Time Away
Pairings: Ethan Ramsey x Victoria Clarke
Word Count: 2k
Summary: After the attack, Victoria heads back to New York
Rating: Teen
Category: Angst, Fluff
Tumblr media
The flight was very quick, probably not the most environmentally friendly way to travel back home but Victoria didn’t care at this particular moment. She needed to see her family, however quickly she could get to New York was important.
Victoria grabbed her bag and headed into the arrivals lounge. She scanned the room looking for two familiar faces. Victoria spotted them smiling at her and she rushed over to them.
She wrapped her arms around her Mom, tears rolling down her face. Her warmth felt so familiar, she would never be too old for a hug from her Mom.
“You okay?” Jane asked.
Victoria smiled. “I am now.”
Jane pressed a kiss to the side of Victoria’s head, tears shining brightly in her own eyes as she gave her daughter one last hug.
“Hey kiddo.” Michael smiled as he hugged Victoria. She held on a little longer than usual, the new norm now given what she had been through. “How was your flight?”
“Ok.” Victoria replied.
Jane and Michael looked at Victoria with concern. They always got more out of Victoria. The one word answer made them anxious.
Not wanting to press further, they nodded and headed to the car. It was a quick journey home, Victoria didn’t talk much and kept her eyes looking out the window but glanced away to look at her phone. A small smile lit up on her face when she saw Ethan had text her.
She wished he was with her. Holding her hand, proving a gentle comfort to her. Instead there was miles between them, with only FaceTime to use.
The car pulled into the driveway in Westchester and Victoria climbed out.
“I’ve made you your favourite dinner.” Jane said as they headed into the house.
“Burgers?” Victoria laughed.
“With extra gherkins. Just how you like it.” Jane smiled.
“Your brother and sister will be coming over tomorrow. They got the day off work.” Michael said.
“And the kids?”
“Them too. They can’t wait to see you.”
“Me neither. I’m just gonna call Ethan and then I’ll come and eat dinner.” Victoria said. She headed into the living room and pressed dial on her phone.
“Glad to hear you got to New York ok.” Ethan said when he answered.
“It feels weird being here. I wish you were with me.” Victoria sighed.
“I know you do. I wish that too. I think the time at home will do you good. And we can talk everyday, whenever you want.” Ethan smiled.
“Thank you. I better go. Mom has made dinner.”
“Alright? Do you want to talk before you go to sleep?”
“No, I’ll be okay I promise. I love you.” Victoria replied.
“I love you too.”
The call ended and Victoria sighed. These few weeks we’re gonna be tough without him. Victoria wasn’t sure she could make it.
Tumblr media
The next day was emotionally exhausting for Victoria. She appreciated her family all showing their support but all she wanted to do was get into bed and pull the duvet over her, shut out the rest of the world until she felt like saying hello again.
She tried to make small talk but everyone could see she wasn’t in the mood for talking. She had appreciated her niece and nephew giving her lots of cuddles, they definitely made her feel better.
She was now laying on her bed, having opted for an early night. Although Victoria wasn’t asleep, her brain unwilling to switch off, nightmares swimming around in her head. She glanced at the clock on her bedside cabinet. 2:56am.
Everything over the last few weeks has been playing on her mind. She felt guilty being back home, everyone in Boston was still grieving and here she was, hiding away in her childhood home from everyone who cared.
Am I being selfish? Should I be with everyone? What must everyone think of me?
A strangled cry left her throat, Victoria tried her best to suppress it but it was no use. One tear rolled down after another until she was a sobbing mess on her bed. She clutched her childhood teddy, trying to draw some comfort from it but it was no use.
She was broken, and she needed help. And help came in one particular tall form.
She missed him so much. She needed him here. Laying beside her, he would help her with all her worries. Victoria grabbed her phone. Would he be awake? Was he thinking of her in the same way she was thinking of him?
Victoria found his name in her phone and dialled the number. It didn’t take long for him to pick up.
“Victoria?” Ethan’s voice, groggy from sleep said.
“Ethan? I’m sorry if I woke you. I just needed to hear your voice.” Victoria trembled.
“It’s okay. Take a deep breath. I wasn’t really asleep. What’s wrong?” Ethan asked.
“I can’t do this. I miss you so much. I thought I’d be okay. That I’d have my family around me to help me. But all I want is you. Your warmth and comfort. I had a nightmare. ” Victoria began to cry again.
“Oh Vic.” Ethan sighed. “I’m so sorry. I should be there with you.”
“No it’s okay. You need to work. I should’ve called earlier yesterday evening. I’ll be okay as long as we can do that.”
“Of course we can. You don’t have to ask. You can call me whenever. You know that. Try and get some sleep and call me tomorrow.” Ethan said.
“Okay. As long as you’re not busy at work.” Victoria said.
“Victoria that’s not a problem. When you need me, I’ll be there.”
“Okay. I’ll try and get some sleep now.” Victoria said.
“I love you so much. Just know that.”
Victoria smiled. “I love you too. Thank you for being there for me.”
“Always.” Ethan said before the call ended.
Victoria put her phone down and tried to close her eyes, she pictured happy thoughts, of the upcoming future she would now have with Ethan. How they could finally be a couple out in the world for everyone to see. They were each others forever now.
Victoria figured she must’ve fallen asleep for a bit as the clock now said 4:19am. She couldn’t go back to sleep so she got up and put her dressing gown. Just as she secured it, her phone buzzed. It was Ethan.
Come outside.
Victoria furrowed her eyebrows. What did he mean? She got up and headed downstairs, pulling the curtain back.
She was sure her eyes were deceiving her because out the window, a figure was stood by his car. And he looked suspiciously like Ethan.
Victoria hurried to the front door and flung it open. Her eyes weren’t deceiving her. There was Ethan. Messy hair and clothes looking like they had just been thrown on and a small smile on his face.
Victoria found herself running towards him and she flung herself into his arms, his own tightening around her as he held her close. She broke down in tears as she buried her face into his shoulder.
“What are you doing here?” Victoria asked as she pulled away.
“You need me, so here I am. I can stay for four days. Naveen said it was okay.” Ethan smiled.
“But it’s the middle of the night!” Victoria wiped her eyes.
“Which meant I could get here quicker. Although I’ll probably have to check my bag in the morning. I just threw some clothes in.” Ethan laughed as he grabbed his bag.
“It’s so good to see you. I’m glad you’re here.” Victoria smiled.
Ethan pressed a firm kiss to Victoria’s lips. “Me too.” He picked up his bag and took Victoria’s hand.
They headed into the house, a shadowy figure was stood on the stairs.
“What’s going on Tori? I heard the front door open.” Jane asked. When she saw Ethan, she raised an eyebrow. “Ethan? What are you doing here?”
“I asked him to come Mom. I know it’s the middle of the night, but I needed him.” Victoria replied.
“I’m sorry to disturb you Mrs Clarke.” Ethan said.
“No need to apologise Ethan. And please call me Jane. I’ll see you both in the morning.” Jane smiled heading back to bed.
Victoria led Ethan to her bedroom. He got dressed into some pyjamas and climbed into bed with her, wrapping his arms around her.
“I can’t believe you’re really here.” Victoria yawned as she tried to stay awake.
Ethan pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “It’s real Vic. Get some sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up.”
