"Pulp Usagi" … or at least my own design of her :)

based on 2 Stan Sakai interviews where he talks about wanting to do different genres of Usagi descendants :) One of them is Pulp Usagi, mentioned in 2015 (Strange Worlds interview) and recently in 2023 in another CBCC interview with Stan and his wife Julie. I was inspired by that newer interview to have my own stab at her design... also we're finally getting the Kagemusha story that Stan mentioned in the previous CBCC interview, so I was excited to hear about that too in this second one.

How to Care for an American Pit Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terriers are one of many breeds known as “pit bulls.” Pit bull terriers require special care and attention. Like most dogs, pit bulls need a safe and comfortable home with good food and toys. While pit bulls have a reputation for aggressive behavior, many of their aggressive tendencies can be reduced through proper training and socialization. They are also extremely active and require plenty of exercise to keep them healthy. Their short coats mean that they are easy to groom and clean. If you can provide a good home for your pit bull, you may find that they are a wonderful and eager companion.

Feed your American pit bull terrier the right food twice a day. Many pit bulls prefer an active, athletic lifestyle. Meeting this high energy need requires a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates.[1] If your dog doesn't get as much exercise as you would like, choose a lower-protein food instead.

A good dog food will be mostly meat, with few fillers such as rice, peanut hulls, soybean mill, or corn bran.[2]

Wet canned food and dry kibble are both acceptable

Furnish your home with dog supplies. It is important that you set up a comfortable environment for your dog. Your pit bull will need their own bed, food, toys, and blankets.

Provide a variety of interesting toys, such chew toys, food puzzles, stuffed animals, balls, and rope toys.

You should have at least one dog bed for your dog, but you may choose to have a few places around the house for your dog to sleep.

Buy an appropriately sized crate if are planning to crate train your pit bull. The crate will give your dog a private den to sleep and rest in.

Each dog should have their own food and water dish.

Give your pit bull terrier enough space. The best home for an American Pit Bull Terrier is one in which the dog has plenty of room to play and exercise. While pit bulls can live in apartments or homes without yards, it preferable that they have a fenced yard that they can play in as they are very active dogs. Pit bulls also have a tendency to dig, so it is good to give them an area in the yard where they are allowed to do so.

osu! diary, 3rd december 2022

so i've been grinding osu! quite a lot during the past week, when i definitely should have studied more, especially when mid-terms are coming up, in fact, i have one tomorrow morning, but i'm here writing this lol

also i titled this "diary", but this is probably a one-time thing, like yeah yeah, diary in vnese is nhật ký, and nhật (meaning "day") implies the daily aspect of it, but hey, i can't be bothered to write sth daily, not like i have enough ability or linguistic skills to write so much ._.

so yeah, like i've said before, i've been grinding a lot recently. specifically, this is the graph showing the number of plays in the past year

November: 175 plays

December: 59 plays (keep in mind we're only 3 days in)

so yep, the future's not looking so bright LOL

the main reason why im playing so much is because i've got a new laptop, so i'm kinda abusing the storage and specs upgrade from my last laptop

and... on the topic of storage, here we have the amount of storage i've spent for storing the beatmaps

i feel fortunate because i'm currently only into play osu!standard, and not other game modes as well, because god knows how much more storage it's gonna take up

but yeah the first few days when i first installed the game, i mass downloaded the beatmaps. i just looked up some popular artists and download all the beatmaps of the songs that i know. to the point that osu literally temporarily blocked me from downloading any more beatmaps 💀💀💀 they quite literally shouted at my face that i need to stop downloading maps and play more...

of course, after playing for a bit and waited until the next day, i could download more beatmaps again 😈 so as of now, we end up with

i have no idea if i'm gonna be able to play all of them. obviously there are also beatmaps from other game modes, and there are 6-star, 7-star beatmaps which i don't think i'm gonna ever have enough skills to play them. i might need to filter them out sometime, for now i can't be bothered to do that, especially when they don't take up that much space in my hard disk.

