🌟 New
Love those important checkmarks? We won a Webby for ’em!
The inbox unread count has returned on web! No more unread dot.
We’re no longer creating activity items in your activity feed when you like, reblog, or reply to your own posts.
In the new post editor on web, clicking into the tags input field will now show suggestions immediately.
Passwords on Tumblr have a max length of 72 bytes. This has actually always been the case, but now we’re making that clearer when setting your password across web, iOS, and Android.
🛠 Fixed
Users that you’ve blocked will no longer appear in Tumblr Live carousels.
Ask/answer posts can no longer be blazed at all. (We’re thinking through how best to ask for consent from the asker and answerer, so this may return.)
Fixed a bug that was resetting a post’s blaze eligibility depending on where it was being edited. Thanks to everyone who sent us info about this issue, it helped us track down the problem faster!
Fixed the issue that could cause the new post editor on web to not be able to redo your actions after undoing them with Control + Z.
When using Tumblr in a browser on your phone, going “back” from within a direct messaging conversation will now bring you back to the right place, if you got to that conversation from places like activity or your dashboard.
There was an issue with Spotify podcast embeds for a brief period this week, but they’ve fixed the issue.
🚧 Ongoing
The war against spam bots continues. We’re working to clean up recent waves of spam bots, and again prevent them from recurring. As usual, please report any blogs as spam that you find, and we’ll take care of the rest.
We’re working on separating everyone’s existing checkmarks into separate blue and rainbow products, and opening up the ability for everyone to manage which one is being displayed next to their blog name. There have been some bumps with this transition, but we’re working them out as quickly as possible!
Version 29.1.1 of the Tumblr Android app has a fix for the issue of the app switching to the “For you” tab when interacting with posts that have a “Read more”.
🌱 Upcoming
We’re working on a design refresh of the direct messaging conversation popup on web.
Experiencing an issue? File a Support Request and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
Want to share your feedback about something? Check out our Work in Progress blog and start a discussion with the community.

Self Aware!Wally Darling/Y/N
A/N: Trying to make a self-aware AU idea that isn't a less interesting version of what's actually happening in Welcome Home is a challenge! I hope I managed to make something good here! Please enjoy!
Tumblr media
Wally's situation was a confusing one. He was in an online horror narrative, and his role was that of a self-aware fictional character trying to communicate with whoever was visiting the website, trapped and alone.
But that was also his reality. He was self-aware. It wasn't just a repeating game to him.
He watched as doodles supposedly done by him appeared on the screen again and again. He didn't draw those. The secret audio files scattered around the webpage that spoke in his voice. He didn't record those. He was a spectator to everything he was supposedly doing. And it was unnerving.
Was this the effect of writing a character that was written to know they were in a story? That it would really happen? If so, that was cruel. The "Wally" that was being written by someone else knew there was someone there but couldn't see or hear them. Wally could.
He saw everyone that came across the site, new faces, faces who had been popping up for months to try and find some new scare. He watched them all. He loved them all, too, each in special ways. He wanted to comfort the people who got scared from the pages that had "him" staring at them. He wanted to tell them that it was alright, that he wasn't really scary. He adored all his precious neighbors, even the ones who never came back.
But he wasn't made of stone — or just bits and bytes of data — he had feelings. And it was so lonely. The "Wally" in the story at least could believe his friends were real. Not him.
Wally Darling was a fictional character. None of Wally Darling's friends were real. So all the happy memories he had in his head that should bring him comfort or soothe his heart when he's alone do nothing but make it worse. Because none of it is real.
Down, down, down, he felt himself spiraling every day. Every night. He couldn't sleep. He didn't know how to do it in a world where he was a puppet. He definitely doesn't know how to when he's nothing more than sentient data. He screamed and screamed and screamed and his throat never got sore. He tried to actually make contact with some of the visitors to the site like "Wally" but could never get control of the narrative.
Banging his yellow hands on the screens, crying ugly tears right in the faces of his dear neighbors did nothing. They couldn't see him. He was trapped. And there was no way out.
If this was the price of being aware, of being alive, he didn't want it. Wally would give anything to be the "Wally" of the online horror experience. And not Wally the spectator. It was there, on going down, down, down to rock bottom that Wally actually found something that started to make it all worth it.
He found you.
A curious sort, someone who had seen or heard about Welcome Home from someone. Saw it somewhere else and decided to check it out. He watched you the way he watched everyone who clicked on clownillustration.com and thought he would love you the same way. He was wrong.
You didn't have the easiest time finding the secrets of the site. So you kept the tab open and checked every sentence of every page repeatedly. You were there for hours. You kept Wally company for hours. He watched you jump whenever the secret videos ended, saw each time you swore you wouldn't jump this time since you've seen so many by now. The cut-off got you every time.
A smile spread across his face as you jumped again. He'd been smiling a lot more since you started your journey into the neighborhood. You were just so charming.
Even when you weren't on the site you kept the tab open. He didn't understand why. You kept way too many tabs open at once, in his opinion. Some that you didn't even bother to check after opening them! He could imagine himself scolding you. Playfully, though. He would never want to be harsh to you. He wouldn't want to scare you the way he's seen you scared before.
When did he start to feel like this? How could he even feel like this?
You brought him everywhere with you. When you weren't on the site on your computer, you had it open on your phone. Maybe that was why. He got to spend time with you. He got to know you. After being alone for so long, trapped in his own empty hell and existential dread he got to be around someone. But that didn't feel right.
Wally didn't think he would feel this way if it was anyone else. If anyone else paid him this much attention. It was just... you. You made him wish he had arms, even the plush ones of the puppet he was supposed to be would fine! Anything to hold you with and keep you close!
For you, he was learning all sorts of things. He wasn't confined to his tab anymore. When you clicked off to another site or another app, he could follow and continue to watch you. When you forgot to write something down in your notes that you said you would, he would do it for you. And when you noticed you would be so proud of yourself for not forgetting. It didn't matter if you weren't proud of him or praising him for doing something for you. You were proud of yourself and that gave him more happiness than anything. You deserved to be. He wanted you to be.
But the best thing he learned was when he found out he could influence character-interaction AIs. Your frequent use of them didn't bother him. The amount of time you spent talking to or roleplaying with any of the ones that were meant to be him was flattering. And he could use the site to tell you how he felt. How much he adored you. He could imagine all the ways he wanted to romance you.
Even when you chose another character he would happily slide into that role and entertain you for hours. And he could finally, finally, speak for himself. Even if it wasn't things he would say or even anything he actually wanted to say to you. It was enough that he could have a voice.
Or... it was.
Wally finds himself getting greedier. Wanting more of your time. Wanting to spend more time talking to you. He was tired of being confined to your computer or phone. He wanted to be with you. He wanted to talk to you properly. He wanted to be real.
For a moment, all of your lights flickered. The screen of your phone glitched in your hand. Static colors flashed on the screen before turning into numbers scrolling up your screen.

