CHAPTER THREE BONUS!
word count - 1.3k
warnings - marijuana use (again)
a/n - hello! this is a little Tyson pov bonus because it feels weird to me departing from Maddie like that. so, ta-da! i might do some more of these but i had to do this one because it was such a specific moment i planned that i had to write it down. okay, enjoy!! (takes place during chapter three, just a different pov!)
“Let’s go boys.”
With those words, Tyson leads his friends out of Madeleine’s apartment and down the hallway. Their quiet conversations behind him bounce off the beige walls and fill the quiet nicely. When they arrive at the elevator, Tyson turns back to them.
“Hey, thanks for coming guys. It really means a lot, not only to me but also to Madeleine.”
“Not a problem dude,” Nate says.
“Yeah. Gives us something to do,” Cale laughs, his contagious grin appearing to which Tyson returns before the chime of the elevator sounds and the doors slide open. They all huddle into the small cube and Burky hits the button for the lobby.
“So, tell us about Madeleine,” Nate requests as the elevator begins its descent.
“What do you what to know?”
“Anything, I suppose. Whatever you want to tell us.”
“I mean, I’ve known her since we were both kids. We grew up in Kelowna together. She went to Calgary for university while I went off to North Dakota and we sort of lost touch. We actually just reconnected like 6 months ago.”
“Six months and she’s moved out here for you?” Ryan asks.
“She didn’t move out here for me. We’re not, like, together. We’re just friends. She moved to Colorado for a job, at DU actually Right across the street,” Tyson explains, the insinuation rattling him slightly. He is thankfully saved by the elevator dinging again and they all file out of the elevator. Tyson trails slightly behind as the rest of the guys move forward, other conversations starting, some of which were about the move, some of which were completely unrelated. He doesn’t even notice that JT isn’t a part of them until the ginger appears by his side.
“Just friends, huh?” JT asks, his voice a little teasing but Tyson can hear the genuine question laced underneath.
“What do you want Comph?”
“Nothing. It just when we walked it, you guys seemed a little more than just friendly.”
“We were dancing. Madeleine was getting stressed and I was just helping her out.”
“You help her out a lot?”
“Yeah, that’s what friends do,” Tyson replies, a little bit of roughness sneaking into his words at JT’s incessant pestering.
“And the fresh flowers sitting on the kitchen counter was just… what?”
“A housewarming gift,” he states, his tone and words signaling the end of the conversation.
“Alright, alright, fine. You and Madeleine are just friends. So, I guess that means you won’t care that both Nate and Cale were talking about how pretty she is, right?”
JT doesn’t wait for Tyson’s reply, bounding ahead to where Nate, Cale, Ryan, and Burky were all gathered in front and inside the small moving truck. Tyson just stares after him, processing his words.
It shouldn’t bother him. Madeleine was beautiful – he’d be an idiot to pretend that she wasn’t. But then why did the thought of his teammates looking at her that way set a small fire in his chest?
He doesn’t have any time to decipher his feelings before Nate and Burky start to move towards him, a piece of Madeleine’s bedframe carried between them.
Tyson swipes Maddie’s key card and holds open the door, choosing to focus on the task at hand instead of the pestering voice in the back of his mind.
~~~
This was a great night. Him and the rest of the boys helped Madeleine put together almost the entirety of her apartment and now, they were just winding down after a full and busy day. The joints passed between all of them certainly contributed to the calm that had settled over them all.
Tyson sits on the rug in the living room, his eyes connected to Madeleine’s frame directly across from him. She looks gorgeous. She always did but right now, the way her blonde hair fell and how peaceful she looks, with her eyes closed, her chest slowly rising and falling… she was beautiful.
He didn’t even mind that her feet were in Cale’s lap and Nate’s hands were mindlessly stroking her hair.
Tyson thinks to himself that he’s proved JT’s assumption wrong. He almost wants to turn to JT, to tell him ‘see, I told you it doesn’t matter if other people like her’ when he feels the vibration of a phone going off. He looks down next to him and sees Madeline’s phone, in its practical black phone case, light up with a text notification.
He can’t see much else – except for the name accompanying the message.
