Lincoln Memorial- Elevation Plan

National Architecture Week: Day- 1 

 Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C. 

 Directly behind the Statue of Abraham Lincoln inside the memorial chamber, an inscription reads: 

"In this temple as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever." 

Fun fact: In the original Design, there were 36 huge columns and each column signified a state at the time of Lincoln’s death. However, the funny side is that the states were increased to 48 by the time the #Monument was completed. So, you will find the remaining 12 states, outside the memorial wall.

#toddlerseth ready for his #architecture walk this afternoon. We saw 10 buildings and walked from our home to the waterfront. The action was at Holland Hall where it’s #1960s glass block features were being covered up as we looked on!Notice the scaffolding toward the back of the photo. The modern 1960s structure is going to look more like a prison. #modernarchitecture #architectureweek
