Whitby Goth Weekend 2025

April 2025 at the Royal Hotel in Whitby, Revenant opened with many of the old faces from the original Whitby Goth Weekend. Contrary to popular believe, itâs never been about filling the streets of Whitby with people in fancy-dress costumes, top hats with cogs glued to them and Victorian finery, it was actually about music.
So, here we are, three nights of live music and three DJâs hosted by local celebrity Soraya Vivian, three nights, three amazing headliners backed up by a host of live bands.

Cave Dweller Conclave â Praising Priest (Double Feature)

We are long-time fans of Priest here at Cave Dweller Music. We have covered them before, and at least a couple of us listen to them quite a bit. If you havenât heard of Priest, they are a Swedish outfit hailing from Stockholm, bringing industrial, synth-heavy darkwave with abundant 1980s sci-fi influences, among others. If youâre a fan of the cyberpunk genre, or of the outrun aka synthwave style that has been popular in the last decade, youâre sure to enjoy Priest. Stevie and Yari have decided to celebrate the darkness, variety and intensity that Priest have brought to the table with 2022âs Body Machine and 2024âs Dark Pulse.

Collapsed Vein - Pain Communion (2025)

Tom Hanno of Tom's Reviews looks at Pain Communion, the debut album from Kalispell, Montana based death doom solo project Collapsed Vein, released April 18, 2025 on Executioner213 Recordings.
Collapsed Vein is a one-man Death-Doom project based in Montana, created by Kevin George. Pain Communion is this projects debut album, and it explores themes of mortality, isolation, and religious decay, all while blending slow, crushing, relentless Doom with pipe organs, choirs, and an immersive atmosphere.

21st Century Noise Rock: Overstimulation Has A New Form

On Friday night I finally ticked The Jesus Lizard off of my bucket list, this coincided with a two week run where a number of my favourite new generation noise rock bands dropped new albums and singles. That made me realise how much amazing noise rock has been released and continues to be released since the genreâs initial golden age in the 90s.
So, over the past 24 hours Iâve put together a list of some of my favourite new artists to grace the genre since the year 2000. Please note that this is just a list of artists that came to mind over the past 24 hours and are in no particular order. Iâm also aware that I probably missed a number of great acts that deserve to be on the list. If you arenât familiar with noise rock as a genre or youâre only familiar with the 90s pioneers, then you are definitely in for a treat.

Ministry â The Squirrelly Years Revisited (2025)

In this Sounds and Shadows republication, Jaret S . Young looks at The Squirrelly Years Revisited, the latest album from Industrial metal legends Ministry, featuring re-recorded versions of songs from the bandâs early years. Released March 28, 2025 on Cleopatra Records.
Those who are familiar with the early material (including myself) probably cannot help but compare these new versions to the originals. But, to be fair, Al Jorgensen and Co. didnât try to reinvent the wheel on these songs. They just gave them a little extra âoomph!â. Beefed up guitars and a heavier-hitting drums reign prominently throughout the album.

çźäșș â æ·«ç„ (2025)
James looks at æ·«ç„, the new album from Chinese power electronics, harsh noise, ritual ambient, folk, black metal artist æ·«ç„, released January 1, 2025.
æ·«ç„ isnât so much an album as it is a sonic journey into the darkest depths of Chinese folk magic. It makes sense that there is something genuinely menacing about this allbum, a darkness that was very intentionally woven into the very fabric of this music. It takes the listener far away from their actual lives and transports them to a foggy hillside in rural China, where a dark ritual is about to be performed. This esoteric journey takes on the form of power electronics, harsh noise and most importantly, Pagan inspired ritual ambient, with heavy folk and black metal influences.

The Dear Hunter â Ring 8 â Poverty (2022)

In a new series devoted to his 2022 album of the year, Yari reviews âRing 8 â Poverty,â the opening track from The Dear Hunterâs 2022 album Antimai, exploring its dystopian ringed society narrative and rich instrumentation.
Antimaiâs debut song drops you into the desperate zone of Ring 8, where pounding drums, funky horns, and a wholly fresh sound underscore a story of poverty, hope, and the harsh reality of life as a refugee.