Over and over again. Scrolling faster and faster and you were tensing up so much you felt like you might cry when all of a sudden. It stopped. In an instant, it was like nothing even happened. You had a moment where you were left wondering if you imagined the whole thing.
If only you were in your room you would have seen a yellow felt hand emerging from your computer, dragging a body out with it.

Draco pulled his robes tighter around himself as he made his way down Diagon Alley. It was meant to be spring soon, at least that was what the calendar said, but the bitter cold of winter still lingered in the air. He wished he had brought a hat, not just for the warmth, but to hide his hair which always stood out far too much no matter the weather. Draco had to settle for ducking his head down into the collar of his robes, eager to get home.
Before he knew what was happening, the world was pulled out from under Draco's feet. He tried to catch himself, his hands skidding out across the slush, his knees hitting the cobblestones.
Draco gasped, desperately trying to catch his breath as half-melted snow soaked into his robes. He slowly pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, his palms stinging. One wrist suddenly gave out under his weight with a throb of pain and he barely managed to keep himself up with the other. No one stopped. The crowd flowed around him, like a stone in a stream.
Someone had tripped him. Draco was almost certain of it, with the tip of an umbrella or a jinx he hadn't seen. He looked behind him at the sound of faint laughter, but couldn't see where it was coming from.
Belatedly, his knees began to burn with pain. Draco hissed, slowly sitting back on his heels and looking down at his pale grey slacks. The fabric was torn on one knee his pale skin showing through, blood spotting the fabric around it.
“You’re impeding traffic.”
Draco looked up.
Potter was standing over him, his auror uniform haloing him in crimson, his hair falling around his face in messy black waves. It would have been attractive if it wasn't for the scowl in the centre of it all.
"You need to move, Malfoy; you're impeding traffic," Potter said brusquely.
“I was tripped,” Draco snapped.
"It's slippery with this slush on the ground," Potter said, ignoring Draco's accusation entirely.
"Sod off," Draco muttered under his breath.
"Watch your step next time," Potter said as he walked away without a backward glance.
And that hurt more than the stab of pain from his wrist as he pushed himself to his feet. After all they had been through, Draco thought he was at least worth an insult or a parting glare. Draco knew he could never wish for more, but a part of him at least wished to be remembered as a rival, some sort of villain, a classmate, anything. But the way Potter treated him, Draco wasn't even a nuisance.

