At a very young age, Missy proved herself to be a master of starting fires and explosions. Through her continued practice and study, she developed advanced technical skill and signature design philosophies. To call her creations "IEDs" would a be a disservice to her craft.

She would be diagnosed with pyromania, and committed to a psychiatric prison. The year spent in there is largely unrecorded.

Seeing potential in her abilities, Gabriel took Missy out and enrolled her at Stuart Gibbs Academy with a full scholarship. Wanting to take full advantage of a new chance, Missy decided to quell her fire-starting habits. Or tried to at least. Old habits die hard. Fortunately, her talents were much more (relatively) appreciated. She got high grades and accolades in her classes. She was even given permission to design her own unique weaponry.

However, socially she was still struggling. She was once again the loner. That is until she met her soon to be bestie, Pierce.

She joined The M Crew because Mary was one of the few people who didn't see her as a liability.

Tom Tabby

Outlaws and Paws

Orphan, street rat, and cat burglar, Tom Tabby grew up on the streets of Neo San Antonio. Born without a name, he had to name himself. To survive he and his younger sister, Jan Visible (she also had to name herself), had to scavenge and steal. They learned quick and became master thieves. Soon, they started stealing for the highest bidder.

Of course, everyone gets caught eventually. He and his sister were arrested for stealing, and were being prepared for prison. "Fortunately" for them, Gabriel saw promise in their skillsets. He had them both freed and enrolled to Stuart Gibbs Academy on a full scholarship.

Both he and his sister were on edge when they first arrived. They were very prickly and reclusive. However, Tom began to warm up to his new peers, realizing that Stuart Gibbs Academy was a (relatively) better circumstance compared to how he used to live.

He became a lot more comfortable when he met his soon-to-be BFF, Caleb. Caleb started hanging out with Tom because he had a crush on Jan. However, soon the two had tons of fun testing Caleb's gadgets.

The two were a dynamic duo before The M Crew. And once they both joined independently, their bond only grew. Tom joined because Mary is also suspicious of Gabriel.

Caleb Cable

Tech and Nervous Wreck

The son of a mechanic and junkyard owner, Caleb had no shortage of access to tools. Day by day he would tinker and experiment with the parts around him. Inspired by great scientists of his time, such as Dr. Terra Bartlett, he planned to become a genius inventor himself. He easily proved himself to be top of his class.

However, it wasn't enough. College is expensive. It looked like a dead end for his dreams. That is, until a very generous offer to Stuart Gibbs Academy came to him. His father forbade him from going, warning Caleb that an offer from Gabriel is not to be trusted. But Caleb knew this was his only chance. He ran away from home and accepted Gabriel's offer.

Caleb hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since.

Caleb soon found himself over his head with the dangerous lessons of the academy. He needed help from some with survival instincts. He found the perfect help in Jan and especially Tom.

The two became a dynamic duo before The M Crew. And once they both joined independently, their bond only grew. Caleb joined because Mary inspired him. If someone as... complicated as Mary could believe in herself, well maybe so could he.

Currently, he and The Mary Crew are on the hunt for Mary and Pierce's mother.

I love that Caleb does not ever seem to take opportunities to take any kind of "this might be the last moment I have" actions. No matter what, when everyone else is going around and making their desperate moves, Caleb doesn't. Even after he recommends otherwise to others, it is notable that he among the group doesn't do so, and this is consistent with his previous behavior.

I like to think that stems from the moment he opted against trying to work with Trent—which I think, at its core, was an attempt at such an action. If Caleb had died fighting the Somnovem, he had every reason to believe that Trent would continue in his actions. Though Astrid and Eadwulf were willing to subtly undermine him, they had made it clear that they were not willing to challenge him outright. Caleb tells the Nein, when they are discussing their last wishes at the Blooming Grove before returning to Eiselcross, that he would appreciate Trent being eliminated in the event of his death. I have to believe that there was a fear or regret that his dearest motivations would not come to fruition which spurred his interest in using an alliance with him in Aeor to trap and kill him.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I believe Essek's willingness to disagree with him was one of the factors in Caleb being able to trust him and his judgment, but I would also argue it was a wake-up call for Caleb—about letting himself be distracted; about not focusing in on the mission at hand; about, potentially, expecting failure in this goal, especially after he has watched his friends say their goodbyes as if they too expect to die. "Stay on task, Widogast," is a mantra he uses in Vergessen, but he does get caught up, to an extent, in enacting as much damage as he can to the place in the process, and regardless of whether this ruthless assault slowed or sped their discovery, Trent did catch up to them, and very nearly caught Veth and Jester as well as himself. Given Caleb's fears throughout the campaign that he will draw the danger that dogs him onto his newfound friends, and his later apology to Essek in the same conversation for drawing Trent's attention to him, it is not a stretch to argue that this is yet another guilt he shoulders.

