more people need to know about irish mythology. it's just balls to the walls insane. if you thought greek mythology was wild let me introduce you to:
nessa and her 12 gay dads
queen medb cheating on everything and everyone, starting a war over a cow, ruining innumerable lives and then getting killed by cheese
fionn gets raised by 2 random lesbians
fionn kills a guy for stealing his girlfriend, drops the magic healing water several times on purpose
oisín goes to live in the immortal fairy land with his immortal fairy wife, misses ireland, comes back to visit, falls off his horse and fucking dies (may or may not have gotten in a fight with saint patrick before dying)
fuck them kids, they're swans now
guy accidentally gets job of "being the king's dog" at age 5, changes name to dog
CÉN ÁIT a bhfuil an scannán sean-gotach Cú Chulainn le teannas homo-éarótach idir setanta agus culainn nach bfhuil cainte faoi? Cé a beidh mo slánatheoir agus cuir isteach seat de setanta ar a ghlúinne os cóir a chaptaen? An bhfuil na achilles-patroclus bitches ábalta teacht anseo agar seicind amháin tá mo chuilse thar 300
Pretty cool that I got commissioned to draw Cú Chulainn (by @ whitest_devil on twitter) (you can get yours here)
Might have gone a little bit overboard with it but I had fun so. Also probably will finish it into a full illustration bc I really like how it turned out.
studying cú chullain and thinking about how one crime committed as a youth can steer the direction of your life forever. the dehumanization of being called a dog to replace the one you slaughtered yet wearing it like a badge of honor. the achillean knowledge of your fate and the bold race to meet it. the final taboo to commit, the blood of the hound, not being so far off from what began it all in the first place. also my personal opinion that he’s a werewolf given his thematic ties to dogs and the gaelic emphasis on shapeshifting and the fact that sometimes in battle he turns into a horrible ghoul but mostly the other stuff i said before
One of the things I love about Fate/Samurai Remnant is that I get to laugh at all these inner/historical jokes just because I'm a Koei fan and someone who throws myself at any mythology related content.
Archer going full verbal aggro on Ruler to the horror of Iori, Saber and his own Master had me in stitches because if you know who Archer is (and they tell you who he is about two minutes after you see him for the first time) going completely aggro on a man who he thinks wanted to bed HIS BELOVED WIFE is the bare minimum you can expect from him.
Also, Cú Chulainn and Gilgamesh insulting each other is par for the course.
thinking about how cú chulainn was originally called sétanta but he killed culann’s hound in self defence then offered to take its place and became known as the hound of culann instead…
I probably mentioned it in the past, but now the official translations are out so I can bring it up again anyways. Medb’s dress Hero My Love: My Dear Antagonist and her song My Beloved Adversary are both obv about Cú Chulainn
The event has her, Cat, and Ecchan singing a small portion of her song, which you can clearly tell is about him.
The full lyrics are contradictory, as canonically Medb is supposed to be an ambivalent person according to her main profile. She’s confused about the feelings she’s been developing and wants to say that she couldn’t be in love, but she wavers a little because she does actually want to be by his side.
The other part is regarding her pride wanting him to fall for her and bend to her will despite how she’s actually a little embarrassed and doesn’t want to be vulnerable in front of him. She doesn’t want him to make her say how she really feels. She’s mad at herself that she can’t act on her feelings genuinely and only self-sabotages herself. Half the time she’s unaware or is unable to see that he responds to her whenever she’s honest and more grounded.
I love her and her dumdum overthought love-hate towards him
