kind of insane crossover au came to me in a dream wherein I realized a character from resi 4 dresses exactly like kurt and i had to draw it. and I really liked the idea of putting them in this situation even thought it makes zero sense. if you don't know the plot of the game (i assume most of you don't) kurt would be the president's (yeah of the united states) son who was kidnapped and blaine is a character sent to rescue him. and it's one of the best video games of all time btw
this is extremely niche and pretty much just For Me but i spent a while on it and like how it came out so here. take it

On 17th September 1910 Andrew Blain Baird, working as a blacksmith in Rothesay, made the first flight by an entirely Scottish designed and built aeroplane.
Andrew Blain Baird was born in 1862 in Sandhead on Luce Bay in the Rhinns of Galloway, Scotland. One of three sons, his father was a fisherman and handloom weaver. He became an apprentice to a blacksmith in Sandhead, worked as a lighthouse keeper on Lismore, then as an ironworker at Smith and McLean’s on the Clyde shipyards before finally setting up on his own as a blacksmith at 113 High Street in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, when he was 25.
Baird was a daring thinker, a pioneer and innovator. He created many improvements to the plough, built a unique model of the triple expansion engine powered by electricity and was one of the original members of the Scottish Aeronautical Society.
Eager to expand his knowledge of aviation, Baird corresponded with the early aviators Louis Bleriot and S. F. Cody and exchanged information about construction of aircraft and their flight. Inspired by a visit to Blackpool for England’s first ever Aviation Week in October 1909, he returned to Rothesay ready to design and build his own sophistocated monoplane similar to Bleriot’s but with an engine built by the Alexander Brothers in Edinburgh that was 4-cylinder, air-cooled and with water-cooled valves. The control system he would design for his aircraft would be unlike anything that had been developed at the time. His wife sewed brown trussore silk for the wings.
The Baird monoplane, once completed in his own shop in the summer of 1910, went on show at an exhibition in the Esplanade Flower Garden at the front of Bute. and then to the amazement and excitement of all it was moved to the Bute Highland Games on 20 August 1910.
From there it was taken for storage and readying directly to a barn owned by Willie Dickie at his farm at Cranlasgvourity, Bute.
Scottish aviation history was about to be made when in the very early morning of 17 September 1910, the Baird Monoplane was taken by a Mr Scott on his horse-drawn wagon to Ettrick Bay - with its wide expanse of sand reminiscent of the Kitty Hawk N.C. site chosen by the Wright Brothers for their historic flight.
In the sunshine and amid the wide golden sands of Ettrick Bay the first entirely Scottish designed and built plane sat ready to make history.
Andrew Baird was, on that day, assisted by his friend Ned Striven who was an Electrical Engineer with the Burgh of Rothesay and who had assisted him with the engine and related design considerations.
There on the wide expanse of Ettrick Bay beach, Baird and Ned Striven started the engine. All was ready. Hearts raced with anticipation. A small crowd looked on in amazement. And the flight into history began.
Flight Magazine on 24 September 1910,[1] described it as follows:
“Mr Baird was seated in the machine and on the engine being started the plane travelled along the sands at good speed. Naturally, on clearing the ground, the swerving influence of the axle ceased and the influence of the steering wheel brought the machine sharply round to the right causing it to swoop to the ground. The contact was so sharp that the right wheel buckled and the right plane suffered some abrasion by scraping along the beach.”
Andrew Blain Baird had realised his dream - he had flown in an aircraft of his own design and construction.
His was the first entirely Scottish flight of a heavier than air powered craft.
Noted pioneer aircraft manufacturer Tommy Sopwith sailed his yacht into Rothesay Bay in 1910 to visit the Marquess and to attend the Highland Games and there viewed the on display Baird monoplane. Very impressed, he was given permission to incorporate some of Baird’s innovations into the aircraft he was designing and which would have such a great impact on the course of World War I. Over the years, many others from around the world involved in aviation consulted Andrew Baird and learned from his pioneering experience and innovative mind.

Tis the Damn Season
Day 4: Presentation
AO3
Honestly, Blaine was trying his darndest to pay attention to his classmates. This group was going on about existentialism and quoting Kierkegaard.
“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.”
He really was trying to listen. Of all of the philosophies the class discussed this semester, existentialism made the most sense to Blaine. It was all about taking life into your own hands, finding your own meaning in the day to day, personal freedom, etc…
Blaine was thankful his own group had gone first because by the third presentation he was losing focus fast and he liked Kierkegaard. But all he could think about was sharing a cup of coffee with Kurt merely two hours ago. Well, they didn’t really share the coffee. It was more of a coffee date. But not so much as a date as a “hey you’re here, I’m here, let’s sit together and drink warm beverages.”
He didn’t really know what to think about it. They had talked about school. Kurt was a year older than Blaine. He told him not to worry too much about his gen-ed classes because they really weren’t so bad.
“What math are you taking?” Kurt asked.
“Pre-calc.”
“Okay smarty, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. When you get to science though make sure you take Earth and Space with Willis. He’s the best professor in that department.”
Blaine asked him about his classes. Learning a little of what was to come. Apparently Dance with Cassie was a nightmare and a half. Blaine was already dreading it.
“Heading home for the holidays?” Blaine asked, curiously where home was for Kurt.
“I am. Last year I couldn’t really afford the plane ticket but I regretted it so much I started saving money in a separate bank account just for my trips home. You?”
It wasn’t that Blaine wasn’t missing home. He was. And he knew his friends from Dalton would be heading back too. He wanted to catch up with the Warblers—former and current. And Dalton was so pretty when it snowed.
But his parents had just come up for thanksgiving a few weeks ago. Blaine was excited to see his older brother, Cooper, who was flying in from California for the holidays.
“Yeah I’m heading home too, my brother is coming back. He lives on the West Coast. I only really see him twice a year so that’ll be nice.”
Blaine snapped back into class when the applause started. Finally the existialists were finished.
“I believe we have time for some last group,” his professor said. “Let’s get the nihilists up here.”

1 - coffee shop au for your most self-indulgent rare pair
"I've got a medium drip for Blaine!" Willie called, laying the drink on the counter. "And a grande nonfat mocha for Kurt!" He smiled at the very cute (and obviously together) guys that came up to fetch their drinks and Willie waved as they went off, hand in hand.
Looking at the clock though, Willie groaned. He knew he'd regret taking the double shift, but he had rent to pay and paints to buy, so the money was appreciated. He knew if he really wanted to he could ask Caleb for help, but he hadn't gotten that bad yet.
Maybe it was foolish, given Caleb was wealthy as Croesus, and more than happy to give his beloved foster song whatever he wanted. But he also was a self made man, and Willie wanted to prove he could do the same, make a mark for himself without it being because of Caleb's money or name.
Thus working at a coffee shop for shit hours while he got his Graphic Design degree, plus his Art minor. Maybe a useless degree to some, but he had already designed a few ads that kept his fridge stocked, and a job lined up for once he had his diploma next year. Giving him lots of time to work on his art, maybe even sell some of it.
All in all, Willie didn't have many complaints in his life.
Except perhaps that it didn't include any romance. Willie had been tragically single since he and Dante went kaput, and well seeing happy couples sit five feet away on dates and morning after drinks kind of stung.
Case in point, the super hot guys that just walked in. A blond in a pink hoodie with a honest to goodness fanny pack. The other with dark slicked back hair and in a leather jacket. They contrasted beautifully and the sappy looks they gave each other made Willie ache.
But he threw on his customer service smile, and greeted them. "Hey there, what can I get for you?"
"I'll have a large iced chai tea latte," the leather jacket wearing one said.
"Oat milk cappuccino please," the blond replied.
"Lex you know you'll be wired all night if you drink that now."
"Well Reginald, if I don't I'm gonna fall asleep at my drumset tonight. So caffiene me up."
"You guys in a band?" Willie asked, giving them their total.
"Yeah, Sunset Curve," Reginald said, shooting him finger guns. "Tell your friends!"
"We're playing the Satellite tonight," Lex said. "You should come check us out."
Willie's smile faded at that. "Aw man, if I didn't have to open tomorrow I totally would. I've heard of you guys, you're really good."
"Thanks, I'm Reggie by the way. This is Alex."
"Willie." Then he blushed as Alex shoved their change and a few extra bills into the tip jar.
"Well we go on at nine, so if you wanna come even just for an hour, we'd love to have you there," Alex said.
"I'll get them to set a ticket out for you if you want," Reggie offered.
"Why would you do that?" Willie asked. "You don't know me."
Reggie blushed and shrugged. "Always was a sucker for a pretty face, plus we always try to do right by our fans."
"You think I'm cute?" Willie asked with a smirk, sitting his chin on his palms. "Well neither of you are hard on the eyes either."
"T-thanks," Alex stuttered, turning the softest pink, rivalling his hoodie.
Sure Willie knew that they might only be complimenting him for a one night tumble with a third, but hey, he wouldn't exactly turn the chance down. It wasn't an epic romance, but it was more than he'd been offered lately.
Plus he didn't think he'd kick either of them outta bed given the chance.
"Ahem, your drinks are ready," Fuego called from down the counter, rolling his eyes at them.
Alex and Reggie both grinned, still flushed, and they took their drinks, but neither of them rushed to leave, almost reluctant to say goodbye to Willie. But then Alex got a text that made his face screw up and he muttered that they had to get to sound check.
"I'll try to make it tonight," he promised.
"Hope you do!" Reggie exclaimed.
"See you tonight Willie!" Alex called, yanking Reggie out and into the street, Willie watching them go.
He got back to work, restocking and cleaning between each lull, wondering if he could squeeze in a nap after work. Only then, firtune smiled on him and Mabel came in, asking if he would switch shifts with her tomorrow, meaning he would work the closing shift, letting him stay out late, and even sleep in the next day.
He was pretty quick to agree to the change, and took his share of the tips before flying home. He found he was too amped for a nap, but he managed to wash the worst of the coffee stink off himself and picked out his cutest crop top and snazziest socks.
And given the hungry, predatory looks that Alex and Reggie gave him as they spotted him from the stage? Well he figured he chose well.
And the next morning, when they woke him up with kisses and coffee from his cupboards? He knew he did.

