GraveRipper - Season Dreaming Death (2023)

Thom Wells takes a look at Season Dreaming Death, the upcoming album from CDM favourites, Indianapolis blackened thrash metal act Graveripper, set for release on August 25th with our good friends over at Wise Blood Records.

I feel like a massive metal renaissance is going on, and there are so many great bands out there that I feel spoiled by the riches of it all. Take GraveRipper, for example. Season Dreaming Death is yet another fantastic release this year. If you are reading this review, you should pay serious attention to this band. After listening to the first song, I was hooked and pre-ordered the record. Trust me when I say it doesn’t happen often when I hear just one song and buy the record.

Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags

This is a fucking ride. Hellripper is put together by one guy named James McBain, and it is fucking amazing. This is some of the highest quality speed or thrash metal I've heard in a long time. The solos on this are absolutely fucking insanely flesh meltingly fast and the drums and bass are doing an amazing job supporting this heavy melodic riff fest. The fact that all of this was put together by one person is just absolutely insane. I'm usually not the biggest fan of anything that is just pure thrash as a certified Slayer hater, but this record has the perfect mixture of black and speed that makes my ears perk the fuck up. On top of genuinely amazing composition and performance from the instruments, James McBain absolutely rocks these vocals. They're so powerful and his voice never wavers holding some of these long screams. Just a fucking heavy as shit record and a great listen. Highly recommend.

Knife – Heaven Into Dust (2023)

Thom Wells looks at Heaven Into Dust, the new album from Germany black/thrash/speed metal act KNIFE, released August 25th on Napalm Records.

Knife has another amazing release with “Heaven Into Dust”. If you haven’t already heard of Knife, think old-school 80s Teutonic Thrash, with a little bit of blackened spice for your listening pleasure. For fans of Municipal Waste and Goatwhore, this will be right up your alley. Straight up fast, angry, punishing thrash with spikes and leather. This album will help you see why Knife is one of those bands that are on my auto-buy list.