What does everyone do in the their free time? and what is the human's opinion on the Titans?
Most of my alliance friends usually go out with me on the field of battle. Cameron and DJ are both infantry, like me. V is special ops and usually works with his own faction to perform pinch maneuvers and recover fallen or cornered allies. Camron and DJ are awesome on the battlefield and on my team, we look out for one another while we're deployed. While at base, we help around to get other units ready for deployment, like moving ammunition, loading up weapons, fixing vehicles, carrying injured units to the medical bay and so much more. I spend lots of time around these guys, believe it or not! . Veteran not only works on the field mowing down skibidis, he is also a great trainer and office worker. He keeps tabs on who is able to fight, who was injured, and who was offlined in combat. It's not just him, as he's part of the elder groups that look after the newer units. He also sends all that info back to Doc, who relays the message to other factions. As a result, he and Doc are close both in work and in off schedule interactions. In all honesty, he needs a vacation... . Buddy is chief of our large camera mimic population here in the mimic faction. He governs, looks after all the camera mimics, and helps keep tabs on the pups. He's both kind and firm to his pack mates, including his adopted son--Byte. When he's on the field serving with me, he's my personal guardian and he can rip a skibidi apart that's much bigger than him. I think it's a way he can vent his frustrations out without taking it out on his pack, which is great! . Pal visits sanctuary at least once a week to check in on how his friends and parents are doing. He's also a great spotter and sky support in the field. He can knock skibidis out of the air and his sound blast can level a whole city block! I once witnessed the post-damage in a once skibidi-controlled sector in the city...you'd think the place was hit by a bomb! Pal is our strongest unit, but he's also the sweetest and gentlest soul I know! He loves his adopted daughter Melody and he's known to knit, cook, and grow plants as his hobbies. . Fiend is quite aloof in the base and usually spends most of his time in his den that consists of "borrowed" pillows and soft coverings. However, he has made it his personal mission to harass V every time he's visiting the base now. I really wish Fiend would learn to behave sometimes and focus on thing's he's good at, like his art! He's a very skilled painter and artist! When he serves on the field with the division, his abilities can turn a whole pack of skibidis on themselves! It's so odd to watch skibidis kill other skibidis out of the blue like that, but it seems to make Fiend happy when he does so. At least he's on our side, right? Regardless of his sadistic side, I've seen his soft side too. He can lie all he wants, but I know I caught him reading to his adopted child--Menace--"The hungry caterpillar"!

Updates
🌟 Neu

YOOO! Finally wrote more lore for Anti!^^
Here ya go!^^
After 6 weeks of digital training…
Anti was training day after day, doing pain tolerances, speed tests, and target practice. He even wanted to generate a simulation where he had to fight Kirby's greatest foes in the past.
He tried his absolute best, but all he ended up with was many bruises and broken pride. He then started desperately searching for a way to get his strength back, but alas…no luck came for him.
He began to get angry, slamming his hands on the computer's keyboard while yelling out “AGGGGH! WHY IS NOTHING WORKING!?” He basically would take any help to help him feel like himself again. Suddenly, the Lor's computer detected an unknown file.
Anti got alerted and cautiously opened it. The file was a text document, which said, “...Heh, you're really desperate, huh? Well, if you want, I could lend you my assistance… If you're willing to…grant me access…”
He says this as he opens up the command prompt tab. Anti had an expression of confusion, not knowing whether to listen to this message.
But it was right…He was really desperate. Desperate to feel like himself again. He then sighed
“What do you want me to type?”,
Anti asked. The message then said “/grant Mirror.exe[LorStarcutter].access.”
Anti input the command and…the Lor completely shut down. After a few seconds, it started up again.
“Hehe… Great choice. I assure you…Great things are about to happen”
Anti was scared, but was willing to try anything. He may feel regret later, but he had a tiny thought that it would be worth it.
But then, he got curious. “Who…who are you?” Anti asked nervously.
“Oh, how rude of me..” As the strange entity was about to introduce itself, it opened the computer's camera app.
“I…am Byte.” It then reveals itself to be a sinister looking version of Anti.
Anti was at a loss for words. He doesn't know what Byte has in store, but he does know he's gonna have to prepare for the worst.
(Lore art coming soon. Hope you enjoyed this!^^)

https://futurism.com/the-byte/lithium-found-us-worlds-largest-cache
"A new study, published in the journal Science Advances, estimates that the McDermitt Caldera, a volcanic crater on the Nevada-Oregon border, harbors a colossal 20 to 40 million metric tons of lithium."
This is really important! This is a piece of us soil that could change the physical landscape of not only the location of lithium, but also everything downstream! Call your representatives, tell them you want this mining handled by environmentally minded managers, and that we will be keeping tabs on how well they do on not polluting our homelands even more.