Victoria snuggled into his embrace, soon drifting off into a deep sleep. For the first time in days, she slept soundly, Ethan’s arms proving the best comfort.
Tumblr media
It was a few days since Ethan had arrived and Victoria’s mood had massively changed. Just being with Ethan had made her much happier, everyone could see it. Today was his last day and Ethan was due to leave in an hour. Victoria was soaking up as many cuddles as possible.
Spending time with him in her hometown had been amazing. Her family had gotten to know him better and they all loved him, just like she did. They spent time visiting all the places Victoria used to hang out, the parks she went to, the cafes and restaurants she loved. She was sad that he was going to go home back to Boston.
“Do you really have to go?” Victoria tightened her arms around him.
Ethan chuckled. “I don’t want to. But there’s only so long Naveen can hold the fort for.”
“He wouldn’t mind. He’s so happy that we’re finally together, he’ll probably let you stay off for a bit longer.” Victoria shrugged.
“For some reason I don’t want to give him the satisfaction of doing that. As much as I want him to.” Ethan smiled.
Victoria sat up and looked at him. “I’ve really enjoyed you being here. I wish you could stay longer.”
Ethan took her hands in his. “Me too. Everyone’s been telling me how much your mood has changed since I arrived. It makes me happy knowing that I have helped in some way.”
Victoria pressed a kiss to his hand. “You have. I think going forward I’ll be okay, so long as I’ve got you by my side.”
“Forever and always Vic.” Ethan smiled.
The couple laid in each others arms, talking about the future and everything that was heading their way.
Ethan checked his watch. “I should get going.” He pressed a kiss to Victoria’s forehead.
Victoria stood up. “Let’s get this over with. In a nice way. The longer we stall, the more upset I’ll become.” She smiled through tears.
The couple headed out where Ethan said goodbye to Victoria’s parents. They walked out the front door to the car, Ethan put his bag in the car.
“I’ll call you when I get home.” Ethan said, wrapping his arms around her.
“Drive safely.” Victoria said.
“Of course.” Ethan smiled. He leaned in and pressed a lingering kiss to her lips, prolonging the moment for as long as possible. “I love you.” He whispered as he broke away.
“I love you too.” Victoria replied, burying her face into his neck for one last hug. Knowing she would have to let go, Victoria extracted herself from Ethan and let him get in the drivers seat.
Reluctantly, Ethan got in the car, giving one last glance to the woman he loved before staring the engine and driving away. Victoria stayed rooted to the spot until she couldn’t see the car anymore and then headed back indoors.
“Are you okay?” Jane asked.
“Yeah I am. I’m glad he came. I feel a lot better.” Victoria replied.
“He’s good for you. Your Dad and I are glad you’ve found someone like him.” Jane smiled.
“I know he is.” Victoria smiled.
Going forward Victoria knew she had the best people. With them by her side she could make it through anything that life threw at her.
Tumblr media
I figured this was long enough instead of including what Ethan and Victoria got up to. Maybe I’ll do a separate fic, let me know your thoughts!

A powerful storm caused trees to topple in NYC
Heavy rain and strong winds caused numerous downed trees in New York City, leaving many residents without power. However, the prompt action of the crews, who began removing the trees early Thursday morning, reassured the residents that their power would be restored and streets would be open to traffic soon. This storm left streets littered with debris, and trees crashed down on cars, closing down streets and knocking out power for many. Due to the severe weather conditions, the New York City Parks Department received 95 reports of downed trees citywide. As of Thursday morning, about 3500 Bronx residents are without power, and in Westchester, nearly 10,000 customers are without power. Wind gusts also brought a tree down on another car on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Despite these challenges, the crews' prompt action instills confidence in the city's ability to recover swiftly.

like happiness.
pairing: noah x female mc (harley blanco)
summary: she assumes that’s what he’s practicing now; recipes he’s perfected a hundred times over. in this respect, good enough will never be good enough for him. he has more drive than most give him credit for, and without that drive, baby jane’s would be nothing more than a thought scribbled down on a notepad.
word count: 1.5k.
author’s note: sometimes you decide that since you’ve written TWO angsty things, you should probably try and write something a tad bit fluffier. i wrote this fic on the bus this morning after being stuck at a red light by a diner, not gonna sugarcoat that at all, but i hope you all enjoy! i apologize for any grammar / sentence structure issues, as i tried to proofread the best i could, and thank anyone who takes the time to read! feedback in any form is deeply appreciated!
disclaimer: i do not own these characters (except harley). creative liberty has been taken to make this story unique, and i do not intend to use it for profit in any way.
She’s seated at a small two-top table by the window, her hair done up in a messy bun that practically screamed “hey, pal, take a number”. Her uniform consists of a pair of jeans, an old Pink Floyd t-shirt, and a black waist apron that will no doubt one day contain a whole gaggle of quirky pins to accompany her name tag.
“Harley Blanco, Assistant Manager”, soon to read “Harley Marshall, Assistant Manager”. That is, of course, if you ask about the ring on her finger. That’s what she assumes many of her customers will be doing mid-order. Despite the established grandeur of her title - she’s much more excited to wait tables than she is to do actual managerial duties.
Normally, she would be more than happy to talk about her engagement, but with the diner slated to open in only a week, all last minute paperwork was her first priority. The same went for her fiancé, who was no doubt elbow deep in some greasy vat in the back of the restaurant. Harley had half a mind to call on Dan for help, but Noah had insisted that this was a job for them, so she let him be. What they have to do is overwhelming, but both agree that the business-culinary school tag team system they’d developed was their smartest idea ever.
That, and the soon-to-be-implemented $5.00 burger night.
Harley chews absentmindedly at the cap on her pen, flipping through document after document, scribbling down a reminder to order an extra shipment of kids menus. Every time she sets aside a paper for Noah to sign, the impending grand opening seems realer. After everything she’s been through, it makes her head spin. She arches her back and flops back down on the table, using the mound of folders as a headrest. The lazy sunlight coaxes her into a nap.
“Shoot!” exclaims a voice amidst a clatter from the kitchen. Harley turns her head, opening a heavy eye to the direction of the noise.
“Noah?!” she calls. “What did you do?”
She waits and listens for a response. As silence hangs in the air, she shrugs and stares back down at yet another order form.
It’s the second she turns away that Noah then pokes his head out of the kitchen door, his long hair suspended by a hairnet. As usual, he speaks with the kind of suspense that only a young man of few words can. “American or cheddar?”
“What?” Harley squints in his direction.
“American or cheddar? Y’know, like the cheeses?”
“You’re asking me?”
“Which one you like more, yeah.”
Harley clicks the pen in thought. “Provolone.”
“You’re impossible.” Noah huffs, shaking his head and disappearing back behind the door. The sound of the slightly stunted open and close of a refrigerator door follows.
She can’t help but laugh at the way they are now. It’s as if they’ve been painting a picture for years and have finally discovered a revolutionary new color that has made their lives significantly more vibrant. Either that, or they’ve finally mastered the art of communication. The steady hand of telling the person you’ve loved since you were children that maybe, just maybe, they make your heart beat a little faster than it should. It makes her feel full inside.
Baby Jane’s is slated to become some sort of semi-touristy spot. Nestled in the heartseed of spooky Oregon is the workplace of the “once dead girl”, a place that just happens to be owned by the once-supposed accessory to her murder, now more affectionately known as her lover. She has cue cards ready for possible questions curious customers will ask her.
