Tony Oliva, Former Minnesota Twins Baseball Star, Finally Honored in Cuba
At a January 10, 2024, semifinal game of the Il Elite Cuba Baseball League in Havana, Tony Oliva, the former Minnesota Twins baseball star and a resident of Minnesota, was honored for the first time since he left Cuba in 1962. [1] The small number of  fans present at that game reacted with reluctance to the announcement that the former star player was going to throw the first ball at that game…

Anthony Volpe gets the play of the game with his RBI single that tied the game in the 5th. Since that inning, Anthony, along with the other Anthony, got a spectacular out in the bottom of the 9th to get the game into extra innings. He's been on base 3 times tonight and is one of the reasons that we're still in this game!! I love Anthony Volpe!!! ❤️ He's a future ball of famer as far as I can see. He got a gold glove in his time year, and he's just getting started. I believe in Anthony Volpe 🙏🏼 LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!

RIP. Legendary Willie Mays died of heart failure at age 93.
Mays ranks secy behind only Babe Ruth on most all-time lists, including those of The Sporting News and ESPN.
He was the league's Hall of Famer (HOF), two-time Most Valuable Player, 24-time All-Star, a World Series champion with the New York Giants in 1954 and baseball's oldest living HOF when he died.

Tumblr media

" New Zealand singer-songwriter, Lorde (whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor), cited a National Geographic image as the inspiration behind her chart topper, “Royals.”
“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs,” Lorde said in an interview with VH1. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’”

Aaron Judge is okay!!! Yippee cayay motherfucker!! 🤗😁😍 He said that there a little swelling, but he's feeling better already. He said that he hopes to be in the game tomorrow. He was asked about the death of Willie Mays and he said some beautiful things about him. Like me, Willie was a hero to Aaron when he was a kid. The best comment he made in regard to Willie Mays was that he was a great player, but the man was bigger than baseball. That says it all so perfectly!! He made me cry because he put into words what I've been feeling but couldn't say. He said that Willie taught him some stuff about baseball when he was a kid and that he wanted to grow up to play just like him. Well, Aaron... you should be very proud and very happy because you're doing just that. You're right up there with Willie. You, too, are one of the greats!! I love Willie Mays, and I love Aaron Judge. They are two of the greatest players to have ever graced the field, but much more importantly, they are two of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. RIP, Willie. Get better, Aaron. I hope to see you in the game tomorrow. Gerrit Cole is pitching tomorrow night!!! I can't wait. I've missed him so much. It always impresses me when a great athlete like Aaron, Willie, and Gerrit are also such kind, caring, beautiful human beings like these great men are. They are heroes on and off the field. I love these guys sooooooo much. They have given me a great gift in baseball. It is a thrill and a pleasure to watch them kick ass. Let's go Yankees!!!!!

Long, overdue good news: Negro League statistics will be integrated into MLB historical record!
Stats from the more than 2,300 players from seven iterations of the Negro Leagues from 1920-1948 will be included in the MLB’s database — including legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Josh Gibson, who will become the single-season record holder in batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS. Previous record holders for those three categories were Barry Bonds, Ty Cobb, and Babe Ruth.
