Following a highly successful collaboration on Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, Sebastian Stan and Lily James are set to reteam on Let the Evil Go West, a psychological horror thriller from director Christian Tafdrup (Speak No Evil).

north.five.six. reps the film’s international rights and will introduce it to buyers at Cannes, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group arranged the financing and will handle the domestic sale.

Let the Evil Go West follows a railroad worker who stumbles upon a fortune under deeply disturbing circumstances. As horrifying visions and manifestations drive him toward madness, his wife becomes convinced that an evil presence has attached itself to their family.

Xc Vs penned the script. Tim and Trevor White (King Richard, Fair Play) are producing under their Star Thrower Entertainment banner, alongside Mark Fasano and Nathan Klingher for Gramercy Park Media, which is also financing the film, and Allan Mandelbaum. Stan and James will also executive produce along with Gramercy Park’s Joshua Harris and Ford Corbett and north.five.six.’s Michael Rothstein and Samuel Hall.

Playing Tommy Lee to James’s Pamela Anderson in Hulu’s award winner Pam & Tommy, Stan will next be seen starring in A Different Man, which won him Berlin’s Silver Bear after world premiering to much buzz at Sundance 2024. A24 will release the pic in September. Also coming up for the actor is Ali Abbassi’s The Apprentice, an anticipated title that has him playing a young Donald Trump, which will premiere in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Donald Sutherland, whose ability to both charm and unsettle, both reassure and repulse, was amply displayed in scores of film roles as diverse as a laid-back battlefield surgeon in “M*A*S*H,” a ruthless Nazi spy in “Eye of the Needle,” a soulful father in “Ordinary People” and a strutting fascist in “1900,” died on Thursday in Miami. He was 88.

Donald McNichol Sutherland was born on July 17, 1935, in Saint John, a coastal town in New Brunswick. One of three children of Frederick McLae Sutherland, a salesman, and Dorothy (McNichol) Sutherland, a math teacher, Donald lived his formative years in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

With his long face, droopy eyes, protruding ears and wolfish smile, the 6-foot-4 Mr. Sutherland was never anyone’s idea of a movie heartthrob. He often recalled that while growing up in eastern Canada, he once asked his mother if he was good-looking, only to be told, “No, but your face has a lot of character.” He recounted how he was once rejected for a film role by a producer who said: “This part calls for a guy-next-door type. You don’t look like you’ve lived next door to anyone.”

Yet across six decades, starting in the early 1960s, he appeared in nearly 200 films and television shows — some years he was in as many as half a dozen movies. “Klute,” “Six Degrees of Separation” and a 1978 remake of “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers” were just a few of his other showcases.

A stalwart actor, Sutherland won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance in the television movie Citizen X, and another Globe for Path to War. His extensive television and film credits include M*A*S*H, Six Degrees of Separation, The Undoing, Trust, Dirty Sexy Money, and The Pillars of the Earth, among many others. In 2017, he received an Academy Honorary Award.

The patriarch of the Sutherland family, Donald is survived by his Emmy-winning son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, as well as veteran CAA Media Finance exec Roeg Sutherland. Sutherland is also survived by his wife Francine Racette; sons Rossif and Angus; daughter Rachel; and four grandchildren. Per Deadline, a private celebration of life will be held by the family.

(A quick reminder that at this point this could be career suicide because Mr. Kelly was a known misogynist who liked his women young, something, ironically, you could have gotten away with prior to "marrying" a Lotita obsessed teenage-looking woman, who to the outside, looked like you treated like shit- ignoring her, barely holding her hand or kissing her, dragging her through Central Park like a big brute. Yay, a new project of Sam's!

Set in December 1944 against the war-torn Belgian landscape as World War II pushes toward a brutal climax, “Perdition” follows the journey of a lone American soldier (Claflin), who miraculously survives a POW camp execution. As he ventures into the bone-chilling landscape to save himself and a precious cargo salvaged from the camp, a ruthless Nazi SS officer on horseback (Friend) discovers his tracks and becomes obsessed with hunting him down.

Brings to mind Journey's End, where he also played a soldier, but in WW1. One of his best performances.

Sam is also executive producing. Seems that he is liking the job!

CAA Media Finance handled the deal for the film’s domestic rights. John Biondo oversaw on behalf of Lionsgate, with the pact finalized late Wednesday night as the TIFF festival and market gets underway. The movie is expected to release next year.

The $50M-budgeted film was shot on location in Prague and Munich.

EXCLUSIVE: Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), Timothy V. Murphy (Appaloosa) and Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher) have boarded The Fabulous Four, a new comedy from Bleecker Street, which has entered production in Georgia under an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA.

The actors join an ensemble that also includes Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, and Megan Mullally, as previously announced. Ralph takes over the role of Sissy Spacek, who was attached as of last fall but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Bleecker Street nabbed North American rights to the pic last October and will release the film in U.S. theaters in 2024. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance arranged the financing and brokered the deal for U.S. rights, with Sierra/Affinity repping international sales.