Harley can tell that Noah hates it. The situation is behind them, the world finally spinning on its axis again, and yet people still find a way to remind them.
“I don’t want this place to be famous for who we are!” he once told her. It was a particularly hard day, and Harley can remember him nearly ripping a recipe card in half at the diner counter. “I want it to be known for the stuff we serve. The things we do now!”
Her response was simple. An affectionate kiss to the cheek, a calm “Then you cook so good that they’ll have no choice but to talk about anything but what they ate.”
She assumes that’s what he’s practicing now; recipes he’s perfected a hundred times over. In this respect, good enough will never be good enough for him. He has more drive than most give him credit for, and without that drive, Baby Jane’s would be nothing more than a thought scribbled down on a notepad.
Her mind wanders to the beginning of this chapter of their adventure. It hadn’t started when she had finally convinced herself to go to business school (she had never been sure of what she wanted to do after high school), but rather back at Britney’s party when he unexpectedly pitched the idea of the diner to her. He’s the same boy, but with higher hopes and a nicer, state-of-the-art grill to mull over.
It’s all for Jane, she reminds herself as she reopens a folder for evaluation. A smile worms its way onto her face when she remembers the story Noah had told her about Jane’s first grilled cheese - the thing that made him want to cook. Despite not being there, Harley can picture the scene perfectly, right down to the kitchen she had spent so much time in as a child. She can see Noah using a chair as a stool to reach the lower left burner. She can see the heel of a loaf of bread discarded, resting off to the side with an overturned pepper shaker. She can see Jane’s cheesy smile, both literally and figuratively, as she exclaims what the gourmet sandwich tastes like. She can hear her voice as she says it.
Like happiness.
A warmth spreads through her as the sunset peeks through the large windows of the near-vacant diner, and Harley sighs as it hugs her tight. Since beginning again, she has a new appreciation for her own happiness. Being alive makes her feel as if she’s swallowed a ray of sunlight. Being in these moments make her feel like the light itself.
So lost in her own mind, Harley doesn’t even notice the hairnet-clad figure approaching her from across the room until he sets down a plate before her. The clink! of the dish against the counter garners her attention, and she turns to see Noah sitting tiredly in the chair beside her, eyeing her instead of Main Street Westchester at sundown. He gracelessly pulls the hairnet from his head, scratching behind his ear as he does so. There’s a grilled cheese and nothing else before her.
“Is this for me?” she asks sleepily, giving him a small smile as she goes to grab the sandwich.
“Maybe.” he teases.
Her eyebrows quirk up. “Provolone?”
“American and cheddar.”
“Ahhh, innovative.” she giggles as she goes to take a bite.
For a moment, the two sit in silence, Noah taking a moment to glance out the window as she eats. Mid-bite, she admires the shine of the sun on his engagement ring. After finishing one half, she looks to him brightly, licking her fingers of excess cheese. His eyes flick over in her direction for a moment.
“How is it?”
“Do you even have to ask? It took me forty-five seconds to eat one half!”
He rolls his eyes at her, a smile on his face as he leans forward, one elbow resting on the table. “You gotta go slower than that, Harley. How else are you gonna really-”
“-take the time to appreciate it.” they finish in unison.
“Yeah, that.” Noah finishes.
To appease him, Harley smiles cheekily, taking an exaggeratedly slow bite of the remaining half. He rolls his eyes again, looking back out at those lingering on the street. She takes note of the way he studies them, his face near unreadable. Even after so long, there are still moments where she can’t quite tell what he’s thinking. It’s rare that he ever gets deep first.
“Maybe some of them will be in here soon.” he muses, eyes following a woman and her two children as they walk into a cafe across the road.
“Maybe!” she chirps. “God knows we’ve done enough advertising. Maybe Andy can get us some airtime on SportsCenter.”
He snorts slightly, giving a small shrug. “I just can’t believe it’s actually happening, y’know? After… everything.”
She knows he that by “everything”, he doesn’t just mean schooling and advertisements. Harley bites the inside of her cheek and reaches over, putting a hand over his as her half-finished grilled cheese slice sits firmly in her other fist. They don’t have to speak to know that the other hopes the worst of their trials are over. She thinks that by now, they deserve some peace. They deserve some…
“How does it feel?” she asks.
He turns to her, offering her a smile. She feels him grip her hand a little tighter with his response.
“Like happiness.”

Fluffy Alphabet
Pairing : Tom x Clove
Word Count :
Rating : Fluff! A teensy bit of suggestion, nothing more.
Template courtesy of @pixelburied
A – Anger (What was their first fight about? Any big or recurring arguments?)
Their first big fight, the one that really matters, stemmed from miscommunication. Clove was feeling insecure, which snowballed into an exchange of cruel words on both of their parts. Thankfully, they worked through and made up. You can read the whole thing here.
B – Best (What would they say is the other’s best trait?)
Tom's absolute favorite thing about Clove is that, despite her back story, she is soft. This just so happens to be her favorite thing about him, too.
They are able to fight anything that stands in their way and do so almost fearlessly, but when it comes to their moments - the moments in between and after, they have one another. Whether that's tickles on the couch or stuffing their faces full of cookies and pizza, whispering sweet nothings or their closest form of intimacy, they cherish their ability to get rid of walls when they're together.
C – Camera (How do they document their relationships? Who likes to take pictures? Or videos?)
They both have a tendency to reach for their phones and document things. Tom loves taking selfies with her and requires multiple each time, and Clove likes taking pictures of him to scroll through later. He was pleasantly surprised when finding that she has an entire album dedicated to random candid moments of his, and sometimes does things she'd think to be cute while she's holding her phone, just to give her a little something extra.
D – Dates (What are their dates like?)
They've never really been a couple who plan anything even kind of elaborate, though Tom does try. He knows she prefers nights in, so he likes to surprise her with her favorite foods and snacks and either a pile of blankets or a cute pillow fort. They both consider these nights, “date nights,” and it's kind of an inside joke.
E – Early (What was the first month of dating like?)
Awkward. Much of the first month consisted of Clove flirting, Tom missing her advances, and fighting the supernatural. Not the grandest of times.
F – Friends (How is their relationship with each other’s group of friends?)
Amazing. Andy and Clove get along super well, which makes Tom over the moon. He loves when Andy visits and they all play Mario Kart or go on walks together and thinks their sassy personalities go hand in hand. He doesn't even mind when he becomes the butt end of their joke.
Tom and Clove's bestie, Ricky, didn't meet in person for a few months, but they quickly became buddies and they even have their own group chat with Elliot for when Tom has some...plans... about doing something special for her. 😉
G – Gifts (Do they like giving each other gifts? What kind?)
Tom always wants to pay for things because he thinks it's chivalrous, but Clove couldn't care less. Truth is, it's always kind of a battle with these two. They love to spoil one another and do so very often, no matter if it's a new item or something hand made.
Clove spun and sculpted an entire collection of MCU mugs for Tom’s first birthday when they were together, which inspired him to start sketching again as he did in middle school (inspired by one of his heroes, Ben Park.) He draws her cute little doodles on the mirror in dry erase marker and she swoons every single time.
H – Hugs (All things involving hugs)
Clove is a laying down hugger. So in other words, she likes to face Tom, wrap her arms around him, and simultaneously hold each other. Tom doesn't hug people too often apart from his family and close friends on occasion, but he absolutely adores her hugs. He often comments on her scent and softness, and she melts in his warmth.