Steamboat Willie (1928)
2024 had opened with the greatest rejoicing among fans of Disney and old school animation. After 95 years, the earliest version of Mickey Mouse is now in the public domain and is owned by the public. Immediately after midnight, YouTube account "Corridor" uploaded the iconic Disney short "Steamboat Willie" and as of this writing, the video has 376,000 views and is sure to go up. I thought I would celebrate by reviewing this 7 minute masterpiece which shows the inception of an American icon.
Tumblr media
The cartoon opens with the famous shot of Mickey commanding a steamboat down the river, although without the permission of his boss, the giant Peg-Leg Pete (although without the Peg-Leg). Mickey is forced to do his chores while Pete's parrot taunts him. The steamboat picks up a bunch of animals including a cow and a goat. Minnie is also picked up and the two have fun playing music when the goat eats sheet music of "Turkey In The Straw" that Minnie brought aboard. The fun continues as Mickey and Minnie play the animals like musical instruments, using a duck quack, the cow's teats and a bull's set of teeth. Pete discovers the jam and orders Mickey to peel potatoes, again with the parrot taunting over him, but Mickey throws one of the potatoes to shut the parrot up, ending the cartoon.
Tumblr media
"Steamboat Willie" is every bit the piece of film that is found in every montage celebrating the cinema of the 20th century. Mickey at the helm of the Steamboat is as iconic as Charles Foster Kane whispering "Rosebud" or Rick Blaine saying "Here's looking at you kid". And yet, the animation is primitive, the music by future Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies composer Carl W. Stalling is generic and the dialogue is unintelligible. All of that can be excused due to the art of animation being in the developmental stages and that it was the first animated sound film. Taken for what it is, "Steamboat Willie" resonates with people of all ages just for the very idea that it was Mickey Mouse's debut to the world and that's what really matters. It's the same thing with "The Jazz Singer", despite being the first full length talkie, it is really a mediocre film, and had it not been for the history, no one would care for it. If anything, the flaws are actually the most fascinating part.
Tumblr media
Back in 1928, "Steamboat Willie" was the warmup feature for a now lost film called "Gang War" starring Jack Pickford (brother of Mary) and Olive Borden. The audience were blown away by Mickey Mouse, for the sheer brilliance of the cartoon as if it was other worldly. Also, the fact that "Gang War" was another early talkie that most likely was devoid of a musical score and the dialogue tended to be bland and inaudible. The film was panned by critics calling it another cliche flick. The critics had all the kind words for the cartoon preceding the feature which was more revolutionary. The audience demanded "Steamboat Willie" be repeated and the rest is history. I wonder if a copy of "Gang War" will surface and if it will find a new audience who might be receptive due to its association with "Steamboat Willie". Maybe, maybe not.
Tumblr media
What will come from this new public domain status for early Mickey Mouse? Much like the plays of Shakespeare or the art of Leonardo Da Vinci, there is an audience willing to put their interpretation of the classic character in their own art, literature or parody. 2024 and beyond should and will be filled with endless possibilities.

