Hello all!
I’ve been here for a while and have not yet done an intro post, so while it makes my heart heavy to unpin this post, I felt like I should.
I mostly just scream into the void here, and occasionally the void screams back and talks to me about Yellowjackets so that’s pretty neat
I use he/him, I’m Australian (AEST), and I don’t use tags because I can’t even organise myself to stand up half the time
I’ll occasionally post fanart but mostly it’ll just be reblogging/rambling to myself lol
I’m very nostalgic, it makes up a good 80% of my personality
I love flowers, filmmaking, art rock, vampires, poetry, absurdism & psychedelia
Fandoms/interests under the cut! 🩷
I listen to a LOT of music but my favourites are:
David Bowie
Florence + the Machine
Anaïs Mitchell
Hozier
Picture Parlour
The Last Dinner Party
The Beatles
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
The Doors
The Cranberries
Siouxsie & the Banshees
Chappell Roan
The Cure
PJ Harvey
The Crane Wives
Stevie Nicks
Jefferson Airplane
The Smiths
Movies:
Edward Scissorhands
Dead Poets Society
The Breakfast Club
The Truman Show
Love & Mercy
Labyrinth
Television:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Yellowjackets
Interview With the Vampire
Derry Girls
Blackadder
The Good Place
Deadloch
Daisy Jones & the Six
How I Met Your Mother
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Books:
The Liar’s Dictionary
Jekyll & Hyde
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Anne of Green Gables
Ella Minnow Pea
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Theatre, musical and otherwise:
Hadestown (but I’m a firm believer in concept album superiority)
Sweeney Todd
Les Mis
Jekyll & Hyde
The Producers
Hamilton (not as much anymore but I still love it)
Accidental Death of an Anarchist
Otherwise… I love 60s fashion, I wear a lot of long coats, T.S Eliot and Gwen Harwood are my favourite poets, I love Alphonse Mucha and I have a soft spot for purple carnations
That’s pretty much all!

Australian artist duo Nicole Andrijevic and Tanya Schultz, under their moniker Pip and Pop, create magical installations out of brightly dyed sugar, glitter, and tiny cheap plastic toys. Created in a manner similar to Buddhist Sand Mandalas (whose profound impermanence of their time consuming compositions are meant to be a meditation on the transitory nature of life), Pip and Pop's works jump to 3D territory, oozing past boundaries in a day glo riot of neon and sparkle. Infused with plenty of Kawaii spirit and pop psychedelia, and saturated in the fluorescent colors used in children's toys and head shop posters, these playful yet meticulously-crafted islands of sugar speak to the ideas of material abundance and dreamy nostalgia of youth.

The Alternative Passage
And 2023 gifts us with an October Friday the 13th...our October fright countdown continues with a 1988 song hit single titled " Under the Milky Way" by Australian music band 'The Church'. A neo-psychedelia feel to it. This tune crosses over as a beautifully textured moment.

The Church Album Review: The Hypnogogue
Tumblr media
(Communicating Vessels)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
The Church’s 26th album (and first in 6 years) is, strangely, their first concept record. You’d think the Australian greats’ dreamy, neo psychedelia would be perfect to soundtrack tunes with a narrative arc; alas, this is Steve Kilbey’s first foray into more literal musical storytelling. Yet, he smartly keeps it vague, and secondary to the music itself. The plot is futuristic: A rock star in the 2050s falls in love with a scientist who invents the titular Hypnogogue, a device that pulls thoughts out of your head and makes them into music. Is it a ham-fisted analogy for AI art? Perhaps. But the plot is an effective symbol for being lost in the dream, the limbo between slumber and wide-eyed beginnings that music can achieve. “Remember the music pulled out of your head / Piano trickling into the cans,” Kilbey sings on the title track, “Insulating guitars, reptilian bass / Kick in your face, the snare in your heart.” Flickering guitars make the song epic without being showy, a self-reflexive microcosm of The Hypnogogue as a whole.
In essence, The Hynogogue is a tribute to the sensations we hold most dear. “Your ascension, your reward,” Kilbey repeats on opening track “Ascendence”, showcasing the prototypical buildup of whirring, warbling noise, atmospheric guitars and arpeggiated, chiming synths. On the pulsating, glassy “These Coming Days”, he describes “The wallpaper at your favorite café / The paper flowers in the kitchen / The aromatic pines, the rambling vines” as if they themselves are what bring us life. If the album’s world occupies our worst nightmares, where the intangible can become computerized, humanism replaceable, the band smartly argues against it by creating beauty out of nostalgic sounds. Kilbey’s always Bowie-esque croon is the perfect match for the “All The Young Dudes” guitars of “No Other You”, and his muted vocal overdubs on “Succulent”, atop wobbling synthesizers and stadium-sized guitars, recall Pink Floyd at their headiest. And the sway of “I Think I Knew” and jangly guitars of “C’est La Vie” are The Church at their most beatific and catchy, a straight line from “Under The Milky Way” until now.
At over an hour and most of its songs slow burns, The Hypnogogue is an album that requires patience, but its rewards, sonic and otherwise, are plentiful. “Everyone must want something,” Kilby sighs on “Albert Ross”, and whether that’s the glacial thumps of “Thorn” and “Antarctica” or the baroque melancholy of “Aerodrome”, there are feelings here to occupy every corner of your heart.

