It's all that braves have taught us
Brave Series 30th Anniversary Song Zenbu Yuusha ga Oshiete Kureta by Masaaki Endoh
lyric translation by me; expand for text lyrics
We gotta be brave! To run all the way through to anywhere, we gotta be brave!
Did our sky become narrower? Look up, and you'll know There still are things we can do Against the unknown dangers that we will face throw away the readymade ideas Mind reset It's a chance for evolution
We gotta be brave! To run all the way through to anywhere, to protect the future that may shine, stand up and fight, with the companions of heart It's all that braves It's all that braves have taught us
Did you fulfill your dreams from the days gone by? It's yet too early to look back We're always on our journey The barrier standing in our way When you clash against it Remember, no trials we cannot overcome Angle change Break through with the newfound power
We gotta be brave! To protect the people dear to us we vow to keep on fighting Everyone suffers, and yet they become stronger It's all that braves It's all that braves have taught us
Go with me! Exkaiser Burning! Fighbird We can fly! Da Garn Get away! Might Gaine Heart to heart! J-Decker The true energy! Goldran Shine! Dagwon Ga-ga-ga-ga- Gaogaigar
Courage! It shall never fade away It's the legacy engraved in hearts Courage! It shall never fade away It's the legacy engraved in our hearts It's all that braves have taught us

Brave Command Dagwon and how it reignited my interest in Super Robots.
Tumblr media
I have a bit of a confession. I was a bit of a Super Robot fan before being a Gundam fan. The shows I was exposed with back in the day were things like Daimos, the original Aquarion, and RahXephon. Let's just say 2010-2012 me was once into anime, largely due to having cable back in the day, and one of the channels we had was Hero TV.
Fast forward to the present day, and these days I'm more of a Tokusatsu fan than an Anime fan, other than Gundam at least. What kicked my fascination with the Brave series was the release of the RG GaoGaiGar, and said release led me into a rabbit hole of Brave content.
And then, out of sheer boredom, I decided to watch one of the various entries of the Brave series, that being The Brave Command Dagwon, and I ended up liking it.
The first thing that caught my eye when watching this was how much it felt like a Super Sentai series (hence why I think of this as a Sentai-like show, much like with the Chouseishin & Tomica Hero series). Not only that, much like it's successor, GaoGaiGar, the humans become giant robots.
The Dagwon cast were someone I ended up growing to love, even the supporting cast such Maria, Gaku, and Luna. The mechs in the series were awesome, my personal favorite would end up being Super Fire Dagwon. And that final arc was *chef's kiss*.
I would wholeheartedly recommend for those who are fans of Sentai, as well as those getting into the Brave series.

I’ll probably skip Dagwon. I prefer the mecha characters to be sentient. I’ll always prefer Transformers over Gundam, y’know? It’s like that.

Well, Brave Command Dagwon is a good mech rec. It's like power rangers but mecha anime. Or kind of the same flavor but a slightly different one would be the brave fighter of Legend da-gran
Ooh, okay. I’ll check those two out. Thanks!
That robot has my attention, for sure.

Sometimes i remember certain shows and when i bringt it up to the friend, you dont know the amount of sheer joy, shits and giggles i feel when having to explain the shows asburd plot.
Like just the other day in discord i was explaining to a friend an old anime called brave command dagwon, and i was telling them that space cop aliens are a thing and that in that show theres a floating space prison and how the prisoners rioted and took over and tried to take over earth, how there was one episode that had space ant aliens who tried to colonize the earth.
What was more absurd and shocking to them was when i explain that the space alien ants were criminals and they went like:
Friend:"i...they were criminals?"
Me:"yes ess they were criminals"
Friend:"but they were...ants?"
Me:"yep"
And the best part was when they were sarcastically like " ofc there are"when i explained gunkid and lain and how the one could transform into a giant sized robot hand gun and the other an ovesized robot sword

(!) Spoilers for some important scenes in Exkaiser, Fighbird, Da Garn, Might Gaine, Dagwon and Gaogaigar, and a trigger warning for robots getting damaged in case you're a robot or A.I. yourself (!)
(!) Flash warning (!)
This is a compilation of all scenes I could find of the protagonists having their facemask be blown to bits.
J-Decker and Goldran were the only ones who did not get their masks obliterated.

-- 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝒂𝒈𝒘𝒐𝒏 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 -- Now, I think it’s time I drop the bombshell of one of the side project of the tokusatsu ventures I’ve been posting: The Brave series. There is a lot to be said of the Brave franchise, but the long story short is that it is such a diverse set of shows that are equal parts great in entertainment value as they are in well written dramas. Brave feels like a franchise that is the showrunners and animators being able to sneak in tributes to their childhood loves into a mecha show, and Dagwon follows suit by being kinda like a love letter to Ultra (something Brave loves paying homage to) and now an inclusion of the Super Sentai with a team of heroes of varying popping colors and personalities that transform into mostly human-sized heroes. Dagwon spins the Brave formula into something that feels energetic, lively, and familiar but in a different setting. With an entire squad of dorky losers who save the world but unlike previous are not separate entities from the mechas (this was an element that Fighbird had), in my eyes this is the true conclusion of the Brave series in terms of combining the previous entries. Sure, GaoGaiGar is the big sendoff that takes everything and everyone but Dagwon pulls from the previous shows Exkaiser, Fighbird, Might Gaine, Da-Garn, J-Decker, Goldran and creates a show that feels like a sendoff to the original form of the franchise while also being new. The biggest eyecatcher to people who love character designs is that the team is comprised of familiar looking aesthetics that fans of manga and anime of the 70s-90s may point to. The mecha forms as well also have elements that feel familiar to either previous Brave series and to a degree other mecha as well. It feels so...genuine. I think the strength of the show, like any Brave series, is the drama. Brave and Drama are a horse and carriage, without the element of drama how can the show be carried? So Dagwon, in many ways, dials up the drama to give us really great character specific episodes that really dive into what our cast is as characters and as people. It breathes in this drama to make the shining moments or even dower moments hit the viewer, and especially once the show kicks to high gear is when this comes to full.  Worthwhile watch? Absolutely, especially if you are convinced by such a very thought dumping review as this. This show has the right elements of a series, and while not my favorite, is far and done a really great show.
