back. Polyamory is also about getting dumped in bulk ,':^)

25: i did came up with a couple of characters I really enjoyed drawing and writing about. One of them is a trans girl living in a barren world and she has a tragic backstory, but she has this deadpan attitude and stubborness about all her endeavors that in my opinion is the core transfem ethos.

• Final Fantasy VII (i wish i could play the remake urgh) • Terraria: I LIKE EXPLORING • Subnautica: I LIKE EXPLORING and fearing for my life • Hollow Knight: It’s beautiful, it’s difficult, it’s mysterious. I like exploring. • Age of Empires II: I’m sure, 100%, that One Piece uses the same blade fights and horse sounds samples as AoEII, i just- i’ve this game through most of my childhood, i just KNOW, they are the SAME.

Should also be mentioned: Don’t Starve Together, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Stardew Valley, any Pokemon, Graveyard Keeper, ESO, Tricky Towers...... TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF
