Billy Connolly and the William Tell Overture
Today, we’ll be listening to the end of the William Tell Overture by Gioachino Rossini.  This piece, originally the overture to an opera, has been arranged for piano and is in several method books, including Piano Pronto Movements 1 and 2.  It’s also in Bastien Book 4 and Piano Maestro. The original story Maybe your grandparents watched the original Lone Ranger Or you saw the newer Lone…

Waypoints, Take 2: POV Shipper
It's been touted and mentioned at length. It has been awaited with immoderate, naïve anticipation. It has been read highlighter in hand, in the hope to discern its true meaning and purpose. It also was the last straw for some people, pushing them out of the fandom when above anticipation and expectations proved somewhat hollow.
To the dismayed and the heartbroken, I say: I hope you do realize this is a) heavily edited and b) published with the substantial contribution of a ghostwriter, handsomely paid to neatly round off the edges and fit this travelogue-cum-memoir in a pre-shaped pitch.
This bloke:
Tumblr media
The dilligent Matt Whyman, novelist. Agony uncle for several UK press and online outlets, specialized in teenage love and relationships' counselling. British Council executive, with several stints abroad under his belt. Part and parcel of a number of public health awareness campaigns sponsored by the UK Government, with a special interest for above teenage love, sexuality and relationships. And established, top-tier ghostwriter.
Among others, on behalf of Billy Connoly, the "Big Yin" himself, proof that the Scottish mafia is discreet, but by no means inexistent (an excellent thing). Ah, Sir Billy Connoly and his New-Zealander wife, Lady Pamela Stephenson, whom he met in 1979, while filming together a sketch for BBC2's Not the Nine O'Clock News. Chemistry took care of itself, because she ditched her recently married husband and moved in with Connoly in 1981. Both (at least nominally: Connoly considers himself an atheist, nowadays) Roman-Catholic and married at the time of getting together, Stephenson divorced in 1984 and Connoly in 1985 from their respective partners and live in marital bliss since 1989. For some reason, I think these tidbits are important, go figure.
Sidenote: if you haven't already, watch (if still available on Netflix, otherwise I implore you to look for it on other platforms) an exceptional French series, Call My Agent. You will not only love the humor, you will educate yourself with the basic ropes of celeb PR.
At face value, I couldn't think of a more appropriate consigliere to deal with the brief that (spare the failed Everest movie project) prompted this book. It is not that difficult to figure out:
Evoke at length the past to offer a modicum of explanation of the present. Mention traumatic relationship with father to explain fear of commitment in a solid, steady relationship.
In the process, pay lip service to the Narrative, but take substantial liberty and a daring stand when discussing the horrific Wentworth episode-that-nobody-could-watch. Express controlled discontent towards TPTB, to have the upper hand while negotiating a possible season 8 (fun fact, it worked)
Conveniently send into oblivion Flukenzie Floozy, Quarantein Hooter's Madonna and any other two letter combo born from the hyperactive imagination of the Queen of Nothing, while respecting ToS of bachelorhood - it's still good for the Sales Department.
Camouflage reality of S&C entity, under a London Blitz-worthy blanket of smoke & mirrors, but allow leaks that could easily pass for creative license or babble. Shippers will get it. Dots will connect, coins will drop. We shall overcome.
Simultaneously, offer a plausible explanation for the above UFO co-star/bro-sis/Ginger Jesus- Mother Mary relationship, primarily to comfort and control Mordor, that Troll Nursery. Say what the hell you want, including something along the lines of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, but say it LOUDER FOR THOSE SHIPPER PEOPLE IN THE BACK OF THE COACH. They are used to this one step forward/one slap backward tango and by now, few (if any) will budge elsewhere on the fandom spectrum.
Discreetly crush homosexuality rumors, because they are borderline calumny, at this point in time. However, the Data Lounge crowd could make Mordor look like Bora Bora, so the sooner they get bored and move to the next babyface, the better.
Substantially promote MPC and Great Glen Company, consolidating the image of the giving, thoughtful individual, with a creative mind and savvy enough to branch out in lucrative business projects. Extend fan/consumer/client base to a younger demographic.
Pave the way for exit plan. This report will not discuss it, but hints may have been detected. :)
Wow. This is a mouthful. And I have to say Mr. Whyman did a more than decent job of it, even if for a trained eye the seams are showing, at times.
Like this:
Tumblr media
Frazer. You can't make this shit up. This is SRH.
As compared to this (excuse the repetition: the blogger is not lazy - the blogger tries to make a point):
Tumblr media
This is Whyman. This has been probably paid extra for. This is painful to read. This failed.
As for leaks, I've found a good handful. Adding all of them here higgledy-piggledy would be tedious, boring and I am not Miss Marple. But I've noticed that feelings hide in plain sight, usually disguised in a song you whistle or some verse you remember, just to keep you company on the road, a propos of nothing (my foot):
Tumblr media
I don't know what this woman is talking about, you might say. Whatevs. How about this:
Tumblr media
To keep myself sane, I usually rip off a Twix bar or light up a Benson. Others resort to Shakespeare, in lieu of granola bars. The world is a wonderfully diverse place. LOL, don't mind me. I am a dillusional woman, for whom all hope is lost.
Sometimes, this whole pastoral reverie has a Lewis Carroll charm to it (you might want to open this in another tab):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who is your queen, Sir? Surely not the cheerful woman in leggings, flats and a Playboy T-shirt, huh?
Maybe the key is this childish botanical pun, tucked away at the end of the book:
Tumblr media
Knowing that the P in Psillyosam is silent, as in *urv the Psychologist, we read and we grin:
[P]sillyosam Mushroom. Silly O'Sam. Silly, oh Sam.
Hashtag silly. An apt response to lemon and hugs.
To sum it up on a cheerful note, Waypoints is the 4 S book:
Struggles - Success - (fake) Solitude - (with a clear optic to avoid at all costs) Scandal
I thank you for your time while reading this. I hope it was worth it and yes, I confidently rest my case. Until the next memoir, which I reasonably hope would be vastly different.