Logan
There’s a unique kind of rage that ignites in Tyson at the sight, having a pretty strong idea of who was texting Madeleine and remembering the confrontation back in Calgary with someone who shared that name.
Who else could it be? How many Logans could Maddie even know?
Without really thinking, Tyson picks up Maddie’s phone, swiping up on the screen.
“Hey, Madeleine, what’s your passcode?”
“Why?” Madeleine asks in response, but not bothering enough to open her eyes.
“Mine died and I’m thinking about calling the guys an Uber,” Tyson says, the lie falling from his lips.
“What about your cars?”
“We can pick them up tomorrow.”
“Okay, it’s 1-6-0-4,” she says opening her eyes and turning to look at Tyson before her gaze flickers to the rest of the boys lounging around the room. “But if you guys don’t want to pay, you can always crash here. I don’t mind,” Madeleine replies, her slight concern making JT chuckle.
“Madeleine, we’re NHL players.”
“Yeah, we don’t mind paying for an Uber,” Cale adds, taking a small drag before holding out the joint to Maddie.
“Oh I’m so sorry. Please continue to tell me all about your big… contracts,” she says, her voice like velvet as she takes the spliff from Cale’s hands, her fingers dancing over his, the innuendo heavy in her tone. However, the words are almost instantly accompanied by Madeline’s cackling laugh, most likely at the even stronger rush of red that painted Cale’s cheeks, earning a few chuckles from the rest of the guys.
Tyson can’t stop his jaw from clenching at the interaction and of course, that’s when JT shoots a curious glance in his direction. Tyson ignores the ginger’s brown eyes on him and instead punches in Maddie’s passcode. Although what he sees when he opens her messages makes him grind his teeth even more.
Logan Hey, I miss you. I spent all day yesterday thinking about you and Maddie, I fucked up. I know I did. I just miss you baby. Please give me another chance. Received September 5th at 9:42pm
Tyson looks up from the screen and across the way to where Madeleine lays. She’s still relaxed against his friends, giggling at something Andre said. She was happy. Happier than when Tyson last saw her that night in April. Happier than she was in Calgary. Probably happier than she ever was with Logan.
No, she didn’t belong up there. She didn’t belong to him.
She was meant to be here.
Without thinking, Tyson clicks the small camera icon next to Logan’s message, angling the phone towards Madeleine, Nate and Cale before snapping a picture. He looks to make sure that he got Maddie’s smile and presses send. But not before hastily typing up the accompanying message:
She’s forgotten all about you.
He doesn’t wait for Logan’s reply. Instead, he hits the contact information, first blocking the number and then deleting the contact permanently from Madeleine’s phone. Tyson almost throws down the device afterwards, maybe a little too forcefully because the sound of it thudding against the floor makes Ryan turn towards him.
“Everything alright?”
“Everything’s perfect,” Tyson replies, looking back to Madeleine.
Perhaps he might have crossed a line. Perhaps he might have to answer for his childish actions later. But right now, he doesn’t care.
Because when he looks at Maddie and sees her smile, sees her at peace, he would do it all again. He would always protect her, always comfort her, always be there for her.
Because he cares about her.
Because he loves her. Even after all this time.
Still.
Her.
;; Something Old Chapter One of Just Me & You for @wyattjohnston
Table of Contents Playlist «« 🤍 »» Chapter Two
Summary: Charlotte returns to the cabin for the first time in years for the wedding of her childhood friend Daphne and her future husband AHL Captain of the Belleville Senators: Dillon Hetherington. Word Count: 2,000+
“-get the map out of the glove box.”
It had been an order, not a suggestion. Unlike the cool breeze that had blown in through the passenger side window, tempers were rising as the car carried them down the winding roads of the provincial highway. For kilometers now, the scene had gone unchanged. The road was lined with thick, towering trees, and in the distance on the skyline the towering silhouettes of the mountains - and while it was all so familiar to Charlotte, and she was sure they had been on the right path her boyfriend, Wesley, thought otherwise.
They had been together five long years, and not once had Wesley entertained the idea of going out to the lake. He was a city boy through and through, with his car never traveling more than thirty minutes out of the city limits of Calgary. Hell, it still hadn’t. They were in a rental.
“I don’t think this thing has a map, what about the GPS on your phone?” Charlotte sighed as she pulled her feet down from where she had propped them up on the dashboard.
“I don’t have phone reception in the middle of fucking nowhere, Charlotte.”
Leaning forward, her body strained against the restriction of her seatbelt. Her back was slick with sweat as the heat of her body had not paired well with the leather seats Wes had insisted on getting during the peak of the summer heat. Careful fingers carded and sifted through the almost empty glove box. Her freshly manicured fingertips toyed with the edge of the leasing agreement for a moment before spotting a faded and tattered map buried beneath the clutter of business cards. Pinching it between her fingers she pulled it from the box and held it up almost triumphantly, but Wes’s eyes were focused on the road ahead of them with a heavy scowl consuming his face.
The flutter of the map as it was unfolded, only seemed to irritate him further as he let out an exasperated sigh and his grip around the steering wheel tightened. The noise only intensified further as the map was challenged by the gust of air that had kept the temperature of the car tolerable.
“Jesus Christ, Charlotte, close the damn window,” Wesley groaned out, but before her hand could leave the flimsy paper of the map, his hand had left the wheel and had fallen on the buttons of the power windows. With the buzz of the window going closed, the humid heat of the car returned, but with it too came silence. In that silence, they found their calm.
Charlotte traced her fingers around the familiar route that she had driven almost every summer since she was a child. From Calgary to the cabin the drive had been pretty straightforward and was no more than an hour and a half worth of driving, but for someone like Wes who had never taken the route before Charlotte was sure it felt agonizingly long. Tapping their destination on the map, Charlotte looked up and to Wesley who waited impatiently in the driver's seat for instruction.
“So how fucked are we?” His words left her eyes rolling.
“We aren’t fucked,” she countered him, “we’re almost there. There’s going to be a dirt road on the right. It’ll take us out to the cabin.”
“Dirt road,” he scoffed, his words falling into a mumble she could hear even while sitting beside him, “when we get married, we’re not doing it all the way out here.”
Charlotte almost laughed, her gaze cast out the window to watch the trees roll on by. It was always when we get married as if she already wore a ring on her finger, but Wesley had yet to propose - and after being together for so long, Charlotte was beginning to think he may never. Though, that was never something she would ever admit to him or anyone. Instead, she let herself fall into the reassurance of him having said when, because when meant it would happen one day.
“What’s wrong with the lake? It’s beautiful out here, intimate. I really do think you’ll end up liking it, Wes,” she encouraged, her hand reaching out to rest on the strength of his thigh.
Wesley wasn’t convinced.
“You really expect everyone to make the drive all the way out here?” he cast her a glance, his dark brow raising, “to deal with the bugs, the smell of shit-” He ranted on, listing everything he could possibly hate about the rural expanse of land Alberta offered. It only worsened when Charlotte directed him to turn onto the dirt road and he was greeted by the rumble of stones against the body of the car and the embrace of its uneven surface beneath the tires, “this is going to destroy the goddamn car.”
“Hey, we’re almost there, it’s fine,” Charlotte assured, her fingers giving his thigh a reassuring squeeze, “the company had my card on file, if anything happens to the car I’ve got it covered. I’m the reason we’re coming all the way out here anyway.”
“It’ll be the first and last time I make this drive for you,” Wesley’s words were almost enough to have her recoiling. There was an annoyance in his tone, one that left her chest heavy with guilt as the bumpy road rocked her like a cradle in its embrace.
“I think you’ll change your mind by the end of the weekend,” Charlotte kept her confidence as she retracted her hand from his lap and left her eyes to focus on the road ahead.
Beyond the seemingly never-ending thick of trees that lined the way, the road soon opened its mouth to the driveway. It was narrow and looped to the front of the lakefront cabin that had been the very foundation of her childhood summers - and while it had recently received a fresh coat of paint it was all unchanged. The front porch still stood strong, the swing where her grandmother once sat with her dear friend still coasted in the gentle summer breeze, and when she looked up she could still see the same curtains hanging in the bedroom she had once called her own.
The only difference was the cars that lined the driveway. It was no longer lined with pickup trucks or station wagons, but instead rental cars and the cars that could only come with the luxury of making multiple million dollars a year - the wealth that came with playing professionally in the world of hockey.