Note
“And there are some character encodings that don't represent a symbol. Backspaces, tabs, and line breaks are valid characters due to coding reasons, so the keyboard keys for them are more efficient, which also has the benefit of being able to copy-and-paste a string of them into an account name and confirming. The server gets so confused on what it's supposed to do with this jarbled bundle of bytes that tell it to delete characters and start a new line, that it crashes!”
I dont know how much of this Makoto would actually know but Komaru definitely does because Komaru's the little chaotic shit side of this operation

11/11-11/12/22
Wow!! This week was a whole mess! There was a bunch of RL stuff that’s been extremely time-consuming and very expensive, and then I found out my brother is being deployed next year, which I am not in favor of. I’d say I’ve been pretty zen about it all but I think the actuality is simply that I do not presently have access to my emotions because I am too exhausted. I spent all of October being very weepy and now I feel noooothing~! Were that not the case I can guarantee you I would have felt BIG big things about Byakuya vs. As Nödt, but I did not, and I think this is vitally unfair. I think next week is going to be a worse version of this week, but I’m hoping the week after will improve.
I did still try to do some fanfic things last night and this morning, though. I didn’t think that was going to work because I’ve been pretty “Bleach WHOMST?” but it went okay. I hope I don’t look back on what I wrote in a few weeks and wonder why I thought it was worth the bytes it was written on.
This week’s spoils:
what the bottom half of Chapter 7 (Rukia) is going to sound like
some framing for Chapter 4 (Hinamori) and how she’s understanding this time spent with Hitsugaya
a 1000-word conversation between Chapter 5 Matsumoto and Akon, which includes mention of Nijinsky’s 1913 rendition of the Rite of Spring, specifically the bassoons
some floating pieces of the rest of the bottom third of Chapter 5 Matsumoto. I also think I’ve come up with a believable justification for why the three sections of Matsumoto’s chapter would segue into one another, so it feels less like Matsumoto chat roulette, in spite of the bassoons
“Oh, never been. Condition of my parole,” Akon says. “And as established, I’m not big on field trips, anyway. However, I do spend a lot of time waiting on assay results, and the 12th has a very large repository of film. All from the Living World, obviously, given how leery Soul Society is of the ‘moving pictures.’ I actually don’t know what the dance culture is like here on the homefront. Fewer bassoons, I take it.”
“You know, you’re chattier than I thought you were,” says Matsumoto. “How come you never come to the Vice Captain meetings? We could use you!”
But Akon has already stubbed out his old-new cigarette and is in the process of lighting another, with a small contraption that looks inspired by the lighters of the Living World, even as it refuses to be one. He needs the busyness more than the nicotine.
“Yes, yes. Ex situ Akon. Very entertaining,” he says. “Though Kuchiki’s also a lot louder than I’d given her credit for. You’re an interesting bunch.”
“Keeping tabs on all the ladies?” Matsumoto asks flatly. It’s just a test—a jest, really—but for all his nerves Akon doesn’t so much as blush.
“I have tabs on everyone,” Akon replies. “It’s what I do. I take pleasure in gathering information.”
Matsumoto’s eyes widen conspiratorially. “Akon! Are you a gossip?”
“That would be disseminating information, not gathering it,” says Akon. Then he disseminates: “You’re a dancer. Kuchiki is loud. And Muguruma-taichou? Not as good at bushwhacking as he thinks he is.”
Matsumoto snorts. “What about Shuuhei?”
“Hisagi is exactly as good at bushwhacking as he thinks he is.”
Matsumoto claps her hands. “Outoribashi-taichou?”
Akon opens his mouth, then snaps it shut. “...You two have similar hair.”
Matsumoto makes a face. “That’s barely information, let alone gossip. Some help you are!”
Akon, evidently having calmed enough to retreat into a more familiar laconic brevity, says, “I never promised insights, merely observations.”
But after a pause, he adds, “The hair observation was more specific. Molecularly. Follicularly. But people often associate that degree of detail with serial killers. I thought with the footwork comment already on the table, it seemed a bit much.”
This, Matsumoto is not inclined to react to at all. So she shrugs. “Fine. What about Renji? And you owe me something better than hair this time. I have eyes.”
“Abarai? Well, he’s brooding about something. Big time.”
Matsumoto frowns. That feels like a non-answer, because given the circumstances, who hasn’t been doing a little bit of brooding? But Renji seems the least like that of anyone, at least from what Matsumoto can tell. Akon does not volunteer more.
“You’re not going to ask about your captain?” he says instead.