I – Inside Jokes (Do they have any?)
Too many. Like, actually too many. Sometimes it's hard to keep track.
J – Jealousy (Who gets jealous easier? How do they show their jealousy?)
Tom surprises himself at his lack of jealousy now that they're together. At first, he second guessed himself more than he should have, but now he knows how solid they are. Clove, however, tends to harbor a bit of jealousy when others check him out. She never says anything and she doesn't make a show of it, but he notices the look in her eyes when she catches someone admiring his looks. He'll jokingly elbow her and wiggle his eyebrows, mouthing, “Love you,” and she holds his hand a little tighter as if to thank him for that gentle reassurance.
K – Kiss (How do they kiss? Who usually initiates?)
They both initiate in their own ways, very distinctly. Tom starts slow, usually gently swiping his fingers across her waist as he pulls her in, sweetly rubbing his nose with hers before he kisses her. He prefers pecks in public, but when they're in a safe place, he drinks her kisses like fine wine. Slow, steady, loving, almost as if he's afraid he'll run out of her. Kissing Tom is an experience, one that fills her entire heart with butterflies no matter how many times she's done it.
Clove's kisses are just as gentle, but mix in a heap of sensuality. She doesn't care who sees, but respects Tom's aversion to too much PDA. She kisses him with fire, whether slow burning or fierce flickers, leaving lingering love marks on that special place just behind where his hair falls on his neck. Not too dark, but enough for him to hold onto in moments of her absence. He is a big fan of this.
L – Love (How do they first say those three words?)
You already know the canon version, but in my fic universe...the night they finally become intimate. He's so nervous for her to say it, and it's almost a fight to fit it in, but it's a tender and beautiful moment.
M – Movies (What kinds of movies do they watch together? Is it a regular Netflix ritual?)
Clove is a horror girl at heart, even after the wild experiences they have in Pine Springs. Tom is okay with this, and he happily binges films with her, but he really loves anything related to the MCU and anything funny or action packed. When they can't decide what to watch, they put Bob's Burgers on and snuggle, which genuinely is their routine nowadays. They love it.
N – Nicknames (Things they call each other)
Tom's nicknames for Clove, in order of his most to least fave : Love, Angel, Babe, Baby
Clove's nicknames for Tom, in order of her most to least fave : Tommy, Baby, Babe, Honey, Sweetie, Dear
O – One (Tell us about the moment they realized they were with the one.)
Clove will argue that she's always known, and stands by that. In truth, it was one moment soon after meeting him, after their first kiss in Westchester, when he was falling asleep while they'd gone out for pizza. He jolted up to pretend he wasn't asleep, hair falling in his face. He said, “I'm awake! You're pretty.” She knew.
Tom knew she was the one very early on but doesn't have one moment pinpointed. She reminds him each morning that she kisses his cheeks and every time she calls him, “Tommy.”
P – Pizza (What is their favorite food to eat together?)
Pizza, specifically pizza from the good bread place down by the spice market. They have the best cheese pulls and Tom is a huge sucker for their jalapeño breadsticks on the side.
Q – Quit (Do they break up? Almost break up? What happened?)
No. Even during their biggest fight, neither of them could fathom leaving the other. This would have been catastrophic for them, as both of them have their hearts and minds set on only loving one another.
R – Rainy Days (How do they comfort each other on dark days?)
Tom is very nurturing, as taught by his grandparents at a young age. She loves when he sings, and though he doesn't do it often, he will always delight her ears when she's down. He likes to light her favorite candles, prepare her bath water, he warms her towel and makes her snacks. He's even sat on the bathroom floor and held her hand during one of said baths, which has quietly become one of her most treasured memories of their relationship.
Clove knows exactly what Tom needs in all of his moods, especially the down ones. He thrives on positive affirmations, so much of the time, she will spoon him and brush his hair with her fingers while telling him how wonderful he is and how much she loves him. He gets tingles when she plays with his hair and sometimes he'll give her puppy dog eyes and sit on the floor in front of her, leaning his head back into her lap. She loves it too and doesn't mind the extra practice for if they ever have a long haired baby one day.
S – Soft (Something one of them did that turned the other into absolute mush)
These two are the epitome of soft for one another. Just this morning, Tom was pouring a bowl of cereal after Clove had gone to her studio. He noticed her lipstick stain on the mug she'd left on the counter, and it almost made him tear up. He just really loves her, okay? On her way to the studio, he sent her a good morning selfie and she felt her insides go melty. She pulled into the parking lot and held her phone to her chest, smiling, before sending one back. She just really loves him, okay?
T – Texting (Do they text each other a lot? What do they usually talk about over the phone?)
They text each other random things all day long, which usually consists of memes and bad jokes, but Tom loves her studio selfies. She'll even use clay scraps to spell out silly messages and send them to him, while he sends her scrunch faced pictures in return. They're ridiculously sappy and even more cute.
As for phone calls, they don't have those very often, and the ones they do...well, this is meant to be SFW...so let's skip it.
U – Unique (Tell us about some of their odd habits that surprised one another.)
Clove was shocked when Tom revealed himself to be very, very clean. He doesn't leave things around, he does his dishes as he uses them, and his apartment always smells as clean as it looks. Sometimes he misses laundry, but for the most part, he's a clean guy. She differs from him a little, meaning she will leave things in the living room (like books, magazines, makeup) creating a little clutter. Tom secretly likes this, because it makes him feel like his place is becoming a home. Their home.
V – Vanity (Something they’re proud of in themselves and their partner)
Clove's art skill is way more than she'd ever let on, so much so that her only job is her art - and it's enough. She is mad talented and very self sustaining, and this is her point of pride. She loves what she does and she knows she's among the best.
Tom’s great at anything technical and can figure things out very quickly. This enables him to essentially breeze through college and also maintain his new job position at a tech firm. He's an excellent learner and a fast one at that, and he is very proud of where he's headed.
They are proud of one another for these things, sure, but more so, they are proud of one another for the strength and fire they each hold.
W – Wedding (Tell us about your wedding head canon if they’ve gotten that far. Or if not, have they talked about it?)
You'll just have to wait and see.
X – X (Something they hate about the other)
Hate is a strong word, but Clove really does wish he'd remember to put the seat down. He usually laughs and calls her, “little wet booty,” but she really, really doesn't think it's funny. On the other end, Tom wishes she'd stop leaving bobby pins and matches everywhere. The girl loves candles and the sound a match makes when it strikes, but he's sick of picking them up all the time.
Y – Youtube (What are they like online? Do they post about their relationship constantly?)
They post about their relationship on special occasions and extra sappy days, but they do frequently post updated photos together.
Z – Zoo (Are they into animals? Do they want pets? What kind?)
They're both dog people and they'd love one or two, but they're waiting to get a house instead of Tom's little apartment and her studio. Clove also wouldn't mind some kind of rodent, but when she held a mouse up to him at the pet store, he may have shrieked a little. No rodents for Tom.

2018
January --
Trip to Florida with Grandma in the first week. Dark when we leave New York. The under-the-belly fly away feeling when the plane takes off. The loudness of the plane (I didn’t remember it being that loud). There is no forgetting that we are in a giant metal tube barreling through the air. Florida is strange. The warmth is unnatural. I realize I’ve finally come to accept New York winters and the beauty of rest. Florida lives in a state of constant temperance. The trees look exhausted.