“They’re already here!” Charlotte spoke with great excitement as her hand went to the seatbelt, unbuckling it before the car could come to a complete stop.
She made a mess of the map as she shoved it back into the glove box, and the moment she heard the locks disengage she was out the door. Charlotte’s Converse kicked up the dirt of the driveway as she left the car and Wesley behind her. She navigated around every flower bed, and up the steps, like she had done many times before, and didn’t stop until she was forced to in the entryway. It had been a collision that had stilled her, the thick, athletic body of the groom to be almost enough to knock the wind out of her.
Dillion Heatherington, was an intimidating guy if you hadn’t gotten the pleasure of knowing him further than his career on the ice. After years of being traded and bouncing around the American Hockey League, with brief stints in the National Hockey League,  he had solidified himself a place as the Captain of the Bellville Senators. He was known for his leadership and mentorship over the younger players who would ultimately go on to play for the Ottawa Senators, he was also the occasional tough guy - but Charlotte had known him long before that. She could still remember the lanky teenager he had been when he had been drafted to the Swift Current Broncos. She could still remember the first time she had met him and he had stolen her best friend’s heart.
“Alright, where is she?” Charlotte was quick to speak as she placed a friendly pat against his chest.
“It’s nice to see you too, Charlie,” Dillion laughed, his hands coming down to steady her on her feet.
“You’ve kept her away from me for too long Heatherington,” Charlotte spoke quickly, brushing off the nickname she tried to abandon almost a decade ago, “you think I’d let you get away with stealing her away from me ag-”
“CHARLIE!” her name was a shriek that echoed off the walls of the entryway and drew her eyes up to the staircase that led up to the cabin’s second story.
At first, it was a face she did not recognize, but as the feminine figure made her way down the steps with an elegant stride it quickly became clear who had called out to her.
“Holy shit, Daphne?” Charlotte gawked, abandoning her friend’s fiancé by the front door as she opened her arms to her childhood friend, “what did they do to you in Bellville?”
It hadn’t been an outlandish question to ask when the modelesque woman in front of her. Daphne no longer looked like she had when she first left Calgary at twenty-three. This shouldn’t have surprised Charlotte, they had kept in touch via social media over the years, but the daily Instagram updates didn’t do Daphne’s transformation justice. Her once fiery red hair, which had always been an eyecatcher and her signature look, was now dyed blonde. She was dressed head to toe in designer labels, wearing white as she would be all weekend, and her makeup was done to perfection as if she had a personal makeup artist to follow her from one place to the next. She was the epitome of the perfect bride. The epitome of a hockey wife.  Though she wasn’t one. Not yet, though that would change by the end of the weekend.
“You mean besides finally getting this bloke to propose?” Daphne was grinning wide as she thrust out her left hand to show off the rock of a ring on her finger.
Charlotte had seen the ring only twice before. Once on the video call she had used to make the announcement, and her social media post that followed, but the ring was even more impressive in person. “No wonder you waited to get the C before popping the question,” Charlotte teased as she took her friend's hand in both of her own carefully, “you’ve got good taste.”
“Oh no, Dilly let me pick it out,” Daphne corrected with a smile, her own eyes fixated on the impressive diamond on her finger. “He’s so busy during the season with all games and the travel I think I’m lucky he was there to propose at all,” she added, her tone teasing as she peered around Charlotte, “speaking of missing men, when am I finally going to meet Wesley?”
Charlotte cursed as she looked back towards the door, her eyes going wide as she reached for the handle, “I left him in the car!” She was almost laughing as she drew open the handle, Daphne walking out behind her as she moved out onto the porch.
Wesley had parked the car in the drive away and had been grabbing the bags, but it had been abandoned for a phone call as he stood with his back to the house and his phone to his ear. He must have finally gotten reception with the skies clear of any trees around the house.
“Wes!” she called out to him, her tone beckoning as she took a stride down the step only to stop when he raised a hand up. Silencing her without having to look at her. Her tone dropped as she looked back to Daphne, a forced smile on her lips, “it must be a work call. He’s got a big business deal he’s been trying to close…”
Her own words began to trail as Charlotte’s attention had become captured by the rumbling of another vehicle making its way down the drive. With all the cars that had been in the driveway, she hadn’t expected anyone else so her curiosity was peaked. She cast Daphne a quick glance, her dark brow raising at the sight of the large jeep as it rolled into the last vacancy on the lot as if to ask: Who else are you expecting? But Daphne made no effort to answer. Instead, she looked away in an attempt to hide the guilt that flooded her features.
