Said before but it bears repeating: by the time Simon explicitly says “Baz could have anyone he wants” it’s not nearly the first time he’s expressing he feels this way, even if he doesn’t realize.

In CO, when he’s still trying to convince himself (because he is actively trying to convince himself) that he wants the comphet endgame, and he’s jealous because Baz is apparently going after Agatha, it’s never once “of course Agatha attracts attention, look at her, who wouldn’t want her?” Never! It should be, if he ever wanted her like that, and yet. The one time he’s trying to tell himself he wants her, he gives an example that’s not about actually wanting her romantically or being into her, but about projecting things into her beauty (strength and protection!) and about imagining himself in her shoes (imagining how it is to be that beautiful, etc). Instead, attraction and romantic desire is always about Baz. “Of course she would want Baz, who wouldn’t? Look at him. Just Baz being himself is enough to make him attractive and romantically desirable” …. It’s one of the many early signs that Simon is already into Baz long before CO starts, that his romantic jealousy is only about him (and always has been) and he wasn’t into Agatha at any point (comphet)

I read this and immediately thought “this is so Baz” and then remembered Baz basically says this on page after Simon kisses him because he put butter on his sandwich

Day 29 ⁘ Massive

Simon’s chest is wider than mine and softer, and his pectoral muscles actually bulge—it used to be from all the sword work, but now I think it’s the wings. His chest hair is so sparse, it looks accidental.

For keen observers, yes I did already draw them in these same wedding suits, except I found a kick ass Dolce and Gabbana jacket with roses that inspired an addition to Baz’s and gave him a floral shirt to match. Thanks to the Emergency Dance Party crew for weighing in on what 11yo Baz would have worn to Watford on his first day.

thinking about how baz’s love is self destructive i mean all his fantasies regarding simon when he was younger were self destructive like the biggest act of love simon could show baz was killing him and how baz’s biggest act of love he could show his mother was him killing himself bc he was a vampire and she would never love him like that and he wanted her to love him and how he would rather be hungry than eat in front of his family bc of his fangs and he wanted his family to love him and they would never love him if they saw he’s a vampire and how like the first thing he thought after finding out he didn’t need to kill to have blood and that he could retract his fangs was calling his father bc then his father would love him