there's kinda one problem tho, it's when i try to press the Z and X keys on this laptop, but it's a membrane keyboard, and this laptop also happens to be really slim too, so pressing the keys down feels very shallow. i find it really annoying at first typing on this keyboard, still does now, but im more used to the feels. but yeah, it feels kinda weird having to spam these two buttons playing osu!, and since the laptop in general is so fragile, i always feel like i'm damaging the keys somehow. so i might get specialised keycaps just for this game idk (if i do, that would be extremely concerning actually)

and so the grinding starts, i played some maps that i used to love playing on my old laptop, also tried out some new maps, most of them are songs that i'm already familiar with, so i tend to not have a lot of problem with the rhythms

one of the really good songs that i've downloaded and have played recently is lily allen's fuck you. honestly, the song itself is amazing. the beatmap, well, it's a little bit slow, so i had to do put some mods in, specifically HR - hard rock, making the circles smaller and faster and DT - double time, increase the speed of the song and the beatmap by 1.5 times i think (yeah i know it says double but that's how the mod works ig)

honestly that was pretty challenging to me already, especially when the tempo of the song is 1.5 times faster. but it also pays off with a good amount of pp (let me stop you horny mfs right there, it's performance points) and rank, and ofc had quite a bit of fun playing it, and a bunch of adrenaline as well.

another beatmap is sesame street's cookie butter choco cookie, it's basically ppap, but for kids

honestly i'm still wondering how is this a thing, like, look at this

the beatmap was just the first minute when elmo and cookie monster was singing. there are also quite a lot of difficulties to choose from, so i just played a lot of that song, not to mention because i'm also kinda grinding for stats, and i tried a difficulty that's a bit harder for me, so yeah just imagine having elmo and cookie monster "awh" harmoniously in your ear three times each time the song plays and have that repeat for about 15-20 minutes...

it kinda pays off tho, i got a 2nd highest on my PB leaderboard, and im now in the 600k (ofc, not a lot, but still sth)

i enjoyed it a lot, i've always loved rhythm games, and osu! is an awesome game, despite it's clearly contributing to my highly likely, upcoming dramatic academic downfall, but hey, circle clicking game is fun, you can't blame me alright?

btw, if you liked my post analysing just the magnet "holsters" in Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, I'm eventually gonna post more outfit description/analysis! just cuz I've already been writing some longer descriptions for a while now - that's one of my fave things to research and write about, since it can be good art reference for my own drawings, and especially since I can go through the episodes looking for anything new to write down or connect :)

Also, thank you so much for the replies on my post! LOVING the reactions I'm seeing on it, I didn't expect this to do numbers at all but I'm pleased people enjoy reading me ramble about details in a show I like haha xD I don't usually get replies on my other fandom posts, so this is very surprising, even here. I'm touched!

@ranarenee - I already replied to you on the original post, but I genuinely just wanted to feature this comment cuz I'm glad ppl are having a positive reaction to this post xD

I also think it was probably a bit easier to animate them! in addition, because it provides an interesting change of technology in the world of Usagi Chronicles, it means that it might have become more interesting to design this hypothetical descendant-world. I'm sure they might have also just thought it was an interesting and unique element of what they were making, but from Art Director Khang Le and Stan Sakai's CBCC interview, and the SDCC@ Home 2021 panel I remember it was mentioned a few times how many clever things they found to make the production spending smaller on the more trivial things.... so the magnetic holsters feels like a thing that might have hit many birds with one stone, so-to-speak. You have the easier drawing of boards and maybe a few things made lighter for the 3D crew (no extra models or rope to animate, for example), but you also have a pleasing design element to give the main fighters in the cast - Usagi, Gen and Chizu - as well as other characters who would happen to wear weapons on their person aside from Karasu-Tengu. Like mentioned in the post, Kitsune is an interesting exception here, because of course, she's based on UY Kitsune who is also not a direct fighter or anything, but also, the world of SR appears to be at peace of some sort, and it's mentioned several times that there were wars at some point, so not many ordinary citizens of Neo would even have these unless they wanted to use or carry weapons every day. Kitsune wants to blend in with this ordinary citizenry and does so quite well.

I just thought of this today and I guess my post sort of mentioned it, but this existence of the magnets also seems to imply some hierarchy of income or money flow. Kitsune doesn't have any because she doesn't need them and she wouldn't spend money she doesn't have on them anyway. Chizu is Lady Fuwa's favourite student despite how she treats her - and gets the best undercover gear, so like Gen and Usagi, custom magnets. I suspect also that Chizu deliberately somehow got herself assigned to the temple-job (headcanon for now), or perhaps hoped it would be something like that, because she didn't want to get any of the more victim-heavy missions the Neko Ninja do. Gen obviously has spent his own money on the holsters and they are there out of pure practicality - can't be a bounty-hunter without wepons, can you? So the magnets seem more like they're ordinary but custom for the outfit. And Usagi, as discussed before, possibly inherited them because of the clan mon adorning the inlay of the magnet.

