@loisbeckett does a interview with Parkland survivor David Hogg about his current activism on gun violence with hopes to get NRA backed candidates voted out of office. Hogg is part of the March for Our Lives organization that mainly focuses on officials that accept money from the NRA.
Hogg believes that not much has been done on the gun control issues as school shootings continue to happen. He added that, "You never get numb to these things, but I feel like American society gets kind of desensitized."
Are young people giving up on fighting gun control, because there has been no change? School shootings are becoming the norm and it seems the school system in general are desensitized. I haven't seen any changes to prevent violent acts done to the local high schools yet.

Stories like this force me to seriously consider how I will deal with this type of discrimination if I’m confronted with it. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just to get accepted into nursing school. I would be so hurt and disappointed if my racial features derailed my education.

I am ending my blog for now with Tony. Thinking about how social media has impacted Healthcare, take a step back- how has social media effected your healthcare. How can you use social media to communicate about your health, do you? This article speaks to a man by the name of Tony. He has Locked-In Syndrome; and placed his fight of promoting his wishes to have the “right to die”to be approved via social media. Tony had suffered a stroke while on vacation, while doctors were able to save his life, the event left him completely paralyzed. Tony is only able to communicate thru small head movements and blinking his eyes. He was able with the use of a specially designed computer, to be able to use social media to engage in debates over his healthcare wishes. After his first tweet he quickly gained over 14,000 followers. This is 14,000 followers that will now have knowledge of his condition. That is powerful use of how Healthcare and social media are combining as we move into the future. I wonder how many of those 14,000 followers were medical professionals, celebrities, just the average Joe- but honestly does it matter? We are all on social media together- can we use social media going into the future to enhance our healthcare? I feel like there is a huge potential for us to all come together. Doctors helping doctors. Doctors and nurses helping each other. Medical professionals helping patients. Neighbors helping neighbors, spread across the globe as one human race.

The company Dove started a campaign called the Dove Self-Esteem Project with the main focus of delivering self-esteem education. They talk about how having positive body confidence is important, but can be greatly effected by social media. They discuss how teaching young adults media literacy is important and that teaching them that a majority of what you see is a false version of reality. Understanding that can really help you avoid some of those negative impacts.

In this article, Natasha Lomas talks about how Amnesty, EFF, and Privacy International is behind the release of a free, open-source anti-surveillance tool called Detekt. This product was designed for Windows PC users to scan their machines for “known surveillance spyware” that its makers warn is used to “target and monitor human rights defenders and journalists around the world”.

In this article from EdSurge, written by Dr. Katie Martin of AltSchool, she provides 3 different classrooms each at different levels of comfort with technology. The first represented anti-technology; the teacher was old-school and had her students copying map locations from an atlas, an exclusively paper activity, even though iPads were relatively available and in front of them. The second represented “compliance and standardization” using technology rather than genuinely personalized learning; each student just went to class, logged on, and did the lessons one by one. Though they moved at their own pace, the material wasn’t differentiated for each student. The last was Martin’s best example: the teacher “co-created the learning experiences based on the learning objectives and students’ interests.” The project in this third classroom was basically creating a form of service learning, as the students, in just 4th grade, had to go out into their communities and talk to businesses about solutions to their challenges. Technology played an integral part in their research and presentation.
Martin really broke up 3 possible categories teachers could fall in when it comes to ed tech. They either ignore, overuse, or, the ideal case, empower through technology. She does a great job illustrating the idea that it’s not technology that will make schools better, it’s better teaching. Students can have access to technology, but it depends on how their teachers allow them to use it that determine how successful they will be not only as students but as citizens, and also how they’ll fit into the workforce.

Is an “Artificial Intelligence Industrial Revolution” coming? Or is it already here?
Artificial intelligence (AI) has an inconceivable potential to revolutionize our lives. Whether we are ready or not, artificial intelligence will change the world. Artificial intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machines. When a machine mimics cognitive human functions such as learning and problem solving, the term artificial intelligence is used. Although there are many examples of artificial intelligence being used positively, there are still critics that are afraid that true AI will be a serious threat to humanity.
As a healthcare professional, I am excited about the potential AI has in healthcare. There are already healthcare facilities using AI to process large amounts of data to save time and money. New AI technology is also being used to detect and prevent diseases which will save so many lives. But, as a concerned citizen, I am worried that AI will have an overwhelming presence in our lives and threaten the labor force.
This blog consists of the evidence I found during my research on AI in healthcare and medicine. I invite you to explore the various views and uses of AI. I challenge you to decide if we should support an “Artificial Intelligence Industrial Revolution.”