Moving down the steps, Charlotte followed the same path she had taken to get to the front door, but this time her steps were a little less calculated as she stumbled into the flower bed just to get a good look at the license plate. The Manitoba license plate.
Her stomach fell, her mouth growing dry at the sight of the driver’s side door opening. It was from there, standing among the colorful perennials her grandmother once planted, she watched as an all too familiar figure stepped from the front seat and towered over anything and anyone nearby. He disappeared back into the car with his back to her for only a moment as he grabbed his bag, giving her a glimmer of hope that maybe she was imagining it all, but a symphony of barks from the golden retriever that bolted from the back seat brought her back to her grim reality. It was Adam, and he was undoubtedly Dillon’s best man.
West Ontario: Thunder Bay and Kenora
It feels like ages ago that I left Sleeping Giant as I'm currently in Calgary, three provinces further west 😅 but been busy traveling with very little internet access, so will aim to catch up by writing shorter posts! 🤞
On the way to Thunder Bay I visited the Terry Fox memorial - for non-Canadians, he was a young man who ran a "marathon of hope" to raise awareness for cancer; having started in St John's in Newfoundland, he ran 3,339 miles across Canada close to here, where he had to stop as his cancer returned & he died shortly afterwards. Supporting Terry Fox runs by friends were the first donations that I made in Canada (I must admit I never ran myself) and he has rightly so turned into an inspiration for many. The memorial serves both as a reminder that our health is the very first thing we should take care of, and as a motivation to never give up on life... ❤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Thunder Bay I did the usual errands plus an unsatisfactory visit to a BMO bank branch, where I had hoped they would reinstate my credit card after a suspicious activity... however, they only could send a new card to my friends in Dundas (where I'll be back end September 🤔) so that stressed me out but luckily with the help of great friends 😍, I received the replacement card this morning in Calgary so I can now worriless continue spending 😝.
Half an hour west from Thunder Bay I breaked for lunch at the Kakabeka Falls, the so-called "Niagara Falls of the North"... although pretty (& in a more natural setting than Niagara Falls), the comparison doesn't really hold true 🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that it was a 2hr+ drive to the little village of Ignace where I stayed in a lovely inn on a lake, run by a couple that used to live in Toronto but had moved here during the pandemic in search for a quieter life (which it certainly is with its 1,200p population!) .
Along the drive, the trees were still the same boreal forest (which I probably will never want to see again after this roadtrip 😁) and it was grey and boring so couldn't wait to stop for the day... the only interesting thing is that I changed another hour back in time, similar to Labrador not at a provincial border but just randomly somewhere 😅. Meant I had an extra hour to sit with my legs up!
Tumblr media
Next day, I made the last 3-hour push to arrive in Kenora, the most westerly town in Ontario and famous for being on the massive Lake of the Woods. The roads were much busier here with several links to the US border, and suddenly it became agricultural with rolling fields west of Dryden, a change from the forever-forest!
In the evening, the lake at my campsite at Rushing River provincial park became dead still and massive clouds turned pink when the sun set... pretty! 😍 As a really great plus, there were no longer flies and very few mosquitos which makes being outside so much nicer. As a really big negative, there was a snake that came my way when I was sitting at the picknick table chatting with a friend. After booing it away, I researched Ontario snakes and although the common eastern gartersnake is not poisonous and doesn't normally attack, I was less than pleased when it showed up next to me again! 😵
Tumblr media
In the morning, the water was still very calm so had a beautiful paddle before breakfast. I never cease to be happy when I'm on the water!! 🤩
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thereafter, I drove into town for a boat tour on the MS Kenora along tons of islands, rich houses, "devil gaps", spiritual rocks as well as 6 bald eagles. It was pretty but very hazy due to the smoke so then everything turns into the same gray-yellow hue... 🤨
After visiting an art gallery dedicated to a local painter and an interesting exhibit on the 150th anniversary of Indigenous Treaty #3 - " which will last as long as the sun will shine and the water runs, that is to say forever", it was patio time for a drink & snack with view on the lake! ☀️ Back at the campground, it was so sticky hot that I went for another little paddle to the beach and a refreshing swim 🤓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was too much wind in the morning for another paddle so spent some time cleaning out and repacking the car, throwing away any items that I hadn't used for the last two months, no point in keeping those!