We stay in a giant apartment complex next to eight or nine similar buildings on the same street that runs parallel to the ocean front. They stand unnaturally like giant dominoes, fifty feet apart. Boca is extremely cultivated. We go to Wal-Mart, we eat at P.F. Chang’s.
We go to the beach. There is no salty sweet smell here (like the one at the beaches in Jersey).  Uncle (with whom we are staying) is unwell and has been for years. He repeatedly tries to get me to down alcoholic beverages and whenever my grandma isn’t around, talks about sex. He brushes my ass with his hand on the beach as we walk, and I ball my fists up in anger and walk faster. I don’t tell my Grandma because she is hesitant about staying here, and I want her to enjoy her time.
I fly back after two days, as was the plan. I am relieved to get back to the small, cold airport in Westchester, to see my little red Civic and rich, who drives it up to the pick up area.
On my first night back, I realize how good it is to be home, and also how much it feels like home, more home than original home, my little family with rich and crowdog. I ask him to marry me and he says yes. The next day he buys a ring-pop and leaves it on my nightstand.
February, March, April --
Back to School. I left in 2015, and am finally back. Spring Semester. I’m taking the Novel with Michelle Woods and Seminar in Critical Practices with Vicki Tromanhauser. I’m amazed how each class goes by so quickly -- I am always disappointed to hear that final tone-shift in the professor’s voice when she says that’s enough for today, we’ll pick up here next class. I read Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment, The Master and Margarita, We, Lolita, The Waves by Virginia Woolf, The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood, St. Mawr by D.H. Lawrence, a short story by Ursula Le Guin, and the eco-critical theories of Morton, Harraway, Derrida.
I’d forgotten how much I loved reading and learning. I raise my hand in class and talk to other people. We go on a field trip to the Nature Sanctuary for my Seminar class and take a class photo. I save it to my computer when I realize it’s full of friends.
Tumblr media
I write two papers that I’m extremely proud of, one about peasant dreams in Anna Karenina, and another about listening to Joanna Newsom’s Have One On Me as an eco-critical breakup album.
May, June --
My first semester ends, and my sister graduates from high school. I’m definitely old. I take an online summer class on Utopia/Dystopia with Cyrus Mulready.
Tumblr media
July --
A trip to Long Beach Island, my place. rich and I stay crammed with my parents and my sister and her boyfriend in a two bedroom upstairs rental --the one that we used to stay at when I was little. We sleep on the pull-out couch, which was even less comfortable than that sounds. We stay for two nights. I eat oysters for the first time. My mom and I play kadima ball along the shore, and I eat a Spongebob Pop on a hot day, and his red pants drip down my hand. It’s a short trip, but enough. The year has been full but relentless, and here I have a few moments of actual content.
Tumblr media
On the way back home, my radiator blows on the Garden State Parkway. We pull over and call rich’s cousin, and then we macgyver the shit out of it so we don’t have to get towed home from Jersey. The GPS decides to almost take us through the city instead of the normal way home, so a three-hour trip turns into seven hours -- but it was nice. We stayed fairly calm and worked it out, and it made me appreciate the shit out of our relationship.
August --
The dog days of summer. Everything is wet. We’re in the process of moving houses (something that I’ve done every summer for the past six or so years). Dealing with the old landlords in the final weeks is absolute hell. But we end up getting all of our security back, and we’re moving to a good house --it belongs to the Grandmother of the kids I used to babysit when I was in high school/early college.
We move in and I love the smell of the house. It’s a good place next to a stream. Everything is so wet that we start to notice mold on the furniture in the sunny room, and we fight it back.
September --
This is a very hard month. In late August, I wait and wait and wait for my period. It keeps threatening with cramps, but never comes. I take a pregnancy test and it’s positive. I make the decision that would be best for another human, not for myself. I can’t just have a baby because I want something cute, or because it’s “possible” to do so. We’re not ready for a baby, now or even ever --I’ve always been theoretically conflicted on if I wanted to bring someone else into this whole Thing against their will. And now I have to confront that hypothetical in my reality.
I make an appointment at planned parenthood after rich and I talk about it for a few days. It’s hard to get in, so I have to wait a few weeks. The house starts smelling awful. I get debilitatingly nauseous every time I go home. The smell of lavender dryer sheets (that I used to love) make me want to die. The world becomes a constant state of nausea. I get nose bleeds, I find out, because pregnancy changes SO MANY THINGS about how your body operates. Your body temperature goes up and your blood thins. Your teeth are more prone to infection and your body is circulating much more (like up to 50 percent more) blood.
At the appointment, the nurse is extremely nice and takes my blood without making me feel lightheaded. I find out I’m eight weeks pregnant and that I’ll need to schedule a termination procedure for the next week. I’m nervous but I want to get it over with. The doctor takes an ultrasound and shows me a picture of the “fetus” - it’s a small, black and white oval dot.
In the middle of September, I go to the Poughkeepsie planned parenthood to get the procedure. I decide not to take the sedation. I take four ibuprofen and they take me to the pre/post waiting room. I meet a woman who’s stocking up on granola bars, ginger ales and condoms,  shoving them into her purse. She tells me this is her sixth procedure. “Are you nervous?” she asks. I say “no.”
It’s over quickly and it’s not more painful than some of the periods I’ve had. I get lightheaded afterwards and they keep me for an extra 20 minutes or so, but then I can walk out and go home. I tell rich to stop at mcDonald’s and we get burgers, and then I go home and sleep.
The first two days after the procedure I feel amazing. I’m no longer nauseous and I don’t have cramps. On the third day, the cramps start and so does constipation. I have extremely painful anal spasms at work one day. The bleeding and cramping stops around 2 weeks after the procedure, but begins again when I start birth control.
This all happens while my Fall Semester is starting, so there is no time to stop and rest and consider this whole thing. I keep going at the same pace because that’s what I have to do.
October --
My Fall semester is really great despite all the stuff of the previous month. I’m taking my Senior Seminar class about the Materiality of the Text with Mulready, and I’m taking The Epic Tradition with Thomas Festa. I read the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Aeneid, and Dante’s Inferno, Frankenstein, Hamlet, and a ton scholars that focus on materiality: Ong, Calhoun, Silverman, Sherman, etc etc etc. I’m energetic but anxious.
We have a housewarming party and it’s not a disaster. It’s mostly family and then some friends afterwards, but we’re old and tired and clean and go to bed pretty early, and I’m okay with that.
November, December --
Extremely exhausting and busy two months. Throwing myself into school work, I write two more papers that I’m fairly proud of: one on the materiality of Dante’s Inferno and the other about the myth of diaries, explored by looking at a few weird Frankenstein diaries.
Even New Year’s Eve was shot with a full day’s work followed by my first BioAnthropology exam (I’m taking a winter class), and I fell asleep at 10pm. Things will calm down in a few weeks hopefully (I’m done with classes after the 17th!!) and I can actually reflect on all the nonsense that happened this year.
Things are pretty good though, and I’m thankful for a lot. I challenged myself this year and it paid the fuck off. I made some new friends and wrote some things I’m proud of and I live in a pretty nice house with my family. I finally stopped bleeding, and I’m doing okay physically now too.
For Next Year:
- I want to bring my lunch to work at least twice a week!