It isn't lost on me that Caleb almost died before the Nein even met, he was perpetually aware of his fragility among the group, and he was the last member of the Nein to go down and need to be revived. So I just think it's very fun if he, who so often seemed to be on the verge of death, who in fact planned to step back in history and in the process erase the person he had become, found himself at some point determined to live, and firmly confident in his ability to do so.

He does not wrap up his affairs, he does not say goodbyes, and while he may acknowledge the stakes for the group, he does not entertain the idea that he personally will not make it out alive—because, as Dorian notes, he has a lot to live for. He has to get back home to his partner and his well-maintained garden; he has to make sure the Cerberus Assembly's nefarious schemes do not continue in Ludinus's absence, perhaps even in the absence of the Assembly itself, depending on what its members do in its wake; he probably has to go egg on his godson's shenanigans as payback for Veth threatening to shoot him out of the sky.

Caleb Widogast is an absolute cockroach of a wizard, and, in true Mighty Nein form, he is at all times thriving on unfinished business.

The Morning After You've Taken Your Life x the LaDs Boys

a/n: I'm going through an extremely difficult time right now. It feels like life has come to a full halt and I've found myself in an empty spot, having unconsciously strayed from the path a long while ago. Rafayel sits cross-legged on the wooden floor of his studio. One hand sprinkles a carefully measured amount of fish flakes into the tiny mouth of an eagerly waiting Reddie. The slender fingers of the other hand wrap around a paint-covered brush, twitching impatiently as he turns every few seconds to glance at his phone screen.

11:03 a.m.

You have no new notifications.

Rafayel doesn't usually turn on the news, or even touch the antique television he's had sitting around in his space for years at all, for that matter. However, Thomas has been annoying him to clean his work area for the last few days, so he's been begging you to make some time between missions and help him fix the cracked TV screen before he sells it. Obviously, just another excuse to see his beloved bodyguard.

However, you've finally got a day off today, and he can't wait. So here he sits amongst a pile of tangled cables and Reddie's fish bowl, TV playing absentmindedly in the background.

Setting the shaker down, Rafayel gazes up at his current ongoing masterpiece. Bringing both hands up to eye-level to form an imaginary photo frame, he takes a moment to admire his art, letting out a satisfied sigh. But when he opens his mouth to speak to Reddie, a familiar name catches his attention, something along the lines of 'renown hunter' and 'Linkon Apartments.' The name of your complex. Ears perking up, Rafayel turns from the glass fish bowl to stare at the TV.

What he hears instantly wipes the smile off his face.

Rafayel immediately moves across the wooden floor, planks creaking as he rushes to crouch right in front of the screen. As his worried eyes take in every word running across the bottom of the screen, darting around anxiously to absorb the footage being played, tears start to pool in his lavender-blue orbs.

Less than a few minutes later, the entire floor of the studio is covered in pearls of every shape and size. The devilish little creatures gleam back up at Rafayel, leaving not a square foot's worth of space.

Rafayel pushes himself to his feet. His body shakes with such power it has forgotten over the course of many thousands of years, that even the foundation underneath him trembles. A mess of tears and pearls streaming down his reddened cheeks, Rafayel throws the paintbrush in his hand across the room, knocking over an antique vase that hits the floor with a porcelain crash. He grabs the bucket nearest to him brimming to the top with thick, dark paint and hurls it towards the wall with all his might, muscles flexing in anger and agony as he watches it splatter across his masterpiece. He grabs hold of another bucket. Then another. Then another.

Rafayel? Rafayel died hours ago. But the Sea God doesn't stop, not until every sign of life besides the little fish is destroyed and the entire studio is tainted in vibrantly chaotic dyes that seem to swallow him whole. Then he falls to his knees, sobbing into his palms. Wails, labored breaths, and the soft clink, clink of falling pearls creating a painfully nostalgic symphony. A song he had vowed never to let himself hear again.