Although it was a great spot on the water, the campsite was a walk-in on a slope so I ended up hating it going up & down endlessly to my car... mental note never to book that again!
Before heading out, I did a small hike along the namesake rapids that the park was created for, but it was hot & humid so not enjoyable.
Time to say goodbye to Onario and off to Manitoba!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wildlife: 1 deer (Dryden), 1 common eastern gartersnake (twice!), 6 bald eagles and 1 loud flying loon (Rushing River/Kenora)
SUPs: two at Rushing River
Hikes: one at Rushing River
Holly Rae Ellsworth-Clark has been missing from her home in Hamilton, Ontario for eight months before she was found in suspicious circumstances.
Tumblr media
The 27-year-old musician had hazel eyes with dark blonde/light brown hair and distinctive bangs. She grew up in Calgary where she completed an honours degree in political science at the University of Calgary, where she also was in the wrestling team. After college she relocated to Toronto some time in 2019 to join a band and be with her boyfriend. Neither the project nor the relationship worked out, so she moved to central Hamilton in October 2019, where she had been offered a room in a house with other musicians who aspired to form a band called Deep Bight and record at their in-house studio. The project, once again, didn't work out, so Holly Clark decided to concentrate on writing and performing solo, which she had been doing for some years. She described the music as between Velvet Underground and 90s grunge.
She uploaded videos and performances to her YouTube channel, while also performing locally at shows. She had been writing an album right before she disappeared. Her sister Kate said spending time outdoors was one of the ways Holly would combat feelings of loneliness. They used to go hiking and camping as a family, but never had Holly gone off without informing anyone.
In December of 2019, her family noticed a change in her behavior on phone calls. The usually warm and outgoing girl had become emotional and fearful when making calls home.
A few days before she went missing, her roommates called 911 after she broke into her own bedroom through the window, presumably being chased by said males. Holly was an athlete. She was a 6ft, 200lbs, three-time wrestling champion, and an outdoorsy girl. She talked to her father on the phone and told him about this incident. Her father believes that if she was scared, she was scared for a reason.
Other than the reported incident of the two men chasing her, her roommates did not report anything else strange or odd about Holly's behavior leading up to her disappearance.
One day before she went missing on January 11, she left a voice-mail to her parents. Unfortunately, they only noticed it a week after she had already vanished. The concerning message said:
"I would really like a plane to get out of Hamilton. I would really, really like a plane ticket out of Hamilton to Calgary please and I would like to come home and visit you and Dave [her father]..."
She seemed to be pleading, and was heard crying. The message continued:
"I'm missing you so much [sob] so that's all I want in the world is to see you and Dave because I love you so much [sobs]..."
Holly then tries to regain her composure, stating:
"So, um, if you could please, um - uh - help me out with a plane ticket that would be really, really, greatly appreciated. Okay, I love you. I love you and I look forward to hearing from you. Okay, bye..."
CCTV of Holly showed her walking down a road near Wentworth Street and Shaw Street at around 4:50pm, the day she went missing [and the day before her dad was going to pick her up]. She was wearing a garbage bag over her upper body as a makeshift poncho as she walked down the rain slicked street. Her father confirmed he had taught her to do this when it rained.
She didn't bring her phone or any credit cards with her, and she made no money withdrawals before or after her disappearance. She only had $45 on her. She was seen walking from her home located on the corner of Sanford and Bristol, crossing Barton street, cutting through Woodlands Park, before popping up on Wentworth Street and Shaw, with CCTV footage suddenly showing her with a garbage bag half full and slung over her shoulder. Six minutes later, surveillance outside of Wentworth Metal Recycling picks her up again. She's then seen crossing the railroad tracks on Wentworth, no longer with the garbage bag. She then vanishes. The businesses further up the road don't catch her walking by. In that small blind spot that no surveillance could catch, she disappeared. Some speculated she could have gotten into a car. She was wearing a black shirt, black pants, and black ankle boots.