COMFORT MOVIE CHALLENGE: MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND

Released in 1996, his is the second Muppet feature film directed by Brian Henson, based on a classic work of literature and released in partnership with the Walt Disney Company (before the aquisition of the Muppet franchise by Disney was really officialized in the early 2000s), after 1992′s The Muppet Christmas Carol.
This time adapting the famous children’s pirate adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, they cast the human actors Kevin Bishop as Jim Hopkins, Tim Curry as Long John Silver, Billy Connoly as Billy Bones, and Jennifer Saunders as tavern owner Mrs. Bluveridge, while the Muppet actors are Kermit the Frog as ship Captain Smollet, Miss Piggy as Smollet’s fiancee Benjamina Gunn, Sam the Eagle as Mr Arrow, Fozzie Bear as Squire Trelawney and the duo of Gonzo and Rizzo as eighteen century versions of themselves.
Meant as an energetic adventure and musical comedy movie for the whole family, the film is quick to extablish the characters of Jim Hopkins, Gonzo and Rizzo as three on their luck tavern workers.
Rizzo is sardonic and prefers a life of comfort, safety and plenty of food, while Jim (who here is portrayed as a young orphan of both parents) and Gonzo dream of excitement travelling trough the seas.
One of the clients of the tavern, former pirate Billy Bones, dies, leaving the map to find the treasure of Pirate Captain Flint to Jim, while pirates burn the tavern down.
So the trio goes to ask the rich Squire Trelawney a ship to search for the buried treasure. Squire Trelawney, a person of unconventional mind that confindes in an imaginary friend who lives in his finger, called Mr Bimbo, is excited with the idea, and presents to them the ship called Hispaniola, that shall be comanded by Captain Smollet and his right hand man Mr Arrow.
Among the crew that Squire Trelawney hires for the travel, Jim, Gonzo and Rizzo meet the ship cook Long John Silver, a charismatic man with a dark sense of humour, who becomes a close friend of Jim.
The young boy, naive and longing for a father figure, becomes trusty of Long John, while Gonzo and Rizzo, neglected by Jim, feel something is off with the cook, because before dying Billy Bones had warned them to beware of a one legged man, a description that fits Long John, who has only one leg and walks with a cane.
Jim is the normal every person who acts and is a surrogate for the audience, that gets emerged in the colorfull world of the port, the ship and the island.
You get a nice balance of chaotic meta humour of the 70s version of the Muppets with dramatic acting and character focus that would become strong in the 90s.
While the main cast of characters is firm in being their roles and invested in their emotional conflicts, you get little fourt wall breaking jokes like rat tourists visiting the location in modern atire right while the movie is being made, Statler and Waldorf as two wood ship figureheads who makes about the movie and a small cameo of the Swedish Chef dressed as a parody of an island native preparing to cook the imprisoned Rizzo, Gonzo and Smollet while the vegetables say to the audience “Well, how did you expected we would put him in the movie?”
And being a Muppet movie musical, you can expect well elaborated numbers presentings fun, beautifull, catchy songs the somber opening villain song“Shiver my Timbers”, the I Want song “Something There”, the epic “Sailing for Adventure”, the hilariously random “Cabin Fever”, the intimidating “Boom Shakalaka”, the romantic ballad “Love Led Us Here” and the dancing relaxing reggae “Lover Power”, courtesy of none other than Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley.
This colorfull, age of sail musical fantasy with Muppets gives a strong atmosphere that reminds of the joy of summer.
There is an entertaining combination of character drama, action, a touch of a horror atmosphere, romance and the goold old comedy that only the Muppets can, and it now enters in the list of my favorite movies, that is probably the best pirate movie ever made.