- I want to stretch and do some type of exercise (so I don’t get winded so easily)
- I want to save some money and take a good trip.
- I want to stop scrolling so much!

Best Burgers in Westchester
Westchester County, New York, is a treasure trove for food enthusiasts, boasting a diverse culinary landscape. Among the myriad offerings, one classic dish stands out as a perennial favorite—the burger. From juicy patties to delectable toppings and perfect buns, the quest for the best burger joints in Westchester is an adventure worth embarking on. As a connoisseur of flavors and a local restaurateur in the area, the search for exceptional burgers is an integral part of my culinary exploration.
Craftsmanship at its Finest: The Quest for the Perfect Patty
A great burger starts with the perfect patty. Whether you're a fan of classic beef, turkey, veggie, or even an adventurous bison, Westchester's eateries offer a remarkable variety. Each establishment takes pride in its own distinct patty-making technique, often combining different cuts of meat and secret seasoning blends to create a flavor that stands out.
Tumblr media
Buns that Hold the Dream Together
A crucial but often underestimated component of a stellar burger is the bun. Soft, slightly toasted, brioche, pretzel, or even artisanal options—buns can make or break the burger experience. Westchester's burger joints pay close attention to this detail, ensuring the bread complements the patty and toppings to elevate the entire ensemble.
Toppings: The Creative Touch
In Westchester, creativity knows no bounds when it comes to burger toppings. From the classics like crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and melted cheese to unique twists like caramelized onions, avocado, or even a sunny-side-up egg, these toppings add layers of flavor, texture, and personality to each burger.
The Sauce Saga
No burger is complete without its signature sauce. Whether it's a secret special sauce, classic ketchup and mustard, or a daring aioli or barbecue blend, the sauce is the unifying element that ties all the flavors together. In Westchester, the diversity of sauces mirrors the diverse palates of its inhabitants.
Top Picks: Westchester's Burger Gems
While exploring Westchester's burger scene, a few exceptional spots stood out.
Flavors of Home:Chicken Coop NY Restaurant takes pride in crafting a burger that embodies the essence of comfort food. The secret blend of herbs and spices in the signature patty, coupled with their unique homemade sauce, elevates the burger experience to a whole new level.
Tradition with a Twist: A local joint in specific area, known for its homage to traditional recipes, offers a burger menu that harmonizes classic flavors with innovative toppings. The juxtaposition of familiar and novel elements in their burgers is a culinary delight.
The Gourmet Experience: For those seeking a gourmet affair, an upscale eatery in Westchester crafts burgers using the finest ingredients. From wagyu beef to artisanal buns and exotic toppings, this establishment redefines the burger experience.
The Unveiling Continues
As a local restaurateur myself, I understand the significance of continuously exploring and learning from the vibrant food scene. At Chicken Coop NY Restaurant, we hold dear the principles of quality, flavor, and creativity that Westchester's burger joints exhibit. Our commitment to excellence in crafting burgers is a testament to our passion for the culinary arts.
Westchester's burger scene is a dynamic tapestry of flavors and experiences, where every establishment offers its unique take on this classic comfort food. As I continue to navigate the culinary landscape, the journey through Westchester's burger havens remains an ever-evolving exploration of taste and ingenuity.
In conclusion, whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring Westchester's culinary delights, the burger joints in this region promise an exciting, mouthwatering adventure. The quest for the best burger in Westchester is an ongoing and delightful pursuit, one that never ceases to amaze and tantalize taste buds.

Candlelight Restaurant-Guidelines
Candlelight Restaurant is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is known as one of the best restaurants in the nation. Long-time, longtime, beloved joint with outstanding burgers, beer, wings & other bar food in a chic, lively low-key atmosphere. Many have said that it was the combination of old-world elegance and contemporary flair that made The Candlelight Restaurant one of the best New York City dining establishments. In fact, it has been featured in many famous food magazines including Time and Fine Dining Times. If you are planning to start a restaurant business or simply want to enhance your already existing restaurant experience, I highly recommend that you consider putting up a restaurant like Candlelight Restaurant. You may want to check out good place for anniversary dinner for more.
Tumblr media
Candlelight Restaurant was started by two brothers, Jonny and Donny, who had never had any prior restaurant experience. However, they were drawn to the unique, chic, casual atmosphere created by the Westchester Village, which is located between Beacon and Avenue in Manhattan. As a result, they invested a lot of time and energy into creating a concept that would be perfect for a New York City style pub restaurant.
The interior design and architecture of candlelight restaurant is a combination of Spanish Colonial and Native American designs. The walls are painted with beautiful reds and yellows; the floors are marble and the furniture is hand crafted. There is also a large foyer that leads directly to the dining area and patio areas. Patrons will immediately feel the vibes of history while enjoying the delicious, fresh-tasting foods and drinks. In short, if you are in the mood to have fun, enjoy great food and beverages, then make your way to the Westchester Village of Manhattan, where you will surely experience a memorable dining experience at the popular Candlelight Restaurant.

"It can be raining like crazy and then fifteen minutes later it's fine."
That's Kimmer, by the way, commenting on yesterday afternoon's sudden deluge of rain.
Deluge.
Of rain.
All that rain came with intense flashes and branches of lighting accompanied by thunder that was much like a bulldozer careening around an industrial kitchen.
It was very clangy is what I'm saying.
We managed a reservation at Margaritaville for lunch, scoring a table on the covered "Indecision Porch" in front of which everyone on foot passes. From our perch, it's impossible not to see certain things.
For example, a tall young man with his arm draped lazily around the young woman he's with. Kimmer thought first-date. My bet's on they're a couple and she's not super happy about it because at one point he leans down and over to kiss the top of her head and the look on her face at that moment is one of enduring it.
I noticed a number of families wearing uniforms, bright green or orange t-shirts that make them impossible to miss by family members even from low earth orbit. Which is a good thing 'cause all these families have little kids in tow.
I saw a coupla brothers, older and younger, and caught the moment when the older brother put his arm around the younger and they took off running.
Took.
Off.
Running.
I saw a father try to put his arm around his daughter but she kept ducking it. And when he finally relented... she took his hand instead. ♥️♥️♥️
I saw off-season Santa driving an electric cart, dressed from head to toe in a red warm-up suit.
I saw someone wearing a "Free The Dinosaurs" t-shirt and now I want one of those t-shirts too.
Plus, you know, I really do want to free the dinosaurs 'cause I'm environmental like that. 😁
I also realized during lunch that Kimmer's scheduled for us a vacation, a vacation, and a vacation. Right now we're on a three-and-a-half day stay without obligation, responsibility, or agenda. That vacation'll be followed by five days of all things Disney starting Monday. And the last two days are no-obligstion free time again.
Lovely!
Our lunch was also accompanied by a live steel drum band performing popular covers that caused me to indulge a mental game of "Name That Tune". I wasn't very good at it though eventually I figured out most of the songs. Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" was one of the most well known along with the "Guilty Feet Have Got No Rhythm" song by George Michael that's actually "Careless Whisper" by Wham 'cause I just looked it up.
After lunch, it's nap and relax time. And then it's time for night bowling 'cause it's this thing we both really want to do and I stood in line this morning for nearly forty five minutes waiting to get a reservation.