As his cries die down for a brief moment, Rafayel looks up, taking in the entirety of the destruction. With a heart aching sob, he buries his face into his hands again, and falls to the floor in agony.

Without his bride by his side, the Sea God is utterly useless. His heart can never continue to beat.

It never has, and it never will.

Once again, if you are suffering, please do not end it. Though it may seem like it, it is not a permanent release. Trust me, I have been there and am still struggling. The boys would never wish this on you, either. So please. Please stay with us. Stay with me.

I’ve finally clicked why I feel so bad that Caleb is slowly taking a top spot in my reverse harem and why I’ve felt guilty about it!!

He’s come in with so many advantages over the other LIs. Whilst they all technically have history with MC, Caleb has far more, and as a result MC’s interactions with him jump over the initial awkwardness and angst displayed in other relationships (a la Sylus and Rafayel).

I know a lot of people have an issue with how much he brings up the past (I’m not too arsed by it, it’s his attempts of making MC happy, making conversation, and highlighting their bond) but I’d consider it a really important part of their dynamic.

It feels as though he’s the type who never needed to study or make an effort and passes each exam with flying colours top of the class type, whilst the other LIs are doing all nighters to study and barely pass (at first, this does change I know)

The fact he’s absolutely gorgeous, dripping in rizz, and is charming as hell also adds it all.

TLDR: Caleb came in with an unfair advantage. I felt guilty falling for it but I cannot hold back any longer. I need him in ways that are concerning to feminism

You caught Kenneth's attention during the trials. He planned to just walk up to you while you were trying to fix the generator and attack you, but he stopped when he saw how you were distracted from fixing it every time there was a rustle, crows cawing or something else. Because of this, you were constantly making mistakes while fixing the generator. It even started to seem funny to him. He didn't know the reason why you were acting like that, but he was interested in watching you

When you started chatting, he found out that the reason for your behavior was that you were hyperactive. It was difficult for you to focus on completing tasks and sometimes it seemed that you were distracted even during conversations. Kenneth liked to watch how quickly you switched your attention, but he wouldn't let you near his bottles, not knowing what might happen

When you were on the same trials, he was watching you. He laughed at you, seeing how you were distracted once again. Your comrades took advantage of the fact that he was easier to spot when you were around, but that didn't mean he was going to spare them. He was the only one who made allowances for you, giving you a head start so that you could run away a little

Clown enjoyed spending time with you. For the first time in a long time in his life, there was a person who was next to him, who stopped being afraid of him and who he really liked. He wasn't going to miss his chance when finally, in this strange world among the fog, he found the person he wanted to be with

When Caleb first saw you, he was surprised. You tried your best to fix the generator, but every time you were distracted by some rustle or the screams of your comrades in the distance. Because of this, you made mistakes and got injured. When you got closer, you told him that the reason for this was your hyperactivity

You often kept him company at Glenvale. When you didn't have to run away from anyone and fix generators, it was much calmer there and if you close your eyes to some things, it was even beautiful there. You were sitting next to Caleb when he was calibrating his weapon or wandering around the saloon, studying what was interesting there. You often asked Cable different questions to find out more about this place. Caleb loved watching you quickly shift your attention from one thing to another

Deathslinger couldn't help you during trials. He saw how hard you tried, but he understood that if he helped you, it would only make it harder for you to live, because the survivors would be sure that you were a traitor. Therefore, all he could do was deliberately let you escape, as if that was the way it was supposed to be and he had no hidden reasons

Caleb enjoyed spending time with you. He hadn't been this close to anyone in a long time. He understood that you would not be together forever, because this world was so unpredictable. That's why Caleb spent time with you while he could. Your hyperactivity was a sweet part of you, and even when you were distracted, he knew you weren't doing it on purpose

Ji-Woon has always liked the attention of others. He reveled in the attention of his fans, which was quite a lot, but when you appeared in his life, he found a new source of attention that he wanted to get. He liked it when you listened to what he was saying, when you looked at him. But when your hyperactivity made itself felt, Ji-Woon felt annoyed. He didn't like it when something else caught your attention

