This is one of the largest hanging baskets I've ever seen. Of course, the landlord can afford it - welcome to Vancouver's financial district. When the first tower (on the right) opened on Burrard Street in 1967, at 22 stories, it dominated the downtown skyline. Now it's just another boring, 'ultra-modern office block', amongst a crowd of later arrivals. However, this building does have one redeeming feature - this beautiful hanging basket out front. I think it's a floral masterpiece!

Topic: E1 - Client Brief (Animation).
This piece of animation is to be published on social media platforms as part of a campaign to promote the opening of the Santa’s Grotto at the Bentall Centre located in the Kingston Town centre as part of their Christmas celebrations for the festive season. Its main target audience is to be focused on young children aged between 4-6. After researching, I decided this would be a good event to meet the criteria as well as trying to create a link amongst the three pieces (Animation, Audio Tour & Photo Essay) using the Christmas theme and the Kingston town centre as a connection to get the extra markings available. I decided to use a 3D object – a Santa Claus figure – and use my iPhone with a mini tripod. I then used extra lighting and a Toner LCD Tripod Ring device trying to produce a bright animation rather than having a poor lit animation as a result. I then used the Stop Motion Studio app to create the animation itself. It was set as a 5-frame per second project with a square ratio, resulting in a 10 seconds stop-motion video animation ideal to be published on social media. I then used in-app features to add a background and an audio-clip to it. In the future I would like to explore different audio clip options as well as other complete different storyboards.

VMF Winter Arts brings Land and Light to the City February 16-26
The dark and dreary winter days are about to get brighter as VMF Winter Arts returns February 16-26, 2023.  Transforming downtown Vancouver into an interactive open-air gallery and celebration of public art and entertainment. Produced by VMF (the team behind Vancouver Mural Festival), the free, 3rd annual festival brings together local and international public art with live experiences—including music, tours, talk, dance parties, food and drink—to connect, reflect and celebrate our city and its diverse communities.
Tumblr media
VMF Winter Arts 2022 - Hub - Photo: Credit VMF/Gabriel Martins With the theme of Land and Light, VMF Winter Arts 2023 is bringing together art, technology, and celebration.  Light becomes a creative force in the city and an invitation to consider the relationship to the land—as stewards, settlers, immigrants, visitors, and guests. In the hands of artists, light becomes a medium to illuminate, transform, and share their individual and collective visions for a shared future. Over the festival’s 11 days, free art and entertainment can be discovered along the VMF Winter Arts route from the Vancouver Art Gallery, along Burrard Street including Bentall Centre, to Canada Place. The festival’s central live celebration site will be the Winter Arts Hub. Located at šxw???n?q Xwtl'e7én? Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza), the Winter Arts Hub offers an inclusive, free, family-friendly outdoor space featuring a licensed bar, rotating food trucks, interactive art, and a covered festival stage featuring daily live performances. Additional art can also be experienced while enjoying the Robson Square Ice Rink next door. New this year is VMF After Dark, a series of late night pop-up parties in a fully-transformed creative space at Bentall Centre. Dubbed the Bentall Centre Gallery, the site will host art and a licensed all-ages NFT Gallery and Lounge by day, then transform into a 19+ event space on weekend nights. Each of the five ticketed After Dark parties will feature entertainment curated by a different group from the local music scene, providing festival goers with an opportunity to continue dancing after the nearby Winter Arts Hub closes for the night. The festival’s public art highlights will include laser light animation, augmented reality, sculptures and more by local and international artists. At the core of VMF’s values is a commitment to supporting and showcasing diversity in all its forms. Through art and events, VMF creates inclusive experiences that connect and reflect our city’s many cultures and communities, while inviting all to participate, regardless of background. This commitment is woven across Winter Arts’ visual and performance artist line-up and programming. This winter, multimedia artist Tafui will curate Present, an exhibition bringing together audio, visual and spoken word artists. Through laser animation and live performances, ‘Present’ will tell stories that highlight the creativity of the African and Caribbean diaspora.

Audio Recording Reflection - Digital Media Foundations
For my audio recording I decided to promote The Christmas Shop located on the bottom floor of the Bentall’s Centre. The Christmas Shop is a store that recently opened following the festive season. Now that we are approaching Christmas, many families are looking to decorate their homes and get in the Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed walking through Kingston town centre and looking for a place to promote. I easily found a store in particular that I gravitated towards. The most nerve wracking part about my audio recording was having to record my voice because like many people I’m not a fan of hearing my own voice. Due to my past experience with Audacity I felt confident in editing my audios and mixing them together. However, something I realised while editing the audios was that the audio I recorded of the store was very chaotic due to the fact that there were about 3 different sounds of music playing in the store at the same time. Unfortunately I did not know how to mute or maybe even decrease the volume of certain sounds while maintaining the sounds that I wanted present in the audio and I hope that throughout this course I can learn different techniques or different formats that could help me achieve this. Overall I have learned how to better utilise audacity to create one blended audio from different audio files. And in the future I plan on learning more about how to isolate certain sounds from an audio and how to edit out unnecessary sounds.

Vancouver police say the actions of officers involved in an anti-pipeline demonstration Friday are under review.
In an emailed statement, VPD spokesperson Tania Visintin said police received multiple complaints from occupants and businesses in the Bentall Centre Friday, regarding safety concerns and access in and out of the tower.
The building's management asked police to move the protestors out by end of day, but protestors resisted and fought with police, said Visintin.
The Braided Warriors however, say protesters were peacefully occupying the offices of AIG Insurance, calling on the company to stop backing the pipeline project and "stop insuring genocide against Indigenous peoples" — when VPD officers moved in.
Video posted online appears to show an officer pulling a protester out of the building by the hair and throwing them to the ground.
"We were violently thrown to the ground, dragged across floors and down stairways, pulled by the hair and braid, thrown to a surface covered in glass, strangled in a chokehold, or dragged face down on concrete," according to the group's statement.

Voice Recording:
I recorded the background sound in Kingston town centre, it was evening time, so it wasn’t busy, I didn’t get too much rush time noise, but I recorded some sounds of the atmosphere in Kingston so the sounds of people or cars or motorbike. We had a task to make 30 second voice recording promoting Kingston town centre attractions, so I recorded 10 seconds atmosphere sounds in Kingston town centre when it was not too busy. I recorded voice over for about 20 seconds promoting the attractions. I edited both of the recording (voice and atmosphere) sounds to explain the background sound. I also talked about Kingston town centre and the number of attractions for students or families or friends’ activities, for example, shopping in Bentall’s centre, a big shopping centre, or Primark, JD, etc. I talked about places to eat for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. I tried to fit everything in 20 seconds because I didn’t want to go over the limit, we got which is 30 seconds, including the background sound. I added background music to the whole video to add more content to match the voice-over I did. The music makes it specific to what I am going to talk. The voice-over sounds better with the music, so the audience knows what the voice recording is. I added the music used to promote attractions, so the voice-over seems more interesting to listen to for the audience.