The psychedelic experience is integral to the history of the 1960s American underground. This was the era of Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters driving around in their brightly painted bus, indulging in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, swallowing hallucinogenic potions in search of altered mind-states. Bold freethinkers led the nascent psychedelic movement, looking eastwards for esoteric and artistic inspiration.
The first musical whispers of India's burgeoning influence on Western popular music were heard in 1965 when The Beatles George Harrison added the sounds of a sitar to the Rubber Soul album track Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown). Soon everybody from The Yardbirds and The Rolling Stones to Sergio Mendes and The Byrds was reflecting an Indian influence.
During these years in India, drug culture wasn't flooding its shores, but the country was undergoing its own transformation - the 1960s saw the advent of a DIY garage band scene.
Western rock imitations seamed through with raga reverberations began to sound out across the country. The rock-zine Junior Statesmen and the Battle of the Bands competition nights held by Simla Cigarettes at Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai cemented the movement. Soon the seductive sound seeped into Bollywood's output with film composers mixing psych with luxuriously lysergic orchestration. A two-way path of influence bound the music of 1960s India with the West.
When compiling this Rough Guide, DJ Ritu cast her psychedelic net wide into the diaspora and the modern day. This album pays homage to the swinging 1960s history whilst forging the journey onwards into psychedelia's present-day incarnations.
Vintage finds on this album include R.D. Burman's Bollywood hit Dum Maro Dum® from the film Hare Rama Hare Krishna. In the film the protagonist, sung here by the inimitable Asha Bhosle, takes deep drags on a large chillum before dancing floppy limbed amidst a throng of her beatnik friends. Dance Music is another throwback Bollywood number by brother composer duo Kalyanji-Anandji. This instrumental explosion has an irresistibly psych-funk feel with fat trumpets, echoing electric keys and breakneck rhythm.
Other tracks on the album root the listener firmly back in the present day and launches into the music of India's vast diaspora. Sunday Driver are a merry band of musicians based in London and Cambridge. They set out their Indian shades of influence against a backdrop of Sgt. Pepper-ish Victoriana. The Bombay Royale are an eleven-piece Australian band inspired by old school Bollywood soundtracks. Ritu was their support DJ at their recent London date, a bombastic show with a stage set that included a life-size model elephant suspended from the ceiling.
Lose yourself in this collection of far out sounds — soaring sitars, tremulous tabla, distorted deep-set drones and unbound improvisations. all twisted through a rock and roll edge.

