A-T-3 239 Bobby Eli
Back from my holiday, well I'm physically back home but mentally I'm still away
Bobby Eli sadly passed away last week. He was a founding member of MFSB and a session guitarist on many many Philadelphia classics. Aside from this if you read credits on records you'll know he was a prolific songwriter (often in partnerships), arranger, and producer. His credits include Jackie Moores' This Time Baby, Magic Touch by Rose Royce, Zoom by Fat Larry's Band, and wrote a handful of soul standards like Blue Magic's Sideshow (also known as Three Ring Circus), Ronnie Dyson/The Main ingredients' Just Don't Want to Be Lonely, and Major Harris's Love Won't Make Me Wait
Eli wrote and produced an album for Engelbert Humperdinck, he also wrote and arranged for Wilson Pickett, First Choice, Ecstasy Passion & Pain, Barbara Mason, Detroit Spinners, Sister Sledge, Atlantic Starr, Cashmere; and had his songs have been recorded by Marlena Shaw, Luther Vandross, Isaac Hayes, Jean Carne
Many of Bobby Eli's songs were popular with Reggae and Lovers Rock artists such as Marcia Griffiths, Barry Biggs, Derrick Harriott, Trevor Walters, Janet Kay... Barry Biggs recording of Sideshow is a reggae classic
What a career!
1983 and Booker Newberry III had a number 6 UK singles chart hit with Love Town. Booker Newberry III had been in Impact a group Eli and written and produced in the past. It was Bobby Eli and Len Barry who wrote Love Town and Eli produced it

Love Town wasn't Eli's only record of 1983, he was reunited again with Jackie Moore and produced this little boogie gem for Venus

Grammy’s Obituary❤️ McLendon – Virginia Lee McLendon, age 86, of Waldo, Florida went to her Heavenly Home on December 17, 2022, at Magnolia Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville, Florida. Virginia was born in O’Brien, Florida on July 7, 1936, to the late Wayne Leroy Lee and Alma Webb Lee. Virginia was raised in Suwannee County and graduated from Suwanee County High School in 1954. Virginia met and dated her best friend, Darrell McLendon, before he was drafted into the United States Army. Upon his return, Darrell and Virginia were happily married on July 3, 1955, and enjoyed 60 amazing married years together. In 1957, they made Waldo their forever home and became members of the First Baptist Church of Waldo. Virginia proudly served as a School Cafeteria Manager at Waldo Community School where she worked for 20 years until retiring. Virginia was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family the most, but had a passion for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Virginia and her family also loved worshipping the Lord and listening to gospel music. For years they traveled to listen to “The Inspirations” Gospel group and even planned family vacations around gospel singing. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts and cooking. She made her children’s clothing for years always made with special love. Virginia will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell McLendon; brother, Jerry Lee; sister, Loiselle Standridge; sister-in-law, Gladys Lee; and brother-in-law, Elmer Standridge. Virginia is survived by her children, Debbie (Glenn) Gay of Starke, FL and Eddie (Tiffani) McLendon of Newberry, FL; brothers, Edward “Buddy” (Helen) Lee of Luraville, FL, Terry Lee of Tallahassee, FL, and Leroy (Diane) Lee of Live Oak, FL; sisters, Edna ( Craig ) Elixson of Worthington Springs, FL, Lynette Blankenship of Live Oak, FL,; her 6 grandchildren, Lena (Bobby) Fulton, Michelle (Daren) Whitehead, Darrell (Jana Hammet) McLendon, Mehgan (Kyle) Wilson, Cody Thomas, and Tristian (Violet) Hester; and her great grandchildren, Remy Wilson and Elena Whitehead. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmaAhl9OAj_kMlXJ8IKUUoEy2c6bybYPEVruEQ0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
