Cairo Conspiracy    [trailer]
The son of a fisherman is offered the privilege to study at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the center of power of Sunni Islam. He becomes a pawn in the conflict between Egypt's religious and political elites.
While I recognised the pictures and posters of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi everywhere, I don't know enough details about this world to judge how real this conflict is.
But that didn't keep me from enjoying this tense political thriller. It's not as epic as A Prophet, but that movie can be used as a reference point. And this one has a more unusual setting.
I continue to enjoy following the career development of Fares Fares.

? Questions with Bayard & Holmes, author of The Leopard of Cairo.
John Viera left his CIA fieldwork hoping for a “normal” occupation and a long-awaited family, but when a Pakistani engineer is kidnapped from a top-secret US project and diplomatic entanglements tie the government’s hands, the Intelligence Community turns to John and his team of ex-operatives to investigate — strictly off the books. They uncover a plot of unprecedented magnitude that will…

Trip report!!
For those that have been waiting, sorry! I got home and immediately had to go help with a family thing. But here it is!
First, was the obvious. We had to drop off the baby boy with my parents. He had a great time with the family and was very dirty, stinky, and sleepy when we got back.
Tumblr media
So where were we? We went to see the eclipse! As many of you know, My wife proposed to me under totality in the 2017 solar eclipse. So she surprised me with time off to travel to this last one on 4/8!
We flew to Nashville, TN and rented a car so I could scratch my road trip itch. We visited her family in KY, then went up to Cairo, IL for the event.
Tumblr media
THIS is the public library in Cairo. It's an absolutely darling building, built originally to be a library and still proudly serving that purpose. The gals who were manning the counter were sweet, knowledgeable, and so welcoming. They had goodie bags with moon pies and starbursts and collected the eclipse glasses when we were done with them so they could be sterilized and sent down to Mexico for the next eclipse. So lovely to talk with and they welcomed us to spend the eclipse on their lawn with some local families. So we did!
We had a little picnic, chatted with some of the families, and got to watch totality in a tiny little town with so much character I still smile just thinking about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully you don't expect us to have top tier eclipse photography lol, but these are great for us! I got to kiss my wife under totality and it was hella romantic.
Then I got to drive more....then Kara got to drive because there were a ton of accidents and the three hour drive back to Nashville took more than six hours. So uh, my motion-sick self was struggling with the stop and go traffic.
But when we got there, we had a great night and then day walking around Eastside Nashville and pointing out the arcades I was going to take Kara to that evening.
That didn't quite happen.
Because the first stop we made in the arcade crawl is where we stayed all night.
No Quarter, the pinball arcade I now have a hat for because it's so friggin cool. We got to do many cool things there. 1)They had excellent drinks and in true Oregonian fashion I got to try the local cider and judge it. (it was good!) 2) I kicked Kara's ass at pinball. Very important. 3) I got MY ass kicked at pinball by literally every other person in the building. Also very important. Because 4) I got to play in a pinball tournament hosted by Belles and Chimes, specifically for women and non binary folks!
How did I, notorious nerves-haver and not a multiplayer pinball player join this?
5) I got to meet Quinn Hills. You know, @quinnhills ? Yeah. I'm still so giggly about it.
Tumblr media
Hi. This pic is me, many drinks in, just absolutely giddy getting to meet (and hug!!) one of my favorite artists.
She's so sweet, so kind, and asked if I wanted to join the tournament.
Remember: do what beautiful women ask of you.
I am still kicking myself because I dropped the cliche, "your music has helped me through some really hard stuff." I mean, its absolutely true!! But I had told myself I was gonna be more eloquent than that. Oh well. I would blame the cider, but I was super excited and nervous before that, so I think I'm just a little goofy.
Kara also was happy to meet the woman who's music I had been blaring for that whole six plus hour car ride back to Nashville, and she's agreed to play pinball with me at our home bar! Major win!
We stayed until one in the morning, Kara ordered pizza to the hotel, and we had safe flights back home the rest of the day.
It was such a fun trip and I'm still losing my mind at all the little bits of it.
When I stream next (soon) I'm sure you'll hear about all this again. Along with my breakdown of eclipse conspiracies I've spent far too much time analyzing. <3