Plasma Chasms presents: Solaris
The interstellar concierge guides you to level 2 in the Cosmic Elevator and you step out into Solaris.
Tumblr media
A postmodern psychedelic disco-funk planet with all the glittering disco ball fervor. Groovy electric basslines and the funkiest synth hooks this side of outer space, punctuated by sun soaked guitars and an infectious dance beat.
BIO:
Plasma Chasms formed in 2020 self releasing two singles “Echoes” and “Empty Spaces” prior to catching the eye of independent Australian label The A&R Department. They released their debut Self Titled EP in 2022 . Plasma Chasms have been described as an Indie-Australian meets strong So-Cal vibe. A psychedelic journey that veers from classic indie-pop with a retro, gritty and rhythmic garage tone twist swimming with psychedelic vibes.
Comprised of Australian Jane Drewett and American Adrian Guerrero, Plasma Chasms formed in Los Angeles when Adrian met Jane working in the film and television space and the pair started the project based on mutual appreciation for retro psychedelia and classic rock. . After deciding a few years earlier to step away from writing, Adrian was again feeling the writing bug and shared an early demo of Echoes with Jane. The writing chemistry clicked immediately and they went to work crafting their sound and brand of psychedelia on their first singles. Australian native, Jane, grew up on the East Coast of Australia with an early musical background, transplanting to Los Angeles
Their debut album Chrysalis takes listeners on a journey aboard a cosmic elevator through levels of different psychedelic vibes with each track exploring themes on the expanse of the human condition. This journey expands where the EP left off and creates an existential look into reality. With spacey, neo-vintage psychedelic pop that covers various elements of psychedelia. It’s interwoven with complex music arrangements consisting of melodic guitars, vocal hooks, bass grooves and spacey dreamy synths.
While opting to go nonlinear, the album feels unified taking you on a journey through a distinctive universe, laden with cosmic colour and vocal duets and harmonies that blend into what sometimes feels like a third vocalist. Each song stands out as its own unique identity.

Babe Rainbow Announce New Psychedelic Track “Retrograde”
Tumblr media
Babe Rainbow, an Australian band distinguished by their boogie psychedelia and vintage surf cult visuals, epitomizes “stoner pop.” Formed in 2015 by Jack Crowther (aka Cool Breez), Angus Dowling, and Elliot O’Reilly, the trio initially came together around the snack stands of Rainbow Bay. They were employees of John Cutts, a local cultivator near Tropical Fruit World in Duranbah, NSW, where they worked with kale well before it became a mainstream trend. Their sound, which initially drew heavily on 60’s psychedelia and 70’s French surf-pop, has diversified to include a blend of woodland bop, folk disco, dub, dance, and global rhythms, all while preserving an Aquarian vibe through Dowling’s ethereal vocal style and Cool Breez’s resonant guitar play. Their debut release, The Babe Rainbow EP, was produced in an office space in Murwillumbah and received backing from triple j and Flightless Records, the label of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. In 2017, they launched their first album, produced by Stu Mackenzie, and embarked on an international tour alongside acts like King Gizzard, Allah Las, Tomorrow’s Tulips, and La Femme. After releasing their debut album under 30th Century Records of Columbia in 2017, followed by Double Rainbow (2018) and Today (2019), they completed a three-album contract. Babe Rainbow now controls their music rights and continues to release new material under their independent label, Eureka!, in collaboration with AWAL Music. Nth America Tour: Wolfmother Live at The Eastern!
Wolfmother is an Australian blues rock/hard rock/stoner rock/neo-psychedelia band that formed in 2004. Founding members of Wolfmother consisted of Andrew Stockdale (vocals/guitar), Chris Ross (bass/keyboards), and Myles Heskett (drums). Wolfmother now consists of Andrew Stockdale (vocals/guitar), Jesper Albers (drums), and Paul Dokman (bass) after some lineup movements over the years. They have released six (6) LPs with Rock Out (2021) being the latest release. Wolfmother has many notable and crowd-favorite songs within their discography including “Woman”, “Joker & the Thief”, and “Dimension” to name a few.
On May 9th, 2023, Wolfmother announced on their social media channels that after a long break from touring North America, they were coming back for the Nth America Tour starting September 14h in San Diego, CA. at The Observatory North Park. And concluding on November 29th in Chicago, IL. At Thalia Hall. Lucky for Atlanta, Wolfmother and Fever Dog added The Eastern on November 19th to their tour dates. And I was fortunate enough to be there and show you some of the excitement that transpired.
Fever Dog is a psychedelic rock band from Coachella Valley, California that formed in 2012. After starting as a garage-rock band performing under the name, Snot Rocket, they changed their name as a nod to Cameron Crowe’s hit motion picture Almost Famous. Fever Dog took their name from a song from the fictional band in the movie named Stillwater. Fever Dog consists of Danny Graham (vocals/guitar), Nathan Wood (bass/sound generators), and Joshua Adams (drums/organs/backing vocals). Fever Dog has released three (3) LPs, three (3) singles, and one (1) split with Alpha Waves (2020) being the latest release.
Starting the evening’s festivities, Fever Dog came out to a crowd ready to rock out to some groovy rock’n’roll tunes. Well, Fever Dog delivered just that to the eager crowd. Fever Dog blazed through a scorching set chop full of wicked tracks from their discography like “We Want Action”, “On the Loose”, and “The Demon” for example. Those are a few of my favorite songs from Fever Dog’s rowdy performance this evening at The Eastern. Fever Dog’s pure rock’n’roll energy and vibrant performance won this Concerthopper over.
Check out Fever Dog’s wild set from The Eastern list below:
·         “Freewheelin”
·         “We Want Action”
·         “Hold on You”
·         Guitar solo
·         “On the Loose”
·         “Bruiser!”
·         “The Demon”
·         “Alpha Waves”
Head over to Fever Dog’s Official Bandcamp page and show them some love today! You can also check out Fever Dog’s Linktree for other notable links.
Next up to close out the evening at The Eastern was none other than Wolfmother. The enthusiastic crowd at The Eastern let Wolfmother know how excited they were to see them walk on stage. Starting with one of my favorite tracks, “Dimension”, Wolfmother delivered a career spanning seventeen (17) songs set with an encore that consisted of an unforgettable cover of Led Zepplin’s “Rock and Roll”. It was great to see Andrew, Paul, and Jesper smiling and having fun while performing for the grateful crowd at The Eastern.
Check out Wolfmother’s extended setlist from this tour stop below:
·         “Dimension”
·         “New Moon Rising”
·         “Woman”
·         “White Lincoln”
·         “Rock Out”
·         “Apple Tree”
·         “Pyramid”
·         “Midnight Train”
·         “Colossal”
·         “California Queen”
·         “Vagabond’
·         “Stay a Little Longer”
·         “Rock’n’Roll Survivor”
·         “Gypsy Caravan”
·         “Feelin Love”
·         “Victorious”
·         “Joker & the Thief”
Encore:
·         “Love Train”