Tumblr media
We had a great time, by the way. I started off with three strikes in a row which felt really bizarre. Kimmer took a few frames to get her groove back and ended up improving her score with each game while my game seemed to get worse.
Still.
Night bowling. The missus 'n me.
♥️♥️♥️
Not long after we finished, Linzy's flight landed at Orlando International and, while we were hunting around for a dinner sandwich for her, she managed to land in our hotel's lobby.
She was pretty wiped out much as we were a few evenings ago. It's amazing what air travel takes out of you. Not sure why. And that three hour time difference is always a bigger deal than it has any right to be.
We finished the evening with Linzy getting us hooked on that Netflix series "Lupin", "a retelling of the classic French story about Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise." (Wikipedia)
We blew through two hours of this foreign language subtitled action/mystery show, only stopping 'cause it was 230.
A.M.
A few hours later, 6AM, I'm up again 'cause Rachel's plane lands a little after six. It winds up landing about ten minutes after six and I meet her in the hotel lobby after she Lyfts the final leg of her journey to a most welcome sleep 'cause she's been flying all night, having a classic red-eye experience.
Now, we didn't get to bed 'til 230 this morning. And Rachel didn't get any sleep on the plane 'cause they kept it so cold. So I'm figuring she's just gonna maybe say a quick hello to Kimmer 'n Linzy before going to sleep while everyone goes back to sleep.
Haha. NOPE.
We haven't all been together as a family for a long time now and suddenly (and for the week) the band's back together again. So a lot of catching up ensues. And a lot of laughter followed by shhhhh's 'cause it's still earlyish in the morning.
At some point, though, not sure when, I nod off.
Tumblr media
It's 10AM!
Yeah. It's 10AM and this is one of those experiences like when I used to get up super early on Sunday morning's to do my paper route and then went back to bed again after finishing it only to get up a few hours later.
It felt like a different day every time. Even after those few hours of sleep.
And so it is this morning.
While the girls remain essentially comatose after their travels, Kimmer slips downstairs to Starbucks whilst I take a glorious shower. "Glorious" in that it really does seem like a completely different day.
:-)
After clearing the room, checking out, and stashing our bags at the front desk for a few hours, the missus 'n I indulge mango smoothies by the pool whilst talking life 'cause that's what old people do. Then we're off to Trader Joe's with Santiago, an Uber driver who shared bits of life with us as we did with him. We talked about New York City where he lived before, we talked a little sights of Orlando where he's lived since oh-three, we talked a little bit Seattle where his best friend's younger brother lives (and also where we were born & raised), and then we talked a touch of Puerto Rico and Hurricane Maria.
It doesn't take us long at Trader Joe's, a coupla bags worth, really, before we hail another Uber back with Carlitos from New York State… . Westchester. We talked old school sports video games as well as the challenges of proper car maintenance before dropping off again for one more best.
Burger.
Ever.
At The Hideaway Bar & Grill.
😁😁😁
Eventually, it's time to end Vacation #1 with a Lyft from our driver, Wanell, to our rental condo at Floridays. We talked the recent Haiti earthquake a little and quickly determining that all his friends and family are okay. Alive and uninjured. Then, because we were passing it, we talked Icon Park with that crazy tall rotating swing guaranteed to induce nausea and vomiting. The Kraken roller coaster was another candidate on which we all voted would produce similar results as we passed Sea World. And then, finally, somehow, we talked alligators 'n fries.
I don't know what to tell you. Rachel was super interested to hear about it.
And so on.
We're pretty much having a Maui experience here where there seems to be more time in our days. More hours than just the 24 we're routinely allotted. Because once you start having to count the time between one event and the next… your day just gets away from you. Sometimes at light speed.
And we're not doing that.
These are not full days of To-Dos. This is nearly all unstructured time. And when it's unstructured time… the day just unfolds and keeps unfolding.
It's crazy how much livable time there is on any given day.
Seriously. There really is.
Anyway, this first vacation, part 1, the one before our Disney vacation, wraps up today. And tomorrow… we dive head first into, well...
We're about to find out.
🙂🤔😁

Beach Getaway (Connor x MC, NSFW)
Summary: Connor and Vanessa (MC) take a trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon and become lovers.
Rating: MA/NSFW
Author’s note: Since the ILITW MC is 18 and Connor is 20 at the beginning of the story, and this takes place after her high school graduation, I think the subject is acceptable.
Tumblr media
After a long drive, Connor and Vanessa arrived in Cannon Beach. After parking the car, they checked in and headed to their hotel room. Vanessa set down her suitcase, then walked over to the window. The ocean was clearly visible from the room. She turned to Connor. "What a view!"
Connor came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. "I thought you'd like it. Since we're celebrating, I figured we should get a room with a view. You deserve the best."
"I already have the best." She turned around to face him, then leaned close and kissed him gently. She had a feeling that this was going to be a memorable trip. And after what they had been through, they deserved to have some fun. Although she and her friends had survived, they were emotionally scarred as a result of everything that Jane and Noah had done to them. Nevertheless, she had been able to get through the school year, and had graduated from Westchester High. As a graduation gift, Connor had arranged for the two of them to spend a few days in Cannon Beach. It was definitely going to be nice to be alone with him.
Connor reached for her hand. "Let's go out for a while."
They headed downtown and walked around, exploring the area. There were gift shops, restaurants, a candy store, jewelry and clothing stores, and art galleries. While they were in one of the galleries, Vanessa noticed some metal sculptures. She looked to Connor and smiled. "I bet you could have your work on display someday."
Connor shrugged. "You really think I'm good enough?"
"Yes, I do. It's worth a try, isn't it?" She patted his arm encouragingly.
"Yeah, I guess. I'll think about it," he replied.
They continued to walk around town. As they came closer to one of the stores, the sign on it caught Vanessa's eye. A hardware store and public house? "We have to check that out," she told Connor. They walked in, and sure enough, amongst the hardware there was a bar area with tables. They found a seat and ordered burgers and fries.
"Can you imagine a bar at Gunther's Hardware? It would be convenient. I could grab some food whenever I wanted." Connor picked up a fry and put it into his mouth.
"It would give me an excuse to stop by more often." Vanessa smiled, then reached for her diet soda.
As the sun was setting, they headed back to the hotel. They stopped by their room to drop off a few items that they had purchased, then went outside again. They walked over to the beach and strolled along the coastline. As they neared Haystack Rock, Vanessa pulled out her phone and began taking pictures. After photographing the rock, the ocean, and the sunset, she turned to Connor and snapped a photo of him. "I need pictures of all the scenery."
Connor grabbed her phone. "Then I'd better take one of you." He took a picture of her, then handed the phone back. She pulled him close to her, held out her phone, and took a picture.
When it started to get dark, they went back to their room. Vanessa's heart began to pound. The moment had finally arrived. Although she and Connor had been together for a while and had gotten pretty hot and heavy, they had never actually gone all the way. Sure, they had thought about it, but the moment had never seemed right. They both lived with their parents, and the back seat of his car wasn't exactly the ideal place for their first time. But now they had plenty of privacy, and a big bed. They had talked about it and decided that it was the right time.
She moved closer to Connor. "So...should we?"
He reached out to her. "If you want to."