Written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the Cannes prize-winner best known for her Kate Winslet pic The Dressmaker, the film follows three life-long friends (Sarandon, Mullally, and Ralph) who travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend Marilyn (Midler). Once there, sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected.

Richard Barton Lewis’ Southpaw Entertainment is producing alongside Lauren Hantz of Hantz Motion Pictures.

An icon of stage and screen, Ralph has won an Emmy and numerous other accolades for her portrayal of kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, the ABC mockumentary that has emerged as one the most popular scripted series on linear. The show, created by and starring Quinta Brunson, was renewed for a third season in January but only recently returned to the writers’ room, following the conclusion of the WGA strike. Otherwise perhaps best known for her Tony-nominated turn as Deena Jones in Broadway’s Dreamgirls, Ralph has also been seen in Mistress with Robert de Niro, To Sleep with Anger with Danny Glover, The Distinguished Gentlemen with Eddie Murphy, and Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg, along with such series as Moesha and Ray Donovan.

Most recently recurring on Law & Order: Organized Crime and ABC’s The Company You Keep, Murphy previously reprised his role in Uni’s comedy MacGruber on the same-name Peacock series. Other recent credits for the actor on the TV side include S.W.A.T., Snowpiercer, Westworld, and True Detective, to name just a few. Additional feature credits include In Full Bloom, The Lone Ranger, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Greenwood puts in a stellar turn as Fortunato Pharmaceuticals CEO Roderick Usher in Netflix’s Edgar Allen Poe-inspired miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher from Mike Flanagan, which bowed on the platform earlier this month. He also recently starred in the Fox medical drama The Resident, which ran for six seasons, and will soon appear in fantasy pic The Invisibles with Tim Blake Nelson and Gretchen Mol, among other projects.

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Bleecker Street nabbed U.S. rights to James Hawes’ One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins, and the starry British comedy Fackham Hall, which goes into production next year. The company also locked down UK rights, alongside Elysian Film Group and Anonymous Content, to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Upcoming releases include the Meg Ryan-helmed rom-com What Happens Later, coming to theaters November 3, which she leads with David Duchovny, and Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s Waitress: The Musical, out December 7 with Fathom Events.

Since Maraval is known for festival movies, PH might be presented at film festivals. There are rumors already it might go to TIFF.

CAA, WBI and Netflix seem to be common denominators in Pain Hustlers and Amelia's Children.

Two-time Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List) has written and will direct The Beacon, in which he will also have a leading role alongside Olivier Award-winner Indira Varma (Obi Wan Kenobi), Charles Babalola (The Outlaws) and Alison Oliver (Saltburn).

Described as a meditation on family, class, race and identity, the contemporary UK-set drama marks Fiennes’ first feature film screenplay after previously directing The White Crow, The Invisible Woman and Coriolanus.

The official synopsis reads: “Joshua Nyaga travels to the countryside from London to spend a summer’s weekend with his girlfriend Cass’ family for the first time. Transplanted as a young boy from the violence of the Ugandan civil war to the concrete jungle of London, Joshua has never experienced the privilege that Cass’ family enjoys.

Morehouse College has canceled a Nov. 6 basketball tournament it planned to host between Kanye West’s Donda Academy and The Skills Factory.

The HBCU said in a statement: “Throughout its history, Morehouse College, perhaps more than any other institution, has stood for social discourse which advances equity and healing, particularly in areas involving race, culture, and socio-economic disparities. Over the past several weeks, West, who now goes by Ye, has made several media appearances after being suspended from social media. He first sat down for an interview on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, then on Drink Champs, and on Piers Morgan’s program. He spouted unsubstantiated conspiracy theories regarding business dealings, claims about his ex-wife, and anti-Semitic tropes about global finance. Additionally, he spread misinformation about George Floyd’s death, which caused Floyd’s family to consider suing the rapper for $250 million. He also wore a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt during Paris Fashion Week.

Thus far, Ye has been dropped by sportswear brand Adidas, talent agency CAA, and fashion houses Balenciaga and Vogue. All of his items were removed from Gap stores and the site YeezyGap.com was shut down. The status of Donda Academy, Ye’s unaccredited private K-12 school, is unclear. The school, located in Simi Valley, California, initially was shut down but was quickly reopened. The future of the student basketball players is unknown, but there are reports major prep tournament invitations have been rescinded.

As for Ye, he has issued a series of awkward apologies, including, “I know how it feels to have a knee on my neck now.”

the brutalist and hamlet were both picked up by focus features for international rights and distribution and still don't have a north american distributor right?

regarding the brutalist the variety article says “The Brutalist” is represented by Protagonist in international markets with CAA Media Finance handling domestic sales.”

would that mean CAA is the domestic distributor? i looked it up and apparently that branch does distribution