Because of your hyperactivity, it was difficult for you to survive during trials, but Trickster always gave in to you a little, pretending not to notice you, while you tried your best to focus on fixing the generator, but you were distracted and made mistakes because of it. However, when you were alone, he liked it when your attention was focused on him. That's why when your attention turned to something else, he made sure that you only looked at him

When he was sure that you weren't listening to him, he would sit you down next to you and look you in the eye, whispering something to you in Korean. You didn't know Korean, so you didn't understand what he was saying, but your attention returned to him, which made him smile contentedly. Ji-Woon liked how cute you blushed when he got your attention

Trickster liked to get the attention of others, and especially yours. Your hyperactivity wasn't a problem for him, because he knew how to get your attention back. At other times, your hyperactivity even seemed nice to him. He liked watching you get distracted from what you were doing over and over again

It’s a trial like any other for you. Repair generators, flee from the killer, yadda yadda.

The killer in this trial is Caleb, so you know he’s gonna go a bit easier on you, which is good because you feel distracted this trial.

It might be the map, you hate the creepy school of Silent Hill. Nothing ever seems to go right when you’re sent to this map.

To prove your point, you suddenly get very startled while sneaking up to a generator.

BANG! It’s a corpse, it just falls right out of a locker! Right in front of you, as you’re sneaking by!

You can’t help it, the words just come out.

“Nách mór an diabhal thú! Fucking manky piece of-”

“Y/N?”

The next second, you’re startled again, this time by none other than Caleb, sneaking up behind you.

“Caleb! What in the goddamn-”

Your curses are cut short when you see the confused look on Caleb’s face. 

He just stares at you, and you’re starting to wonder if he’s alright.

Then, he suddenly burst out into laughter.

He laughs and laughs, folding himself double where he stands, tears forming in his eyes.

“Yeah yeah, laugh it up. This thing scared me, alright?” you hiss, but Caleb only continues laughing as he leaves the room.

You and Meg find each other in a trial. You decide to sneak up to a generator together, since you make a notoriously good engineer team.

The wet bamboo rustles beside you as you sit down at your silent generator, and as Meg keeps watch at first, you start working the cables.

This is easy. You know your way around generators, you’ve repaired hundreds of them by now.

Even though Kazan is the killer in this trial, you’re not nervous. He goes easy on you, and you’re not worried about Meg and her speedy legs.

Meg is still keeping watch just in case Kazan shows up, and you’re almost halfway on the generator. This is too easy, why-

BOOM!

A part of the generator explodes right in your face, and the next second all hell breaks loose.

“Kuso kurae! Motherfucker! This stupid piece of shit generator!”

You go on and on about where the generator can get lost and you don’t even notice Meg staring at you like she could kill you.

You do notice the heavy footsteps approaching, however. You go silent, just now noticing the echo from your angered voice.

Kazan looks at you, just staring from behind his mask.

Then, he grabs his sword and slowly saunters along, as if nothing had happened. You hear him mutter something to himself, then he’s gone.

It’s just one of those days. Nothing goes right, and every possible thing fucks up.

You’re so tired of this trial, even if your Ji-Woon is the killer.

You wish this would just end already. You break every part in the generators, you can’t sneak or hide for shit apparently and on top of everything Quentin is just aimlessly staring at the wall whenever you come across him in the trial. He must be falling asleep again, stupid guy.

The cup finally spills over for you, when Ji-Woon finds you and decides to taunt you a bit.

He brandishes his knives, singing about how easy you are to catch and how useless your teammates are in this trial. It’s like a whole performance.

You sigh in anger and suddenly you shout: “Gae-sae-kki! Shut up, you idiot!”

Ji-Woon quiets down and stops in the middle of a tap dance, staring at you.

“Babe, I’m sorry, I love you”, you say. “Just, shut up! And you look stupid, dancing like that!”

A moment of silence, then Ji-Woon grins at you.

To your surprise, he leans over and kisses your cheek, then he giggles and starts walking towards Quentin, who’s now clearly asleep.

Caleb mains Nao. He always gravitates towards the more complex characters that focus on map control. I could also see him maining Rune as his and Nao’s playstyles are similar.

I also considered him maining Atlas and Finii. But Atlas’s long cooldowns would psyche Caleb out too much. And Finii’s abilities would (especially her primary ability, Misdirection) present him with an off putting learning curve.