Some people have said they avoid going north on Wentworth Avenue due to alleged drug trafficking and drug issues in the area.
There were three alleged sightings reported to police of Holly at Budget Hotel in east Hamilton. The hotel was not searched, as police were unable to obtain warrants. Later that day, at around midnight, another tip came in regarding the same motel, claiming they saw Holly Clark "drugged out of her mind, dragged along by another man."
Her body would later be discovered floating in Hamilton Harbour at Pier 11. Her lower legs were missing. An autopsy indicated it would be impossible to tell how she had died, as her body had been in the water so long. No injuries could be determined and there were no drugs found in her system.
Her father mentioned that Holly had plans the day she disappeared, saying:
"Holly's apartment is full of plants waiting to be watered, seeds waiting to be planted, handmade lyric books and groceries she bought for an event on January 11, the night she disappeared. It's like packing up someone's dreams and aspirations."
Her obituary describes her as:
"6-7 time national heavy-weight title holder and Pan American champ in wrestling. Beginner in Jiu Jitsu, Coach in MMA. Comedienne. Gardener. Painter and inveterate drawer of pictures. Writer of an uncatalogued number of surprising and beautiful songs. 1.5x a person but champion of everything small. Proudly intolerant of bullies of any kind. Babysitter, Baker, Bike-Breaker, and a fierce competitor in hand soccer, pioneer of the knee-tilt in women's wrestling, and ready to talk back to her coach in the middle of a match. Fierce competitor, and fiercely encouraging of her competitors. And a proud Calgarian."
Day 2: Calgary to Banff
Signal here is a bit hit and miss, so I’ll post words and pics separately as the latter tends to bodge it!
I don’t think it was jet lag that woke me up at 05:30, but a combination of excitement and the need to pee! I decided to make a start on the first official journal entry of the trip, before we got ready to get some breakfast. Our options were the hotel buffet, or the infamous Tim Horton’s, which does a menu suspiciously similar to McDonald’s! We opted for the latter and it was pretty damn tasty at a very reasonable price, so I dare say it won’t be our last. We ambled down the rather sleepy Calgary street compared to 7 hours prior, to our hotel and met with the group in the lobby once more ready to set off at 08:30am, to our first destination, Canmore. With Will.I.Am’s I like to Move it Move it track cranked up, which I take full responsibility for.
Our purpose for the stop was to stock up on snacks and supplies, which we did in abundance, including a trail mix of our own creation, protein bars and a couple of Canadian specialities, including maple cookies. We also found a shop that sold SIM cards so G could reconnect with the outside world. It was a quaint place with a big supermarket and smattering of other businesses dotted around. The back drop to these shops was incredible and I fear through out most of this blog no words, or even pictures will do justice to the beauty and magnitude of Canada. Onward we went to our next stop, tunnel village campground.
As we arrived I think it’s fair to say we were all quite impressed at just how nice the site was. We were given a tent erection demo and thankfully it seemed quite a simple process, the only downside was the previous owners of our tent must have either packed up in the rain or camped in a river as it was soaking. However that didn’t deter us from putting it up and as I sit here cross legged typing away I can confirm that it’s dry and doesn’t smell. I’m not sure the same can be said for some of us! Megan and a couple of others prepared lunch, a selection of meats, cheese, crackers, dips and veg ready to fuel us for the afternoon’s hike up tunnel mountain. Once we’d had our fill, it was time to pack our bags for the rest of the day’s activities, a hike and a hot spring. Now, it’s of vital importance that when camping in these parts, any ‘smellies’ aka food, toiletries, etc are locked away, otherwise the rangers will come and put them in the trailer of shame.
We started off with the hike, a winding path with stretches of flat taking us up to 2000m elevation. The ground was a little slippy in places due to loose rocks or very smooth flat patches, but the views were stunning. The group was in good form and Megan ensured we had plenty of breaks for drinks, snacks and photos. Going up was sweaty work, but coming back down was quite pleasant by comparison, especially with the tingle of smugness that comes with knowing you’ve already done the hard part as others huff and puff past you going the opposite way! We got back to the minibus fairly unscatched and had a couple of hours until our dinner reservation so were given an option. Hot springs before or after dinner? If we opted for after we could go and check out Banff town for a bit, so the choice was a no brainer.