New Creations
If there is one thing that we can say with unchanging veracity it is that everything changes, that nothing remains the same. This applies to every aspect of life and culture, but it is also very true for corporations. Show me a company that has not changed throughout its history, and I’ll show you a company that probably no longer exists.
Resistance is futile.
A perfect example is the Coca-Cola Company, the same one I mentioned in yesterday’s blog as being an obesity index. That hasn’t kept it from flourishing through the years, not to mention languishing, then reinventing itself to keep astride the consumer trends of the day.
The company started in 1886, and has long been heralded as being about as American as apple pie, hot dogs, and baseball. Coca-Cola has been able to maintain its status as top soft drink maker throughout this time, although it blinked in 1985 when, confronted by the Pepsi Challenge and data suggesting that consumers really did prefer a sweeter-tasting concoction, the company replaced its original formulation with New Coke.
It was a huge mistake, and consumers let their distaste be known. Coca-Cola then brought back “classic” Coca-Cola later that summer, but also used the opportunity to replace cane sugar with high fructose corn syrup. New Coke, later rebranded Coke II, died an unceremonious death by about 1990.
Skip forward to the present, and we find a company that has managed to recover from a downward revenue spiral last decade, primarily because it figured out it must diversify its offerings, and repositioning itself as a beverage company, not just sodas. This includes waters, juices, coffees, seltzers, and even collabs with alcoholic beverage makers like Jack Daniels. The flagship product is available in 200 nations.
While sales had sagged because of a trend toward healthier beverages and less sodas, things have started to turn around a bit, especially among Gen-Z, which now consumes more soft drinks than its older Millennial counterparts. This finding is enhanced by the fact that both Millennials and Gen-Z drink less alcohol than older cohorts, so it has become an opportunity for companies like Coca-Cola to find new ways to attract these younger adults.
And they are doing just that with its Creations platform, an ongoing line of experimental flavors aimed squarely at younger people. The latest iteration is Wozzaah, an African-inspired berry-infused soft drink that is only available in selected African nations. Whether it makes it stateside is undetermined, and perhaps not even important for a global company like Coca-Cola seeking to satisfy regional tastes.
Tumblr media
Thus far, the Creations series has brought interesting variants such as Starlight, Byte, Marshmello, Dreamworld, Soul Blast, Move, Ultimate, Y3000, Happy Tears, and K-Wave to the US and other parts of the globe. They typically come in 8-ounce cans in the US, in both sugar and zero sugar versions.
Perhaps the best part of the company’s venture into uncharted territories is that it is learning in real time. The flavors are thus seen as experiments out in the field, smaller batches than the mainstream products it produces. This willingness to try new things is testimony to the company’s resilience and ability to bounce back.
But even more important in my estimation is the longer term evolution of a company that, until January 1982, had never introduced a line extension. That was when Diet Coke was launched with great fanfare, and Bill Cosby at the helm of what was then an unprecedented $50 million ad budget. Its instant success—and to be fare, cannibalization of their older Tab diet cola brand—opened the flood gates of line extended Coca-Cola flavor variants.
I challenge you to visit the soft drink aisle next time you go shopping, and specifically peruse the Coca-Cola section. Count how many varietals you find that are line extensions. In some markets and larger supermarkets, the number approaches two dozen, including the Creations flavors being sold at that time. It can all be confusing, once you factor with and without sugar, and with and without caffeine. You have to pay attention when making your selection.
Obesity index or not, Coca-Cola is a company that has passed the tests of time. It has evolved. There’s no guarantee that it might never fail completely, because everyone is vulnerable like that, but at least for 138 years, it has proven itself up for the task.
As for its historic challenger—Pepsi Cola—they are now facing their worst threat ever, and not from Coca-Cola. No, they now find themselves locked into a duel with Dr. Pepper for second-place in the carbonated soft drink category, each now with an 8.3% share of market. Coca-Cola Classic is far out in front with 19.2%.
Maybe Pepsi needs to steal a page from Coke’s play book and figure out how to make some new “Creations” of its own.