Nancy had gotten through a couple of drinks. And somehow had gotten onto the subject of wellington boots. "Picture this, if you will. You're just walking through a field. And then you don't have the boots on and you just step down and you just get a wet foot. If you have the boots then you don't get a wet foot!"

The Christmas Film You need to watch!
This will be a review of a muppets movie.
When thinking of the greatest pirate stories of our time, the classic tale of Treasure Island pops into mind. However, I'd argue that the best depiction of this tale is through The Muppets directed by Brian Henson (Whose wife is Ferris Bueller's girlfriend) It's childish, humorous, and fun and that's alright. I will now go into each part of the film breaking down the best parts and the worst.
Story - The story is a classic and the Muppets don't change that. There isn't a moment I was not interested and it keeps up the movement of the film through timeless musical numbers. The story depicts a young Jim Hawkins attempting to discover buried treasure after being given the map by Billy Connoly. He manages to find a ship from Fonzie and they travel the seven seas with Kermit at the helm. For a child story, there are several detailed arcs the characters go through as the story progresses with the main ones that stick out to me being that of Fonzie, Loooong John, and Sweetums. By the time the story is finished these pirates are different muppets as the harsh time on the sea has changed them.
Characters - Jim - This kid is a decent main protagonist however comes off a bit whiney but thank god he has Gonzo and the Mouse dude because they save his character with them struggling with their friendship as the film carries on finally being able to come together as family. Looooong John - In this film there are some actors who just go all out and Looong John is no exception played magnificently by Tim Curry. He is an evil pirate who through Jim learns to respect and care for once again getting over his greed and revenge path. However, in a shocking twist at the end, the character is redeemed but still chooses greed resulting in his demise. Kermit - Kermit is epic in this film. Does he act like a cuck around miss Piggy? Yes. Is he a weakling? Yes. Does he require a bird thing and a child to save him? Yes. But he is Kermit, and he is a frog who in the end rises to the challenge to save everyone disarming Loooong John. Sweetums - Sweetums is the best character in the film realistically. He appears to have a harsh exterior with his large body and menacing look but when it came down to it. He saves the Muppets and could be considered the actual hero of the story because he "Loves you guys!" Rizzo and Gonzo - Great supporting characters. All-round made the film better. Fonzy - Known for his stupidity in this film it is a running joke he is useless. However, he proves himself in the film by being trusted and pilots the ship with ease getting the crew to safety.
Music - This wouldn't be a fair review if I didn't talk about the music. Composed by Hans Zimmer of Inception and Dark Knight fame. I truly believe this is his best work, creating pieces like Cabin Fever, Shiver my Timbers, and Sailing for Adventure. These music pieces are magical truly making this movie what it is. I'll link below all the songs for you to listen to:
youtube
Overall, this film deserves to be a 10/10 movie I can't fault it bar one scene where Jim Hawkins says something he just wouldn't say to Looong John and for that, it gets a 9/10.

I just watched the 2004 Series of Unfortunate Events film for the first time... since 2004.  What the fuck, this movie is like? Good? It kinda fudges a few things, like Aunt Josephine’s whole character, but like? The production design? The color palettes? The comedic timing? The CAST? Meryl Streep, BIlly Connoly, like damn. I found myself surprisingly into all of it. Like, strictly as a film and not as an adaptation of a beloved book series, it’s really good. As a book adaptatgion, well, I’ve seen -less- faithful takes on easier to adapt stories. This rewatch also informed me that the Netflix adaptation  has a lot of the 2004 productions DNA in it. The sillier Count Olaf, the timeless quality to the setting, etc. But like wow. I’m amazed this didn’t get a sequel???? And that it took so long for another crack to be made at it. Between this and Dr Robotnik, Jim Carrey should play more villains. I like villains who are goofy but still threatening.

Lemony Snicket: Una serie de eventos desafortunados (2004)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
