Artuš Scheiner (Czech, 1863 - 1938) • Illustration for E.T.A. Hoffmann's novella The Nutcracker and the Mouse King • 1924 • Gouache
" Godfather Drosselmeier has told me of a lovely garden where there is a great lake, upon which beautiful swans swim about, with golden collars around their necks, and sing their sweetest songs. Then there comes a little girl out of the garden down along the lake, and coaxes the swans to the shore, and feeds them with sweet cake. "

Imagine this..
You're a demon working with an angel to watch over a human. You've been with this human since it's first breath, the angel as well.
Of course.. you're trying to get this human to do all the bad things. The angel, for years now, has kept them on the right path.
It was hard to tell, which was more annoying.. that the angel was good at their job or that you found it endearing how much the angel carried for this human.
One day.. your human gets sick. Really sick.. you can't help but worry. Your spade tail hasn't unfurled from between your legs as you and the angel watch over them from the human's bed side.
Human children get sick all the time.. this is normal.. but you.. you worry..
Your hand is clutching against your mouth as you watch your little human take slow breaths. You didn't even realize the tears filling your eyes until the angel wrapped their wing around you.
"They're going to be ok.." the angel promised with that soft voice of theirs, "It's a hard cold. All humans go through it."
"Mhm.." You find yourself leaning into their shoulder as your tail hesitantly wrapped around their calf. The angel rested their hand on your lower back.
The both of you watched over the small human. Though, the angel was clearly caring for you and the human..
You could suppose you were starting to care about the angel, too..

I mean… it’s not a “theory”, some of the earliest descriptions of unicorns literally say they have elephant feet and live in India.
fun fact when somebody mentions unicorns or I read about them somewhere i never imagine those cute lil ponies or precious white graceful beasts.. I imagine huge monstrosity standing about 2,5 m at the shoulder.. and killing anything humanoid except virgins…
Like in that one czech fairy tale…Look at THAT