Of all the things I love about Dumbing of Age (and Willis’s work as a whole,) the Superheroic Action Sequence As Vehicle For Character Development is one of my favorites. I loved the kidnapping arc! Was it realistic? Eh. This comic had a superhero. Do I care? Of course not. My all-time favorite moment they’ve ever written is “I die because I’m fucking awesome. (You die because you’re a shitstain.)” My second-favorite, though the last Shortpacked wedding is a close runner-up in third, is probably when across continuities, Blaine finally realizes that Amber is everything, without him. (Second link’s the strip that the first link calls back to, there, if you’d rather have it in chronological order.) Realism can get fucked if it spurs a good action sequence/defiant reason you suck speech.
One of my OTHER favorite things about Dumbing of Age is how Willis can give us a moment where a character gets to be totally awesome, and the audience cheers, and then a few months or say, three years down the line he pulls that moment out again only this time we get to see how THAT EXACT MOMENT seriously traumatized the character doing it, because we didn’t get a key piece of their perspective at the time and THEY are not viewing it as the audience. The classic for me is, of course, “Amber punches her shitty abusive dad in the face (and then as commenters at the time pointed out, smartly gets the fuck out of there and puts a bunch of people who try to deescalate things between him and her) -> Amber is horrified by her capacity for violence and the fact that she ENJOYED punching her shitty abusive dad in the face.” There are others.
And today, it’s Dorothy’s turn as we take the “Future commander-in-chief” strip from earlier in that arc and explore the idea that over the timeskip, Dorothy tried to capitalize on it… when it’s also the moment she left a man to die, and now she’s having second thoughts. (To be clear, he had it coming and there was likely nothing she and her fellow hostages could have done to stop it. Also, he was literally holding her hostage. But do you really think traumatic reactions care about that shit?)
*Admiringly* Damn you, Willis.

What are the main four based off??
Frankly, Redzo and Blaine are based off an old dream I had that was a year ago.
(October 5 is the first ever anniversary!! Yipee!!)
But to be more honest in a way, Redzo is pretty much heavily based off of Elmo, as they are a red monster.
Blaine could be based off of Big bird, or something like Gonzo the great, as they don’t really have a somewhat confirmed species.
I don’t really know how to consider Arty in a way, I think they were especially based off of multiple characters, I cannot remember what some of the characters were lol
I remember they were based off of Arty the alligator (Willy’s wonderland) and I think Jirachi from Pokémon??
(I’m a month late, whatever lmao -Eli)

Here is our team before the Blaine fight! He will be using Dragon types, which tend to learn flamethrower and other fire type moves, so I used a reverser on Endless Sky to turn them from Ice Grass to Grass Water. I am planning to lead Marmalade and try to set up, and also bring along Willie Nelson and his ice fang, Fire Alien, and obviously I am planning on bring endless sky as well!

Inspired by a visit to Blackpool for England’s first ever Aviation Week in October 1909, he returned to Rothesay ready to design and build his own sophisticated monoplane similar to Bleriot’s but with an engine built by the Alexander Brothers in Edinburgh that was 4-cylinder, air-cooled and with water-cooled valves.
Flight Magazine on 24th September 1910,described it as follows:
Over the years, many others from around the world involved in aviation consulted Andrew Baird and learned from his pioneering experience and innovative mind

Update
Well, well, well. It has been a while since I have posted here. Apologies for the hiatus. I will say that I finished that book, A Tale of 7 Elements, and I have purchased many books since then. I am mostly keeping track of my book reading on Goodreads but not always giving reviews or summaries of what I have read. In the past few days, I was inspired to start writing about the books I’m currently reading, so that is why I’m back. Honestly, I doubt that I will get a chance to finish all the books I’ve managed to collect since I mostly read when I feel inspired to.
Here is a list of books I’ve recently purchased in the past 24 months and I hope to read. They are listed in no particular order other than just by grabbing what’s nearest to me. 1. Chocobo and the Airship: Final Fantasy Picture Book I’d be lucky to read half of these. There are more books that I’ve purchased but not listed, as well as books that I’ve purchased and finished reading (which are recorded on my Goodreads account.) I hope not to call this an obsession, but I am strongly interested in paranormal and magic topics due to personal experiences but also perhaps an innate or intuitive calling to learn. The thing is that if I’m reading and I’m not learning something profound or “aligned with intuition” then it is hard to continue reading because it is not as important to me at this time. But I accept that if I don’t finish, or if I take a break, it’s okay. I don’t have to tell myself that I lack discipline, it is just that other information is more important at this time. Anyway, wish me luck in finishing these books!
