Irish mythology was originally a spoken tradition, but much of it was eventually written down in the Middle Ages by Christian monks, who Christianised it to some extent. Nevertheless, these tales may shed some light on what Samhain meant and how it was marked in ancient Ireland.
Irish mythology tells us that Samhain was one of the four seasonal festivals of the year. The 10th-century tale…
Adding to my stack of writing WIP's: a retelling of the Táin but focused on Cú Chulainn's relationship with his body as a demigod warrior who involuntarily transforms into a grotesque parody of the human form when battle frenzy hits him and also someone sexualized from a young age dealing with the aftermath even though he's still too young to grow a beard. His relationship with Ferdiad is explicitly romantic and Finnabair is a major pov because i love her and think she has a lot to do with the themes i want to explore. Working title is Mine Own Sétanta
I wish the Táin Bó Cúailnge had more of a fandom because Medb has to deal with a faery twink in the woods who not only kills her men by the hundreds but also throws rocks at her every time he sees her and I think we could get a lot of good memes out of it
Ok but Hozier stripping Cú Chulainn back to his real name (Setanta) and emphasising the tragedy and burden of his youth and the expectations of being a son of Lugh, and the pity in his portrayal of the hero's death, and how it stands side by side with the grief felt for the lost innocence of "one more sweet boy to be butchered by men" in the song's overt anti-imperialist context

i was listening to shostakovich at work today and the piece i used for in loco parentis came on – not the one for the pas de deux but the slow one that cú chulainn uses as his solo at the end. anyway i was thinking about how completely unfair that competition would be because that piece is SO LONG and trying to compare that to a, like, standard 90-second variation or whatever it is that ferdia's doing is apples and oranges, i mean, you can't, they wouldn't have let him enter with that if it was his primary competition piece and it's only because it's the weird tie break recall that he gets away with it. and i was like. why did i do this, as a writer. why didn't i make it fair.
but then of course it couldn't be fair, could it? it's comrac fir diad it was always meant to be an unfair fight. the scales were never even.

𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐔𝐑𝐋: caemthe means lovers in old irish and belongs to an excerpt (two hearts that beat as one, we were lovers in the woods, men who shared a bed and the same deep sleep...) from the famous lament in the táin in which cú chulainn talks about his relationship with ferdiad and always manages to make me tear up. i think i initially chose it for a sideblog where i wrote ferdiad and emer (heart companion & wife of cú chulainn) but then decided to keep all my muses in a multi, it stuck and it's my brand™ now lol. cú, dee and pat are my main muses now but the name still applies due to their tales
𝐅𝐔𝐍 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓: i've a small peruvian dog (rita!), which is a hairless breed, which means she gets cold easily so she has plenty of warm clothes (for the night & winter) and cute dresses (during the day). she actually has her own little wardrobe with her own little hangers 🥺💗
cú chulainn puppy play fantasy. yeah sorry i had to slay your guard dog, i feel really bad about it, guess i'll take his place if you want. yeah i'll sleep at the foot of your bed and follow behind you all day and get headscritches when i'm a good boy. because it's the right thing to do, you see. no other reason. *chews on squeaky toy*
