Art Night & Peak: Alberta Whittle

Art Night and Peak will present film works by Barbadian-Scottish artist Alberta Whittle at Platfform 2, new project spaces at Abergavenny Railway Station in the Welsh Borders. 

Alberta’s work invites us to reflect on ‘contested histories, climate colonialism, trauma and healing’ on a key Welsh transport artery with its historic links to border conflict, industry and extraction economies. Alberta Whittle is a Barbadian-Scottish artist who works across film, sculpture, print, installation and performance. She lives and works in Glasgow. She was the winner of the Margaret Tait Award in 2018, the Frieze Artist Award 2020 and received a Turner Prize bursary, also in 2020. Alberta Whittle will represent Scotland at the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2022.

Curated by Helen Nisbet, Art Night 2021 marks the festival’s fifth edition. To celebrate this, Art Night will be extending its run-time to a full month of night-time events from 18 June to 18 July (coinciding with the Summer Solstice), that will be taking place throughout the country.