She nodded, and then his lips were on hers, and his arms were around her. He guided her towards the bed and lay her down gently. They kissed passionately, and he reached for the bottom of her shirt, pulling it over her head. She removed his as well, and then he was unbuttoning her shorts, and she was unzipping his jeans. Soon they were only in their underwear. Connor unfastened her bra and slipped it off, then caressed her breasts. He kissed her neck, then lower, taking a nipple into his mouth. Vanessa tugged off Connor's underwear and reached between his legs. She could feel just how excited he was. As Connor continued to kiss her breasts, he moved his hands downward. When he reached her waist, he pulled down her panties, then slipped a finger inside her as he rubbed her clit with another. He lowered his head and kissed his way downward until he reached her core. Vanessa placed her hands on his head and began to run her fingers through his long blond hair. She arched her hips, pushing herself closer as she became more aroused, until she finally found her release.
Connor sat up. "I'll be right back." He walked over to his bag and rummaged through it, then returned to the bed, holding a package of condoms. He looked into her eyes and stroked her hair. "Are you ready?"
She nodded, and he opened the package, unwrapped a condom, and put it on. He positioned himself over her and gently pressed against her. He thrust forward, and she felt him enter her. It hurt a little, but only for a moment. Their bodies began to move together, and it started to feel good. He quickened the pace, and their breathing grew heavier. He cried out loudly and collapsed against her.
For a moment he lay still. Then he rolled off her and took her into his arms. "I love you so much, Vanessa."
"I love you too, Connor." She snuggled close to him, and they kissed and cuddled until they fell asleep.

In-N-Out Burger donates $25,000 to Republican Party, sparking boycott

The ongoing battle of who makes the best burger is on! On the West Coast, everyone love In-N-Out Burger, so most East Coasters are dying for a taste! Turns out, that won’t be happening any time soon. Buzz60

California’s beloved burger chain got itself into a political beef as residents of the majority-Democrat state come to a realization: In-N-Out Burger donates to Republicans.
The Irvine-based company gave $25,000 to the California Republican Party this week, according to a state filing noted on Twitter by journalist Gabe Schneider. And that’s not the first time. In-N-Out also dished up $30,000 to the party in both 2017 and 2016, according to Los Angeles Magazine.
“Et tu In-N-Out?” said California Democratic Party Chairman Eric Bauman on Twitter. “Tens of thousands of dollars donated to the California Republican Party. It’s time to #BoycottInNOut —  let Trump and his cronies support these creeps… perhaps animal style!”

While In-N-Out prints Bible verses on its cups and packaging, Fortune noted it hasn’t been as associated with religion-driven conservatism as Chick-Fil-A, a restaurant chain with a similar food fanatic following whose CEO condemned gay marriage.
And In-N-Out donates to both sides of the aisle: According to the magazine, the chain has given tens of thousands of dollars to “Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy,” a political action committee that aims to elect moderate Democrats.
Still, the news had some left-leaning In-N-Out aficionados feeling conflicted.
“In the age of @realDonaldTrump, we need joy in our lives,” said Twitter user @DetAnsinn. “Sometimes, that joy comes in red/white wrapper and a toasted bun.”
“No more Double-Doubles for me,” said @SpinDr. “From now on, only Shake Shack.”
Others saw an upside: “Wait… does this mean California liberals (basically most of the state) won’t eat at In-N-Out anymore?” said @NersesAposhian. “Shorter lines?!”
In-N-Out fans supporting livable wages may want to stick with the burger chain despite its perceived politics. The company confirmed to USA TODAY this year that its store managers earn six-figure salaries. Entry-level employees start at $13 an hour, above California’s $11 minimum wage.

Winter in Westchester
It’s a cold December morning and we’re only about forty minutes from the city, driving north along the winding I-87, but to the east, outside the frosted car window, is a different world: acres of farmland dusted with the first snow of the year, and farther out, a silver, sundrenched lake. Around the bend, we see whitechapel churches surrounded by dry streambeds and frozen sunflower stalks. And way out there, is a solitary farmhouse, small as a thimble, nestled in the snow.
Westchester County is a collection of small towns with big city sophistication. It attracts locals and folks who want the amenities of Manhattan without the rushed chaos of midtown life. And through the years, it’s caught the eye of A-listers like Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Richard Gere, and The Clintons.
EAT:
For big shot city slickers, Westchester is an ideal long weekend, romantic getaway, or day trip. It’s where we go to unwind and unplugged without sacrificing the quality of food, art or service we’ve come to expect. Our most recent visit came with a revelation: Westchester is a foodie haven. And at the top of the list? Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a two-Michelin starred oasis of culinary and architectural brilliance (with a side of rustic charm.)
The restaurant is a venue that has hosted several queer weddings, as well. Tucked away in Pontatico Hills, Blue Hill is the star of Westchester and a destination dinner spot that gay boys make a special trip from the city to enjoy..
In Tarrytown, Goosefeather — a Cantonese hotspot inside an 1840s mansion — is garnering raves. The chef, Dale Talde, is something of a local celeb himself, having appeared as a contestant on Top Chef on two occasions. In 2019, his crab rice dish had the entire county in a frenzy, and why not? Jasmine rice, pickled jalapenos, generous amounts of locally caught crab with red and black tobiko has reimagined what we knew about Eastern cooking.
And speaking of culinary celebs, Jean Georges himself is at the helm of The Inn at Pound Ridge, a charming getaway inside a rustic, two-story 1833 farmhouse with stone walls, wood floors, and cozy fireplaces. Jean Georges opened his upstate oasis nearly six years ago, where you can warm up with haute takes on comfort food perfect for winter nights: burgers, pastas, and wood-fired pizzas paired with local wines.
For something a little easier on your bank account, check out a new favorite, The Little Drunken Chef.
RETREAT:
Opening in February 2020, The Abbey Inn & Spa in Peekskill is sure to be a new favorite for those looking to come to the country to be relaxed and revitalized. The inn has riverview suites, an onsite farm-to-table restaurant, and spa featuring treatment rooms, saunas and whirlpools. You can come to eat, sleep and be pampered in one of the most anticipated openings in the new year.
Some years ago, three Westchester residents — Carey Lowell, Russell Hernandez, and actor Richard Gere, joined together to turn an old farmhouse into a rural but luxurious getaway called The Bedford Post Inn. Today, the Relais & Chateaux property is a charming boutique hotel, revered restaurant, and wellness retreat equipped with one of our favorite yoga studios. The Yoga Loft offers daily classes, workshops and private sessions to help you become a more centered, focused, and flexible you.
In Chappaqua, stay and dine at The Clinton’s favorite spot, The Crabtree Kittle House and Inn. The historic inn resides on a quaint, tree-lined street in rural upstate, perfect for especaping and regrouping in cozy quarters with one of the best restaurants in town (you can even reserve The Clinton’s favorite table!)
EXPLORE:
Westchester County is brimming with art, with top-notch museums, performing arts, and events. The Hudson Valley MOCA in Peekskill is our favorite, with contemporary artists and edgy works that challenge and enthrall visitors. And the new Sing Sing Prison Museum is set to be as controversial as it is educational, telling its story for the first time through tours, archived photographs, and films.
If you’re looking to see a show this winter, check out Almost Queen — a cover band tribute to Freddy Mercury — at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on February 1st. We’ve also got our eyes on the Calexico and Iron & Wine show on February 5th, or the return of the elusive Lauryn Hill on February 20. At the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck, Lisa Loeb performs on March 21.  Published in partnership with visitwestchesterny.com