Here's Exactly What To Do If You're Approached by an Off-leash Dog

Even if you’re a pet owner and lover, it can be alarming to be out in public and find yourself crossing paths with an unfamiliar animal. When you’re managing fear and surprise, you may feel unsure of what to do if approached by an off-leash dog because you can’t predict their behavior.

And if your own dog is with you when an off-leash dog approaches, it’s even harder to know how either dog will react and what could transpire between them, says Darcia Kostiuk, DVM, with ORIJEN and ACANA pet foods. Not only will you need to keep your pup at ease, but you’ll want to calm your nerves and do your best to dissolve the interaction.

Here is an expert guide on exactly what to do when approached by an off-leash dog to keep you and your pup safe.

Recognize the Dangers

If you and your pet are approached by an off-leash dog while taking a walk, it is vital to recognize the dangers, says Casey Robinson, DVM and the IndeVets Detroit area medical director. You—or your dog—could experience serious injuries, even if the un-leashed pup seems friendly.

“It is important to recognize that even well-mannered dogs can react aggressively if confronted by another animal during a walk—this can be an artifact of either protecting itself or from protecting you,” she continues. “There are certainly other lingering risks that should be considered as well, one of which being transmission of disease between animals, like rabies.”

Don’t Try and Catch the Dog

Because you can’t ask a dog, “Hey, what’s going on?” like you could with a human, it’s impossible to know why they are without a leash. They could be a stray or a family pet who somehow escaped their owner. Either way, this free-roaming animal may be anxious and on high alert. While Kostiuk says well-meaning humans often try and catch the dog, doing this can put you and your pet in an unsafe situation. Call your local animal control instead.

Always Carry Treats

Because you never know what type of creature you could encounter while strolling in the park or a new place, it can be smart to always carry treats with you on your walks, says Irith Bloom, CPDT-KSA, CBCC-KA, CDBC, and member of the Daily Paws Advisory board. She recommends throwing a big handful of treats toward the pup. “While the off-leash dog is sniffing, you can carefully move away. Be sure to keep your eye on the off-leash dog as you move away,” she says.

Avoid Eye Contact

If you have no treats, Bloom recommends standing tall and facing the off-leash dog’s direction without looking directly at the dog’s eyes. From here, she says you can slowly move away by stepping backward or moving away at an angle. The goal is to ensure you’re still facing the dog but without making eye contact.

“If your own dog is upset, use a treat to lure your dog in the direction you need to go, but do your best to keep your eyes on the off-leash dog at all times,” she continues. “Keep moving until you are completely out of sight of the off-leash dog.”

Stay Calm—and Don’t Make Sudden Movements or Noises

Though it isn’t easy to keep your composure when you’re shaking with fear on the inside, being calm could keep you and your dog safe. A calm demeanor will translate to your animal and will hopefully facilitate a more benign interaction, says Anita Patel, DVM, the IndeVets Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina area medical director.

“As animals can certainly pick up on changes in body language, ensuring that movements are slow and non-threatening is crucial in high-stress situations such as these,” she explains. This means no significant movements or high-pitched sounds. Calm, slow, and steady does it.

Say ‘Sit’ in a Confident Voice

Bloom says if you feel calm enough to try this, say “sit” in a loud, confident voice to the off-leash dog and then make a giant “sit” hand signal. To do this, she says you should let your arm hang at your side with the palm facing out (towards the off-leash dog) and then raise your arm until it’s pointing at the sky.

“Many dogs know either the word ‘sit’ or the sit hand signal and will stop and sit when you do this,” she continues. “As soon as the dog stops and sits, throw treats in its direction. The dog will almost certainly stop to eat the treats, which gives you a chance to move away mindfully.”

Do Not Run

While every bone in your body may tell you to sprint as fast as you can away from a dog you don’t know, the opposite approach is safer. Robinson discourages fleeing the situation as this may instigate a more aggressive reaction from the approaching dog. Instead, you want to gradually back away calmly.
