Broadway and Vine, pairing the best of Broadway with the best of Wine Country opened its third season with a sold out performance by Darren Criss (GLEE, American Buffalo, Hedwig and the Angry Inch). The Bay Area native performed at Carneros Resort’s Hilltop Vineyard on Friday, July 28th. Accompanying himself on the piano and guitar, Criss’ setlist captured his diverse career of original songwriting, Broadway classics, and pop hits, closing with a medley of GLEE favorites including P!NK’s Raise Your Glass and Teenage Dream. During his set Criss was joined by Amarech Mendez, a mentee of Broadway and Vine’s young artist program. The two sang Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love” with Darren on piano.

joebrasil: The little Napa that could….is. When I moved here in 1998 Napa had not yet caught up with its “household name”. I landed a job at the local paper and wanted to live in a safe place with good schools for my young and evolving family. So we bought what we could afford, a major fixer in a down and out neighborhood, and moved here. I knew Napa’s future was bright. I could feel that I was part of something bigger, something wonderful.…a community rallying around Napa’s aspirations and determined to make sure it achieved them. Yesterday represented a couple full circle moments for me. It was garbage day in my (no longer) down and out neighborhood and as I pulled the cans in under the bright afternoon sun I noted all the color, the vibrancy, and the rebirth of my little hood. After, I headed to the Inn at Carneros and meandered through its gardens to the knoll top to watch Darren Criss put on a fabulous show via Broadway and Vine. I reflected as the sun set and his beautiful voice carried over the rolling vines…..we made it. Napa has caught up with its name. Napa has arrived.