This video explains facts about the deep web and how it came to be the most mysterious and dangerous place in the world. It is interesting on how the world is connected by just a click of a button, especially if a person behind your computer or phone camera is watching your every move. My thoughts about the darknet should just shut down for people’s safety because you don’t know who lurks around your technology access which is the link towards your social media and personal information.
I know it is not an easy task for the Government to shut down the dark web since they actually use it for job purposes. What makes it hard are the hackers who are willing to go the extra miles and search around the most dangerous playground of the internet.

Too much social media...compassion fatigue or lose of empathy? For the older generation that have already learned basic social skills without the internet could be suffering from compassion fatigue and its just simply too much to bear. For the younger generation, ages 10-16 are still learning social skills and have a hard time showing compassion and empathy. There has been more negative news and videos in social media than positive lately. Adolescents need more breaks from social media to not consumed in the violence and ultimately become desensitized.

Nurse Bass is one of the most popular nursing vloggers on YouTube. He vlogged his entire nursing school experience. He has a positive attitude and encouraging messages. When I was frustrated and didn’t want to study, I turned to his videos for an energy boost. He talks about dreaded pharmacology in this video. Many nursing students fail pharmacology. I took his advice and bought the medmaster course and it is as good as he says.

This is my son, Aaron, when he was 4 years old. He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor called anaplastic medulloblastoma.
The first neurosurgeon who looked at my son’s MRI declared that my son would not survive brain cancer because the tumor was too close to his brain stem. This location meant that not enough of his tumor could be removed for a complete resection. If there is visible tumor left behind after surgery, the chances are very low to successfully treat cancer with chemo and radiation.
So after two long weeks in Pediatric ICU, we came home and my 4-year-old son couldn’t walk or talk. I did what most parents do these days: I googled it.
After searching the internet, I found a clinical trial on the National Cancer Institute website www.cancer.gov for an experimental treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I applied online and we were accepted into a clinical trial within days of my online application. Clinical trials must begin within 30 days after surgery, so my ability to find this opportunity online so fast helped to save his life.
Fast forward to today: my son, Aaron, is 5 years cancer free, thanks to that clinical trial at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. I am forever grateful for the miracle of hope we were given by St. Jude. I am honored to share all I have learned from my personal experience on my journey, and inspired by every story I hear about other children who fight the good fight.
Please comment on this page about how digital media technology, social media or new digital health technology has helped your family cope with childhood cancer. You feedback really helps me! Thank you for visiting & be blessed.

The National Education Association, or NEA, is the largest professional interest group in the entire country, created to support and lobby for public school educators and personnel. They run an online and print magazine called NEAToday which provides regularly published articles and interviews for and by teachers and other education-minded contributors.
This article is about five apps to use in math classes, across K-12. A particular point that stuck with me is the difficulty math teachers may face when trying to move from having a “sage-on-the-stage mentality (where teachers focus primarily on lecturing and imparting knowledge) to [being] a facilitator of learning.” The issue is primarily with communication between teachers and learners and the different modes of delivery that can be used in order to generate the most effective learning.
The five apps mentioned were (with brief descriptions from Common Sense Education):
EDpuzzle - “Crop, customize, and remix online videos for your classroom”
Recap - “Multimedia reflection app puts a new spin on class discussion”
ActivePrompt - let’s you poll your students and allows interactivity with digital images, could not find review on Common Sense
GeoGebra - “Create, share, and modify math models and simulations”
QuizletLive - “Flexible study aid supports learning at home, school, and on the go”
As with the Bronke article about student-centered learning, this article provides helpful and specific advice on how to successfully integrate technology into the classroom. Not only do these apps transform the teaching process, but they inherently transform the learning the process, and the communication between teachers and students in general. Having different apps and being able to do so much with one device (a tablet) opens new doors to a whole new creative way of lesson planning.

Here's what Tech Billionaires have to say about artificial intelligence. Elon Musk says that AI is a risk to human civilization. Mark Zuckerberg says he's optimistic because AI will improve the quality of life. Bill Gates doesn't see a need for panic, but he doesn't agree with the people who says that there should be no worries to AI. Most would agree that AI holds great promise for the future, but there are others who fear the changes that AI will bring. Who do you agree with? Where do you stand?