Album Review: Dirty Sound Magnet - Dreaming In Dystopia (Wild Thing Records)
It’s a trip that everyone should experience at least once. After all, how do you know if you’ll like it, if you don’t?
The evocative psychedelic rock trio Dirty Sound Magnet will release their new album, Dreaming In Dystopia, on 20th October via Australian label Wild Thing Records. What does psychedelia really mean in the context of music? How can music make you feel as though you’ve taken some odd-looking mushrooms? How can music create vivid colours, dreamy headspaces, and the sense of the soul being separated…

Di., 12.9.2023, 19:00 Uhr: SUNFRUITS (AU) MS Hedi, Hamburg
Sunfruits are a psychedelic pop band from Melbourne. Founded by Winter McQuin, their members include Evie Vlah, Imogen Cygler, Elena Jones and Gene Argiro. Sunfruits live shows revive the 60s psychedelic sounds and visuals with their very own modern 70s rock spin, blending their own twist of modern psychedelia and harmonious pop. Sunfruits have been making waves around Melbourne and the Australian music scene for the past 3 years with their environmentally conscious and politically aware lyricism, paired with their contemporary psychedelic pop sound. On 2021 release, ‘Certified Remixes’ saw the band collaborate with Traffik Island, Hachiku and Candy on three remixes of previously released tracks ‘Above The Clouds’, ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ and ‘Whatever You Want’. Releasing two 7”s and an EP during their time working with Third Eye Stimuli Records and recently Flightless Records (Distro), these releases all received high praise from Triple J, Clash Magazine, Beat Magazine, Tone Deaf, New Commute and more. Sunfruits have collaborated with brands including Bonsoy on their 2020 release double single ‘Mushroom Kingdom / Bonsoy’ as well as Green Music Australia on their 2020 debut EP ‘Certified Organic’. These releases saw the talented live group appear at festivals including NYE On The Hill, Ok Motels, Euroa Music Festival, Brunswick Music Festival and supporting acts including Mildlife, Nice Biscuit, Gabriella Cohen, Good Morning, Cable Ties, as well as multiple headline tours of the east coast of Australia. Their most recent ‘Made To Love’ sees Sunfruits showcase an exciting new direction and their most definitive work to date. Garnering acclaim from The Guardian, Tone Deaf, Pilerats, New Commute, triple j, PBS, RRR and more, this track sets the tone for what is still to come, we can expect to see the band reach new heights.