Tesla's Obsession With the Ancient Pyramids
Tumblr media
Nikola Tesla's fascination with the Egyptian pyramids stemmed from his belief that they held profound secrets of ancient technology and engineering. He was particularly intrigued by their precise construction and alignment with astronomical phenomena, such as the cardinal points and the movements of celestial bodies.
In 1904, Tesla met with British occultist Aleister Crowley in Cairo, Egypt, and aided Crowley in writing his book, The Book of the Law. According to Crowley's accounts, he and Tesla received the idea for his book through a series of transmissions from a spiritual entity known as Aiwass while staying in Cairo. This event marked a significant turning point in Crowley's life and his development as a prominent figure in occultism and esotericism.
Tesla's interpretation of the messages from Aiwass differed significantly from Crowley's. Tesla speculated that the Great Pyramid of Giza might have served as an enormous power plant or transmitter of energy, based on its unique geometric properties and the possibility of it containing hidden chambers or conduits. He proposed theories about energy, frequency, and vibration, suggesting that the pyramids could harness and transmit free energy through the Earth's crust.
In 1905, Tesla filed a patent in the U.S. titled “The Art of Transmitting Electrical Energy Through the Natural Medium,” in hopes of mimicking the engineering of the pyramids to provide the world with free energy.
While Tesla's ideas about the pyramids were unconventional and not supported by mainstream archaeology or Egyptology, they reflect his visionary approach to science and his willingness to explore unconventional theories. Despite lacking concrete evidence, his fascination with the pyramids demonstrates his belief in the interconnectedness of ancient wisdom and modern technology.
APRIL FOOLS!!! 🤣😂🤣
There is literally no evidence that suggests Nikola Tesla showed any interest in the Egyptian Pyramids. These conspiracies are derived from silly people using Tesla’s inventions to correlate and further promote their far-fetched, evidence-free theories that the Egyptians were visited by extraterrestrials.
Have a good day everyone! (((:

I'm so sorry I can't take the Dudley-breaks-the-news-of-Eve's-supposed-death scene seriously AT ALL. It's hilarious! It's the reason why I'm a Dudley/Eve conspiracy nut, for fun, but let me explain the reasons this scene leaves me with no sanity.
First, it's important to know that the Qattara Depression, where Dudley says Eve's plane went down, is WEST of Alexandria (off to the left, on a map). Cairo is to the east/right of Alexandria. There is no way a plane headed from Alexandria to Cairo would go west.
So, from west (left) to east (right) we have: the Qattara Depression - Alexandria - the sandstorm Dudley says happened - Cairo.
Now, this is in a show that's playing fancy-dress-up-costume with history, and moved Kabrit from where it actually is (east of the Nile, by the Suez Canal) to a few hundred miles into the desert west of the Nile. Option one in the Eve plane story mystery is that the showrunners just didn't give a shit about where a place was, they simply slapped a name in there because they'd read/heard about it, and figured no one would know or bother to check. That would be on par for the show. (And the racist assumption that no one's going to know/care/bother to check where these places are - I very much doubt we're going to find them playing fast and loose with the location of European places.)
Anyway, leaving aside the option that makes me spit incredulous venom, I have a far more amusing second option to put forward:
Dudley was making shit up.
Which is extra fucking funny because Stirling, having been out in the desert, should very much know where the Qattara Depresison is. Dudley would know that Stirling should know. He'd be cackling internally at Stirling falling for it.
I don't know if I believe a word of what Dudley said, it makes no sense, but David not noticing the inconsistency means either anyone watching the show who knows vaugely where places in Egypt are just have to shriek in intense discomfort, or David is a complete and utter dumbass when it comes to remembering where places are.