We parked up near a tiny liquor store where G and I picked up some wine and tequila mixers before heading down the main street, which was postcard picturesque. G was on the hunt for a jumper, which after sending a member of staff running to another shop to find the right size, she did purchase, along with a bracelet and a magnet! After popping in a few other souvenir shops, including a wonderfully garish Christmas shop, we walked the stretch of the street and had our photo taken by a lovely old American lady (having already taken a few group shots of her and her friends!) And it just so happened that this took place across from a bar with some outdoor seating and great views of the mountain and as we had 45 minutes to kill we quenched our thirst with a tangy beer and dry cider (6.5%!) turns out Iain and Hannah had the same idea but they’d opted for a break from the sun and were tucked around the corner inside, so we tottered off together to dinner at the Elk and Oarsman.
As our party of 13 perused the menu, with various sports flashing around the tvs on the walls, the option of trying some elk was too tempting to pass for some, including G! Knowing I could have a bit of hers and being a gut bucket, I went for a full rack of bbq ribs and I’ll tell ya, they aren’t stingy on the portions over here! They didn’t even fit on the plate and I left oinking. Our final destination of the evening was the Sulphur upper hot springs, which wasn’t as smelly as it sounds as they treat the water. The sign did look as Megan described it, like ‘people soup’ and it was a popular spot for a Sunday evening. Admittedly it did look like a normal pool, but as cooking in hot water goes it was most pleasant taking in the view whilst jumping out for the occasional cold shower.
It was a 10 minute trip back to our camp site where thankfully our tent was still standing, despite some bloke telling us that it was his pitch and the rangers were going to take it down (even though they told us to go there!) luckily he was a friendly Canadian who was happy to pitch up somewhere else! Megan told us the plan for the next day which includes a 5 hour hike and swim in Lake Louise! Roll on the tent sleep!
G’s highlight of the day: The view from the top of the hike whilst enjoying some snackies! The beer in the sun was a close second!
Get the Funds You Need, Fast: Online Loans in Alberta
Living in Alberta,online payday loan in calgary you know that sometimes unexpected expenses can pop up and leave you in need of quick access to funds. Whether it's a car repair, medical bills, or other financial emergencies, having options for fast cash can make all the difference. Luckily, online loans in Alberta provide a convenient and efficient solution.
The Benefits of Online Loans in Alberta
One of the biggest advantages of online loans is the speed and accessibility they offer. Traditional bank loans can involve lengthy application processes and lengthy wait times to receive the funds. Online lenders, on the other hand, typically have a much quicker turnaround.
Many online loan providers in Alberta can approve your application within minutes and deposit the funds directly into your bank account within 1-2 business days. This makes online loans an ideal option when you need money fast to cover an urgent expense.
Online loans also tend to have more flexible eligibility requirements compared to bank loans. If you have a less-than-perfect credit score, you may still qualify for an online loan, whereas a bank may be more hesitant to approve your application.
The application process for online loans is also much more streamlined. You can complete the entire process from the comfort of your own home or on-the-go using your smartphone or tablet. No more having to take time off work to visit a bank branch.
Types of Online Loans Available in Alberta
Alberta residents have access to a variety of online loan options to fit different financial needs:
Personal Loans: These flexible loans can be used for all sorts of expenses, from home repairs to debt consolidation. Loan amounts typically range from $500 to $50,000.
Installment Loans: Repay your loan in fixed monthly payments over a set period of time, usually 6 months to 5 years.
Line of Credit: Similar to a credit card, a line of credit gives you access to funds as needed up to a certain limit. You only pay interest on the amount you borrow.
Bad Credit Loans: Designed for borrowers with poor or no credit history, these loans provide access to funds even if you've been turned down by traditional lenders.
No matter which type of online loan best fits your needs, the application and approval process is fast, easy, and convenient.
Finding the Right Online Loan in Alberta
When searching for online loans in Alberta, it's important to do your research and compare offers from multiple lenders. Look at factors like interest rates, repayment terms, fees, and customer reviews to find the best fit.
